One point for bravery, and three for tactical stupidity. Once Aegon was down, she should have left for Dragonstone at once. It would have been a strategic success for Team Black. She could have come back to hunt Aemond down at a later stage, with the assistance of Daemon and Caraxes. After all, Vhagar is the Greens' only dragon left (Haelena has one too, but she's clearly not a fighter). Also, after joining the fray again, she was very careless to fly past the castle, not knowing what could hide behind it. Wonderful character, Rhaenys, but she was almost begging to be killed.
Think from the point of Rhaenys.... 1)first of all she don't want to fly back to dragon stone like a coward. 2)She may feel that revenge for Lucerys that she controlled. 3) She came came to help the lord of Rook's Rest.(Still green's army and Vhagar is there. 4)Even if she went back to dragon stone in that situation....Vhagar may follow them back to dragon stone... It is like pulling her other family members to the war immediately and it will be a total distruction of her house and her place......... If they fall, It will be a victory for Greens 6)She may think about her husband and love lord Corlys Valarion too......... He must be safe there... 7) All the council members of black council are there Dragon stone.. if they died... They may lose some of their allies
@@jithinraj1830 1) As I said, it was a brave, but poor choice. The only thing that matters in war is winning. 2) To get her revenge, she should have flown to King's Landing with Daemon as Daemon (correctly) suggested in the first episode. 3) She helped a lot. Ironically, by falling with her dragon on the castle walls, she ended up opening a breach that further helped the Greens win the siege. 4) Vhagar had no reason to follow. For all Aemond knew, in Dragonstone there could be other 4 dragon riders waiting for him. The whole point of his strategy was to take Rook's Rest to prevent the Blacks from landing on the continent, then leave for Harrenhal to gather more forces. Nothing more, nothing less. 5) Daemon and Caraxes were not there, so ... ? They could join forces later on.
@@davideiceman Their objective was to lure out a black dragon and kill it and not just take the castle! Vhagar would have burnt everything and utterly destroyed the castle anyways. The greens have an army but no ships so next they would go to harrenhall to cut off the other allies of blacks! If Rhenys backs down to Dragonstone, Vhagar the largest dragon could definately catch the dragon stone dragons and riders off-guard and it would be a time before they take flight! None of the other smaller dragons could stand a chance against Vhagar or do any damage to it, Even the riders were inexperienced. If syrax and Rhenyra went to battle, Aemond would do his best to target her. Vhagar is 2 times the size of any other dragon and can take on both syrax and Meleys effectively! Vhagar would utterly destroy dragonstone killing the blacks. If vhagar didn't follow Meleys to Dragonstone then it would be a good one, but Criston and Aemonds plan both in the books and the show was to lure out a Black dragon and take it down, so i doubt He (Aemond) will give Up Meleys so easily after the King fell and would not go empty handed. Rhenys didnt want to be a coward and tried to use her speed to damage Vhagar but she was ambushed
@@samanyupalthi My point is that Aemond would have never pursued Meleys to Dragonstone. If Aemond thought he could go straight to Dragonstone and kill the Blacks one by one, catching them by surprise, Cole and Aemond wouldn't have bothered to organize the ambush in the first place. Rhaenys could simply fly to Dragonstone and reach it safely - which was the smart thing to do. She didn't, and she was killed for it.
Thank you. I kept thinking if she just bailed after slamming Vhagar down into the ground and either A) came back with Rhenyra and Jace or B) just left, the blacks more or less win the engagement. They lose a small shore-side fort but the king, a good chunk of Cole's army and A FUCKING DRAGON are decimated. It tactically makes NO sense to continue fighting at all past Sunfyre's fall, but she really should have immediatelly bailed after the first skirmish with Vhagar. Especially since Daemon told her himself thathe needs her and it will take both Caraxes AND Meleys to kill Vhagar.
