The way Rhaegal was grinning and chittering the whole time made it seem like he was saying, "I'm gonna show you what it means to be a Targaryen, northern boy."
"You've completely ruined horses for me." Easily the most fitting line in the series. What a thrill riding one of those would be, to experience life as a dragon does.
This scene was the dumbest scene in the entire season. Jon had zero connection to Rhaegal, it felt forced, it felt rushed and it makes no sense. Why would Rhaegal simply let Jon fly him? Just because he's a Targaryen? Targaryens and Valyrians learned to tame their dragons and did so with blood magic, sacrifices and with pure, brute force, the dragons didn't just automatically bow to them. Even Daenerys struggled to tame her dragons and she raised them since they were babies, now you expect me to believe Jon does it without a second thought? Daenerys only learned to ride Drogon until she was forced to do so in a life or death situation. Jon riding Rhaegal did not help to further the plot in any meaningful way, Jon never even used this ability to do anything. Not only that but he looks ridiculous riding him, his cape alone should have been enough to pull him to his death.

@@distantraveller9876 As we don't really get to see any interaction between Jon and the dragons except Drogon that once, we don't know if there were extra scenes where they did and if Rhaegal liked Jon from then. Although, in the scene with Viserion's death, it's kind of hinted that perhaps there already was a bond between Jon and Rhaegal (don't forget that in the books Jon is a warg so does have the possibility of touching the dragon's mind) as it wasn't until Rhaegal's cry over Viserion that Jon even looked up. Someone pointed it out in another video years ago. It could also be that Drogon told Rhaegal about Jon petting him and both could smell that Jon and Daenerys were "mates" so accepted him.
God if there is one thing the show did right in the final season, its the sound effects of the dragon's wings when they fly. the thunderclaps of all that air being forced down to keep them aloft, being higher pitched for Rhaegal since he's smaller, being louder for Drogon since he's bigger. its just fantastic
The dragons in this series were just fantastic. Especially in s7 and s8 when they started doing serious damage. The plot was shoddy but I come back just to watch the dragons, especially Drogon.
The downplaying of Jon Snow bonding with Rhaegal was criminal. There should’ve been more of an emphasis on this phenomenon because dragons don’t let just anyone ride them.
@@hokagedlo6133 Not really true actually. Rhaegal approached nicely to Jon. I believe he sensed Jon's Targarian blood and accepted Jon's caring nature.
The bind between dragon and rider is sacred. Jon riding Rhaegal should be a bigger deal that they made it out to be. Jon should’ve felt when he died but they just brushed it off. What a slap in the face to the source material.

it is the perfect ending but tbh i'm not mad anymore. the whole point of this show and hotd is to show targaryens and dragons could never be stable enough to rule long term, and were just brought back together one more time to eliminate the real threat in the north. now humanity can rebuild and rule and do whatever, just without the incestral chaos. i just hope we get to keep the cool dragons lol

@UCe3i1WZy8zeWAQYra54t4mA Rhaegar was an idiot. A decent prince, but then turned out to be an ass. He abandoned and delegitamized his wife and kids, he sent a handful of good troops to protect Lyanna instead of bringing Arthur with him to fight Robert, he eloped with Lyanna and brought dishonor to his own family, the Starts, the Baratheons, and Martells, and he did it in the worse way possible. When people have all this lovey dovey image of Rhaegar and Lyanna, it makes me wonder how much of that story they actually know. He could've done it in a far less messy way, that wouldn't have caused such a terrible war that cost the lives of tons of people. His plan went down in the worst way possible, Jon being the only part that actually made it out alive. Selmy knew Rhaegar as he was before he went off and seemingly stole her off. The Kingdoms were all under the impression that Rhaegar stole Lyanna off and raped her. So no, he wasn't good for a lot of other people as a prince, actually.

