That reveal of her shoes was so heartbreaking to me, but it was really beautifully done this whole movie was I think.
The scene where the officers inspect their home.... She was already gone by then... 😢 That's why they inspected the home...
I agree.
Bruh 💀
The first time I saw this I loudly gasped, did this whole stereotypical hand in front of the mouth thing while looking shocked, before starting to bawl my eyes out. I loved his mom. :(
In such an extremist climate the best his parents could do is NOT let his opinions deviate from the “norm” at such a young age. He could accidentally slip and say something that would put him and his family in danger since children don’t really have filters and are too innocent to lie. We also have to assume that regardless of parents, from a young age these children are practically raised by the regime from early on so that they aren’t influenced by any outside views.
Also Germany had tight social constrictions, neighbours would report you if you didn't allow your child to join things like the Hitlerjugand. Some kids even reported their parents. Rosie's actions and Jojo's differing beliefs make total sense but only if you understand the dynamics during that time in the third Reich.
The tonal shift of the multiple heil hitlers-gag where it's funny with JoJo, Captain K and Freddie Finkle but then shifting to Elsa having to heil all the gestapo people.... genious and chilling.
genius
The Gestapo were the ones who killed his mom. They searched the house after they killed her, looking for evidence of co-conspirators. Captain K ran there because he knew what happened to her and what was about to happen to Jojo.
Captain K going out loud and proud was absolutely badassery. And yes, him and Freddie were lovers.
rosie had already been killed when the gestapo came (that's why they came), jojo just didn't know yet. captain k ran over when he found out rosie was dead to help jojo. he knew what was going on when elsa said she was jojo's sister because he knew the sister was dead, that's why he covered for elsa when she got the birthday wrong. him and finkle were gay (taika waititi confirmed it and that's why their uniforms at the end had the upside-down pink triangles, the nazi symbol for gay men) and you could tell captain k knew it was wrong (and he said rosie was a good person for her resistance efforts) but he would've been killed if he didn't go along with all of it. and then he saved jojo in the end.
7:19 - yes, Hitler surviving a bomb attack assassination attempt was a real event, they made a whole movie about it with Tom Cruise. It's called Valkyrie.
Another WWII film based on a true story is Anthropoid with Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan. It's about Operation Anthropoid, the mission to assassinate the SS general Heydrich, the guy who orchestrated the Final Solution and third in command after Hitler and Himmler.
mike read this !!
Taika Waititi, who wrote and directed this, and played Hitler, is half Maori and half Jewish. He said it was important to have Hitler being played by a Jew.
Please watch the Downfall scene that was used to promote Jojo. You will enjoy it
I love love love watching peoples reactions to watching this the first time. Almost always they start out like “I’m not sure about this” and then end up sobbing but smiling and saying “that’s one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen”. To go into something already having trepidation and dealing with very heavy content in a sometimes very funny way and then being able to turn it into something so universally touching is the true mark of a brilliant film. Taika knocked it out of the park directing, writing, acting, and casting this - very genius and brave.
So glad you got to experience this film, and so glad you enjoyed it! Love Taika Waititi ❤️
Early grenades were pretty random with their spread pattern. It was not unusual for someone to having a grenade go off next to them to come out relatively unscathed.
oh also the guy who played Hitler is also the director, Taika Waititi. If you liked Jojo Rabbit, you'd like another film he directed and acted in - What We Do In The Shadows, it's a mockumentary comedy. If you've ever seen the tv show The Office, it's basically like that, except it's about a group of vampires who are roommates in modern day New Zealand. Very funny and witty, well-written and creative.
Shadows is absolutely hilarious
It's simple, the kids were taught in school the 'party' comes first, and children were encouraged unwittingly to nark on their parents, so the parents were too scared to correct their children or tell them what they really thought.
Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo) had never acted before this (other than like a flower in a school play or something iirc) so it makes his acting that much more impressive!
Yorki was a first timer too
I highly recommend What We Do in the Shadows. Taika (the Director and Actor portraying Hitler in this) also stars in that and co directed it. It’s fucking hilarious.
Almost piss myself everytime I watch that
Also Hunt for the Wilderpeople
I love JoJo Rabbit, its such a good movie. Taika is a great storyteller, perfect mix of comedy but the serious stuff holds weight.
Another great Taika Waititi movie is Hunt For The Wilderpeople, Sam o'Neill and the kid from Deadpool 2 are in it.
As well as a vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows.
Love how you keep saying how great of an actor this kid is, this was actually his first ever role! And also, the director and creator Taika Waititi is also the one playing imaginary Hitler!
I'm so happy you reacted to this movie. It is genuinely one of my my favorites of all time. This may be my favorite reaction from you. I'm so happy you loved it.
This movie is from Taika Waititi, who also plays Hitler.
