I mean, I can understand this in the following case. Let’s assume, you have a Fujifilm camera. They are famous for their „film simulations“. Taking the X-T3, it came with a set of simulations. The X-T4 has added some and the X-T5 even more. Now assume that I am happy with the X-T3 but I really want Classic Negative. My only option now is buying a new camera. If I could instead pay USD 50 to get all the new simulations, I probably would be more willing to do that than to buy a new camera. Because one thing is for sure: Fujifilm will never bring that to the X-T3 for free. But his is an entirely optional update and if I don’t want or need the simulations, I still have a fully featured camera.
I hate subscriptions, but I am open to the idea of not having video features enabled and in return get at 25% discount on the camera, because personally I hardly ever use video. So if the R1 costs $7,000 and I could get it without video features for $5,250, that would be great for me. Personally all I need is a well built camera with a good sensor with low noise. I do not think having AI in camera will mean that you can remove objects from a photo. There is no reason to do that in camera. The AI will probably be used for auto focus and exposure. Hasselblad for example can already identify faces in a group. So for example you take photos of a football match of Inter Miami and you know that the photos of Lionel Messi sell best. Then the camera can identify him in a group of people and always focus on him. That comes very handy at a wedding, where the bride should always be in focus. AI is very good at that. An AI could also choose the depth of field automatically so that TWO people - for example the bride and the groom - are in focus. Or think about a wildlife photographer, who can tell the camera to automatically take a photo if a specific animal enters the frame.
I hear you on the video stuff but honestly can’t see that happening. Your AI points are fascinating too! I do wonder if we will see more of that. That being said the Hasselblad stuff is done in camera right? If so super cool, I need to look into that 🙂
Pay for updates may cause people to change brands.

I think unlocking newly developed feature is a an interesting point but I can also see it putting people off a brand too