It's really odd that Daenerys is just like "Yeah, okay" to Jon being able to ride her dragon when Targaryens (or rather Valyrians) seem to be the only people who can easily bond with and ride dragons (without like taming them with food first or something as Nettles did). If anything this should've been the first moment where she became suspicious of Jon's true heritage.
Even Nettles had some Targ blood because Rhaenyra ordered dragon-seeds (bastards of Targs) to try taming dragons so they were no ordinary people either. Dany not being suspicious is odd, I fully agree

After reading Fire & Blood it's quite impressive that Dany and Jon can ride their dragons without saddles. Not even Rhaenyra or Daemon rode without a saddle.
That is because the show is not really canon. In the books, Dany rides drogon only one time when he is barely large as a horse. Its in the fighting pits and Dany are hanging on him for her dear life and that’s all about her riding the dragon, no more. I’m sure the books will find a way to built her a saddle
@@theonewhoismany8072that’s what is suppose to happen but no D&D screwed that up the moment rhaegal accepted Jon is the moment they bonded and should’ve stayed together.
The killing of Rhaegal was the most infuriating thing that I felt the most in the entire series and the one that finally made me lose respect and interest to the show in general. After that scene could barely get myself to watch the succeeding episodes. Add the salt that Jon did not even bat a care when his dragon died was totally disrespectful to who Rhaegal was supposed to represent to him and his origins.
I liked this scene as it one: gave a reason Jon would be riding a dragon into battle against the dead and two: it gave new opportunities during the battle. Also, when Rhaegal flew by Winterfell, did anyone else notice that Varys and Tyrion were shocked that Jon was riding the dragon, but Davos didn't look surprised at all?
At this point he's watched a woman give birth to a shadow and a guy come back to life after being stabbed in the chest six times. A guy riding a dragon is nothing 😆
It’s interesting watching HOTD and then coming back to this scene. HOTD shows Targaryens can claim a dragon but this scene really seems like Rhaegal claims Jon
Dragons choose their riders. Targaryens (or Valyrians more broadly) can attempt to claim a dragon, but the dragon won't necessarily accept them, and it can often depend on whether the personalities of the rider and dragon are compatible.

The fact that A. Jon clearly bonded with Rhaegal and they didn’t explore their connection is beyond insane. Furthermore, the fact that Dany didn’t IMMEDIATELY realize Jon was a Targaryen the second Rhaegal didn’t throw him off and try to eat him, is possibly one of the most dumb moments I’ve ever seen.
So 1. Unfortunately they didn't give themselves enough time to explore his Connection and bonding to Rhaegal. the showrunners fault really. 2. Dany really shouldn't just automatically assume Jon is a Targaryen based on him bonding with Rhaegal. Because there are at least two other Valyrian family's in Westros who can ride dragons and Dang didn't have any major education growing up specially on Westros meaning she has no idea if the Starks ever at one point in history intermarried with Targaryens like the Baratheons, Hightowers, or Velaryons did. I believe the Tully's even married some Targaryens. @UCe3i1WZy8zeWAQYra54t4mA
Rhaegar was an idiot.

