Without a doubt, a navy blazer or navy jacket otherwise should hang in every well-dressed gentleman's closet. It's seasonless, versatile, and pairs with almost every other color in your wardrobe.
We ordered 18 different jackets from nine different retailers to compare their offerings and see which one was best and we actually paid for all these jackets with our own money. So this video comes to you 100% and unsponsored. It's just our opinion and the brand and the blazers.

As a preppy guy with not a lot of scratch until I get this first finance job, this is a gold mine! I also like this new 'fireside chat' style of videos you've got going on lately. Keep up the good work gents!
I would like to see a round up review of different online MTM suits. This concept is realy fun.
MTM shirts as well please
@@Johntomlawer Oh yeah.
have you seen the round up MTM videos from theKavalier? They are very Informative.
@@justusanders242 Yep. I watch his videos. Nevertheless I want to see something like that from GG.
Is it just me or do you comment on every Hugo Jacomet video
that moment when Sven is so angry and give 0 star with a beep
I believe that the navy blazer is one of the most versatile garments every gentleman must own. It could be dressed up or down and could be paired with almost anything and was even the signature of stylish men like the late Sir Roger Moore. Thanks for making this helpful video for a very useful garment for a reasonable price
Preston reminds me of Marty McFly’s dad from Back to the Future.
The cool one!
Bro is blessed with a razor sharp gigachad jawline.
You need to do a video just on Spier and Mackay. The Neapolitan cut I have is amazing, especially for the money. shocked you missed this...
This is one of the best, most relevant vlogs you have recently dropped. Thanks for the good work
Yikes! Buying a new blazer for less than $500 nearly condemns you to poor quality fast-fashion brands! You make a great case for thrift shopping and vintage menswear if you seek enduring quality. Buy high-end second-hand clothing, find a reliable tailor, and take care of your clothes so they can last you a lifetime. The best clothing that will ever be made has already been made! This was another insightful video. It really helps us to avoid costly mistakes. Thanks!
Exactly
Hi Preston and Sven, I've been watching your UA-cam videos for many months now and I have to say I really like this new, experimental format - i.e. you two trying on and discussing pairs of shoes (as in the first video in this format) or blazers, as in this example, from a range of different suppliers; I'm sure I'm not the only one of your subscribers who enjoys this style and would like to see more in this vein. Keep 'em coming!
I am so glad that GG cover such a wide variety of topics and each video is perfectly paced and thorough.
I like the longer videos and especially when you do them together. After watching this it has come clear to me that second hand is superior.
Disappointed you didn't purchase from Spier and Mackay, CT, and TM Lewin. Would like to know what your search criteria was, that you excluded these retailers?
I know he’s doing a CT video soon. Slightly off topic when I think blazer I think metal buttons. Doesn’t have to be super shiny and bright buttons. But without them isn’t it just an odd menu jacket and not a navy blazer?
This is probably based on mall availability. I don't know about you, but there are no CT or TM Lewin stores near where I live, and Spier & Mackay only has physical locations in Canada. For all these other brands, I can find them at my local mall
CT is not worth the effort for blazers.
Love these videos where you review different brands. Keep during more.
I almost paid near to $1000 for a killer navy double-breasted from a noted outlet but held off because of the cost. Luckily I did because, at the end of the year, that outlet had a sale and got one of the last two remaining for a fraction of the price. When I asked why so cheap? He told me they sold out that line and wanted the last two gone. My tailor corrected a few things, and now it's one of my most favourite garments.
Really useful video. Great. One suggestion: You should make a video about best quality umbrellas, and compare them to the cheaper ones.
THANK YOU!! Style with a budget videos is just what I need!
I got into your videos earlier, but then tuned out as everything was too expensive. So this is perfect.
Please do this with Chinos and smart/casual boots. :)
A very rich content & full of details, you guys did a very remarkable job and efforts. Blazers are my favorite style & I learned a lot from you. Thank you so much ❤️
Excellent video gentlemen. Always appreciate your efforts to review less than bespoke clothing, shoes and style. Thank you
Definitely include Spier & Mackay in the future!
