Pardon the cut at the end. Battery died lol.
So... @YOURBATTERYWASDYING ?
@@kuhpunkt gimmick infringement at its finest
Scar Jo is definitely the MVP of this movie. Taika Waititi blended the comedy and drama really well.
Roman Griffin Davies was the standout for me. The entire movie was reliant on his 11 year old shoulders and he smashed it.
scar jo's character was so likable and such a good mom. if she wasn't so likable, her death wouldn't have hit so hard for us and for jojo.
if you ask me, everyone did an outstanding job. It's really hard for me to assign one person the MVP status when it comes to this film.
Scar Jo acted in this movie really well, but the real mvp is Captain K. He was in the inside man for the anti nazi movement Rosie was a part of, always looked out for Jojo and went straight to his house after Rosie was executed, covered for Elsa right in front of the Gestapo , and saved Jojo in the very end when he was in custody. They were so subtle with his character that you don't even realize everything he did until you watch it again.
Another great detail in this film is Hitler constantly offering cigarettes and eating unicorn meat when in reality Hitler was staunchly against smoking and was a known vegetarian. Just goes to show that Jojo only fantasizes this idealized version of Hitler, he actually has no clue what he was really like until the end when he sees he was a monster all along.
And the slow transformation from silly to sinister is done excellently. Even the sound is different. In the one where he was saying it sounded like a real translated speech it even sounds like it's coming through microphones. The only way that JoJo would have ever ACTUALLY heard Hitler speak.
Hitler
was not a vegetarian
Hitler actually loved animals so he doesn't like to eat them
@@brennies24 he was, he loved animals and never ate them. I’m pretty sure he executed people who abused animals
@@stupidstickman boy I feel so much better about Shitler because he loved animals and would never eat them.
The Captain came to the house to try and help the kids after learning that Jojo's Mum had been hanged. He's got her bike and although he couldn't directly oppose the SS guys he did just enough to save them.
We don't know for sure.
@@richierich7229 It's fairly clear that it's correct.
@@richierich7229 He's got her bike, he hides the Jew girl's incorrect birthdate then later sacrifices himself to save JoJo when the city is liberated. Yeah, I think we can be sure.
@@Yggdrasil42 Still doesn't mean he knew about Rosie. And the director said that wasn't her bike.
@@richierich7229 He also tells Jojo to take care of his family when he leaves. He knows Rosie is dead. It's not confirmed, but close enough.
Captain K was the shit
ScarJo and Sam Rockwell (Captain K) were MVP for me. Cap K's last scene got me in the feels so hard.
Captain K broke my heart with that last smile, knowing he was a dead man walking, and looking forward to seeing people he missed for a rather long while.
The opening Beatles song was recorded by the Beatles in German, using phonetically spelt lyrics, prior to their first scheduled tour there. They were not famous yet and the studio thought a German version was needed for sales. However, by the time they were headed to Germany the Beatles phenomenon was starting.
My personal favorite movie of all time. So many good moments, a beautiful balance of comedy and drama. The scene where he finds the mom always hits like an absolute truck. Also, wins the award for best use of ‘Fuck’ in a PG-13 movie with “Fuck off Hitler”
its subtly implied that captain K is gay. his partner is part of the staff too that trains the kids.
Subtle. . . .if you know history, there's no doubt at the end. The nazis forced homosexuals to wear pink triangle patches just as they made the jews wear the star of David. So that scene at the end with his glorious new uniform decked out in pink triangles was like " well I guess that settles it" lol
@@Strider91 subtle... until that part i guess?
I honestly loved this movie's approach to homosexuals during that time. it doesn't hit you over the head and have this long dramatic back story for Captain K, but just kinda sprinkles in some clues that makes you wonder.
@@Strider91 Just a little nitpick - Jewish "identification" in concentration camps was usually a yellow triangle, not the star. But yes, the pink triangle was for male homosexuals. It was sort of reclaimed in the 70s. You can see it used in Rocky Horror Picture Show for instance.
They did such great job building up how adorable ScarJo is and when she died I was wrecked. Taika is amazing. You should react to 'What We Do in the Shadows' movie next and then the series after that. So good.
i second "what we do in the shadows", so witty and hilarious
her death might be one of the saddest deaths I've seen. simply because she was so good, and sympathetic. but above all, JoJo couldn't have asked for a better mom. But what makes it even sadder, is the fact that JoJo, this 10 year old boy, is now completely alone, with no one to look after him.