Every person that has watched the show knows this
I haven't watched this heaping pile of garbage season since it aired, so I might not be remembering correctly, but didn't Bran and/or Samwell Tarly tell Jon at the end of season 7?
isn't it a bit of a coincidence that Jon rode the one namde reghal
Was likely intentional.
And dany was riding khal drogon....😂
@@onlygems9464 woah
That's probably how it will be in the books, with Tyrion riding Viserion.
@@onlygems9464 “Again”, if you know what I mean 😏
After seeing the house of the dragons, and then coming back here again. I now thought that these guys are freaking legends for a dragon riders.
Every dragon riders i saw in HOD had a saddles strapped in their dragon's backs and these guys simply rode those dragons like "well fck it, we die like a man if we fall, we fall"
I love how quickly Rhaegal bonded with Jon
Only Targaryens can ride dragons so two things:
1) Tyrion should have figured out that Jon was a Targ immediately.
2) Dany straight up tried to kill her bf XD
since Jon Snow male Targaryen heir and to the house of Targaryen I believe that Jon Snow has dragon blood or cells in his body whoever was that close to Dragon would:
1. Burn 🔥 to death.
2. Ripped in half.
3. Crushed by Dragons foot.
Dragon actually allowed to let him touch him while mommy Dragon Queen was still on him
Tyrion must had Dragon cells in his blood too when freed those two other dragons that were chained up.
Also since humans, dogs, animals, reptiles, and any other species in this world that might have their own kinda language with each other I believe that Dragon told the other the one's in it's type of Dragon language that this Jon Snow is just like mommy
@@justinl.shults7217 That’s true, but not my point XD My point is that to everyone Jon is Ned’s bastard, so everyone should have figured that was not the case when he rode Rhaegal
@@andreserra4094 Except, Ned Stark is so respected for being honorable and truthful and so little is known about dragon behavior by this generation that no one would question that Ned Stark lied about Jon being his bastard.
@@nikunjdixit1175 Tyrion is literally the biggest dragon nerd in Westeros, he would know this stuff.
@@nikunjdixit1175
I TOTALLY AGREE YOU..
BUT YOU GOT UNDERSTAND WHEN JON SNOW WAS BORN NED STARK'S SISTER TOLD NED THAT JON SNOW'S TRUE NAME AEGON TARGARYEN BUT NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE TO PROTECT HIM AND HE MADE THAT,
THAT'S WHEN NED STARK HAD TO CHANGE HIS NAME TO JON SNOW TO HIDE HIS REAL NAME AEGON TARGARYEN.
AT THAT TIME NED STARK'S FRIEND ROBERT (THE KING) WAS ALSO IN LOVE WITH NED STARK'S SISTER FROM A LIE HE HEARD ABOUT WAS THAT RHAEGAL TARGARYEN RAPPED AND KILLED HER,
SO FROM THEN ON IF ANY TARGARYEN'S WAS CAPTURED THEY'RE SENTENCED TO DEATH SO IF HE FOUND OUT THAT JON SNOW WAS ACTUALLY A TARGARYEN HE WOULD'VE KILLED JON SNOW THAT'S WHY NED STARK TOLD ROBERT THAT JON SNOW WAS HIS BASTARD SON.
WHEN BRAN BECAME THE
3 EYED RAVEN AND STARTED TO SEE HIS MORE VISIONS CLEARLY HE SAW THAT HIS FATHER'S SISTER LOVED RHAEGAL TARGARYEN AND THEY GOT MARRIED IN SECRET ➕ RHAEGAL NEVER KILLED HER SHE DIED ON HER BIRTH BED AND FOUND OUT ABOUT JON'S REAL NAME.
MOST OF ALL JON'S BEST FRIEND SAM FOUND A DIARY THAT TOLD THE ENTIRE TRUTH ABOUT JON SNOW AND FOUND OUT THAT HE'S NOT BASTARD SON MOST IMPORTANTLY HE FOUND OUT THAT RHAEGAL TARGARYEN WAS HIS FATHER NOT NED STARK.
SO YOU SEE NED STARK WAS VERY LOYAL AND TRUTHFUL TO HIS WORDS BUT HE PROMISED AND PROMISED HIS SISTER TO PROTECT JON SNOW AND NAME HIM AS A BASTARD SON IF NED STARK TOLD JON SNOW THAT HIS REAL NAME IS AEGON TARGARYEN,
HOW DO YOU THINK BRAN, SENSA, AND ARYA WOULD'VE REACTED WHEN THEY FOUND OUT THAT JON IS A TARGARYEN AND WHEN HE CAME HOME TO THE NORTH WITH THE DRAGON QUEEN DENI TARGARYEN??.
IT WOULDN'T LOOK RIGHT AND PEOPLE THROUGH THIS WHOLE SERIES WOULD'VE WANTED TO KILL HIM SINCE HE'S A TARGARYEN AND DENI WOULDN'T WANT FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM SINCE THAT JON SNOW IS DENI'S BROTHER CHILD,
LIKE I SAID IT WOULDN'T LOOK RIGHT:
THEY ALL KNOW HIS TRUE NAME AEGON TARGARYEN NOW INTRODUCTION LADY SENSA THIS IS DENI TARGARYEN QUEEN OF THE DRAGONS SO IT LIKE I'M AEGON TARGARYEN AND YOUR QUEEN IS DENI TARGARYEN.
