Jonathan getting nervous talking about the cinematic and immediately drawing comparisons to blizzard is adorable. The cinematic was great and your game is far better than theirs has been for years. Your team is crushing it.
Blizzard fired a bunch of their cinematic team anyway, check out the latest hero trailer for the new hero in Overwatch 2 (Hazard), and compare it to old trailers from Overwatch 1. They fell off as hard as possible.
@@steel5897 Well, these cinematics are usually about throwing a ton of money at them. GGG don't have as much to throw for cinematics. Witcher 3 has some insane cinematics, most if not all, are out sourced by studios that focus on doing cinematics like that.
What strikes me is that he acknowledges that the polish is not top tier, which is true and shows humility and a capacity to evaluate his work objectively, but also that the goal was to set a mood and in that regard the cinematic knocks it off the park. Nothing gives me more confidence in a product than when their creators both hit their main target and see clearly how they can improve.
We need to protect devs like Jonathan from GGG and Sven from Larian Studios. It's such a refreshing and encouraging sight to see someone talk about their game like it's a game and not a product. They're happy to talk about it, they enjoy playing it and so does the people involved. Seeing these interviews and comparing them to many others in the industry is like night and day. This is why we're seeing record numbers and massive sales to get into Early Access, because people want to support them. I can't wait to play PoE 2 myself.
The worst part is, post-number squish, the numbers at max level aren't any lower, and (due to bugs or whatever) actually HIGHER than they were before. There was a couple builds that would hit for billions in D4 pre-squish, but we've seen trillions and then 'number display is broken, infinite damage!' AFTER it. It feels like somewhere the math being used is just completely wrong between the devs' spreadsheet and the actual game implementation.
This was so Awesome to watch, His and Both your excitement and enthusiasm is what a real game pre-release is what it’s all about, reminded me of old school “Midnight Release” gatherings. You would think that after all these hour long interviews that they would finally draw a line and say, sorry no more; or maybe you would expect that sooner or later they should run out of things to talk about their precious sequel but none of these are the case here -- they keep delivering edge of the seat interesting insights into the game, design process, etc. that you just can't help but listen, fully absorbed. My dream for the crafting bench is to streamline currency crafts, while also being an informational goldmine. So my proposition is to unlock the crafting bench at some point, which allows you to craft on an item using a UI with all your relevant currencies, which pulls directly from your stash. It should be very clean and intuitive to use, with contextual information as you need it. For example, if you put in a Normal armor item, it only shows the currencies that you can use on it for this particular step. So if it was normal, you'd have pretty much everything, but if you put in a magic item it would obviously take away something like a Transmute Orb and the lesser Essence option. Rare items would limit even further. This way, the only options of which you're presented are the relevant ones, making crafting items much more intuitive. Furthermore, information would be presented succinctly to allow for fast learning, but allow for further insight if desired. Mousing over an Exalted Orb, while a 4-mod rare is on the bench, should let you know generally what the Exalted Orb does, but then have some "more info" icon, which opens up an interface which breaks down possible mods, tiers, etc....basically, all of the "What If?" results. Even things like Omens could have their own variants to the buttons when present, also explaining the result but with a quick & easy way to apply. I've thought about this a lot and I can't foresee any type of crafting [that is in PoE2] that doesn't work with this format/layout. There would always be an intuitive, clean, seamless solution to applying the relevant currency and having contextual information in 1-2 clicks. I think this could have a similar profound effect on the game as the Currency Exchange. Crafting could be SO streamlined and SO MANY more people would craft. If any GGG employees somehow find themselves reading this comment, I hope it gets to the right eyes.
Would really love to see this get implemented, not just in PoE2 but PoE1 as well eventually. It's such a bummer to hear that a crafting tool like this was in development at some point but is now scrapped. Looks like reliance on third party tools will continue to be a problem for the sequel.

