A very underrated singer. Tracey's album, You Broke My Heart in 17 Places, is a classic.
Got both her albums
Doesn't Tracy know how much we need her now, more than ever before! Where are you Tracy!

I hear ya, but she can't breakaway

you're welcome 😉
Last I heard rumors were she's 6 feet under, she died like 3 years ago

Where do you get your information from?
OMG ! Tracy was so talented. She was involved in just about every aspect of the entertainment business. Singing, acting, writing, directing - you name it.
Totally agree but here in Asia, she was almost unheard of.People said "Who", when I spoke of her.She was hilarious and has a great voice.
And brought the Simpsons to us
I'm ready to be Her next backup singer
Hilarious n loved this back as a kid and to drop on it today. Takes me back.
So silly n yeah "girls on top," right?🤸♥️
I am I am!!! I waited on Tracy in NYC IN 1997 when I was in college❤️
I've only heard this song on the radio, but never in my childhood in the 80's. Just incredible to believe this song is from 40 years ago now. It's still cool!
This captured the 1960’s girl group pop vibe perfectly without sounding pastiche. Love it!
It didn't hurt that it was originally written & recorded in 1964.
@@mikechampagne-manresagroup9288 Kirsty McColl wrote it and not in the 60’s 😉
Sorry, cap; you couldn't be more wrong. Kirsty MacColl (not McColl) wrote "They Don't Know". "Breakaway" was written by Jackie DeShannon and Sharon Sheeley and recorded by Irma Thomas in 1964:

@@prezakid9No, this one was from 1964. You're probably thinking of "They Don't Know", which was originally by Kirsty.
Tracey was such a good singer, perfomer, actress and impersonator that it was so easy to overlook how good-looking she is.
You never hear her songs on the radio. She has been erased from history.

She is different and of course multi talented.
Best dance song from the 80's!
This song has a very special place in my heart. I randomly heard it once (just once!) in the radio when I was a teenager, and then I spent several years of my life (the better part of decade, actually) searching for it at least once every few months. I didn't remember any of the lyrics except for the word "breakaway/break away" (which is surprisingly commonplace in song lyrics) and was just holding tight to the increasingly tenuous memory of the song to move forward. To me, this song is the living embodiment of my ridiculous levels of stubbornness.
Hey glad you found it! I know the feeling of endlessly searching for that 'earworm song' when you only have a few lyrics to go on. I totally forgot about this track and only stumbled-on b/c that advert 'don't take away my breakaway' came to mind for no particular reason lol.
Searching breakaway is way easier than nononononononononononono. It took me years.

I used to watch Tracey with my dad, we both loved her. he's been gone almost 5 years now, this brings back many happy memories!
Wouldn't trust someone that doesn't like this song.
:-))))
Brilliant comment 😁😉
I can’t trust myself not to like her😀
Is that Bert Quigleys wife????
So you trust me! Thanks for your confidence!
Love me some Tracey Ullman! I’ve been a fan of hers since the 80s, when she started out with The Tracey Ullman Show. So much fun!
This song lift my mood quickly
gave me gas.
Has a 60s sound, I love it
I'm 20 years old and I discovered Tracey Ullman in my grandparents car on the way to London, I made them replay her debut album and I am obsessed. she is amazing! why didn't I discover her before?
Charlotte, I just have to ask . . . What was Tracey doing in you grandparents car? Were they giving her a lift . . . ? Anyway, I agree, she is amazing - there are so many fab clips on UA-cam featuring her. Enjoy them!
Ooohh i see the problem lol I meant on the cd.
Charlotte - just to let you know that your original remarks just made this old bloke have a real good laugh! I particularly like Tracey's video of Move Over Darling, with the motor bike and side car, and the locomotive. It's a riot. Cheers Phil