Nah , the next dragon battle will be in the finale of the next season , they mostly fought on land and sea . Blacks had the Tullys , Blackwoods , Arryns and the Greyjoy , Velaryon fleet . Imagine being this stupid. The whole point of the story is practically slapping you in the face and you still miss it. Also, by that argument, we could say that this whole war is due to Arrax (whose fire attack on Vhagar, which Lucerys hadn't ordered, provoked Vhagar).
Nah... Up until Danny resurrected her 3 dragons with Blood Magic in the Game of Thrones, all of the dragons were extinct. That should tell you everything you need to know about being "even."
We are going to ignore that Daeron and Tessarion go with the Hightower army, we are also going to ignore the Lannister army and Baratheon. Rhaenyra's army is scattered and Daemon has not yet built it. While Criston already has a larger army. Team Black are losing the war and it's not just because of vaghar. They are fools lacking military tactics. If they wanted to win they should hurry up to build the queen's army instead of wasting time.
It's not unbelievable at all, imo. Most large predators use ambush tactics, since they can't actively pursue nimbler prey. Lions, bears and sharks are huge, and it's frightening how well they can hide. It's really not crazy to suppose Vhagar, an ancient war dragon, would be a cunning hunter. Striking from above or below, hiding behind obstacles and minimizing noise while flying are all tactics you'd expect from a highly intelligent predator.
@@samg.5165 in this scene it was very unbelievable :D c'mon how did she even have time? Vhagar is supposed to be super, super heavy and thanks to that very slow and clumsy :D
@@HK-gm8pe I don't want to overanalyze the scene, but here I go. Meleys was leaving, then turned back to search for the other dragon through a huge cloud of smoke. At that point, Rhaenys was looking in every direction (including up at the clouds), meaning that she expected Vhagar might already be in the air. Vhagar didn't have to be the first to get up, nor did she need to be faster than Meleys. She only needed to glide low behind the cliffside until her prey flew into her trap (or simply left). I'll admit the timing was very (un)lucky, and Vhagar was in a near-perfect position to strike, but much weirder things have happened in this show.
I guess this means Rhaenys was fireproof given how she emerged sooty but unburnt after multiple blasts from Vhagar (unlike Sunfyre whose wing went up in flames).
Many people are praising Rhaenys here, while an experienced dragon rider as her should have known that leaving the battle after Vhagar burned her and Aegon was her best option. She could have survived this with the result of crippling an enemy dragon, maybe even see the green king fall to his death and fight on an other day. Aemond has to turn Vhagar to face her. He wasn´t even chasing her. Her dragon was wounded and not in the best shape to take on the oldest, biggest and physically strongest dragon on this battlefield. Yeah she has guts and all, and her and Meleys fight and death was very cool, but it was also incredibly stupid.
@@XxDeathxX509bro I don't know what you thinking, if Vhagar comes to Dragonstone, it's game over for Greens. Rhaenyra doesn't want to commit her sons for the battle against Vhagar, but if Vhagar comes anyway, they will also go fight. That means there will be too many dragons, Vhagar will have her hands full trying to deal with Meleys while syrax nips at its heels. Aemond is dead guaranteed and Vhagar probably brings down one or two dragons before it also goes down from the wounds Meleys and Syrax inflict on it. That means Daemon will have Caraxes free, and the Greens only have Dreamfyre and Tessarion. Dreamfyre is useless since Heleana hasn't recover mentally and Caraxes will eat Tessarion for Breakfast. Aegon will take too long to heal up, Daemon would have taken out the Green armies. By the end, Aegon is finished.
Rhaenys knew she was expendable; there was no way she was going into this battle without accepting all the risks; Melys was the most experienced in warfare of the dragons on the Blacks side, she said so herself. Her death is supposed to be the push thaat Rhaenyra utilizes; now that the war between dragons has begun, there is no turning back *Id also like to add its a different kind of thrilling, watching this, having already read the "Dance of the Dragons". Knowing the source material and watching it unfold feels like a surreal experience
Meleys was the most experienced together with Caraxes. She should have listened to Daemon and attack together. Vhagar would be dead and battle would be as good as won. But i respect her bravery.