GGG dev interviews have become an instant click for me. I love the enthusiasm they have for the game. At this point It's hard to contain my excitement for PoE2!
I just noticed I had 17 accumulated paid days off so I took a full month off work from PoE2 beta release day onward xD Gonna get paid to no-life PoE2 for a month, awesome
I would recommend when you start recording/start the interview to jot down notes and timers when you ask questions so you can easily put timestamps in the video. Long Q&As like this is not something all of us have time to listen to and having those timestamps embedded in the video early really helps.
__Crafting bench idea__ "a helpful crafting interface for stat overview/teaching players"; as you put in an item, you get an overview over every relevant crafting material you can use, and maybe even suggestions of order of operation (highlight common first craft option). Solved ;) Addition: can click a material and see some common mods it can give the item.
I feel like Jonathan can see into the multiverse at all times. Rapping his way through questions, and you can hear how much information he is processing at any given time.
You cant imagine the joy after I found out it has 2 player couch co-op. THANK YOU. Since we have only 1 console, it would suck for my brother and me, because we both love path of exile. And having the option to play together on one TV as the old times is AMAZING. Thank you GGG!
I absolutely love how excited Jonathan gets talking about this game. You can really tell how much passion is being put into this. Cannot wait to play this for the next decade plus!!!
Infinite Atlas that looks and feels like Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and having to run maps deathless in softcore are my FAVORITE things Ive seen so far. Sounds so incredible. PoE was always my favorite ARPG but being allowed to just hit your head against the wall for 6 attempts in each map always felt silly.
Jonathan Rogers is fast becoming one of my favourite Devs despite me not playing many ARPGs - Love the passion, you can tell this company loves their product
So when he talks about AG, i totally invison a permanent minion the templar summons that you equip gear onto. Something themed like the rf minion guardian gets, but as a reimagined AG.
Yup I thought the exact same. The RF minion is basically the new Hellhound summon from the Witch's Infernalist ascendancy. Templar needs something new. Some sort of holy golem makes sense.
Just listening to Jonathans energy for those 2 hours is amazing. He's both passionate and intelligent about the game and answers every question as honestly as he can. Great interview. GGG is for the player. Refreshing difference from the corporate BS from others. Jonathan's passion for the game is obvious and his enthusiasm is contagious. I usually have a hard time watching long youtube vids but the reveal and this interview were very easy to put in the time. To think any group of talented individuals could create a game of this magnitude and make it free is mind blowing. I will definitely support their efforts in the cash shop as much as possible like in POE. Jonathan's surprise at the reveal reaction says it all. Humble, a great guy.
Seeing this interview gives me so much more pride to be a New Zealander, jonathan is such a kiwi icon and just shows how much he loves what he does, massive respect
This game looks amazing! I already converted one of my friends that plays diablo 4. I got him set up with my extra key and helped him create a account and redeem it.
Just having Jonathan both so giddy but also confirm Druid will be one of the first two classes added into early access just makes supporting GGG so damn rewarding, can’t wait!
I am from 1960, played first on Atari, then Nintendo and bought my first PC just for gaming in 1986 (because I was hooked by Zelda on Nintendo and wanted more of that kind of stuff...). Changes in society also influenced the mentality in the gaming world. Developers are driven by business models and have only superficial connections with gamers, often because it is seen more as a service for the masses. Fortunately, there are exceptions, as GGG shows. That is why they deserve the reward, the positive attention, in my opinion. I can and will show my gratitude to them as a 24/7 gamer by buying the largest supporter pack.
Great interview, I always enjoy listening to Jonathan and Mark talk about PoE. You can tell they have a vision and a lot of passion for what they are making. And on top of it all they are making a game that they want to play, which reminds me of the mantra devs used to have back when I started gaming like 20 years ago. Hes also incredibly happy and energetic to talk to you guys which is fun! 😄
I could listen to Jonathan talk about PoE all day. It's just so nice to know the lead devs are so involved and passionate about the game. The fact he's not afraid to say "I don't know the answer to that question" shows a level of integrity and honesty that most game devs don't have these days. The next 11 days cannot possibly go fast enough.
for race events or other player-made or event leagues it would be really cool if there were a setting to have an option to set the atlas seed for every player to be the same. could have some cool catch-up mechanics for racing
I don't know what it is but the 2 of you combined are great in how you manage these podcasts. Synergy is insane❤. Great info we had and the hype is real!
I cannot wait!!!! I am so excited to invest, support and have fun with this game!! Content and the leadership is so grounded and quite literally on the ground w the rest of us which convinces me the player is put at the center of this game (rather than business)
Look at how happy and excited Jonathan is about talking about poe i wish more game devs had the same enthusiasm about there games. cant wait for poe 2!
Having information for what can spawn on piece of gear is EXTREMLY important so hope it will be added back in some form. I dont want to spend half my time looking at 3rd party sites anymore if something like that can be in game. D4 had similar issue but scope was way smaller. It could be added as an additional tooltip when you hit a certian key where you get all the extra information about an item.
Hearing this dev talk about being excited for a level 1 dps competition, and hearing how the community complains some nolifer will just minmax and win it. With him then responding with "yeah, that's how I though it would happen", is just pure gold. Not every aspect of every game is for everybody.
I think this is massively lost on the current gaming community. Everyone feels entitled to be able to do all content or farm as efficiently as some psycho. Regardless of knowledge, skill, time or experience. If someone spends 100hrs theory crafting and practicing for a lvl 1 dps race then they should win.
I think the cinematic like looked at blizz trying to be dark and gritty and raised them by 10x felt super dark and got me more hype for the story than I thought I would have been even as a long time Poe player
I know (based on how GGG handled POE 1) this game is going to be amazing. Especially as content is added. They have a full end game experience already structured which is leaps and bounds ahead of predecessor at this point. Amazing!
Great interview guys! A bit worried about Jonathan's health tho, he sounds like his blood pressure is about to explode from all the stress.. Hope he remains healthy during this entire process