My navy blazers have traditionally been the Ralph Lauren navy blazer but, about 14 years ago I was infatuated with the Hickey Freeman navy blazer and I have not looked back. I rock my blazer with a variety of styles.... from my chinos to my denim but certainly more traditional my dress trousers such as my gabardine to worsted wool.
I love these videos a lot. It’s great to see your opinions. I’m a more muscular guy and 6ft 4 and suitsupply works beautifully for me, but I size 2 sizes up. For Sven, I believe he would have liked it much more had he sized up. Have you guys thought about accounting for brands that are just generally smaller, so it’s not as much of a hit on their score?
Bravo! Loved the format, very informative!
I really would have appreciated you guys including a spier & mackay jacket, considering they are at the same if not a lesser price range than Suitsupply and still of better overall quality. Otherwise very enlightening and high quality video.
We can cover them in the future. It's difficult to get every brand out there in one video, without creating a monster project...
Spier & Mackay offers a full canvass blazer with handwork like Milanese buttonhole for under $500. I think it blows everything out of the water here. Not even close.
AWESOME that this video is unsponsored.
Entertaining, informative and well produced. Well done fellows.
Thank You! Really great job reviewing these jackets!
This is a fascinating comparison. Thank you for making it!
I like the way Preston sits in this video. Very classic.
Nice video guys! Now that I know your sizes, I will look out for great jackets for you both when thrift store shopping! Thanks as always, Lisa
Best navy blazer under 500$: Spier and Mackay - neapolitan cut, period.
YES
Absolutely
100%
They're pretty limited on sizing in my opinion. They look good though.
for sure!
I love the longer videos, I'm still watching
Ah, I wish you picked up a Spier and Mackay blazer!
Agreed
I'm curious to hear their thoughts on Spier & MacKay's sports coats & blazers.
I have one & I absolutely adore it. The one thing I must mention is that it is best to buy their 'contemporary fit' rather than their slim fit if you were even considering it.
I find the build quality to be nice: the stitch density is high, the button-holes are cut then stitched, the lapel roll is good, and the fabrics are durable and interesting.
Personally, I rather enjoy Spier & MacKay because of their wide range of fabrics, patterns, 3-roll-3 lapels, and the fact they have 3.5" all the way to ~4" lapels!
Great to see that you are prepared to put your money where your mouth is. I found that it was particularly interesting and most importantly useful, because most of the brand's covered are available in Melbourne and Sydney Australia. But what was really useful, because I am evaluating Offshore, Online, purchase was the time you both spent explaining in great detail how the rated size varied between brands. It lifted the quality of presentation for Men's Fashion channels on UA-cam. Thank you, Phil.
Excellent service you provide gentlemen
Great honest review! Thanks!
Thank you so very much for making this video
I really appreciate that you guys put subtitles on your videos, honestly i have a hard time understanding Sven sometimes due to his german accent.
I had low expectations for this video, but wow it was great 👍 good job
Great content Gentlemen...THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for making this type of video
Because these are brands that most guys are mostly know about. In your other videos you talk about different brands which most guys don't know about or they don't ship to the US.
Hope you look at Spier & Mackay's MTM program in your roundup. They have great styling, and I'd be interested to know if their quality matches.
Great video guys!
Amazing video guys Rafael and Preston are great
Great concept guys
Great job guys! Thanks
Love the content!!! Would love to see you guys review something from Pini Parma 👌
I think Pini Parma would come in just over the $500 mark, however they’re truly fantastic for the price.
amazing video. thank you very much
Great video as always. This year I was thinking of having a change from Navy and choosing one of the boldly striped summer blazers. Any advice?
Great roundup, danke!
Would have loved to see Spier McKay make the cut
I bought my Uniqlo Navy Blazer few years ago, and I brought it to my firend who run a bespoke tailor business. He fixed the fit for me.
My favorite Blazer I ever had until I gained a lot of weight and had to get rid of it, was a Stafford one. It was 250 when I bought it and fit so well, knowing what I know now about menswear I would have only needed to make slight adjustment to it but it was so comfortable and fit very well on me.
