Hi Misty 👋 First of all , hats 🎩 off to Matt for creating the new graphic for you , he nailed it ! The first place at Palisades Drive Inn when you showed their sign Grilled Mahi Mahi , we definitely have to try more Mahi Mahi when on the Oahu again. The only time we had it was at the Paia Fish Market on Kuhio Ave , Waikiki and fell in love with it. A bit pricy for Mahi Mahi and Fries $32 but it is Waikiki. Great vid as always Cheers Rod and Gem 🤙
Hi Rod! Oh mahi mahi is my favorite to batter up and make fish tacos with. Mild in flavor and crunchy. I think it'd make a good fish and chips alternative. Grilled is yummy too or with butter and garlic. Now I'm hungry 🤣
Aloha Misty- I'm a new viewer, follower and subscriber. I really enjoy your videos and content. Hope to run into you someday as I too live on Oahu. Keep up the awesome work! 🤙

@Lfundoo Aw thanks Linda! I have had it with chili, but I just never got into it. But that's probably good for my waistline 🤣 My dad always has to have mac salad with his chili in a plate lunch. Yeah try get you hubby to grab you a cake noodle plate. The Filipino food was great especially since North Star on School Street closed down. So the only choices in Kalihi are M&N and San Nicholas. Try out Liliha Drive Inn too! All the people I've encountered in this video were super friendly and helpful when ordering! Have a great week sister! ❤️☺️

She go!😅 I sometimes stay at our house up in Palisades. Interesting story: The place started as Fire House (same type of menu as Palisades Drive Inn), then it became a Thai restaurant - they left a painting behind on the wall. Both places started off good but fell off in quality. Palisades Drive Inn has been there over 17 years now. I’ve watched the owner’s kids grow up. Everything is pretty good. Aloha Misty: This was a great vlog of the “jewels” of comfort food at the small local neighborhood establishments. The plates from Palisades Drive Inn were huge and must have been awesome. I haven’t had cake noodles in a long time, and it is making want some at the moment. It was nice to see that the old saimin restaurant on King St./Austin Lane is now a Filipino restaurant. The Filipino restaurant looks like it serves some really good authentic Filipino food and the fried chicken looks really tasty. You turning west-bound onto Vineyard from north-bound Liliha got me remembering where my home is. Liliha Drive Inn is a great place for good local-style comfort food. I hope Aiden got to enjoy some that great food which are gourmet dishes to me. 🤣 Thank you for featuring the two places of my neighborhood and the memories of the days gone by. I still remember Liliha Seafood was a great Chinese restaurant before it became Liliha Drive Inn - Nice Day has filled the loss of Liliha Seafood and it does feature dim sum and Chinese food. Keep-up the good vlogging of food and travel. Best wishes and much 🧧to you and ohana, my fellow 🐯!
Aloha Bill! Interesting that you mention an old saimin shop was M&N long before. I never knew that. It is still in those old wooden plantation style buildings, and that is what I love about N. King Street. You don't see these buildings much anymore. Maybe the beginning of Wilikina Drive in Wahiawa, but that's about it. Aiden always eats all my leftovers, as I really don't eat rice or any starch for the rest of the week and pretty much just eat meat. I've never had the pleasure of going to Liliha Seafood, but up the road is another great Chinese restaurant, Moon Garden. Have a wonderful week ahead! Take care.
@@FoodFiend yes, those old buildings are a great treasure to preserve! I am glad that building still exist. The old saimin place was named Hall Saimin. It opened in the afternoon to serve the evening crowd. I still remember that my mom brought her own pot to bring the saimin home for us. Also, the teriyaki sticks were delicious. Alas, just the memories remain. 😀 Good memories of the neighborhood and the neighbors.
"...and she go bruddah." I got a good chuckle from that. Great review of comfort local foods. Time to make the Tomato Beef Stew ...it's been ages since I've made it. And the crunchy, crunchy salt chicken skin...broke da mouth, yeah. It all looked real ono, ono! We are so deprived in the mainland. These franchises over here just don't cut it. Tanks for making me hungry!
Aloha Do! So sorry the restaurants over there in the PNW don't cut it for you. But homemade more bettah anyways! Do you have an instant pot? So easy to make beef stew in it and the meat just melts in your mouth. I beg you guys have perfect fall weather for stew or chili!
M & N foods have been around for years but may be different owners, the food was always tasty one of the best Filipino foods, palasades grill look awesome, big buggas ❤
Yeah always noticed it but never stopped in. Mainly because of the parking. But now I know. Especially since North Star closed there's another option in Kalihi other than San Nicholas.
I actually had it on my list for over a year but never got to it. The parking and hours were hard to get around. But I am glad I went. Was ono! Especially now that North Star closed it's good to know another place serves awesome Filipino food other than San Nicholas in Kalihi.
Misty you brought back some old memories, grew up in Palisades, way before that drive in existed. My old elementary school right across the street...BTW, Have you ever tried Yobo Mart on Pensacola? Little mom and pop market that everyone passes, just tried their special braised chicken last week and was ono, also had some of the regular menu items, Korean plates that are made to order fyi.
@dmm8299 Aloha! Oh thank you for sharing your memories. ☺️ No I never tried Yobo Mart on Pensacola. I'll try put it on my long list of places to try. Mahalo for your suggestion!
I eat at restaurants here and there if you look at my other videos. Sometimes I don't want to eat there myself and I'm very busy and in a rush and rather eat in my car. Especially when it is hot. And I go to parks sometimes but the flies are gross.
Yes, yes Meg’s the best beef and curry stew their curry was the green curry which was the choice in making Hawaiian curry stew. Meg’s used the same homemade yellow sauce on their burgers as Leeward Drive-Inn and the old Dairy Queen in Waianae. When they closed down I had to go to therapy.
Yeah all the great places gone. I used to love going to Dairy Queen after school for fries and a cone. They used to make fries and burgers when I went to school.
Love that place M&N and their dinuguaan vinegar just right and silet inside. They make some killah ube cascaron and Filipino vegetables. BDW what ethnicity are you I ask bc most non Filipino aren’t adventurous enough to eat dinuguan.
Most to me are consistent. But it doesn't always happen. Part of the cooking/restaurant world. But if you want local businesses to thrive we can only support ourselves. People always lament when local icons close which is often nowdays and wish it was still open. Locals can prevent that.
Hope you can find a similar noodle and bake it just right in your oven yourself? I once read a very old article in the newspaper on how to make your own but never saved it.
Hi Misty, have you tried ribs & broth in Waipahu? Same area w/ 808 & Pupukea Grindz. Haven't tried yet. I know you went to the Wahiawa one. This one closer for me.
Sorry I did not. I know it opened there, but didn't try it. I assume it is just as good as their Wahiawa and Aina Haina locations. The menu seems similar and they've gotten good reviews so far. 👍
I don't really go to too many Korean restaurants because I am picky since my mother cooks good Korean food. But I just recently released two videos of two restaurants here: ua-cam.com/video/dAvEVhIbC6A/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/W1b1B3_R_Ok/v-deo.html
😂Soooo, long story short. I was banned from hanaras😅 For complaining about their Pipikaula. I still have the picture of that nasty plate. 🤢🤮 Told him, I wouldn't even feed it to my dogs. We have better places now in Waianae. Love the ol' mom, pops places. Hope you both are well. Let's get together again ♥️🙏🤙
Which place out of all of the places shown? All had pretty hefty portions. Although it might seem expensive to some folks, especially those who do not eat out, all are similar in price as any plate lunch plate in these times.
Where is a place that has GOOD fried rice, that has a good price for its portion size and relatively close to Kapolei? I went to garden isle cafe in Waipahu and they had fried rice that COMPLETELY FILLED the plate lunch container to the top for $12, which is really good for me. However even though the taste wasn’t bland like Panda Express, it could have been better. Could I please get some recommendations? Thanks.
@locomojoboy2 I'm not really into prices so not sure, but I do enjoy Rocky's Cafe's fried rice the best. And Juliez adobo fried rice in Kapolei. Also Waipahu Cafe for kimchi fried rice. 🤙
@@FoodFiendwhere is Rocky’s cafe? I looked it up in Google and my gps and I get no search results for “Rocky’s Cafe.” All I keep getting is “Rocky’s Coffee Shop.”
@@FoodFiendHi again, I replied but my comment was deleted for some reason. Could you tell me where Rocky’s Cafe is? I’ve looked it up online and in my gps and I don’t get any results back for “Rocky’s Cafe.” I just keep getting “Rocky’s Coffee Shop.”
I understand. I don't like vinegar at all in my food and adobo is not something I would order on my own. I do like it if it is balanced with other flavors though and it is not too sour.
That man that created the logo, he did it with the kindness of his heart. Why did you feel that you needed to pay him off? Why do you feel that money solves problems? That is sad. Try to imagine people being kind unconditionally.
Because people need to be acknowledged for their work. He did message me and appreciated it. Especially with hard times living here he can buy something he wants. Plus, that's the local way. You dont sound kama'aina. We always give back.

