MILITARY A321NEO! German Air Force Airbus A321LR at Calgary Airport (YYC)

- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- On Sunday evening, this German Air Force A321neo flew into Calgary International Airport! It stayed overnight and flew back the following afternoon to Germany, via Iceland.
I don't know why they were here, but these sorts of military visitors are not uncommon throughout the summer in Calgary. What is unusual though is the fact that it's a military A321neo, specifically, the LR version!
This one was officially delivered just over a year ago, and was apparently the first ever Airbus "neo" intended for military use. These will be used by the German Air Force for transport and medical evacuation flights, and they have two of these in the fleet as of now.
Very cool to see this new plane in person! Enjoy the video!

Nice! Never knew the luftwaffe had A321NEOS.
As a German, it's good to see that they have the A321neo because we finally spent some money on our military (even though I already knew about this plane).
As an avgeek, I don't like it because it replaced our beautiful A310s 😢
How do you feel about RCAF going with A330MRTT to replace the A310 here, ie cc150 Polaris. Truly an end of an Era for that plane
@@fdanieln8759 Very sad, basically the same Germany did. We got A321neo and some NATO A330MRTT as a replacement for the A310. 😥
Das mochte ich auch nicht.
But you now, the A310 are from the former GDR airline Interflug, and almost 40 jears old.
@@Powerbertl66 I know that and it also makes sence, however, it's still sad
Stunning catch of this special neo! Big like!
Great footage, Alex!
Alex: As always you catch the good stuff for those of us who just can't get enough aviation footage. The German and Canadian military have been training together for many years. They most likely were on their way to CFB Suffield as do the British Armed Forces do. Similarities in battlefield equipment and the largest training base (bombing range) in Canada make it attractive to European military's.
Thanks
Fantastical Luftwaffe Color Livery
Incredible up-close footage!
Excellent coverage. Love the gopher whistles! Not enough hawks at YYC…..
Alex it is a so amazing video! Ich mag die A321neo meiner deutschen Luftwaffe sehr.
Very good!
And keep it up!
They sent German soldiers to train with Canadians for paratrooper training. A few of the soldiers were on my flight from Lethbridge to Calgary that I was operating as the flight attendant.
Es war für ne NATO Übung der ABC-Abwehr, war selbst auf dem Flug dabei
@@ReclaimerDSD Danke für die Information! Thanks for the Information!👍
Livery 👌
Beautiful capturing ❤
The startup sound from that angle is orgasmic
Great video Alex! Looking forward to your footage on Thursday from YEG :)
I saw a Belgian A400 on flight radar land in Calgary today also around 1300hrs
Nice to get a wave from the FO.
I did happen to see this aircraft on my drive home from EDM, great find!
Come to Winnipeg for the Porter launch!
Thank you very much!🙂👍
Cool video, thumbs up!!
Awesome video! I'm very surprised that luftwaffe uses these aircrafts. I guess it was pretty rare for you to catch.
Royal Canadian Air Force owns 5 A310s and is replacing them with A330s . I think it's pretty common for large militaries to own some planes like this.
Great video, thank you.
Nice! Thanks for posting eh! Stay well!
I have pictures & video of it when RON at DFW on 12/9/2023. Beautiful looking aircraft.
Joint ops at Suffield...
Another nice video
Was there a. Elugium air force a400M at Calgary?
I think it landed Aug 1st
Very nice!
I was on BA's YYC-LHR many years back and seated beside someone from the Royal British Army. We got chatting and he was saying how British forces do quite a bit of training on exchange on a base in southern Alberta during the summers. I wonder if this could be connected to a similar exchange or training program?
Yes, for tanks. Just as Happy Valley-Goose Bay used to be (no more) used for low level training that could not be done in Europe.
I wish BA would bring back that flight!
@@brucemckean2848 Indeed.
Great catch. I wonder why they didn’t add air stairs like ACJ’s have?
handsome plane
I have a question. Does the British Antarctic Survey still fly there with their dash 7 and do they fly straight from Antarctica or do they stop somewhere.
