Great video Jamie! The thing that keeps me away from Sezane, particularly their sweaters, is their composition. If I’m shelling out that much for a sweater, there is no reason that it should have any plastic in it 🤷‍♀️

I work with a wealthy woman who owns a line of *suluxy* “luxury” handbags. Somewhere is real, somewhere is a replica, you honestly can't tell the difference. This is a woman who has enough money to buy anything she wants. I did see her buy a Mercedes and a Jaguar with cash because she didn't like the interest. She taught me how to mix and match, especially trendy bags, without spending $5,000 on something that will be out of style next year 🤷🏽♀

@@LorBeer-eq5yfwhy “ oh please? “ Sezane is charging a hefty sum for synthetic blend sweaters. Banana Republic ( which is not a luxury brand) is selling pure merino and pure cashmere for similar prices. Same with Quince.

    • @LorBeer-eq5yf
      @LorBeer-eq5yf Місяць тому +8

Some of the clothing in the alternatives you mentioned is also made of synthetic fibers, and the cuts are (in my opinion) rather unfashionable and very simple. Sézane also has sweaters, cardigans and coats made of 100% (merino) wool at a good price. Everyone can decide for themselves what they want to spend their money on. It's funny to condemn Sézane for using synthetic fibers. Demand will regulate it. I wouldn't buy anything made of polyester or acrylic because it offers no advantages. With polyamide, the sweater pills less and looks good for longer. I also like wearing knitwear from arket. They also have good prices for decent quality and the cuts are more fashionable.

Love Sézane and have many of their knits. Sizing can be fussy. I find most of their knits are oversized (except for the pieces that are clearly meant to be fitted) and look much better when you size down. I don’t mind the compositions w polyamide. 100% wool or cashmere, in a similar heavier knit weight at most retailers jumps into $3-400 price range. What I like about Sézane knits is the wide range of beautiful colors and timelessness of the styles. You just don’t see that range of colors at Reformation, COS, Aritzia, etc. I’ve had my Sézane knits for years and they have all held up really well.

I think your color might be some type of winter and therefore a cool tone and colors with high value. I noticed that when you wore clothes in your color palette (greys, blues, cool toned reds) you end up liking the outfit. But when you tried items not in your color palette like the warm-toned red, the lighter pink, and the warm beige/brown, you ended up liking them less. Just a thought.

Hi Jamie! First time commenting one of your videos :) I'm halfway through the review, but I can't justify that price tag for what I'm seeing! I highly recommend Comptoir des Cotonniers (I don't know if this brand ships to or exists in Canada), they sell each winter season 100% pure cashmere blend sweaters for less than half the price of Sezane if you get them on sale. I bought last year a cashmere sweater for about 90€ in blue which I absolutely LOVE and it's in perfect condition today after a couple washes. I'm considering buying another one because they are lovely, and they don't itch (something I hate). I just think Sezane is not worth the price...Love your videos 😘

Sure! I wash it by hand (not in the washmachine) with cold water and a neutral (very soft) bar soap, being just a little more persistant in places like the armpits or if there's a dirt spot. Then, I try to wring out the garment without twisting it, because this will make it lose its original shape and size. Be sure that almost every drop of water is gone. Lastly, I leave it horizontal on a flat surface (not hanging, because again, it will make the garment lose its shape) drying out preferably outside or somewhere it can dry naturally. From time to time you might have to remove the fluff & little balls from the garment, just like in every other wool sweater. Also, where I live (Madrid) Uniqlo has a Comptoir des Cotonniers corner where every winter sales season they have these wonderful sweaters. Uniqlo has also great wool pieces at an affordable price, like 40€ or so.

Hi Jamie, I'm new to your channel but I'm glad to see someone from Canada finally reviewing Sezane. I've been shopping from them for almost a decade but far less in recent yrs as the quality has significantly decreased while the prices have skyrocketed. Like you, I love the Emile but I also sized down (2 sizes!). I promise, you'll still get that oversized look if you go for a small. The blue Basile was GORGEOUS on you, but agreed, the sz small would be more flattering if you decide to re-order it.
Finally, I hope you don't mind me saying so, but you're definitely a summer colour palette ;)

I haven't tried their knitwear, though I have my eyes on the Sami Jumper which comes in a blend of merino wool and cotton. The Stacy Jumper is also calling me, but the composition makes me feel hesitant.
I own only a couple of their pieces. The two I love the most is the Chlo silk shirt in Bottle Green and the Farrow Bag in Natural Heritage.
P.S. The sound was fine. You're so sweet to worry, but honestly there was nothing to worry about. :)

You didn’t try a single piece of their merino wool knitwear?? It is their best knitwear! It is soft but not itchy at all and merino is not as delicate as mohair or alpaca. The merino/cotton blend knit is also great for Autumn/Spring or if you live somewhere that doesn’t get really cold. Betty, Jacob, Lyna, Louis, Maha, Sami, Paulo, Adel, Camilla, Arielle, Valerio, Agathe, Auguste, Eleanor, Charly, Hayley are all either Merino or Merino cotton blend sweaters or cardigans. Leontine, Gary, Daisy, Ruben, Capucine are all 100% cotton for anyone interested. ❤

Always love a Sezane video as I'm newly obsessed as well! I went to the store recently in Paris and the prices were so much cheaper, so it's hard to spend more ordering online from the USA. I bought a Betty Cardigan ($120 Euro, vs $170 on USA website) at the store in a size small and wish I got a medium because after hand washing it shrank a bit. I was able to stretch it back out mostly, and i think I hand washed it too warm. But, just be aware that if a sweater fits "just right" it might not after washing. Also, i'm super sensitive to itch and the merino wool does not bother me. I also got a scarf in the virgin wool, it's so soft and i'm obsessed. I would like to order more wool sweaters, but avoid the mohair because they just aren't comfortable on my skin.

