Kirsty MacColl - Terry
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 тра 2015
- Kirsty's version of her song "Terry" was released over a year before Tracey Ullman's cover. Both were minor UK hits. Another great Stiff Records video clip with a cameo appearance by Ade Edmondson.

What a beautiful voice and she was way ahead of her time and she didn’t receive the respect that she deserved. One of a kind very unique.Rip Kirsty🇮🇪🙏
Always been a big fan of Kirsty. After her sad demise, I would sit on the Kirsty MacColl bench. In Soho square and eat my lunch and think about the marvelous music She created. Kirsty's music lives on forever. And it deserves to.
Me too tod ..sorely missed. I love that the kirsty bench moves around .so I have to look for it ...fitting tribute .a lonely bench in Soho square ...
I was travelling in Mexico in December of 2000.....on a beach in Tulum, less than 20 miles from where Kirsty tragically died. I remember reading about it online when I returned home. To this day, it cuts me up inside to think of what happened to her......gonna have to sit on that bench some time.
She played in Cleveland with the Pogues, sometime in the 1980s, it was a blizzard outside and there were only about 40 people in the audience, they played all kinds of songs then came out to the bar in the back and bought everyone drinks. She was pretty, talented and a delight. A saint.
A truly sad loss, killed through arrogance, denied justice through corruption.
They killed a good one 😔
@@arranhorron5173 Apparently someone was paid off to take the rap for her death while the guilty party ( from a rich family ) remained untouched.
You can do some research now that you have an idea of apparent story arran, well that's if you want to of course. She was hit by a speedboat that was prohibited to be in the swimming area.
She was swimming with her two sons and her death came just seconds after she heroically saved the life of her son Jamie, who was 15 at the time.
@@arranhorron5173 I agree arran, it was my friend that told me the full story and showed me some articles about it years ago, shocking really, no justice in this case.
Not sure as kirsty herself had a very privileged upbringing and was from a family of money and connections.
@@adrinathegreat3095 which has zero to do with the point. She was still killed by capitalism, wealth and corruption.
I can't understand how anybody could leave sombody with a dancing style that fierce.
same 💀
This hook-laden song stays in your head. It is a great pop song.
Yup, tremendous songwriting.
The beautiful, under rated Kirsty MacColl...SO sorely missed!!! Rest In Peace X
Big big fan of this beautiful woman and love aide Edmondson in this Brilliant!!❤❤
Such an underrated singer/songwriter with an Amazing catalogue of songs.
But all the UK radio can plays is Days. New England or fairytale.
Tho great tracks.
Kirsty was so much more than just 3 track plays.
As in life she's disregarded by radio.
Least her fans around the world no better.
(. Rip love )
Better late than never I found her . beautiful voice and delivery. Only the good die young.
It still breaks my heart watching these videos. Such a sad, sad loss.
A criminally sad loss.
Go to the Kirsty Memorial. We meet on the nearest Sunday to her birthday at Soho Square. terrific meet up.
Kirsty is a beautiful singer, her best song is Fairytale of New York!
@@gerretlorenzen5239 Yes Gerret. A wonderful day of Kirstys music. An excellent way to remember and introduce new generations to the late great KIRSTY MACCOLL😇
I’m obsessed with the 80s and I can’t believe I’ve never heard this from either Kirsty or Tracey but I love it and I’ll be back.
Neither the wonderful kirsty or Tracey ulman could put this brilliant song in the top 40 ...both only reached 80 odd ...it's truly astounding
I used to love watching Kirsty on the French and Saunders show. Hope she's singing for my mum and dad in heaven.
She gave her life for her child. She will be in the most beautiful heaven. God bless her!
@@MrJonah53 She was. She pushed her son out of the boats path and it hit Kirsty instead.
@@MrJonah53 she was killed by a speedboat; she pushed her child out of the way of the propeller and was killed in the process
Brilliant , love this song , and a very young Ade Edmondson !!!
She was so amazingly beautiful. So tragic what happened to her and how those responsible were never truly punished
"You thought you were such a smarty -but Terry knows about karate!"
You've got to love the lyrics of this song :)
Brilliant lyrics...
What a great song! Sounds better now than it did in the 1980's.
rest in heaven lovely lady! Grew up on her music. Wish i could have met her to tell her how much i love and appreciate her. Her mum is with her now in heaven. ♥
I must confess, I just found this famous singer today. By luck. And got really upset to hear that she passed away such a long time. What a voice! How comes I’ve never heard of her? I don’t know. I really like most of her songs , straight away.
Are you over 40? If not, probably the reason but never too late to find these gems.