The best bit part is by Stephen Merchant as the super tall Nazi that comes to JoJo's house. He's hilarious always. He's 6'7", by the way.
He’s super funny, but also so unsettling.
yeah he's like a writer/part-director for this movie too or something.
They made him even taller when he leans in front of Sam Rockwell by making him stand on crates
This is one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie. What most people reacting/reviewing this movie either don't mention or understand is that in Nazi Germany "Heil Hitler" was the official greeting. Meaning, you were supposed to, by law, say Heil Hitler instead of Hello.
Whew did this movie hit me like a truck
This is such an excellent movie. The entire cast is fantastic, amazing cinematography, and it really works so much better than it has any right to. Feel like a lot of people swore it off before giving it a chance based on the premise, so glad you guys liked it. It's hilarious but also not afraid to delve into some serious concepts and heartfelt moments. To wrap a coming of age story around a young idealistic kid who is fed propaganda and doesn't know any better, and begins to question whether what he's being taught is right or wrong is surprisingly profound for a satire with an imaginary Hitler. At least you guys saw Scar Jo's end coming. I know I didn't put it together, the shots of the shoes were bugging me the whole time asking myself why they were doing that, and then it hits and you realize why they did it that way. Welp looking forward to subbing to Patreon in Feb or March to check out the full length. Cheers!
Love that this film subverted your expectations, great reaction Fam! Yeah, That German Shepherds gag always makes LOL.
Hopefully you guys will react to Taika's Vampire Mockumentary, _"What We Do In The Shadows"_ soon, it's really good :).
2:14 you guys are the first reactors that I've seen who actually laugh at that moment. I thought there was something wrong with me, my dad, and my brother, because we laughed our asses off at that scene. I get it, I winced when the bomb blew up right at his feet, but I just loved Captain K pointing and saying, "Don't do that."
Great reactions! It certainly deserves acknowledgement as the first "feel good Nazi movie." More than that, I think that it is a coming of age story of a kid who was indoctrinated by the Nazis for his entire life. On his own (and through interaction with both his mom and a Jewish girl hiding in his wall), he went from idolizing Hitler to seeing Hitler and the Nazis for what they were. It's a fantastically-crafted film with a moving story. I think that I actually saw a tear in Jimmy Macram's eye too. As much as I liked most of the other nominees (and winning-film Parasite), I feel that JoJo Rabbit should have won the Academy Award for "Best Picture" last year.
"Life is Beautiful" from 1997 is rather comedic and about the Holocaust.
Er ist wieder da
This film made me cry so much I wasn’t prepared
This movie is really close to perfection in how it achieves what it set out to do, which is really difficult. The entire cast is lovely. The direction is wonderful. Can’t sing the praises of this movie enough.
I showed up because audiences didn't drag the movie for being insensitive that I recall, and I was told it was a comedy about nazis. I came prepared for a comedy, got gut punched, and recognized the reason it didn't get dragged was entirely because all the actors knew which scenes were comedy and which were to remind people of the reality. The movie really felt like you were experiencing it through Jojo's eyes, as a 10 year old kid who just thinks this is what life is and all the problems were far away until they weren't anymore.
Jojo is the mvp for me - believe it or not he has no acting background which really says a lot on his performance. :D
man...y'all really held strong for not crying or at least tearing up when jojo hugged his dead mom. i immediately thought of my own mom and could not stop crying.
JoJo and Ragnarok are fine, but you gotta see Waititi's other films "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" and "What We Do in the Shadows". Funniest shit you ever saw.
“Boy” is pretty good too!
agreed
I’m glad y’all enjoyed! I love this movie, made me cry like a baby when I first watched it 😅
Absolutely fantastic movie.
This movie is amaaaaazing 💜✨
Fun Fact: The only reason this movie got made is because Taika agreed to play Hitler, so the production company didn't have to put out *that* casting call.
Source? Why would the casting call be problematic?
@@kuhpunkt No one wants to put out a casting call for Hitler. There are very few actors willing to do that role, and basically none in a comedic context.
Assuming YT doesn't eat the link, here's an article about how Fox Searchlight was only willing to pick up the project if Waiti played Hitler: www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/taika-waititi-playing-hitler-laughs-jojo-rabbit-1236221
If it eats the link, its a Hollywood Reporter article, first non-wikipedia hit for the google search "jojo rabbit taika hitler"
@@Zer0SumGame I highly doubt that.