17:55 They already knew she was dead when they were there the first time. In fact, that's the whole reason they showed up at his house, including Captain K (whoo!), who rushed there trying to protect Jojo. That's why he told him to stay at home, so he wouldn't see her... One sad detail is that she never even knew that Jojo befriended Elsa.
No choose. All children had to join the Hilter youth. They were actually instructed to report their parents if they spoke or did anything against the Reich.
The Hitlers testicle reference is about a song the English soldiers sang “Hitler has only got one ball, the other is in the Albert Hall”
Oh wow I didn't know that lol
So It's not a reference to him actually having an undescended testicle?
captain k knew the mom died, he was bringing home her bike and thats why he covered for elsa
The kid that played Yorki gives me some CRAZY Ricky Gervais vibes.....
A masterpiece of a film. Funny, heartwarming & breaks your heart.
i love this movie its so good how it manages to jump back and forward between humor and drama, i laugh so much and then bawl my eyes out when the mom dies
My heart SANK when we see the mom's shoes in the square. On another note, Captain K is one of my favorite characters in this movie! It's a lot more evident on a rewatch, but he's been against nazis since the beginning. He purposefully does a shit job teaching Hitler youths, you see him looking somber at the book burning when the other nazis are celebrating, he comes to rescue Jojo from the Gestapo after the mom dies, then says Jojo's mom was an actual good person and saves him. There is so much more information, so many more details proving he was only masking as a nazi and was actually part of the resistance. And yes, him and Finkel were gay lovers, hence the inverted pink triangle on their uniforms at the end. Just like Jews were made to wear the star of David on their clothes, gays had to wear this inverted pink triangle.
Wonderful selection. Wonderful reaction vid. Thanks for this one.
I think you may be the first person to make the father-substitute connection so early on in the film.
When the kid kicked Hitler out the window, I would have loved if his mom appeared for a second to say "you call that a kick? You can do better than that" and then he actually does. Like as if his father's voice in his head is now replaced by 'what would mom say?', but oh well, tiny quibble for such a grand film.
The one armed pirate reference is a real thing - Operation Valkyrie. It was such a delicate operation that failed miserably, had the table bomb not been moved slightly, the German rebels (who wanted to leave the Nazi party) would have killed Hitler. There’s a movie starring Tom Cruise about the event named “Valkyrie”, highly recommended checking it out.
Taika Waititi (Hitler) won an Oscar for his screenplay. It was inspired by the book "Caging Skies". Incredible movie.
It's an incredible adaptation. The book was excellent as well but EXTREMELY different. If you decide to read it, don't go in expecting JoJo Rabbit or you'll be sorely disappointed.
@@Steelburgh I did buy it Bob, but I haven't read it yet. I'll keep that in mind. Thank you.
If you give this a 8 out of 10, then what can be a10??
Heh right? If he literally loved everything about it, that's 10/10 material you'd think. Still, great reaction.
Captain K and Freddie Finkel are not Nazis. They are German, and they are gay. As young men, they had little choice but to join the Army. Maybe they did have other choices, like going underground and joining the resistance, and end up hanging in the town square or in a concentration camp. But, realistically, most men did as they did, and just hoped they would survive.
7:10 Stauffenberg assassination attempt is a real story
I can’t express how much I enjoy your videos man. This is a channel in the works of getting a million subs
The first casualty of was is always the truth. Second you de-humanize your enemy.
I love this movie
the thing about a pirate trying to blow up Hitler is real, his name was Claus von Stauffenberg and Jojo calls him a pirate in his imagination because the dude had one eye. Him and a few other high ranking nazi officers conspired to assassinate Hitler, probably because they saw Hitler is going too far and if the other nations gang up on them, Germany has no future.
There is even a movie about it called Valkyrie with Tom Cruise playing Stauffenberg, great movie MOSTLY historically accurate :)
That look at 13:16 yeah, they were a thing in the movie! If you pause at 19:38 you can see a pink triangle on his uniform, during the war they would put pink triangles on the gay people in the concentration camps.
Hey Mike room 1408 was movie that kinda stayed with me.
in WW2 the boy scouts in america used to go around collecting metals and supplies and......and....delivered secret codes ....funny it was all in the field manuals back in the early 30s editions .....pretty interesting.
Usually people who have imaginary friends, have them because it’s there way to cope with a situation. In a way the fact that he had trouble saying hitler suggests he was not completely comfortable with it . He could not harm the rabbit suggest his true nature. By making hitler his friend was in a way a coping mechanism to accept him. That’s what I think .
The scene where Hitler talks about the table bomb, it's a real event it's actually a Tom Cruise movie called Valkyrie
17:20 the ways we used to torture people are also so dark. the things we used to do to people is disgusting
Tahika is a legend. I'm a WWII historian especially the Holocaust. Own 20-30 holocaust books. Scarlets death WAS NOT COOL!!! 😥😥😥 that came out of nowhere
We laugh at the kissing a Jew thing, but that too was real. Oskar Schindler was arrested and nearly faced prison time for publicly kissing a Jewish woman.