Listen to New England, amazing track
Her dad wrote 'Dirty Old Town' and 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' :-)
Fame is very unfairly fickle. Just discovered her myself, similar to despite my lifelong devotion to Weird Al, it took the Sparks Brothers movie to get me to wake up and get to enjoying them finally. And I am happily in my late 40s approaching 50. Just putting that out there in response to Ray Gaskell's reply. At least we have "discovered" her now. :)
@@CaptainParatos Sparks Brothers - Same here
Two of my favourite people in this. The late great Kirsty and the brilliantly funny Ade
Kirsty was amazing. She helped her friend Tracey Ullman on both her albums and even did background vocals for Tracey too.
So much missed.
What is really sad and gross in life, is that people that gives a lot and help other people a lot (if they are not even broken by the people they help) never get the attention or the recognition they deserve. Kirsty seemed to be a very generous and loving person.
Greatness never dies....thanks love❤️
I never knew this existed until UA-cam recommended it. She is one of my all-time favorites, and Tropical Brainstorm remains in my top five albums of all time. I choke up thinking about her loss, which to my way of thinking rivals the loss of Buddy Holly.
What an astute comment. Different eras of course and Buddy was a pioneer, but Kirsty's loss is comparable in that her genius was her songwriting and how many terrific songs have we missed out on because of that fateful Cuban day. Love both Buddy and Kirsty. Both gone their legends live on.❤
She was such a talent .not one bad song ...think of all the stuff she could've wrote ...love her
Kirsty: doing it for all gingers everywhere. I will love you forever ❤️
Totally brilliant, only just discovered this clip, seen the version with Lemmy plenty of times but not this one, between Kirsty and Ade...magical 😊
Beautiful woman, beautiful soul, beautiful voice. R.I P
Famous legend.
Greatness lasts forever, thanks love❤️
One of my favourite songs; both versions are absolutely gorgeous!
This was the first song of Kirsty’s that I heard and was hooked on her songs from then on RIP beautiful talented lady
I just love this song. I wish Kirsty's version of the song was made available here in the United States. Thanks goodness for UA-cam!!!!!!!!!!!
Kristy songs came out an era or two too early to be appreciated back in the late 70s. Her songs grew in us as time passes by. And now it just haunting us. "I don't want to change the world. I'm not looking for a new England..." not written by her but it sums up the creativeness of Kristy. RIP Kristy MacColl.
Her first song was 1979 and that was they don't know, all of her other songs where 80s such as this New England and Fairy-tale of new york. Then of course she continued to produce more music until her death in 2000. Her layering of voices is something she perfected earlier on than anyone else (it had been done in the 60s but not to the extent kirsty did where she did all of her own backing etc) really and songs like "days" where really cutting edge. Walking down madison was an example of too early for its time, as was some of the 2000 stuff which had the Mexican theme and you think of the song "havana" and some of the tropical brainstorm and you can see how ahead she was. " Angel" is another song that is produced very well for its time, all of her songs had a clean feel that you didn't get with other artists. Even in the 80s she didn't seem to use the tinny sythns and drum machines. She was very unique really.
Happy birthday to the beautiful and extremely talented Kirsty MacColl. Taken from us far too soon. R.I.P.
RIP Kirsty MacColl, too bad we couldn't hear more of your talent.
Heroes are not born. They are made in the moment, and Kirsty was the bravest of those. Godspeed for a remarkable human being.
I love her voice in this song.
She was so darn pretty and was a protective mother till the end. ❤
It is very nice to see that even after someone is gone that they can leave something like a song...or even a video to make people smile. ^_^
I think Kirsty is just beautiful esp in this video.....
+Doug E she looks a little like Isla Fisher....so cute
+Doug E Even better when the colour kicks in. She was so many things...
+Doug E I so agree
Damn sure, she is sexy here.
was there ever a time she wasn't.....
Kirsty is flawless in this video.... the guys dancing at the end is a killer! lol
i always loved this young woman ,she was very talented her voice was special xxx
One of the best songs/clips ever.
It's a well delivered, acted, brush off gesture that she does with her eyes and head ......
I had more than enough of those!
Such a beautiful spirited aurora to Kristy, she was such a beautiful woman, a woman that I would never be able to take my eyes off of. R.I.P angel
This only made 82 in the UK charts. How was this not a big hit???????
Because not many people bought it, it wasn't commercial and wasn't that popular with many people.
Plus she wasn't dead when it came out and death often makes people more famous than they were when they were alive.
If it wasn't for the ever green Xmas song played every year relentlessly on the radio she'd be all but forgotten
Oh my gosh I just LOVE this song and video!
