Bill Smith and his dedicated team should be officially recognised and commended for what they have done .Not only finding K7 but recovering it and painstakingly rebuilding it rivet by rivet . As a retired toolmaker of 40 years i take my hat off to that group of enthusiasts and very talented human beings. I was 17 when Donald was tragically killed in K7 and have relived that accident it my head many hundreds of times. As Gina said in one of her interviews .What a brave man . And a fantastic ambassador for the UK and record brakers around the globe. I have followed the rebuild project of K7 for many years via the web on The Bluebird Project and will be at Coniston Water when she finally returns there hopefully in 2019 to see her run on the lake again. Donald will be looking down and loving it. I urge all enthusiasts to just be there to celebrate the great mans achievements not only on water but land also . God Bless him.
What an amazing story! To the best of my knowledge there has not been anything like this done before in the history of the world. Great job to the team!
Look at the history of BABS - Land Speed Record car that was buried under Pendine Sands after it crashed there, decapitating its driver. It was dug up many years after the death crash, and restored...
Wonderful! I have followed the story from the day of Malcolm’s crash, watched on my Dad’s Black & White TV till the present day. Well done to everyone! A real Boys Own Paper success story! You thoroughly deserve all the accolades you will receive. Also a special thought for Gina, a very elegant & charming lady. I feel certain Malcolm will be looking over you all with a huge smile. All the best to everyone. Hope to see you all in Scotland & the big day at home on Coniston. What a privileged that will be!
I missed all this in 2018! I saw on TV when it was recovered in 2001, but heard nothing more, until this year. I've never heard Marillion's song, but I composed a guitar instrumental called 'Bluebird's Last Run' (it can be heard on UA-cam). It was only this year when I was working on my composition that I found the Bluebird Project's videos on UA-cam. I'm hugely impressed by Bill Smith and his team's achievement! So Bill, if you want to use my music for any subsequent films about Bluebird, you can, for free! (Sorry I'm late!)
@@mgoulet002 The main reason for being ignored by media was that the funeral was held in Coniston on 12 Sep 2001....The World Trade centre attacks occurred on the 11th and would dominate all other news stories for months to come.
BRAVO to all the team. This is like my dream episode of 'Boys Own' has come to life.... and NO, I DO NOT mean the band! Hell No... please nobody resurrect that. 😂
Bluebird will first appear on the water for crew training later this year at Loch Fad on the Isle of Bute; the full proving trials will only then take place on Coniston if the village/Lake District National Park Authority can sort the politics out!
The reason is that Coniston is a busy piece of water, and it proved difficult to manage the safety aspect of other water users. The loch was chosen as it is privately owned and has no traffic on it .

Truly a labour of love. I’ve followed this project all the way through and i’m delighted it’s finally reaching fruition. Thanks To Bill and his team.
Fantastic work Bill and team. What a sight she'll be on the water again.

@@lotusgroup123 And what?
well done with the hard work. you have done something very special and you should be very proud.
Pure dedication with honor and a goal can make history real to the future and not just a short video of a tragedy. This is outstanding work! Carry on!

It was Donald, not his father Malcolm....

Thank goodness for UA-cam I'm from the US and I never heard about this story
What a fantastic project and people but not featured enough, admiration to all.

Good to see Marillion get their due here.
Matt Goulet yes, can't believe they raised the bluebird and a legend's remains! Not many bands can say that! I wonder if they know it.
007 bobby yes, the band was at the lake for the raising. Unfortunately, they were again ignored by the media.

Out of This World is a fantastic track as is the album it's taken from ' Afraid of Sunlight'
FWIW, 300 MPH is 260.69 Knots.

A credit to the British craftsmen that put this project together we have nothing to fear from world trade when you see the effect put into this
That laugh at 5:17 lol
Restoration such as that is not a job, it's a calling.
Such a shame it's all ended up in acrimony and bitterness.
When she's on the water what speed are u aiming for her 100mph or 200mph?
RIP Sir Donald
Is Bluebird going to be bought back and run on Coniston

thanks for the reply , i am guessing you will announce if and when it does happen
What speed are you hoping to achieve?
Whatever she planes and then looks nice running at; certainly, not top record speeds!
Why the hell was she refloated in Scotland not Coniston ?! I smell beauracratic Bullsh*t.Daughter ought to be ashamed.
It's bill smith that should be ashamed.