The Emile in particular is very bad this year compared to the older ones I have, it sheds a lot and my old ones do not, doesn't keep the shape as well....etc.
I bought a skirt this year that I thought was silk and it was 120€ polyester??? that is insane to me. I still check it once in a while and I might buy a sweater here and there, but it's not my ride or die anymore.

At that price you can get a luxury high-quality 100% cashmere sweater specially during Black Friday and end of season sales after Christmas. @leoniep9231 Місяць тому +4

I don't think it's snobbish at all... Plastic content in garments always retain odor, and the bit about structural integrity always seems like a bad excuse by the brands for not using better quality yarn with longer fibers.

You don't sound snobbish at all. I have eczema and the only sweaters I can wear are those made of cotton, linen, silk, or alpaca. I would pay more for the same cardigan if it was was 100% alpaca or an alpaca/cotton or alpaca/silk blend. The nylon makes this cardigan an immediate no for me, especially since people without eczema complain that it's slightly itchy, which means it would be unbeareably itchy on me.

I have pretty sensitive skin, used to have dermographism, and one of my rules is it has to be zero itchy (and I know I’m more sensitive than average because even if it has 1-2% wool it bothers me). I'm only halfway through the video but I agree, I bought the Gaspard cardigan after thinking about it for sooo long and being so disappointed by how itchy it was! I ended up selling mine and saw that there were so many for sale on Vinted too. I just recently visited their Paris store and tried on some gorgeous trousers, but still, really itchy and they didn't have any lining, which feels wrong when the price is so high... so thank you for your review!

I have 3 of the Amiel Jumpers and they are so incredibly warm and versatile. They are costly, but I justify the price bc I wear them just about every day and they really do an amazing job with insulating heat which is a must during Chicago winters. I have one of their turtlenecks and find that one to be a bit too itchy and don’t wear it.

Gaspard is a bit itchy but it becomes softer after one wash. Also, the label is off center because you can wear it both ways. I prefer having buttons on the back. I have the identical one in the same color that I bought a year ago but I have no idea why you are saying that they are true to size, they are NOT! They run one size large. I am always size Small but my Gaspard is size XS and is still little too baggy. Size small is ginormous.

By the way you're definitely an autumn, You're warm tone so you could only be spring or autumn and Autumn is more rich colors in spring is bright. I agree with you about the pink downsized would be perfect. I don't think I could wear any of them cuz my skin is so sensitive and I was allergic to an angora sweater that I tried once my eyes were red the entire time I wore it. I love to the green on you and the blue as well but the pink looked super great but downsizing it was a good idea. For some reason it laid a little bulkier then the gray it seemed a little stiffer.

Pretty sure if they had to pay for them they wouldn't say the same thing. You should try the Betty (100% Merino wool) and the Leontine (100% organic cotton), or the Camilla (about half-half Merino wool and cotton with a little
Polyamide). They are fantastic and in mainly natural and non itchy fabrics. I love the red Gaspard but unfortunately I cannot wear mohair or in some cases (depending on the fibers) Alpaca.

I feel like Sezane's strengths (IMO) are their dresses and blouses. The knitwear (IME) is very boxy and itchy, largely due to the mohair. I haven't found a flattering sweater from them, which makes me sad because they look so divine online. I have a ton of their dresses and blouses though, and they fit just... *chefs kiss*

I accidentally came across your video. Very interesting!
I make my own sweaters so I can tell you that if I would make any of the sweaters/cardigans that you tried on it would take me 1-3months /sweater of at least 3h/day and the yarn itself would cost a LOT more that what you are paying. I would use yarn that has less acrylic/ polyester (just because yarn has a different mix) .
They use that combo of fibre to make sure the sweater keeps its shape for longer as 100% wool/mohair/alpaca is not stable for very long on a hanger (in the store) or will lose shape in a few days of wear. I have a sweater in 100% wool that gets those inaesthetic elbows in a few hours of wear.
100% alpaca will stretch from a crop top to a dress just if you pick it up the wrong way when it's wet. Also they (the store) want to make sure that it lasts you a few "accidental" washes in the machine or just rough handling. They would need to be hand washed anyway right...right?? I didn't know that before I got into knitting but now I know (don't ask). Use wool wash (Soak or Eucalan found at yarn stores) that you don't have to rinse, spin in machine for 10seconds and lay flat to dry. It should be stored folded, not hanged and watch for moths.
    Itch factor:
    - wool will itch on bare skin. Most merino is softer on bare skin , but all wool will itch if you overheat in it.
    - mohair will itch on some people. kid mohair is more gentle.
    - alpaca should not itch on its own
Sorry for the lengthy comment. :)

The only tip I have for sezane ist going for their 100% cotton knitwear. They can be definitely beautiful. But also check secondhand first. There are thousands of them on secondhand sites and you can save a lot of money. But I agree with a lot of other comments sezane used to be so much better in quality. It used to be much less fast fashioney

Hi Jamie, the tag is indeed off-centered because the Gaspard can be worn reversible as well. Tbh I don't feel it itchy at all, and it's the most worn piece of my wardrobe. I'm sorry you pay so much for it in Canada and the US - here it's only 95 euros, so super worth it. but ofc I understand your point of it being less refined than others. it's more minimalistic and versatile.

Last winter I went into a Sezane store and tried on nearly every Sweater in the store and found almost all of them to be itchy-some worse than others. The only 2 which I own and love are the Leontine which is 100% cotton and the Betty which is 100% Merino wool. I feel their knitwear is really over-rated. I think there are a lot of other brands that make better knitwear in the same price point. I just don’t get the appeal so I am not surprised by your review. Glad you found a few good ones though.