@@Zer0SumGame tell that to Bruno Ganz and Oliver Masucci.
@@josef-ralfdwerlkotte8333 I did say very few, not none. Fox could have definitely gone to Masucci, he's done Hitler in a comedy, and very well at that. Ganz, however, was in chemo for intestinal cancer during production of Jojo Rabbit, and in fact died before the movie was released. By several months.
The other part of why Taika played Hitler is, well, to use Taika's own words, having a Russo-Polynesian Jew play Hitler is just a great "Fuck You" to the bastard and everything he stood for, and Fox Searchlight and Taika both recognized that.
That butterfly scene, it always get me...
Damn allergies
I really need a second version of this movie from her perspective. Like being in the walls while they were searching or not knowing if the house would stand during the attack. Finding out the woman who saved you died for it. I know it would lose pretty much all comedy aspects however it is a story I need to witness.
Damn it, Now I have to watch this!😁
Watched and loved it. NOW for the reaction...
This movie made me call my mom man.... it was rough.
Another Taika Waititi film about a child growing up, another God damn masterpiece.
Love the use of a Tom Waits song. And the butterfly scene...they just drop it in our laps with no warning. Devastating.
Captain K. should have his own film, a prequel.
Absolutely love this movie ❤
I loved this reaction from you, I hope you continue with more flicks on your channel.
Maybe try Life of Pi, or Cinema Paradiso (not the director's cut)?
This was the best movie in 2019 and it honestly wasnt close
no
@@parsashojaei1352 you're allowed to have a wrong opinion
That li'l kid nailed it.
great reaction to a great film. you guys really held strong on the tears lol.
There's a pretty overlooked WWII film called Anthropoid. It's with Cillian Murphy, so that's automatically a win for me haha. The film is based on the true story of Operation Anthropoid, the secret mission that was organized by various governments to assassinate Heydrich, who was one of the highest ranking Nazis and basically the one who carried out the operations of the Holocaust. If you know your history, you'll know how the operation turned out. It's a really heavy film though, it made me feel much more heavy than Schindler's List did.
There's also another film called Valkyrie with Tom Cruise, about the true story of one of the more famous assassination attempts on Hitler (all of them were unsuccessful obviously). A good film also, a little less heavy than Anthropoid.
Loved this movie, great reaction too.
Frick, what a movie.
I bawled like a baby at that scene.
This movie is just so damn good. So good. MVP is the kid. Incredible.
Fantastic movie! Great reaction guys!
10:26-10:38 LOL.
13:24 Hold it in...hoooooold it in.....
I wished you watched They Live so that then you could watch the cripple fight from South Park
WOW. Almost like 2020.
best movie i've ever seen in my life!
Stephen merchant is a comedy writer and actor famous in uk
Done a lot of work with Ricky gervais
You should react to all of Waititis films. Hilarious
I love love this movie!!! ❤️
The shoes 😭
man, i like you guys, but i can't hear you on your microphone set-up. every once in a while, i try to watch one of your videos, just in case the audio has improved, but i still can't hear you. bad ears.
Yeah, I wish they'd wear lapel mics.
Isle of Dogs next
schindler list pls
Love hat the music is off by 3 decades after the war.
Yankee with brim
The scene with Stephen Merchant is chilling. At first we laugh at his buffoonery and the Heil HItler jokes, but later you realize they are probably the ones that arrested and hung JoJo's mom in cold blooded murder.
Can you please react to the funniest comedy ever called The Heavenly Kid From 1985, please
Check out Thomasin McKenzie's other works. (The girl in the wall)
Leave No Trace is amazing movie.
I have watched almost every movie where Thomasin McKenzie was in after i saw Jojo Rabbit.
She is just great actress.
Very bright future.
@@Mirrori I was also very pleased with Leave No Trace.
Watch Apocalypto
Plz react to FreeFire on Netflix
Damn you guys need better sound! Can’t hear anything you say.
I love this movie and scarjo is the best but I can't help but cringe at the accent she's doing here. It doesn't sound german at all.
Weird, but teaching kids burning books, kinda like now with cancel culture and our children being fed anti american values.history repeats.
Not really but go off I guess.
Not at all
Nope. Just nope.
