👆 What do you prefer, an SG or a Les Paul?
One that stays in tune
That would be the SG. All the SG’s I have had have stayed in tune very well, vs every Les Paul that I’ve had constantly needing to be tuned. I still have a LP and enjoy it but my SG’s are where it’s at
@@jcwoodstlI have an at tribute and my g string ONLY THE G STRING goes down half a step to F# all of the time 😂
@@HimiJendrix-xk6bvopen up the nut slot a little bit. The string is getting stuck when you bend and can’t return to where it started. Don’t go crazy with it. A little goes a long way
@@jcwoodstl thanks man, this helped a lot
I got 3 SG’s and a Les paul, they all stay in tune pretty good even on stage
I dont hear much diff - SG slightly thinner sounding. Both are rock and roll machines. Get both!
Interesting, since it's ALSO a THINNER instrument! SG for smaller guys who can't handle a GIRTHY HEAVY LP...
@@StreetPreacherrtad homoerotic but I respect it
@@StreetPreacherrI’m a big guy who can handle all the girth I can get but I actually prefer the SG coming from a perspective of production/audio engineering because it has less low mids which gives more space in the mix for bass, percussion, and keys.
@@StreetPreacherrI'm a gigging musician. Nothing cuts through a mix like an SG through a cooking value amp.
You’re kidding, right? 😅
SGs have like a quackiness to them I love, idk how else to describe it haha
I think that is the correct term!
Yup its more mid range focused, makes it sound kinda honky but fits in very well in a band setting without making a lot of EQ modifications
Both are great, but the LP takes it with that extra midrange thud. Love that.
Yep,..The Lesters usually have a certain bossy type of tone to them..Some more than others.
@wendigo.93 Well your down 13 to nothing...😆🖕
@wendigo.93Yeah, impossible to tell the difference in a blind test. It's all psychological!
@@elsharkioit's really difficult in the bridge pickup for a blindfolded listener, but the neck pickup and in-between tones are completely different.
And so do are the vibe and feel playing them: balance, attack, vibration...
Different animals.
It depends most on what you’re listening on. I can def hear the difference on my monitors.
I’ve always been a fan of SG’s. Even though so many have been sold and so many have been played by some of the very best artists around the world, I STILL think the guitar is underrated.
The SG is to the Les Paul what the Stratocaster is to the Telecaster. And they’re all wonderful guitars. ❤
Perfectly stated
The SG sounds “thinner” than the Les Paul but both are amazing. Thank you for making these vids. I love watching them.
Not thinner, brighter (more high frequencies).
@@marike1100 LP has more high frequencies, but SG has less low frequencies
Pete's SG with the P-90's! They were at their peak then - Rolling Stones Circus!!
Yes - Pete's late 60s-early 70s playing on the SG was a stand out moment in the history of this guitar. Angus Young is another name which further grew the legend of this instrument.
I’d take both, they definitely have different tones and well that is great to have when recording.
Visually I like both. With same electronics they sound almost identical but neck pickup on les Paul is a tad mellower than on sg, because it's placed a little closer to the nut.
I like the sg better because it's lighter, and easier to play on the upper frets.
How can it be closer? Same length neck and both neck pick-ups butt up against the neck, so, unless the pick-up rings are different sizes, they're both exactly the same distance from the nut.
They’re both my favourite but I love the Les Paul the most
SG will always be the best electric guitar ever build
I think the Tele would have something to say about that.
lol until you try to play it with a strap
@@gutsfiend6678 Neck dive!
@@uttherkunst3806 no
@@kkccentral4663 I see your no and counter with a yes
Sg has a lot more bite. Lp has more body and bass to the tone
Hi, I'm the happy owner of both Gibsons: SG Standard CME in shell pink with T-Type pickups and Les Paul Standard '60s in Iced Tea with '60s Burstbucker Alnico V pickups, both purchased at Andertons! And they both rock!!! Greets from Poland... 🤘
Like both but the body of the SG is so much better to handle
Neck dive enters the chat
@@DustinDollinsShinBonedo you play one handed?
@@DustinDollinsShinBone 61 reissue does not dive. Only standards with baseball bat neck.
There are ways of preventing neck dive Bruce, but using your fretting hand (to stop it) is not one of them.
I prefer the SG in every way except for the looks. A clear sound with just the right amount of thickness, a feather-light weight, and a contoured fit. Neck dives can be easily solved in many ways. I love the SG. But the Les Paul looks gorgeous and beautiful. Ah, except for the Modern Series.
Simply both
I was a les paul lover but nowadays... I'm trying SG and I fall in love with it
It's OK to love both.
If i get a Gibson someday, it'll be an SG with P-90s. Though I'd probably get like a Mustang with P-90s instead.
Dang, now I want a Mustang with P-90s.
In this example: SG for sound, LP for looks.
the les paul has a slightly fuller sound possibly the difference of thickness of bodys providing they are the same pick ups and wiring 🤔🤔
SG all day. lite, great fret access, sounds awesome, whats not to love?