It is a good movie without doubt and very thought provoking, do yourself and the younger people around you a service and really study up on WW2 and WW1, over one hundred million humans lost their live during WW2 alone, all that propaganda that you just laughed at and could not belive could happen is actually happening right now,. Those who forget the past are bound to repeat it.
Exactly!
I've watched this around the time, when I first watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Two CRAZY good performances by Sam Rockwell.
If you enjoy some of this more serious stuff, go check out some of these movies:
The Fountain
Predestination
Desert Flower
No one ever reacts to those, but they're brilliant!
She didn’t believe the letters. The first one just hurt her because he was being a shitty little kid.
This kid was so good in Silent Knight too. That’s another one you should check out.
The "Boy Scouts" thing was the Hitler Youth. Yes it 8s similar.
And make n9 mistake: The idea for Boy Scouts in the US and the UK was too to have kids bs able to do cool Army and Survival stuff, in a playful manner.
Im going to have to go watch this now
Rebel Wilson before the weight loss.
This movie is flawless! ♥
yes Operation Valkyrie was a real thing, there is a movie about it with Tom Cruise :) there were multiple attempts at Hitler's assassination but this one is probably the most well known :)
It was very clear in the movie that Jojo was part of the Hitler Youth group and that is where he consumed all of the propaganda and became a fanatic like his mom said. It was common back then for kids to be enrolled in Hitler Youth.
Bro please watch Collateral. Mentioned it on your Wick and Equalizer reactions. You will not be disappointed. Cruise best role. Or close. Michael Mann directed it. That's the real hit man movie.
Btw, great reaction. Loved this movie. So different. She didn't believe the letters btw. Yeah she was just letting him cheer her back up. Also, yeah, that's the least of the worst that happened. The Holocaust was absolutely disgusting. Embarrassed for the human race in general even if it wasn't us in particular.
When you talk about the science behind war, it's weird to say but the medical advancements because of war have saved more lives than were lost during the war. Also, there's a movie called The death of Stalin which is similar, a collection of true stories that are so crazy that only could be told as some kind of dark slapstick comedy. Steve Buscemi is great in that movie, and when you know all the absurdities that happened in real life it's really sad.
Unrestricted science is some of the most scary and incredible shit ever. Setting morals aside, the wonders we could come up with if we let the reigns go on true science and experimentation would probably be ridiculous. It begs the question of "just how much are we holding ourselves back?".
Obviously I'm not saying we should do it, but as a question to ponder, it's quite intriguing.
Honestly, my favorite part of your reactions is your accent, LOL. Is it "Southie"?
Keep it up, my guy.
I love your accent. It is so hard to pinpoint. It sounds alittle Boston?
Thos was JoJo's first movie. The kid was amazing. The writing was done by Taika Waitit as well as directing and playing the imaginary friend Hitler. He said the best screw you he could think of was for a jewish person to play Hitler. He created this based off of his mother's description of a book she wanted him to read. When he read it he realized she was way off-base. Taika and the cast talking about trying to pitch this movie is really funny. I don't know how I would have pitched it.
The Northman gooooatted ong need a reaction
Where’d the outro song go??
Highly recommend Schindler's List.
Good movie.. I was hoping it to be a little more funny but the subject matter can not be made fun of and so the tone changes did work and it was a well done movie.. it's very hard for me to watch movies about this but everyone should watch movies about ww2 and the awful things done to people during this time. The message is clear.. let's love one another.. get rid of hate!!
i loved how this movie approached comedy within this topic honestly. i was nervous to even watch this movie reaction due to the subject matter but they did a rly good job of being funny without mocking the trauma of ww2.
Captain K(GAY)...never caught on to that until now lol
You seem to like crazy absurdist movies. You'd really enjoy Everything Everywhere All at Once :D
You should watch inglorious basterds its set in ww2
"How can he be so opposite of her and her beliefs?". Well, you see.. she was alive before the war. He was raised in it. All that indoctrination and propaganda seeps in. There is also the fact that they were obligated to send their kids to their schools which heavily indoctrinated the children. Time with families was limited in the early years. Time in camps and schools were lengthy and heavily regulated.
Kind of makes you stop and worry about how kids in America spend more time in school then on homework than ever before and parents are forced to work longer and longer hours...
You're absolutely right!
Can you react to the incision movie next
Yorki boolin
Do a reaction to “Law abiding citizen” it’s cool af
You should watch the cult of chucky
When you do you should check out the curse of chucky which was before that one.
reaction THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON movie thank you
💜💙🖤
I really really really enjoyed this film I thought they did such a good job it is dark yes.
Hey quick tip : maybe pause when you comment because you missed dialogues so much
Watch American History X not funny at all but it’s a good watch.
I am rather shocked at the number of people posting reactions to this film who have not heard of the Hitler Youth!
Oops no choice!!
