Do not understand the hook correction.

The move he wants you to make with the right shoulder on the way down to correct the pull, is the same move that causes the hook in the second part of the video.....that's golf. And since the swing itself takes about a second, your brain can't tell if your downward move is too much inside or just the right amount. The game is only easy for that 10% that got it right at the beginning when learning the game, and now just repeat it thru muscle memory. The rest of us are just going to have the odd good game now and then where our timing is on.............the game is impossible.

I see what you're saying, but disagree. First, I don't think golf is "easy" for anyone--especially not for 10% of all golfers (go to your local driving range and see if one out of ten of the people there find it easy). Also, you can improve and lower your cap. You have to discover what works for you. Don't chase perfection or nice looking positions, which will get you nowhere. If that doesn't work, find a good coach and take some lessons. You'll find that golf isn't as "impossible" as you think.

Couldnt agree with you more Broham. I make the same swing every time. Sometimes it's a perfect 2 yard draw, the next time it's a 25 yard hook.

This is one of the best examples I have seen of explaining the correct swing path. As an artist, this helped enormously because now I can visualise the swing path in my mind that I need to follow when I swing down. I have struggled with this for many years even though I have watched hundreds of golf videos. I just couldn't grasp it for some reason. As soon as watched this video I saw the correct swing path so clearly. I ran straight out into my garden to try it, and after doing many practice swings, I could see and feel why this is the correct swing path. I then tried to swing as I did before and it became obvious to me that I was pulling my right shoulder around and coming over the top. I think it will take some hours of practice to get it to feel natural, but now, and for the first time, I finally know the correct swing path on which to train - great lesson from an excellent teacher.

Thx Mark very interesting and helpful. I have this problem mostly with my wedges. I'll "miss" to the left of the flag (not badly but to the left) i naturally draw the ball and don't have this issue with other clubs. Any ideas why it tends to happen with wedges?

    • @markwoodgolfacademy

Your wedges might be too upright for you in the lie angle, you can check this by drawing a vertical line on a golf ball a hitting it. This will then leave a mark on the clubface which should also be vertical for the correct lie angle. For me personally my irons are 1 degree upright and my wedges are standard lie. The reason behind this is you do not create enough clubhead speed so you do not get the shaft droop at impact this causing your wedges to be too upright for you. Worth checking out...

I think the problem for me was the ball in front of my stance

Thanks Mark. I'll work on this. My 'issue' is that I don't pull the ball many times, but when I do I have trouble figuring out why - but I'll look at these ideas you present.

Great video. My problem was the last explanation. This is the only video I've seen on youtube that explains what I was doing yesterday and it was driving me crazy. Cheers

Not sure if this is serious or not but I had this same problem. What I do is purposefully hit the ball curving left or curving right. It’s called variability training, which he talked about here and which Clay Ballard (one of the best coaches imo) talks about a lot. Once you get the “FEEL” of hitting it way left, or way right, you’d be surprised how good you are at finding what “FEELS” like pretty neutral. You just gotta get those reps in and make sure you have those checkpoints that Mark talks about in the setup (ball placement, grip, alignment). Take it with a grain of salt but it really helped me become more accurate.