I've noticed when the dragons know when to take off is when the rider leans forward more to their body. We see this a lot with Daenerys and Drogon and I always see Daenerys lean forward when she is ready to take flight with Drogon. So as soon as Jon leans forward that was Rhaegals que to take off. Subtle movements I noticed that dragons pick up on with their riders. Even in House of the Dragon
Snow: Hey babe, you wanna hang out later?
Daney: sure, let's cruise around a little...
Snow: ????
Cruzin'? Heck yeah. But I ain't no low rider.
Rhaegal’s happy face! Aww
One of the -very- few good things about season 8 was Rhaegal getting the screen time and attention he deserved. 💚
I think this is the most beautiful scene in GOT. I love how the dragons are communicating constantly throughout. The music is excellent. The Jon and Rhaegal relationship should have been explored much more in the show. Huge missed opportunity.
"What if he doesn't want me to?" Jon Snow, ladies and gentlemen killing it again 🤣🤣
Let’s be honest. We all thought Jon’s first ride was gonna be epic
It wasn’t?
@@craigarkensaw obviously not...she’s just like get on and he’s like “ok”
This is the most natural order of things
I LOVE the music for this, beautiful strings. 🧡💛💚 and the cute chirping sounds Rhegal makes.
“What if he doesn’t want me to?” Best line ever! 🤣🤣🤣
That cold winter breeze has gotta hurt a lot going that fast lmao
This part is cool. I kind of wish there were more dragon scenes like this with Jon and Daenarys.
Seeing dany smiling like that surely made me want more scenes of them flying together. Dany looked very happy to finally have someone to experience flying like this. 😢
The CGI in this honestly is the best I've ever seen you cannot tell me those dragons aren't real!!!!
"You complletly ruined horses for me",what a line from Northman to start a girl😂😂😂👍👍👍✌✌✌
Can we agree that Rhaegal is such a sweetheart
Omg i want a dragon
Master Kraznis wants to chat with you.
I always believe they were reincarnation of who they were named after
Well
Viseryon was clearly better than viserys tho
@@principebiscoito or Viserion is like the young version of Viserys, when he wasn’t a bad person and before he went mad.
Viserys started to show signs of madness after he had no choice but to sell his mother’s crown to survive the streets.
He was actually good with his sister Daenerys before those things happened to him in Essos.
Rhaelgal Rest In Peace, you deserved better :(
Will never stop hating that Jon became a Dragonrider, and no one understood or challenged the ramifications of that
Lol Jon would have enjoyed it more if Rhaegal wasn't so over-excited
I love the color of Green
I can spend all day watching those dragons.
I know its fantasy dragons but i cant stop thinking how fucking cold it must be to ride them. The windchill on their faces 🥶
Never mind me, I sometimes stop by and weep for what could have been.
Jon riding the dragon named after his father. Only thing done right in S8
I imagine what he's saying but Eret from httyd 2 riding stormfly
Eret son of Eret!
So on March 21, 2019 I saw the third movie in the theater for my third time and bawled my eyes out. I had NEVER seen Game of Thrones and my brother was watching the first episode of season 8 a couple weeks later... and this is the very first Game of Thrones scene I saw!!!! I thought it was both ironic and sweet because I was still upset about my favorite franchise ending. I LOVE the scenes with Eret and Stormfly!!!! "Stormfly, drop it. Stormfly, fetch!" 😀❤️🐉
We all deserve an Eret spin-off 😭😭 he was THE best side character 🤧🤧.
I really think this was Dany giving Jon a crash course in dragon riding. She knew he would have to ride Rhaegal and he needed to know what he was getting himself in to. The way she races Drogon faster and faster, the sheer drops, and soaring just above the ground. She makes sure he can hold on.
Rhaegal looked so happy while making those sounds....
Imagine building up this much story of Jon being a targaryen even with the dragon he's meant to be bonded to, to be named after his father. All of this set up, to then have the dragon die in 1 second by a 5 mile impossible snipe from a balista on a swaying ship by Euron, before we could see any bonding between Jon and the dragon. Lovely writing
