- This footage has probably not been publicly aired for many decades. It is a "must see" professionaly produced colour action film about Donald Campbell and Bluebird K7 at Lake Bonney and at Lake Dumbleyung where he set a new World Water Speed Record on 31st December 1964.
True Legend, this type of English man, is what made England Great, sadly no more,
Ageless piece of film. Superb. And thanks for putting this up
All you millenniums out there take note, Donald Campbell was probably the last great British hero, this guy had some bottle.
You are so right Dave I coudn't agree more he has been my hero for 70 years and of course you carn't leave out Leo Villa what a team. All the record attempts, and i'm sure you would agree were not for the greater glory of Donald but for the greater glory of Great Britain.
Amazing film, never have I seen this footage before of the Bluebird.
magic
A great fan of Donald Campbell and sadly saw his demise!!!
You should see 'across the lake' a BBC production of the last few weeks of campbells life !!!
Great film- but misquote at the end… it was George Mallory who said “because it is there”’regarding Everest.
That's some of the best footage of K7 I have ever seen, it gives you a good idea of how fast she really was, most film reels of the day make her look slow and lethargic. As bad as the weather was for Campbell Australia was good to in what he achieved.
Thanks uploader, this is priceless.
Great to see Barmera townsfolk and Lake Bonney with so much water
I was there when they brought her back to coniston earlier this year.
Some great footage.
Endurance Swimmer Australia...not a very good airplane, I don't know what all the fuss was about.
Actually makes you realise how brave Campbell was. He understood the risks, and was a careful man. Sheer naked courage, is what this film says to me, oh, and some great product placement from Wills tobacco who sponsored the film, showing Campbell and team smoking Craven "A" cancer sticks.
Does anyone know how you can obtain any of the footage from the Lake Bonney attempt or who owns the rights.
And surely that was the time to quit
Absolutely...there was no need to go on as he already had the record...rather like Richard Noble's Bloodhound's attempt for 1000 mph, there was no need as Britain already had the record ...