That static boss thing was probably asked because of Quin who's suppose to be a veteran of PoE yet doesn't seem to know in PoE breachstones already couldn't be modified with map modifiers.
@@alicerain8686 Sorry but no matter how massive the game is, you're talking about only a dozen bosses that people actually fight in PoE 1's endgame as map bosses are practically meaningless, forgettable and not even worth counting as bosses. But he knows what he's talking about, that is for sure.
@@Sciss0rman I cant even do that as good as him, so I admire that.

I love Jonathan. When you have someone in charge like that, who is genuinely passionate about not only his product, but the people who use your product, you end up with pure quality.
Jonathan’s a big kid when he talks about his game it’s awesome no holding back on his passion and the work his team have done. Legend
Good questions fellas
oh man that cinematic.. that was the cherry on top.. it absolutely is a direct contribution to the hype.. would love to see more of that please Johnathan.
Nearly lost it when Jonathan said he wrote it, lmao. Absolutely crazy.
i hope that on release we get a cinemtatic per act, it would go so hard

Thanks Ghazzy and Darth, it was a awesome interview!
Unbridled enthusiasm gushes out of Jonathan with every word. I love it. Path of Exile 1 & 2 are games I will play for life.
I never got into PoE because by the time I got around to it, it was already too big for me to grasp. I'm excited to get in on the ground floor with PoE2
Same for me. I did play a bit PoE 1 ( around 100 hours, but we know that are rookie numbers for that game ), but yea it was just to much for me. So i am going with PoE 2 all the way
yup, this is very true
Ditto - seems a long time till early access releases ;)
@@DematorLP Set your expectations properly. Many of us did not start investing tons of time early and would "quit" for decent chunks of time. There were points when I knew I made a big mistake early league, but didn't know how to fix it, and I'd just quit. Sometimes the first day of a league. Yet here I am a decade later with several level 100's and able to afford most reasonably priced builds. Quitting is okay, its normal. Just remember to continue trying to come back.
Ground floor? More like Burj Khalifa's top floor, you'll just get out of the elevator with everyone else, at the same time.
I live in Australia and am a software developer, I had a look at their careers page but their requirements are specific and extreme. They demand excellence with humility, which marks them above the rest.
when johnathan speaks, i have to doublecheck my youtube video to make sure it's not on 1.5x speed.
Haha omg I changed mine to 1.5 speed just to hear what it sounds like. Literally sounds like the disclaimers at the end of a pharmaceutical commercial😂😂😂😂
Dang, I am listening at 1.75 and he sounds great.
With people attention span these days his speaking speed is perfect 😂
After the stream on Thursday I went back to the Q&A to try to clip an answer for someone, while listening on 2x speed.
It was like listening to a bunch of angry bees.
I normally listen to stuff sped up and thought the setting must have carried over but nope
Sven has a plate armor, he's protected.
34:49-35:08, I've never repeated this part so many times in my life, the reaction and answer is perfection!.
The developers/team that actually care and know about their game and community, is refreshing. Excellent questions and great job Guys! I’m very excited for POE ll to release😎🤘 o7
This is what it looks like when the Devs care. Great interview.
Jonathan was already at 10/10 for a cool dude, and the Riddick reference raised him to 11.
Glad someone else appreciated the riddick reference lol
Ghazzy, this podcast was probably the most structured one you have done & contains critical information. Hats off to you for the great work.
Some time stamps would be really appreciated and thank you for sharing this interview.
God, I love this company
If you can't get enough of these I recommend checking out the dev talks from both exilecons. They're all so enthusiastic. I Iove seeing their passion.

having something to find on dead ends are such a nice change for me personallly. I know I'm not the only one going to every corner and finding the next area at the LAST turn.
I think this will encourage players to explore each map more even when you have found the next area.
Incredible to see Jonathan so invested in every response and the passion and lenght going to explain things with no BS, that makes me want to play the game even more!

Great podcast guys!
Great interview. Again Jonathan (and GGG by extension) are showing how community interactions should be happening. Very honest and candid.
Doing a two-hour-long interview three days after a four-hour-long reveal; swear to god Jonathan is a breach demon trying to become real or something.
And the fact that he's super excited about it; where does he get the energy?
Yeah, I just got done watching the LA preview event where he went off for an hour and a half - super enthusiastic the entire time. He's special for sure.

