    Ha! I don't play with pets (way too much micromanagement for my tastes), but I can add a few tips to help living outside on your own:
    Outdoor Retreat is *the* most OP gamepack if you want to go this route: you can put most furniture in your sim's inventory and take it with you. The inflatable bed, the shower, the icebox and lounge chairs. The bar, the firepit: pretty much everything is easy to take up with you *anywhere*. Also, it adds the different moodlets for eating produce, stargazing, cloudgazing, etc.
    If you have the Fitness Stuff pack you have got to get one of those headphones from the computer. Turn it on, cancel, never worry about fun again, as long as it's playing.
    I don't bother about getting tense because yoga mats and meditation cushions. Once you get good enough at it you can teleport to secret lots you unlocked.
    Speaking of which: why bother living in a neighborhood if you can literally camp in Sylvan Glades? Don't bother with weather, great fishing spots and produce most of the year (I think there are pears and apples in the area? Nothing for summertime, I'm afraid), don't bother with temperature extremes at all, the only setback is you can't edit the lot without cheats, but with the portable furniture you don't really need to bother.
    One of my favorite strategies is to move neighborhoods depending on the season. The park in Oasis Springs is amazing all year round, I avoid Willow Creek and Brindleton Bay during rainy season due to thunderstorms being more common there. Newcrest and San Myshuno are really cold during winter, and Windenburg is surprisingly tame -- the Middle of Nowhere lot in the island is a great place to live outdoors with so many nature amenities close by. You can always make your lot Private (no visitors) and go out to meet new people: making friends in nightclubs is an excellent strategy.
    Forget the easel. You can make serious money taking photos and don't even need to invest in any equipment to start making a buck. It's much quicker too.
    The outdoor grill is portable, so you can bring it with you to other lots (not that you really need to, with all the food stands out in the world).
    Finally: Klepto is the perfect trait to match with this kind of gameplay. "Borrow" some item to help your sim learn a new skill and then give it back for the moodlet.

      My pets pretty much take care of themselves in game and don't really get into too much trouble. They're easier than toddlers that's for sure. Lolz

    In a recent play through, I used a tent to travel from area to area, very rarely staying at the home lot. It's a great way to get all the nature achievements and collect all the veggies, fruits and flowers, which need a bit of time to spawn and grow.

    This has inspired me to make a hippie compound with a farm and a few tents. It won't be bare minimum, but I never thought to use the tents for anything other than the camp sites or on a jungle adventure. Great video, I've been subbed for a few months and your videos are a great value to the sims community. Thanks for the tips, I'll be sure to watch more of your videos.

      That's awesome. I was hoping to inspire some ideas or discussion with this, as it's a video kind of all over the place. I thought of it as an essay of sorts, just a sloppy one but I had a lot of fun recording it and wanted to make use of that great footage once I'd gone so far. Ultimately my favorite videos to make are those where I have a random gameplay idea and roll with it. Like planning ahead the flower shop for seasons then killing it once I actually started the business. It's nice to see things work out. This.... did, I guess, but because it didn't have much of a goal. :)

    I have always since the first Sims game loved to camp outside especially for a new Sim. But Seasons changed that. I had a Sim female in the game 2 days living in a city park I built. Then grilling breakfast in freezing winter weather-she fell over and died. I really liked her too.

  • @kendo2377

    I did this too. I set up camp on the small island in Windenburg. For traits I picked Cheerful, Loves Outdoors and Lonewolf. Slept in a tent, had the outdoor shower, a campfire, camp chairs and a cooler. All I did was fish and collect. It was fun, for what it was.

    It’s not like leaving everything outdoors will stop some people from criticizing how you can’t build because they’d shift their focus to how badly things are lied out and not painting the grass or anything :)
    Entertaining vid nonetheless, I really need to send my sims on a vacation too.
    PS. I believe bushes were first featured in Get Together.

      2, You didn’t upload it!
      (One more thing, I remember reading this on your guide, slapping a piece of roof onto any sim will still protect them from weather conditions.)

    I made a campsite for 6 Sims using only the initial money of a single Sim (check MirthyrZeo Camping Dream on the galery), you forgot that you can wash your clothes by hand and use the clothesline to dry.
    One thing that REALLY frustrated me was the small campfire, that thing starts fire all the time, it's so often that I had to download a mod to completely remove the fire chance of this object.
    I'm thinking in make a Sim with a guitar (and a dog of course), to start the music carrer living like this (playing guitar on the campfire is very cool), the map will be the small island of Windenburg.
    Edit: forgot to tell, you also can use the hidden object cheat to purchase a public bathroom, because those toilet bushes makes your pet sick all the time, I made a outdoor bathroom for my Sim but since it was the only place with doors, it was registered as the main house door, so when people visit me they all gather inside of the bathroom xD

    • @CarlsSimGuides
      @CarlsSimGuides  5 років тому +7

      I know basically nothing about making campfires but yet I am sure that I could avoid burning things down let alone setting myself on fire so I agree with you on that one being something that should be changed. And yeah the dog kept getting bit by squirrels with warnings about an infection. That poor animal was never happy. I was thinking I'll just put down a vet clinic - I need to get the last feathers for the collection. I asked to review a couple of stuff packs and they obliged so I have a few things I hadn't seen like earbuds. I'm kinda unsure where a few of these things came from - my site does not typically cover stuff packs unless they do a lot for gameplay. However they are more interesting to cover in video format and this may lead to a change in direction for me.
      Also, playing guitar is one of my favorite ways to earn money. I just wish there was a better tipping system in Sims 4 so that at times someone would toss $150 in your hat. The version in 3 was utterly broken as there was an exploit based on the number of times played. Play/cancel etc until you're getting hundreds (maybe thousands) in tips every time!