99% of people didn't notice that vhagar broke Meleys leg when she grabbed her. I've been trying to point it out on other channels to make people aware of it. Vhagar tried to drag meleys down to the ground, knowing meleys would be unable to take flight again with her broken leg.
Excluding the book and going just off the episode, it is apparent that Meleys is exhaused and her flight is labored after the intial engagement with Sunfyre and Vhagar. With a broken leg and slowed flight, it seems the only option was to turn back and try to end it for good bc im not sure that Meleys could have out run Vhagar at that point. Likely what the moment between Dragon and rider alluded to. I understand the sentiment of Rhaenys beleving herself expendable etc, but I think it is more she understood, after her moment with Meleys, she wasnt making it out regardless.
They changed the fight from the source material. After Aegon and Sunfyre went down, she should have 100% went back. That would have given her a chance to team up with Deamon & Caraxes. In the books, once the fight started... there was no way for her to get away. All three dragons fell at once, only Vhagar got up unscathed. They changed it to where Aegon was taken out with no damage to Meleys... you 100% go back to Dragonstone after that.
It’s a shame for the lord in Rook’s Rest but Rhaenys already basically won the war by taking out Aegon. So I agree she should’ve left. I seriously think however that we’re supposed to interpret Rhaenys as very honourable and that she won’t abandon an ally no matter how irrelevant to the overall war they are. It’s also why she didn’t take out all the greens and start the war in season 1. She just doesn’t do underhanded things.
I was honestly really hoping that Meleys would give Vhagar more of a fight and not just get...grabbed immediately? Like, she's canonically one of the fastest dragons, she should have been flying circles around Vhagar. I knew the outcome had to be the same, but still...anyway RIP Queens
Rhaenys suprised me, because she was always soft-spoken. But she was a absolute warrior till the end, not even panicking or afraid when faced with surtain death.
Seems like Vhagar's experience was the difference here. She was 180 years old and had been in many many battles. So she knew that she needed to get airborne again quickly and take advantage of all the smoke and chaos from the crash. Interesting that they don't show Aemond giving her any commands in that sequence, as if she was on autopilot and knew what she had to do to defeat Meleys and Rhaenys (both of whom were relatively inexperienced when it came to actual battle in comparison to Vhagar).
Why is every youtube comment stating the most obvious stuff about the scene we all just literally watched? "Her dragon is so obedient" "Wow they both knew they were gonna fall in battle" like yeah bro I just watched the same thing you did thanks
FYI Before, Rhaenys, Meleys was Princess Alyssa's dragon while Vaghar was once mounted by Prince Baelon. Both were the parents of Viserys I and Daemon...
Soldiers being smashed underfoot of vhagar as she hastily ran to get back into the sky and hide. Apparently in the book vhagar took meleys' head clean off but instead she just crushed her neck
Rhaenys was almost at the end of her life. It was very selfish of her to commit a double suicide with a dragon in its best years. Meleys could have lived another 100 years. But no, lets both die...
They should have stuck to books where both sunfyre and Vhagar gets locked with Meleys in a tousle of fire and Meleys burns Sunfyre and wounds Vhagar before biting dust. That would be badass as the red dragon was fiery and fast
Rhaenyra's suspicion (attacking the Rooks Rest by Greens made no sense) was right. The Greens wanted to lure (any) dragons of team Black. They (Aemond/Cole) thought, that the only way to kill black´s dragon/dragons was to use Vhagar. Of course it is dumb and non-tactical thinking (for example: it would have been enough if Caraxes had also arrived). So, Rhaenyra should have sent only spies (and use them much more frequently too) to Rooks Rest and then attacked and ocuppy the low guarded Kings Landing. Until then, Kings Landing was guarded by Vhagar and other smaller dragons.
