Superb video. None of the unnecessary chat. Straight to the point and easy to follow. Keep up the good work
this is the first time I've watched a video by you and you explained it really well. And you saved me some money too. Top man! I'm donating £5 but only for the celebration dance which I'm now going to do after every DIY success! Thank you!
Thanks buddy got the £5
Blokes like you have saved me a fortune. Much appreciated mate.
Just a little tip, I found it easier, in cold weather, to use a hair drier to soften the beads before trying to remove them. Sorry if that's common knowledge, I live in a bubble🤣
Thanks for the tip
Excellent, how all youtube videos sould be, simple to follow and straight to the point.
Thanks Stu …had a couple of sofas delivered today and no way were they going in through the conventional way …. So watched the video
And knocked out and refitted a 2100 x 1200 unit ( 45 kilo ? )in about 10 minutes … job done !
I owe you a beer 🙂
brilliant instructions, straight forward no-nonsense video, more please!
Made the procedure look easy and advice was very clear.
Absolute legend, saved me a fortune. Cheers Stu!!
looks so easy !! mine must be super glued in !! Ive been hammering a sharp chisel in, a tool the same as yours and it just wont open up !! I really dont want to pay a local company over £400 for two small units I can source myself for £96!!
My ones were also very tight. And it's even worse, this side was installed outwards (not easily accessible from the room)
Mate, you is an absolute legend. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for this great video Stuart. This gave me the confidence to replace 9 units in our windows.
Mine didn't come out so easy since the rubber was stuck to the glass. Used silicone spray and a flexible table knife to break the seal. I also needed to use a mallet since the beading was firmly clipped in. There were a couple of areas where I'd left a nick in the edge of the frame/beading. I used fine glass paper to remove the burrs. Thanks again.
Excellent tutorials with a nice bit of humour as well.
Thanks for the video, saving people a fortune.
This is wired I had to change my garage window glass today and then this pops up

Thanks for this! Installer put a unit in upside down in a fixed sash with Georgian bars - wife noticed the horizontal bar doesn't align with the opening sash it sits next to in the window! Saves calling them out again, cheers!

Stu, get yourself a "Moon Knife" it's every glaziers favourite weapon, I have a Wurth one, around £19 on EBay, it's a crag rest bit of kit, you can get them cheaper if you shop around or you might find them in your local trade tool shop! Thanks for another cracking video Fella
+TheAudiostud we've had one of them they're bloody deadly mate I will stick to bladed edge palet knife 😁
Thanks mate.
Nice job
thankyou :)
This guy knows his shit 👏👏
Thank you♥️♥️✌️
Keep the knife flat when getting in between bead otherwise you will damage them using the corner of the knife
Great video thanks! Is it the same process if the glass is in the opening window?
thanks
Top job, cant believe how loose the frame is. Can see it moving when your removing the last run of bead.
i know crazy right
Smooth
Very good video i thought it would involve screws and other things
easier thank you though Karan
NO WAY!!!
No bloody way it is this easy?!?
Do you need to replace any seals around the glass too?
Fantastic video, thanks Stuart. I have the same type of window( internally beaded), I have noticed the external rubber gasket seal on the outside of window is starting to become rather brittle. Is it possible to replace the rubber seal gasket without removing the window from the frame? Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Stu what screws do you use to fix the window to the wall. sorry in advance if this is a silly Question.
I am looking to replace the glass with framed window can you advise where to look. So basically I have same window as yours but I am looking to install 2 windows in that space. cheers
My man
Looks easy 😆
How do you measure the glass replacement?
What arwe those blue pieces underneath the bottom of the panel? Are they located somehow locqated in the frame?
Hi. Doesn't the window sit on the packers to give it a lift or are the packers square to the frame?
I really needed some help with this, because I blew today I similar window to a door and I stay to a rent house, I need to replace this window before the owner of the house will find out. Usually, when I go to a window store, they can cut me the window to measures I need?
Nice!!!!!!