The 500$ mark just doesn’t do brooks brothers justice. The true classic BB navy blazer is made in Italy or Massachusetts from VBC/Loro Piana wool, with gold metal buttons, a full canvas construction and they are just a godsend. But they do cost quite a bit more.
Excellent presentation, as always, but Preston's outfit is the best argument for owning a blazer!
Would love to see more of these
An extremely interesting and useful evaluation, as always...As a fellow 44R, if you're willing to look at the vintage/gently used market, there's an affordable, well fitting US-made blazer made under the Cross and Winsor brand (Winsor, not Windsor). They were pretty widely available through about 2001, and made a pretty high quality and nice fitting navy blue brass button blazer that can be found on the secondary market pretty readily. Avoid the foreign-made lines as they don't hang correctly for regularly-sized suits.
I think that putting so much emphasis on the fit is a bit unfair because that’s gonna vary for every person. I think the scores should have been based almost entirely on the quality and styling of the garment. For instance, I find it hard to believe that the Bonobos jackets had a lower score than the H&M jackets.
Very unfair. Especially given that neither of these guys are of an average body type
I have to defend them... Some of these jackets are unacceptable.
I disagree. The slim fit; sewn like dogshit; cut for midgets. Modern era jackets are judged on / by their fit, and aptly so.
no way the fit is crucial fit is number one
@@DaytonaStation I agree
Outstanding video.
Orvis jackets are gigantic. I was not surprised at all that you were swimming in it. I’m sure they get more returns than jackets actually kept.
Hello chaps, love the stuff!
I wanted to request an idea for a video similar to that really useful one you did on measuring the formality of suit styles, except as opposed to fabrics and colours you did a scale of the actual type of suit, so a lounge suit compared to black tie, white tie vs morning suit etc. . I think that'd be really interesting and handy.
No Spier and Mackay :(
Pini Parma blazer. Neapolitan cut, full canvas, Loro Piana four seasons 130's 260gr wool fabric, fully lined and made in Italy. Walker Slater and Boggi are brands worth considering also.
Great video! There are a lot more brands out there. I'm sure there's room for a round 2 video.
I've enjoyed Black Lapel's made-to-measure suits quite a lot. The shipping to Sweden is very difficult, but they have very great attention to detail and excellent customer service. I'd love a review from you!
Full canvas Spier & Mackay blazer sells for under $500. Clear winner. Blows everything out of the water here.
You should review Spier and Mackay!
Would love to see these brands as well;
-Cavour
-Spier & Mackay
-Boggi
-Pini Parma
-J. Crew
-Club Monaco
-Good Man Brand
I think the types of alterations should be factored into cost as well. For example, Suitsupply’s functioning buttons would cost more to alter than say a jacket from H&M.
Thanks for the review and hope to see more.
That's an awesome video!
I just *LOVE* navy blue jackets, it's a color that commands power!
But do you have any guides on scarfs?
Note: Preston looks handsome as heck in this video, and the ascot is just spot on
Thanks! We've got plenty of scarf content; you can start here:

I have a Stafford (owned by JC Penney) blazer and I believe it’s a wool-poly mix if not it is likely full wool. For me it is a perfect blazer as the color is great and the styling is great, and the buttons are shank buttons in gold tone with a crest that has S for stafford which also works for my last name Saavedra. though I do need to get it tailored, it fits fairly well for a thrifted jacket
Great and interesting video
The saying holds true, You get what you pay for.
Great video gentlemen
I love this channel
I'd give this video 5/5 stars
❤the best guys !
I enjoyed this video it had great content and I found very interesting navy is my favourite colour (uk spelling) let’s have more videos like this. Thank you for making it 👍
I finally bit the bullet and bought a Calvin Klein suit jacket. For my build, it fits very well off the rack.
I’m an athletic guy, 42” chest, 32” waist so off the rack rarely worked for me. You have to try on a bunch of brands and see what fits your build, and spend a little more to get 100% wool.
Thanks gents.
