- Hi, in this video tutorial I show one way of retrofitting a window vent to a upvc window if you are having issues with condensation or I'ts just an upgrade you want to do.
The profile I'm working on may vary from what you have but the principal is the same.
*Do not drill from inside to outside as there is a slight step usually so doing this may cause damage to the window or door.
**Before drilling measure the width of the vent to select the correct size of drill bit to use.

Thanks again for watching and hopefully it has helped someone :-)
The film infers that it is not necessary to cut a continuous slot and that it is ok to just drill a series of holes. It is, but beware - for a typical 400mm vent, the holes would have to be spaced with just 1.6mm between them to achieve the mandatory design airflow...
A window that big should have steel
Super thing, but not in too windy places.
Is there any way to easily test that air is flowing? As you can't drill a hole right through to the other side and have to drill on both sides I'm not sure if I did it right or stopped short. I drilled on both sides until I hit something solid.
Did I miss your explanation why you do inside then outside due to the step? You said you explain later on? When later on?
Roughly how many trickle vents would you require for 3m X 3m conservatory please.
Do new windows come with pre installed vents cause 6iu never see these on new windows
Instead of drilling multiple holes all the way along, could you use a multitool?
looks straightforward, is it always the opening panel that you fit to, or can you also fit to a fixed frame?
If you dont drill through the internal metal do they still work? Thanks Tom
Great video, thanks.
Cheers very helpful 👍
Thank you
I'd watched this video about 20 times before I attempted on my windows. I got a 13mm HSS bit especially for the job, but it would sometimes catch in my uPVC and my hand drill struggled, so in the end I used an oscillating multitool which worked much better.
what kind of worker should i hire to install a vented hood?
I have encourntered a metal barrie in some of my windows. Is it OK to drill through it?
Can you install these on already installed windows