How you just did it is how I do it, but when I went to pick up a second hand window for my shed the seller (a window fitter) stopped me from doing it that way and removed the rubber strip from the front so no pressure on glass the the trim came straight out easy!! Only thing is I don't know the rubber bit goes back in? Can you help? Do you have a vid for that?
Awesome
My brother had to pay some guy 60 quid to take window pane out so he could get new settee in living room it took him 10 minutes, I'll show him this video next time.
nice one mark
Stu, can i use this as a guide on my website?
Looks easy but every thing kooks easy when a professional does it. 😅 thanks for the video want to try this but scared because my windows age huge.
Great video thanks. Wondering how much you think a panel of glass that size (unfrosted) would cost and where to find a glass supplier? And would they deal with a diy-er or only tradesman?
you can look online for window suppliers, or you can contact some in your local area. They should sell to the general public as this can be done by a competent DIY'er. No-one can tell you the price as there are various factors that determine the price.
Stu, have you and KC done a video on heel and toeing windows?, as cant find a decent one on here!
Yes that reminds me I need to edit that one
perfect ,,
hi, i have 2 missed up panes where do i measure from for the new panes of glass, so i dont have to take them out first cheers
I have the same issue.
measure from bead line in milometers (mm) to the opposite side bead line (that's the edge of the bead that meets the frame edge) then take of 10mm from your measurement, that will give you the glass size you need.
Where can u get a replacement beads for a double glazed window
I've got about 5 blown panels in my house. How do i measure up for replacements? Do i need to take them out and measure or do i just measure up to the outside edge of the beading?
How to clean up old damaged screen PVC on Window panels, thanks
great video stu ! but you coulda tarted the window up a bit as well .......lol ...cheers mate .
hahah cheers tart
Whats the issue if water is slightly seeping out of the internal beading?
Wow it that how u going on brother
Hi Stu, mu units don't appear to have beading on the inside (or outside). Looks like the may be bonded at the corners? any ideas on what i could do to exchange the glass?
Actually on looking close they are externally beaded. Is it the same process? Looks difficult to get them out?
@@paulpatrick2208 there will be some internal rubber around the inside of the frame, remove that before you remove your external beading, have a spotter on the other side of the window is always a good idea.
Where did you get your knife from mate?
I don’t have beading on all my windows they look sealed does this sound right ??
can you tell me a website in the UK where i can buy a single glass insert, please?
I need a video on how yo remove a UPVc porch
I'm curious why no mention of replacing the glazing tape? Are you reusing the old or do your windows not have double-sided glazing tape like most all these type windows here in the US?
Internally beaded doent use double sided tape it sits on rolled in rubber gasket
You are correct: for security and water seal, there should be double-sided glazing tape.. A lot of UK double-glazing was originally fitted as a rushed job, with no effort to seal the gap between window frame and wall, this latter made easier in recent hears by expanding 3M tape and similar.. the old method, using expanding foam, added a lot of time / an extra day visit to the job.. I guess not removing the cover tape from double-sided tape was another way to save a few minutes. Lazy approach.
Where can find glass
Ive got all the side pieces off but the glass wont come out.. tried everything. Looks like its hammer time.. lol. Damnit..
Can you do this from the outside aswell?
You'll have rubber gasket around the inside of your window which you will need to remove first before you remove the external bead, its the same principle.
How much does it cost to replace inner broken glass??
Try glazing a 8inch square window when you can't bend the trim. Very difficult. Larger windows a quite easy
Hey stu bit late watching this vid but ive got a question if the windows have water in them and its not condensation because you open them every day at least for 15mins how the hell do you deal with it.........how does this happen or is it a big job to do?
Would be great if you have an answer or even a vid.
@@Dang_Lin-Wang yeah looks like its in between the glass
Your units have failed.
What about when there is no beads...?
what if my unit doesn’t have any covers? mines just black
If you mean there are no beads? Check the outside, some older windows are externally beaded. You have to pull out the gasket from the inside, then the beads will loosen on the outside and you follow the same procedure as this video. Then just do it all in reverse to get the glass back in. Need a glazing spoon to get the gasket back in tho.
Top tip- open other window and push the unit from other side to get it out