plenty of time for you to learn more about her brilliance!
I remember being very pleasantly shocked by this album. I still have it on CD.
Tracy Ullman ...
One hell of a talented women 💯
It's 2024 and I have picture of her on my living room wall in Grimsby, taken from my Best of Tracey Ullman CD.
American here, I know of Grimsby thanks to Laurence Brown and his UA-cam channel Lost In The Pond. He lives in Chicago now but mentions his hometown often. Cheers!
@@timmmahhhh I watch Lost In The Pond too. I was very surprised when he said he was from Grimsby!
I love love love tracey ullman . When i was younger i wanted to be just like her , but was nowhere as talented as her ! 🤩
God bless you,,😍🤩 Tracy. Ullman
She did some great stuff. Great voice. Always thought she was underrated. Love you xx
The girl on the right is Alison Thomas, I always felt that she has an incredible smile, she can light up the place
Tracy Ullman was brilliant! Multi-talented, she could do everything and was really fast on her feet witty and sharp! Breakaway recalls the early sixties, go-go dancing girl power, a great pop song in itself, it could have been on the charts in '63!--Pitch perfect, the outfits, the big hair--I was around in those days and this nails it!
Break-a-Way was written in the 60s and realesed by Irma Thomas in 1964 in the USA as a B side to a top 20 hit single. It didn't make the top 100. Ullman's is a cover version.
@@julierobinson3633 Beryl Marsden recorded it in Britain in the '60s, which was probably Tracey's inspiration to record it herself.
The great Tracey for ever !!!!!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😃😃
I love Tracey! She could've been a singer, and we wouldn't have been the wiser.
love tracey and her cover of breakaway. i first heard this song in the way back by the great irma thomas.

"Breakaway"
You Broke My Heart In 17 Places
RCA Records, 1984
another classic of the 80s doo wop rockabilly revival era
This Ullman's song that's is a fine sensation is one of Tracey's very coolest - Her great music demestrates how she such an amazing gift creating very great sound.😊❤
Every single tune of her is so sensationally exciting!
So far, for me, I only know about this song 🎵 and They Don't Know. I love ❤️ almost everything about this clip, especially the bed jumping scene at 2:23.
The old 1960's Dan settee record player, I still have one so good
Yes, Dansette! I had one as a present, Christmas 1968. I can still remember that lovely smell of the vinyl covering with a hint of rubber record mat and waem valves, with my mams old Adam Faith records playing on it!
@@BradBrassman great sound and worth money now
That record player is a "Fidelity" dating back to the late 1950s, we had the same one in red
Tracey did a good job making this cover. It's simply fantastic!!!!
Who did the original? couldnt find anything sounding similar to this.
@@Tenma2411 Irma Thomas
@@Tenma2411 Written in 1964 by Jackie DeShannon and Sharon Sheeley, Jackie recorded a '64 demo, heard by Irma Thomas and recorded as a B-side for her. Jackie's demo recording never saw the light of day til a '94 compilation.
WHO CAN NOT LOVE THIS LADY and Comic Genius! Tracey forever!
And they're HOT!
Timeless masterpiece & instant happy energy ❤️ i love it ❤️
2024 !!! 😇
this song was written by Jackie de Shannon (aka Sherry Lee Myers) who grew up in Batavia, Illinois (my home town and my parents' home town). my father had a jewelry store downtown and gave music lessons part-time...Jackie/Sherry was one of his students or so he says. as i love Tracy Ullman's many talents and always had a crush on her back up singer on the viewers right, i can think of nobody more worthy of Jackie's/Sherry's song, presumably written around the early sixties...those great days of all-girl groups.
I wish she would do another TV show, she is one of this country's best comedians.
Stil listening in 2024 anyone?
Amazing to think that just 18 months after this she turned her back on her music career for good. She had the world at her feet.
She did say when the hits stopped, she would stop.
@@skinscream the hits didn't stop. She did! I read that she just hated being a pop star. Fair enough.
She left us with this masterpiece so be thankful 😊
❤Love this "vintage" 2021 Tracey Ullman🤗
Hi cristina hope you're okay?
Hi
Saw this 7” single in a shop today… How had I forgotten it (and Tracey mugging cross-eyed for the cover)….
Nearly 2023 and still loving it.