    For my Sims that live outdoors, I like using the sets and props from Get Famous to tell a story. For instance making it look like my alien Sim crashed to Earth, or making the lot look like a pirate shipwreck with its cargo spilling out onto the sand.
    For me, it adds a bit more to the fun!

  • @nedrane297
    @nedrane297 5 років тому +6

    LOL, I missed when this video it first came out because I spent most of the last week doing nothing but playing. (Don't judge me.) And I was playing similarly to this! Only mine was "homeless" challenge. We decorated the lot with large decoration items, like sets that made the lot look like an abandoned building and random plants, using almost all the money. Then sent them out with 50 simoleons to make their way in the world. Did not even give a tent, they had to earn the money to buy a tent.
    When you have all expansions, this actually isn't hard and it can be a lot of fun, my public lots had already been updated with things I wanted which turned out to be the just what homeless sims needed. For instance, I had put a few beds in clubs so when sims are about to fall down exhausted they can get some real rest. (Though I don't let my 'homeless' sim sleep there nightly or defeats the purpose.) Long long ago, I went thru to my libraries and made sure ALL skill books were there and I have one library set up as a public media center. But the game itself has kitchens in several public lots and there are easels everywhere it seems, with get famous there is a guitar in the bar and there is a violin in a lounge, there are pianos in lounges and bars. If you think about it just about any skill you want to level up has something available somewhere to do it. We decided to end the challenge by having your "homeless" sim have earned enough money to buy its "dream" home. Or just let them have fun going everywhere and doing everything. When its hot, I send them to the public pool, which has a bathroom with a shower and even a mirror if I want to have her level up in charisma or freshen up for that hot date. If you think this all sounds too easy, start out with a teenager (did give that one a tent to start) because they also have to go to school and have decent grades to be able to live alone. My teenage homeless boy was down to an F and I thought would get taken away when my little niece told me that glutton sims (which he was) can get food out of the trash cans and they never get sick eating spoiled food, so my teenager will now not die and has more time to do homework because can seriously scrounge for food.I'm going to stop now because I can go on and on and on and on and on ...

      Oh yeah! I totally forgot about the woodworking furniture! That's brilliant. In a way there are so many different things in the game it's hard to keep track of at this point, and to really do what I was trying to do in a perfect way, you should have a checklist of ideas. However it did start some discussion, which is cool :)

    I've been a fan of your Sims 3 site for years and just discovered you have videos after my mom bought Sims 4. They're just as informative as your site. One note on this vid, though. Most of what you talk about and show aren't in the base game but this is listed in the base game playlist. With other videos it doesn't matter as much because there's a lot of base game into but here it feels miscategorized. Anyway, you definitely got a new sub.

    First of all, I loved the video, I've tried doing things like this in the Sims 2 and 3, but certain items (toilets needed walls) so that made outdoor living difficult. I just recently got into the Sims 4, just before it became free (I paid under $7 for the digital deluxe version), so I haven't tried a whole lot out, but couldn't you put a fence around your lot and lock the gate? That way you could keep unwanted visitors out, or that Lot Trait that is supposed to do that too. Or do gates not lock in the Sims 4? I definitely know that I want to add Outdoor Retreat and Jungle Adventure, even more so affirmed after watching this video. Always love your guides for the Sims, very helpful!

      You could put a fence around but costly at 1st if you are started from £0. Also make sure to put fence in one tile on the grid so the gate will work. They do lock with many options too.

      I got into a few train hoppers/hobos videos and I learned a bit about the culture from them. I sort of want my gameplay to simulate reality a bit more, not to be a bummer thing but as a challenge. You can overcome challenges like getting kicked out of a home in Sims or avoid that entirely. At the same time it makes for a better story vs guy sits down at computer writes novels that are killing it in sales and lives happily ever after. Definitely considering looking into some of the darker mods and those that add a bit more challenge to the game.

    Hey Carl! I need to ask you, when you make a sim, you have the traits right? Well then there is little catalogs of traits on top with little icons, I only have the first page of traits and it’s been like this since I’ve got it, any ideas why? I play on console by the way, to be specific, PlayStation.

    • @CarlsSimGuides
      @CarlsSimGuides  5 років тому

      If you only see about 10, then you're only seeing the emotional (first) traits tab. Examples of non-emotional traits you should definitely have would be loves the outdoors or snob. If it's just active, romantic and creative for example there should be additional tabs you can access somehow. The PS4/Xbox have all the same base game traits you'll find on PC. I don't have TS4 installed on my playstation at the moment due to space issues and mostly playing on PC but I'd expect you either change those tabs manualy or use the L1/R1 buttons while in the trait selection area.
      Do you not see the icons for the different tabs (paint, sail boat, and champagne glasses) above the traits listing or are they there and not working?

    • @katesims3461