I enjoyed the video. I love my Brooks Brothers blazer. I also owner tow HS&M blazers. What is your take on HS&M? They are my favorite OTR manufacturer. And, the outfits are made in the USA.
My best blazer (the one i like most) is a navy blue Burton of London, double breasted, peak lapels with brass buttons. Inherited, price zero. Absolutely superb. Found on a tiny tuny label also Made in Romania. Never knew quite a few things are manufactured here.
Thanks two classy people 👍✌️
This format should be it`s own series, starting with this video
I would recommend Anderson Little if you’re looking for an American Made option. Furthermore, they not only fall into the under $500 price range, but the under $200 as well.
I've heard a lot of good stuff about Spier and Mackay, I would be great that you guys do a review on them on the future.
I'm waiting for my first suit from them to be delivered, which I payed less then 200$ for.
This is an expensive episode! Love it!
Great video, I would love to see a comparison of high end jackets. Either $500 and up or $1000 and up. Who's really worth it?
I'd love to see you order those "Full suits" off eBay. I'd love to see how well they stand up to the product images, I've heard mixed reviews from people but never any actual product pictures.
I love your videos! Any chance that you gentlemen would do one on how the ladies should get a quality suit at a fair price? It is galling to me that clothing designers pump out tons of cheap dresses and pants for women but rarely a decent suit or blazer.
I don't know your name, but the gentleman on the right's (edit: Raphael's) outfit is so nice. People say it's hard to match black, but he put it together well with the khakis and shirt/tie combination. The pocket square was the cherry on top.
I now, after seeing this, consider myself extremely lucky. I found a single breasted, wool-cashmere navy blazer with pewter buttons, flap pockets (with a coin pocket inside), with nicely wide notched lapels with pick stitching, small armhole and with a bit of padding in the shoulder, for the measly price of £4 in a charity shop. It had no vents, which I found a bit different, but it was nice.
Probably not in the US, but there is a German brand called Anton Mayer that has amazing quality at affordable prices. I’d say a suit is about 400€ give or take. Quality fabrics like Vitale Barberis Canonico and others, traditional lapels and cut, but they also carry some fashion fabrics like linen or sear suckers that you wouldn’t find in department stores. I only shop there.
This is frankly amazing 🎩💐
Got mine for free from my grandfather's closet. Perfect fit and vintage.
I have used italiors fir mtm. I think they are very good but I would like your opinion on them.
Oddly, in my experience, suit supply runs a little big. I typically wear a 40R, and I ordered a slim fit double-breasted suit which was too long and wide at the chest. If you find that you're between sizes like me, I'd recommend going with your lower size in a regular fit (sienna or napoli fits). Also their pants run super long, be ready for tailoring.
My wife and I literally laughed out loud at your Topman commentary. 😂
I would love to hear the gang's opinions on Universal Works' clothing, they sell some trousers and sport coats that I like the look of quite a bit. I own some of their trousers but am eyeing a jacket of theirs.
Suitsupply & Tiger of Sweden
Never fails 💪🏽😁
Im in The lucky bracket. Off The rack fits me Really nicely.
Mostly sleevelength needs shortening hehe
Tiger of Sweden is an absolute garbage fashion brand IMO.
@@petterniklasson2547 they have such a huge arsenal, so it wouldnt surprize me if they also produce fashion forward stuff x)
Im reffering to Their highend products 😁
I'd love to see a series on Preston getting a bespoke suit !
I found a 6 on 2 botton Navy Blazer from Burberry London in a thrift shop in Germany for only 19 Euro.
I couldnt Left this piece in the Shop and After the tailor fit it to my Body Type i really Enjoy the Blazer to wear
Haha in my Eastern European country for 150$-200$ you ll ge a full mtm/bespoke (the suits are made from standard patterns but if you re too pretentious and want a specific style the tailor will draw your suit by hand from scratch with no extra charge, the only downside being that you have to explain to him every specific detail you can t just tell him "make me a 1920 s style suit".) made with 100% wool fabrics of course.
the Eastern European country without name...
The orvis blazer for me was the best
I like that cut.