I would recommend when you start recording/start the interview to jot down notes and timers when you ask questions so you can easily put timestamps in the video.
Long Q&As like this is not something all of us have time to listen to and having those timestamps embedded in the video early really helps.
__Crafting bench idea__
"a helpful crafting interface for stat overview/teaching players"; as you put in an item, you get an overview over every relevant crafting material you can use, and maybe even suggestions of order of operation (highlight common first craft option). Solved ;) Addition: can click a material and see some common mods it can give the item.
I feel like Jonathan can see into the multiverse at all times. Rapping his way through questions, and you can hear how much information he is processing at any given time.
Ive never seen a game director this excited to explain his game, its like he is a player hyping for his own game! Gonna go hard on Dec 6th, LETS GO!!
No price tag is a steal. Take my money!! 😂
Jonathan Rogers is fast becoming one of my favourite Devs despite me not playing many ARPGs - Love the passion, you can tell this company loves their product
Crazy for Jonathan to give you guys that much time. What an amazing dude!
Man it's so cool to see how Passionate Jonathan is. Look forward to playing PoE knowing they get this excited about the game they've made.
Just listening to Jonathans energy for those 2 hours is amazing. He's both passionate and intelligent about the game and answers every question as honestly as he can. This is why POE is such an awesome game to begin with because everyone at GGG shares this passion and now POE2 is looking to set the bar even higher!
Also great job to you two for the interview !
When I hear GGG talk about power creep and things getting crazy, all I can think is how much I want to see Jousis crash some servers.
I want to see the king return so baddddd
Seeing Johnny be so happy about the reactions they got from their stream is wholesome
I hope I have this much passion about something when I'm older
Jonathan really knows his stuff and more importantly knows who knows which information.
I didn't realize I needed a "Necronomicon" wiki in the game till now
This game looks amazing!
I can and will show my gratitude to them as a 24/7 gamer by buying the largest supporter pack.
very based, see you in waerclast chef 💪
Glad the monkey running away was addressed 😂.

You guys rock, happy to bear witness
I could listen to Jonathan talk about PoE all day. It's just so nice to know the lead devs are so involved and passionate about the game. The fact he's not afraid to say "I don't know the answer to that question" shows a level of integrity and honesty that most game devs don't have these days. The next 11 days cannot possibly go fast enough.

Such a great company in entirety.
for race events or other player-made or event leagues it would be really cool if there were a setting to have an option to set the atlas seed for every player to be the same.

I don't know what it is but the 2 of you combined are great in how you manage these podcasts. Synergy is insane❤. Great info we had and the hype is real!
Do you see this gentleman talking about his game? This is what a man filled with passion for his game looks like.
Loved the cinematic hope they continue and make more. Was amazing watch it about five times a day .
When devs are this passionate about their game you can just sit and hear they talk about it for hours.❤

I think the cinematic like looked at blizz trying to be dark and gritty and raised them by 10x felt super dark and got me more hype for the story than I thought I would have been even as a long time Poe player
I can't comment how hype I am. Just imagine a dude laying in bed at 2:30 AM both fists in the air quiet-screaming YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

DARTH, PET THE DAMN CAT!
I know (based on how GGG handled POE 1) this game is going to be amazing. Especially as content is added. They have a full end game experience already structured which is leaps and bounds ahead of predecessor at this point. Amazing!
Ghazzy suggestion regarding crafting is 10000% correct. It would be perfect. It would solve one of the major issues i had with poe1
Great interview guys! A bit worried about Jonathan's health tho, he sounds like his blood pressure is about to explode from all the stress.. Hope he remains healthy during this entire process
Would be cool to get a monster book.
In risk of rain games you get a log of monsters after you have killed a certain amount of the type, showing stats and flavour text, and at further kill thresholds you get more info and lore.
That static boss thing was probably asked because of Quin who's suppose to be a veteran of PoE yet doesn't seem to know in PoE breachstones already couldn't be modified with map modifiers.
PoE is a massive game. Even veterans dont know everything. I know it's funny for people to shit on quin but idk be a bit more realistic.
@@alicerain8686 Sorry but no matter how massive the game is, you're talking about only a dozen bosses that people actually fight in PoE 1's endgame as map bosses are practically meaningless, forgettable and not even worth counting as bosses. You make it sound like there is 100's of endgame bosses and you cant remember a simple detail. Quin has been playing probably 6-7 years more then I have and if he cant remember how Breachstone's work then he's bricked.
Maven - Static
Sirus - Static
Shaper & Uber Elder - Static
All Breachstone bosses - Static
A majority of the other bosses can also be static if you simply run them as white (normal quality) maps.
Quin on the other hand seems to think almost all bosses in PoE 1 are not static.