Sorry I did not. I know it opened there, but didn't try it. I assume it is just as good as their Wahiawa and Aina Haina locations. The menu seems similar and they've gotten good reviews so far. 👍
BTW, what camera do you use?
I use multiple ones. This one was a DJI osmo pocket 3. Used to use a 2 but sold it. Usually I use a DJI Osmo Action.
Can you highlight some Korean restaurants too in the Honolulu and kakaako area
I don't really go to too many Korean restaurants because I am picky since my mother cooks good Korean food. But I just recently released two videos of two restaurants here:

Already did them long time ago. Ono food. So long ago that the Old Saimin House is gone.

🤣 You're so funny. I'm really picky with my pipikaula so I totally understand. I gotta hit up the new spot T8ste Buds. Have you gotten to try it yet?
@FoodFiend true story 🤣
Oh Yes. So good. Love their spicy ahi taco sushi. 😋 which is what they are famous for creating. Others copy now
Food is good there. Portions are small and expensive.
@@FoodFiendthanks I’ll give those a shot
@@FoodFiendwhere is Rocky’s cafe? I looked it up in Google and my gps and I get no search results for “Rocky’s Cafe.” All I keep getting is “Rocky’s Coffee Shop.”
@@FoodFiendHi again, I replied but my comment was deleted for some reason. Could you tell me where Rocky’s Cafe is? I’ve looked it up online and in my gps and I don’t get any results back for “Rocky’s Cafe.” I just keep getting “Rocky’s Coffee Shop.”
@locomojoboy2 sorry yeah it was Rocky's coffee shop.
I tried cooking chicken adobo twice I don't care for vinegar in my food.
This is why I can never go vegan. 😂😂😂
🤣 anyways unless you eat strictly veggies, tofu and fruits all that vegan stuff is so processed it's nasty. So you're good, meat eater! 🤙👍
@@FoodFiend tofu gives me the gag reflex.