I was a teenager back then, now I'm 54. I can't break away...
Yup.
I'm 56 and miss those days.
I'm 60 and still lovin'this
God, I miss the 80's.
Oh god, me too!!
todos también. aquí en México
I love Tracey. She's funny, she's a great singer and she's really cute.
Tracey has always been a mega talent . One of the funniest sketch artists and impressionist in the business . I think after she did a spot on impersonation of Celine Deon interviewed by Larry King at Katrina that I think Celine saw it and quit quivering her lips when she sang !
Beautiful, beautiful princess! Tracy Ulman! Love all your songs! Where are you today?
In the US, she had a late 80s tv show on which she often sang. It was aptly called "The Tracey Ullman Show" .
Yes... she was a pretty big deal over here , then she went to the U.S.A. after that she kind of dropped off our radar. Apparently she did o.k , t.v work , married , children etc.....
It launched The Simpsons
Tracey's videos are just brilliant!!
Hi Robin hope you're okay z

What a talented and beautiful woman!
Wow I remember getting the album from the library in the 80 s absolutely brilliant
I am listening now in 2024, this is excellent
Love Tracey Ullman!!!
Peaked at No. 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984. Her U.S. follow up single to, “They Don’t Know”.
I looked like this in first year only with a bigger nose brings back lots of great memories. Tracy Ullman so funny always cheers me up. Thanks for posting.
Absolutely fabulous 😃
I brought the album when it first came out (on cassette) and there isn't a bad tune on it. Sure it's largely 50s covers, but when she can sing and the music is this infectious, who cares.
1983 and my first teenage crush xxx
I want back the 80s...love this song, imo one of the best of this decade.
Very underrated singer never get tired of listening to her and also a great comedian. Oh yes and she is Beautiful 💕💕
Still listening to this song in 2022 and I'll never stop to in the years to come.
Po czterech dekadach odnalazłem cię Tracey👍
...I'm here because That's TV often play They Don't Know on their 80s music hours throughout the day and it's nice to catch up on her other material!
Those eyes at 2.03 from the backing singer... can I go back 34 years please?
I always thought Tracey Ullman is a comedian.I never knew she could sing.
adrienne gellman both a very talented lady,if it wasn't for her there'd be no Simpsons
She was bank-rolled by her millionaire husband to get on the telly over there. The Simpsons were NOT her creation. The Simpsons would have been a success without her.
Comedienne. She is not funny over here-never was.
Doesn't make her any less talented .... He might have bank rolled the production ... but don't you need viewing figures for a show to run... but then what do I know
You make it sound like her husband's a big American mogul - he was a Scottish TV producer. Tracey Ullman has been at the top of her profession for 30-odd years and is worth £60 million - you don't achieve that with a marriage! You obviously don't like her shows that's personal taste but come on, credit where credit's due!
The album with this and "They Don't Know" is great. I only recently learned all the songs are covers.
I love this women, she is one of britains icon's Well she's special I wish I had met her.

Writing this for the record. I have heard about Tracey Ullman many times in the past. But never knew who she really was. But now I have been watching a lot of videos of her, and I have now realized how great she is. I am very glad to have found her talent. Thank you for accepting me here (at this point I feel like an android lol).
Reminds me of high school days. Since then, I keep listening her debut album. Love it !!!
Hands up all those people who used to sing in front of a mirror with a hairbrush as a microphone??? Oh,such happy memories😜
I used to use a tennis racquet as a guitar, but it's pretty much the same thing.

Whatever we could get our hands on to use as a microphone we would🤣
Reminded me of someone at my school😀
A big favourite of mine this one ... Singing with a hairbrush with my mates.. Where did those years go nearly 50 yrs old ..Now where is the hair brush .😂

The craziest song I know. Since it has come out in the 1980s.

Such a cheery song considering it's about a volatile relationship.
Like The Police's Every step you take, it's a stalking song disguised as a love song
Love her!
This is the best vocal and comical take on a 60's Girl Group tune ever. Look at Tracey's face at 2:29. Just awesome and genius xxx
Hi Clare hope you're okay?
She has a lovely voice.
Absolutely love this song, it’s so infectious I can’t stop moving!
Very talented. Lady ❤️
Tracy Ullman always sang fifties sounding songs back in the early 80's!
It's 60s NOT 50s idiot.

Tracey hipped me to the hairbrush mic! 😆 I was in 1st grade when this video came out. My crush was Ronald Chambers. The night I saw this video, I said I was gonna sing this song to him the next day at school. 😂