I recall them coming and going from Wainwright if that's still a thing
Damn I have no idea how ATCs do it, sometimes pilots are completely unintelligible.
Sounds better and clearer in the headset
^ what he said.
do they have wifi? asually the bump on top is for the WiFi system isn’t it?
I think this one was at Lufthansa so it’s probably that
@@bean9005 It was purposely built for them as far as I can remember.
Purpose built for Luftwaffe but I can see it being used for some instrumentation or even WiFi
It’s a military plane. I assume, this is some kind of radar system.
@@JayJayAviation “sir there are enemy aircraft inbound call in air suppo-“
“SHUT UP PRIVATE IM WATCHING FAMILY GUY”
German Luftwaffe pilots are often in Canda for training that can't be done in Europe, like low-level flying. So it could well have been a troop transport.
Fun fact, I was on that flight^^
When it comes to the sales brochure this is listed by Arbus as part of the M3A A320neo military versions. I wonder if the Canadian military can get one of these and carry missiles for Maritime patrols over Atlantic Pacific and Arctic oceans. Competes with B737 ng military versions future B737 max military
I like your idea, I thought the same of the A220.
Ah maybe the in flight wifi does work on those then? Eh Luft-ohne-wifi-hansa?
What do you use to listen to ATC?
RadarBox or LiveATC
An interesting clip of our Air Force's new A321neo 15 +10 from Canada / Iceland. // Ein interessanter Clip von der neuen A321neo unserer Luftwaffe 15 +10 aus Kanada / Island.
Why are military visitors not uncommon for summer in Calgary? 🤔
Too bad you couldn't have gotten a tour of the aircraft. I'd be curious to see how the interior is outfitted.
It can differ. It can take up to 220 personal or be used for medivacs with full flat beds and VIP transport
Luftwaffe got a taste of brand-new aircraft in their A350s and evidently liked it?
현명한 선택
고연비 비행기
Friendly Germans. :)
Fantastic.
ALSO fabulous is Airbus' militar replacement for the Hercules 130.
The US Air Force loved it. However, lobbying compelled the American Armed Forces bo buy inferior, domestic-build sirplaned.
*belugium air force
Belgium a beluga ?
It interesting that the German Air Force kept all the markings from WW2 except the swastika. The iron cross still gives me the creeps
It’s crazy to me that they didn’t rebrand after WW2 😂 even that cross gives a certain vibe
Luftwaffe literally translates to airforce. The iron cross pre-dates the nazis by a lot.
The Luftwaffe (which means air force in german btw) and the iron cross go back much farther then WW2. on WW1 biplanes you can see the cross being used on German aircraft to represent to luftwaffe during that time.
I actually speak German, and am aware of the history. However, after everything that happened I would have changed it up a bit, a new chapter.
It´s indeed the Iron Cross. It was created as the Symbol of the Prussian Army in 1813 at the time of the Napoleonic Wars by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, a famous architect and artist. It stayed the Symbol of the German Armed Forces after the Unification of Germany under Prussian Rule 1866/1871, as Symbol of the German Armed Forces during the Weimar Republic, during the Nazi Time and also after the Founding of the Federal Armed Forces of (then West-)Germany in 1955 and also after Reunification in 1990. So it´s a Symbol of German History for more than 200 years with its Finest Hours, it Good Sides, its Bad Sides and its Worst Part.
The Form in which it is usually put in "Computer Language" is e.g. "15 + 10" as in this case - also the "+" has nothing to do with a "plus".
Well the cross is a Teutonic cross and used by German peoples for around 1500 years. So yeah they are not going to ditch that symbol
Terrible color for that aircraft. A nice Euro white w/ some German stripes (like their a350) would’ve looked a helluva lot better.
The Luftwaffe separate their fleet into the 'grey' and 'white' fleet. White fleet is for government VIP flights only. Grey fleet means it is intended for military use only.
German taxes at their best
Schönes Flugzeug. Leider völlig unnötig! 🙈