I cried my eyes out! Perhaps Rhaenys had a broken heart after meeting her husband’s illegitimate son and decided she didn’t want to go back and face it. She loved and adored Meleys. She wanted her to go out being a true badass! I will miss them both.
I did not like the ambush that killed Meleys. How should Vhagar hide just under the cliffs (flying) and wait for Meleys unseen, while she pinpoints the attack? That is not what I expected from a 'brute force' dragon. I know: The writters wanted it like that. No further explanation needed. But still, that felt a bit like bad writting although overall I still liked the episode and battle very much.
After thinking about it and inspecting their reactions. I am pretty sure Rhaenys really thought the fall had killed Vhagar... She smiled at Meleys after the first round like "yeah girl... I think we did it haha" and then went to see the aftermath but then realised Vhagar wasn't there so she panicked and looked everywhere, but it was already too late as she was already near the castle and Vhagar snatched her...
Part of the rider goes into the dragon, and part of the dragon goes into the rider. The last shadow of a memory of Laena Velaryon - who rode Vhagar before Aemond - just killed her mom Rhaenys. A generation before, Vhagar and Meleys were ridden by Viserys and Daemon's parents: the siblings Baelon and Alyssa. So many familicides in one moment. 😥
Bother anybody else that Vhaegar/Aemond let Rhaenys/Melys go and they just came back to try for the sake of trying? Aemond was looking over Sunfire and Aegon. Wouldn’t you go back to Dragonstone and say “one down, one to go”?
Очень жаль Рейнис и Милеис. Вхагар все же сильная и огромная,свирепая и опытная. С ней сложно бороться. Прав был Деймон,что вдвоем у Караксеса и Милеис был шанс справиться с Вхагар

I thought it was all over when in the first clash with vhagar but Rhaenys has shown her experience and brought Aemond down. and it was an ambush strike finished her.. dragon fight was fun to watch even if it was short
Aemond was shocked that rhaenys was dumb enough to come back for more ...anyway I have no sympathy for fools she should have waited for caraxes before attacking vhagar
She wasn’t dumb enough, she just wasn’t a coward. She knew she was expendable and she still injured Vhagar and honestly could have taken out Vhagar if she didn’t ambush her
@@kieuvu-kayser5624 it means i am being sarcastic. Just cz someone thinks they are expendable doeant mean u jump in a battle and die. Her death caused a vaccum in team black. They would be awed by this. Completely. In a way, it's similar to armies stopping to watch two champions fight. There are even examples of that happening in history.
She should've thought of that cliff/castle. She and Meleys were skimming the water before re-engaging vhagar so it was the perfect spot for Vhagar's enormous size to hide... I always say in thriller/etc shows, ppl never look up. In this case, it's down
Yoooo so rhaenys tightening her shit before she goes into battle and she falls to her death I bet we will see the exact opposite from daemon and that's how he kills aemond after vhagars rips into ceraxes
Of course he hide his dragon behind a giant castle to spring up from as a surprise attack and bite the other dragon thru the neck with his own dragon, so he took advantage of 2 weaknesses at the same time.
I love how they make dragons intelligent on here and even on game of thrones. if you looked closer when Meleys scratches Aegon dragon's chest and rips it open a sort of liquid comes outs witch I am pretty sure is the flammable substants that makes them breath fire and you can tell that meleys knows that because she does the same move again at vhagar but her skin was too thick for serious damage. which tells how smart and experience she is with combat especially with other dragons.
The sequel to GOT., Jon Nows' journey to the ancient frozen land and discovers many ancient strange creatures and secrets no one has ever known..Arya discovers many secrets ancient in the West..Secrets, magical powers, mystical creatures will appear. (This is a suggestion for story writers)
I wonder if the hope was to break Vhaegar's leg or wing, or Aemond himself, under the gigantic dragon's bulk in making her crash land. If Vhaegar had landed in any way that put a wing or leg angled wrong, that could have been a game changer, as the grounded bahemoth couldn't fight a flying dragon as quick as Meleys. Hitting the ground on her back would have spared her legs and wings, but Aemond would have been crushed, avenging Rhaenys's grandson [and in a way, her daughter/granddaughter, since Aemond did steal Vhaegar.]