A favourite of mine from the hugely talented Kirsty MacColl. Just love the wall of sound & Kirsty's bubble gum lyrics. Motorhead's Lemmy adored Kirsty & mimed guitar to this on a German TV pop show....a joy to see a young Ade Edmondson too.
loved that Lemmy mime - I had such a crush on Lemmy. :)
I'm still deeply in love with Kirsty 😥
I remember when Stiff Records started up and did a tour with some great names like Ian Dury and Elvis Costello. They threw t-shirts into the crowd with "If it ain't Stiff it ain't worth a fuck". I didn't manage to get one because people were beating the shyte out of each other to get one :-)
She was a brilliant singer a sad loss🤩😊😎🤗
That's Adrian Edmondson, aka Vyvyan in the Young Ones - also one half of the Dangerous Brothers with Rik Mayall, and one half of Mr Jolly Lives Next Door! One thousand, three hundred and fifty one gins please landlord. Large ones!
I love both versions - great!
I was rooting for Adrian Edmondson anyway.
@@crispindry2815 Terry's into *a* guy, at the very least...
You are an angel kirsty lots of love always RIP forever, thanks for the music xxxxxxxxx
catchy song, pretty singer, hooked on both!
Terry knows about karate;but what stays in the unknown! This is my favorite Kisrty song, love it!
And that's not all. He's also as tough as Marlon Brando.
"Can't you see the door is open, so if you don't want your nose broken..." Classic
Excellent video. ★★★★★
Such a great song, 80's rock and roll.. too sad she isn't around anymore
Willem Ekkelboom If having Lemmy on bass ain't rock and roll, I don't know what is!
This is such a great pop song, I was shocked to learn that it only got to nr 82 (!) in the charts back then. It's a classic pop song. So good that even all the fellas in the world who had their woman "stolen" by a Terry can't help but sing-a-long to this gem.
You are dearly missed Kirsty!
+Greatest1979 I used to have this record!
Yes, this song 'Terry' is the counterpart to 'Gordon is a moron' (that is as a compliment).
Timeless Beauty. Love her so much.
Absolutely Brilliant voice R.I.P KIRSTY
God bless you, Kirsty. Rest in peace, beautiful lady.
R.I.P. Gone too soon Kirsty X
Ade’s mental dancing at the end!!!
RIP lovely lady, thinking of you today x
Kirsty looks SO pretty in this video
I know but what year is this music video in when she was singing "Terry"
@@trionabyrne72 I think this was from 1983.
@@rjjcms1 Really? Are you sure that this music video "Terry" was in 1983?
@@trionabyrne72 I know she released Terry as a single towards the end of 1983. At the time Tracey Ullman had just had a number 2 hit covering Kirsty's 1979 song They Don't Know (the first song by her I heard when it was out back then, over two years before her first hit with There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Who Swears He's Elvis). I presumed this video was made to go with the single release, but I could be wrong or right about that. I may have even seen it at the time,I was a teenager then, but it's too long ago for me to be sure.

R.I.P Kirsty you where a star.
Ade Edmondson!
God bless, you Kirsty
i always loved this young woman ,she was vert talented ,her voice was unique xx
Ade Edmondosn.............!!
Jolie rose anglaise à la voix de miel and apparently a hero. Mes respects, Mrs. MacColl. Que les anges veillent sur vous.
What a talented young lady she was......what a tragedy
So GOOD.
What a video! I’ve never seen it but love this song so much!
As someone growing up in the UK at the time I did not hear it on the radio until several months after its release (I never clicked with John Peel, on too late anyway and on school nights anyway, but the The Annie Nightingale request show shaped my music tastes like no other).
I have had a crush on Kite since totp in the eighties RIP Kirsty
Talentueuse
So good.
Still love it.
So fine. What a wonderful song and great video.
Terrific! I bought the record, where popular.
At a time I made a quizz to a party, the question was:
At some time in "Terry" Kirsty Mccoll sings "I know" many times after each other.
How many:
10, 11, 12 or 13?
To my surprise 8 out of ten had the answer right!
Take your guess, then play the song and check.
So sad she left early, but she was still lucky.
"Life in the years", not "years in the life".
Greatness is forever....thanks love.
what a stunner she is .
I love Kirsty.....and her music
Kirsty is my hero in real life. RIP sweet lady 💓
Superb Ade Edmundson
God .this is an oldie .remember it well
RIP Kirsty, gone 20 years ago today. :(
Simply classic
Proper gorgeous "girl next door" so sad she left us.
I love your songs there really cool
Wow, just saw this for the first time, and it's so good. AND she's dancing with Vyvyan!
Adore
The BEST.
Ade Edmondson with hair!!!1
yeah very beautiful very sad what a awful lost in such awful circumstances RIP Kirsty we all miss you
Love this song. Oddly, some of the scenes appear to have been filmed in Arnos Grove, North London which is where the Tracy Ullman version also seems to have been filmed.
The band & dance scenes L@@K like they were filmed in "The Dublin Castle" in Camden ...
Glad that in both this and Tracey's take, the right guy wins.
