  • Hi! Thanks for visiting the channel!
    Thanks to Mr. Steven Hoyle for providing the instruction manual for this kit!
    And also thanks to all viewers for showing interest in the videos I've uploaded, commenting on the videos, giving hints, appreciate the models, and subscribing in such amazing numbers.
    As 1000 subscribers came closer since the Bismarck Turret video, I wanted to do something special as a next build, and now, the huge 1/200 HMS Rodney from Trumpeter is finished, a little delayed, now we stand at around 1050 Subscribers.
    I hope you will like this video and the finished model!
    The music was taken from:

    Many years ago I had the privilege of working with a man who had served aboard HMS Rodney throughout WWII and took part in the sinking of the Bismarck. R.I.P. Cecil. You were a good one !

    Peter congrats on 1000 subscribers! When you said a big project, you were not kidding. What a beautiful kit. Again I loved the camouflage paint schemes, great work. When you did the stenciling on the hull, it reminded me of when my ships were in drydock, I would go down and look at the hull, and that's what it looked like. Awesome build and video Peter and again congratulations on the 1000 mark, in a few months you will be doing a 2000 subscribers build! Have a great week and stay safe and healthy. My best to your family and friends. 👍👍🇦🇹🤝🇺🇸

      Thanks very much! Making a credible lower hull painting is quite difficult as there are very few photos of ships that were long underwater and then came to dry dock, so it means a lot to me that it actually looks similar to real ones! Thanks for always coming back to my videos! This is what makes it enjoyable, getting feedback and positivity back!

    Thoroughly enjoyed watching your video. Excellent model making. I watched the video on my mobile telephone, it appeared that way the Union Jack (and the Union Flag can only be described as such when flying from a Jack Staff), was upside down. Incidentally, ordinary seamen are called Jack as they were messed at the foc'sle end, under the Jack Staff. Similarly you placed the White Ensign on the mizzen mast rather than the Ensign Staff. There are a number of Pathe News films to confirm the White Ensign flying at the ship's stern. I have only seen black and white photographs and film of the Rodney, so it was very interesting to see the dazzle paint in colour. My father served on the "Rodbox" from 1943 to 1945. Atlantic, Malta and Russian convoys. Sicily and D-day landings. Like my mother, their generation, they gave up their youth to fight fascism. Thank-you for making a very interesting video. Charles.

    The Nelson class was always one of my favorites. It was an innovate approach by British engineers to stuff the most powerful guns into a ship confined to the 35,000 ton displacement restrictions of the London Naval treaty. By concentrating the main battery forward like that they shortened the citadel they would need to protect with armor and reducing weight. Absolutely brilliant British engineers.

    That looks spot on. Love the Nelson Class.. I made loads of Airfix models when I was a lad. My intentions were always to hang the planes from the ceiling, Tanks on my shelves and the Battleships had to float on my olds large pond. Only Bismark out of the 4 battleships I made, would float upright without modifications 2 I put in weights or ballast etc and one was a lost cause (Belfast) On seeing your masterpiece, my first thought was, would this float??

    A lot of people don't like the Nelson class they find it ugly.
    The Roddney was the second of two post dreadnought class BSs with the new and latest tech of the time.
    The citadel superstructure paved the way for that era of ships tho the superstructure sits aft of the deck is still very striking.
    I have Rodney& Burwell (the latter a convoy escort destroyer )in my name because of family who served on them .

      Hi Anthony! I agree with you, it is a great ship! It utilized so many new technologies while staying in the Washington Naval Treaty limits, with 406mm guns! It is not as beautiful as HMS Hood, but it is still an extremely interesting ship and has a nice shape. The bridge especially, a massive, high tower structure.

    Great job- I like how you do the flag decal on foil too, but the flag is only one sided that way,. Is it possible to use the same idea on a double flag and then bend the foil over on the flag pole?

    My ex (and sadly deceased) Grandfather in law served on Rodney from 1943 onwards. His main gripe was the skin cancer from Mediterranean patrols. No sunscreen and hours on deck as a redhead wasn't a good mix. Great build, though where do you keep something that big?

      Sorry to hear, i am glad he made it home! I am getting sunburnt after fifteen minutes in the sun, i dont want to imagine how that must itch and hurt! I have it in a shelf, where it is safe from dust, but i put it on a board in the living room from time to time - some of the bigger models are given away at occasions to make place for new ones, i only have a small flat :)

      I can't believe that I missed your reply two years ago, so my apologies.
      I've just watched the video again, and now that I'm living in a small flat, I can see the limits for model display surfaces.
      I've completed about 90% of my first model in 34 years. It's Tamiya's Dragon Wagon, and it's a long kit. I have no idea where it's going to live. It's currently on my hifi turntable.
      I'd love to build a ship but not in 1/200 scale. Probably 1/350 is the size limit.
      I'm torn between a Royal Navy ship and my favourite from World of Warships: USS Alaska.

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 роки тому

      That's the problem with Mr Cement S as well, i only use it when i can bring two plastic pieces in direct contact and hold them together, because when you put the glue onto a part, the have to grab the other and put in on the glue, the glue is dissolved most of the time by then. i have just finished rendering a video where i described the different glues i have and how i use them, should be live in some hours

    Which airbrush would you recommend for me, I am a beginner and haven't airbrushed yet.

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 роки тому +1

      I started off airbrushing with a cheap set from amazon where a compressor and an airbrush were included for around 50€ (around 56 USD), and i still have the same compressor, so it is a good piece and has great value! The cheap air brush is great for learning; it took me months of try and error until i had consistent results with the paint finishes. I clogged my airbrush countless times and was frustrated about it many times, but it is all learning and gaining experience.
      Now i use the Paasche Talon which is a great airbrush, but the supply of spare parts is a little limited in europe, as they are made in the US

      Hi Chris! I once built an Academy USS Oliver Hazard Perry Class in 1/350, which was not that fun to make. I am having my eyes (or radar) on a trumpeter kit of a Arleigh Burke Class, which aren't that expensive and cool kits! do you know of any good oliver hazard perry class kit?
      Thanks for your kind words, all the best and health to you and your family as well!