Rhaenys have lost her beloved son presume dead n her beloved daughter ....her husband is far away from him since the death of their son ...she feel like it was the end for her ...and she was angry with Aemon for burning his own brother Aegon n killing her son in-law ....she wanted to kill Aamon ....

There is Syrax, Vermax and Moon dancer and they are no match for Vhagar..
5)Daemon and Caraxes are not there.... It is like pulling her other family members to the war immediately and it will be a total distruction of her house and her place......... If they fall, It will be a victory for Greens
6)She may think about her husband and love lord Corlys Valarion too.........
The ONLY reason the greens are in this war is vhagar.
The blacks are the true rulers and long by the Queen reign
Nah , the next dragon battle will be in the finale of the next season , they mostly fought on land and sea . Blacks had the Tullys , Blackwoods , Arryns and the Greyjoy , Velaryon fleet . Greens had the Lannisters , Baratheons , Brackens , Hightower and the Redwyne fleet plus the Triarchy . They were even
Imagine being this stupid.
Arrax fired first.
Oh was I screaming “don’t go over the castle! It’s an ambush!”
I find it unbelievable that a huge dragon like Vhagar could get the jump on her like that
So happy to see more people saying this. As if we use 747s for stealth bombing 😂😂😂
Attack, Meleys. And then she turns around, we all know she dies and the music kicks in. This was one of the greatest scenes ever.
She had no chance against Aemond and she knew it.
*Vhagar
The crazy part is that Aemond was circling his brother before she spun the block.
Vhagar still kicking ass despite her age, man is she awesome
There's always a dragon out there bigger then Vhagar.
@@chriswood1210 your mom doesn't count
@@chriswood1210and they're all dead though.
Not bad for over 180 years old lol
I guess this means Rhaenys was fireproof given how she emerged sooty but unburnt after multiple blasts from Vhagar (unlike Sunfyre whose wing went up in flames).
I was thinking about it frankly!
She didn’t know that. To leave vhagar like that is to give her the chance to follow her home. If she does that its game over for the blacks
Her death is supposed to be the push thaat Rhaenyra utilizes; now that the war between dragons has begun, there is no turning back
*Id also like to add its a different kind of thrilling, watching this, having already read the "Dance of the Dragons". Knowing the source material and watching it unfold feels like a surreal experience
Meleys was the most experienced together with Caraxes. She should have listened to Daemon and attack together. Vhagar would be dead and battle would be as good as won. But i respect her bravery.
She just became a martyr for Rhaenyra's cause
Vhager always catching his opponents unaware
This episode proves Rhaenys is the best dragon rider in the dance.
Meleys as she gazed to Rhaenys
- Till the end, with you .
Made me cry😭
Rest in Glory to the Queen Who Never Was and to Meleys the Red Queen 🖤🖤🖤
2:06 meleys's right leg injured.
99% of people didn't notice that vhagar broke Meleys leg when she grabbed her. I've been trying to point it out on other channels to make people aware of it. Vhagar tried to drag meleys down to the ground, knowing meleys would be unable to take flight again with her broken leg.
Good spot. I didn't notice that, but you can see its dangling and kind of floppy
Honestly wish we went back to dragon stone and didn’t attack vhagar. Was so sad to watch them both die
Can you think of another way to rally the troops. Just like Colsons death got the Avengers together
The result of thie fight wpuld be completely diffrent if daemon was just here with rhaenys instead fighting ghosts
"I am sorry mom" T.T
The courage they had to attack 3 times larger war crime on wings and survive the first attack taking vhagar to the ground!
She literally handled it I don’t think there were any options besides running. She has the fastest dragon and the most war born.
Who am I to speculate, but. If Rhaenys had burnt greens on their coronation day....
When two nuclear weapons are above head n everyone watching below. Like i would start running the moment i knew two were colliding.
She is idiot then 😂
Rhaenys was true blood of the blood of the dragon.
How does Vhagar keep sneaking up on mfs lol
I cannot wait til Aemond gets his once and for all.
What if he doesn't? what if they decide to do something different from fire and blood.
@kylemma33 nah they're going to follow the books bc they know how season 8 of GOT turned out. Stick to the script and give the fans what they want
That won’t be till season 4 probably the beginning of
Rip Rhaenys&Meleys❤️😢
Vhagar, the ambush queen
Bother anybody else that Vhaegar/Aemond let Rhaenys/Melys go and they just came back to try for the sake of trying? Aemond was looking over Sunfire and Aegon. Wouldn’t you go back to Dragonstone and say “one down, one to go”?
This was way better than the books
Don’t worry Meleys, Aemond and Vhagar will meet their time too 😢
If I was on Meleys, I would of circled quickly and hit Vahgar from above while he was trying to ge off the ground and up again, thoughts?
She should've just withdraw and get a back up.
she should call for reinforcement (Syrax). They stood better chance if it was 2v1
I know it would never happen but Vermithor would literally obliterate Vaghar. At least with a rookie like Aemond as a rider.
Vermithor is my favorite for sure
Vermithor was a let down in Fire and blood
You saw what the rookie did

She should've left after she knocked Aegon down. That was a win. Go get more help.
The fact that she rode normally while NOT strapped in shows you the kind of person she was (and probably her trust in Meleys).
The reason vhaegar is an ambush type dragon is because she used to be the littlest of the three balerion was an actual leviathan it's impressive she can still do that at her size rn shows skill, anyway rest in peace and hail the king Aegon, long may he reign

I thought it was all over when in the first clash with vhagar but Rhaenys has shown her experience and brought Aemond down. and it was an ambush strike finished her.. dragon fight was fun to watch even if it was short
Meleys screams hurt me more than Sunfyre screams tbh
Aemond was shocked that rhaenys was dumb enough to come back for more ...anyway I have no sympathy for fools she should have waited for caraxes before attacking vhagar

Thats called foolishness not bravery
I look forward to the battle of vhagar vs caraxes this is a rivalry between the two of them and they need to show the battle
1:40 Vhagar is such a behemoth! Oh my god!
Everyone on the ground forgot about the battle they had been fighing just minutes earlier and just watched the battle between dragons
I mean, can you blame them? These are as close to gods that they can see with their own eyes. Now, I'm not saying dragons are gods per se, but the soldiers are still human, after all.
In this case, it's down
I really don't understand the fight. She came back to take down but God it was half-assed!
When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die. She chose to die when she let the greens live at Aegon's coronation.
Yoooo so rhaenys tightening her shit before she goes into battle and she falls to her death I bet we will see the exact opposite from daemon and that's how he kills aemond after vhagars rips into ceraxes
1:31 meleys nearly defeated vhagar. Rhaenys was a skilled warrior. Perfect match for aemond and vhagar.
Of course he hide his dragon behind a giant castle to spring up from as a surprise attack and bite the other dragon thru the neck with his own dragon, so he took advantage of 2 weaknesses at the same time.
They like that move of ambushing from below
She didn't have to die 😢
I love how they make dragons intelligent on here and even on game of thrones. if you looked closer when Meleys scratches Aegon dragon's chest and rips it open a sort of liquid comes outs witch I am pretty sure is the flammable substants that makes them breath fire and you can tell that meleys knows that because she does the same move again at vhagar but her skin was too thick for serious damage. which tells how smart and experience she is with combat especially with other dragons.

dire qu'elle avait la possibilité de tous les bruler au sacre d'Aegon ....
Poor dragon and R 😭😭😭
Seems to me by that Look Meleys gave to Rhaenys after the first round that she thought she can beat Vhaegar, and look what happened then... That's what happens when you try your luck too many times