Neck dive
@@tomasz3122 What if you sit down and play? Is that still a problem?
@@JoonKimDMD No, neck dive is only a problem when you have guitar on strap.
I'm a strat guy but if I had to choose, I would go with the SG because of the higher frets access
Strats are fkin awful
Les Paul all the day up! What a consistent sound
The SG will always have my heart cause I’m an avid fan of sabbath and AC/DC but holy the gravel on that Les Paul in INSANE, Gibson makes some quality instruments
i love both, but i am partial to SGs. love the way they feel and play.
Love them, but my fav is fender strats❤
The SG sounder more full, while the Lea Paul sounded thin and lacked low frequency clarity
Les Paul. It’s a tone machine.
The LP is Gibsons answer to Fenders Telecaster.
Both are versatiöe soundmachines 👍
Basically the same guitar, except one looks cool and the other is the Les Paul.
Nice.
they both Rock.... but the Les paul is my Fav.
both they look really cool and I would love to have a Les Paul one day I have an SG
335 Is my personal favorite!
Les Paul for sure but I love SGs too
depends on the mood!
Both are awesome.
Great amp - whatever it is!
I thought the Strat. had a fuller sound but the Tele. really chimed away.
Cant play ,but ive got em both! Guitars are an addiction ...
An honest soul you are!
@@kurtweiand7086 more like a stupid soul, there are instruments, not collection items.
Which ever inspires me
ESTHETICALLY I'VE ALWAYS BEEN INTO LES PAULS, I SAID IT THAT WAY BECAUSE I PLAY DRMS SO IT COMES DOWN TO LOOKS FOR ME .✌️🥁😎
SG. I respect my spine
The colour of the les paul standard is so gorgeous!!
Bourbon or iced tea burst?
Probably got yhe same humbuckers, just different years, I do like the sunburst sound !!78
BOTH !
Amen
The arched-top guitar is special to me.
Which one do I prefer? Why yes, yes I do.
Both sounds similar, basically it's the body you prefer . SG felt just a little more chunkier...!!!
I like both, so I bought both!
Based on this video, the SG wins by a country mile!!! Great big sound. Not at all what I expected to hear. Thanks for the vid.
I'm an SG player, I must admit that the Les Paul is better on this amp set up, but: on the neck pick-up SG's are better, and it's easier to combine both pick-up, and live, SG's cut more through the mix.
Love 'em both, but I own an SG. Should say it all :D
Same pickups in both guitars, I think so not much of a difference, but if they are the same pickups. I think it's a good example of how the body affects the sound of each guitar.
Both are great, but I prefer the thicker sound of the Paul. If I want the SG sound, I can eq the Paul.
I like the LP.
Biased towards the LP. Absolutely in love with my 2016 Studio. Never played an SG, though! I’m sure there’s lots to love about it
I know I don't prefer that distortion setting. Vox has a great one called the "Satchurator" that turns Gibsons into Godzillas.
great toan
Sg for sound, LP for looks
SG because it has more a little bit more high-end clarity to the tone.
the in-tune one... what's it called??? Aaaaah Strat or Tele. Just Joking... Both sound Great. I don't like SGs playwise but it sounds "better" to my ears
Les Paul all day long but love the sound of the SG
For practicality I prefer SG, tho I don't have one. But damn, Les Pauls are so beautiful even if they're so impractical.
Have both :-)
The amp is really the main factor
I prefer the fullness of the Les Paul.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m of the impression that the 60’s standard LP uses Burstbucker 61s, the same as the SG.
That being said; I’ll take the Les Paul every time. It’s a feel thing, and the looks don’t hurt.
I am an sg guy. They are light and the Easiest guitar to play.
Never owned or spent much time playing either but I feel more drawn to SGs
The both work equally for me ....
SG wins in both style and comfort, but I honestly really like both.
They sound remarkably comparable! I’ve never noticed how marginal the difference is honestly
SG, it doesn't come with the Les Paul's ability to make your shoulder go numb
I love both but...I would pick the SG.
I just played these last week at my local guitar shop. The sound much more different when you are in the room. I do prefer a Les Paul with P90s… if I had to chose between these two the LP because it doesnt have that awful vibrato…
I prefer the Strat. 😊
I love and have them both, but sonically prefer the LP here. May be a pup thing if they're different?
NO! Which one do YOU prefer?
Both!
I am a Les Paul guy to play and an SG to listen to. Angus for life.
I have an SG as my no:1 but wuldn't mind having a les paul Standard
Gibson without any doubt. It’s darker sound!
Interesting, I was thinking I will prefer the LP but I didnt I think it sounded muddy compared to the SG.
I got both 🤙🏻
These particular two, through this particular rig? Thr Les Paul. But generally the other one. 😁
As a li'l kid... An electric guitar was an SG...I had no idea what it was or who made it but I seem to recall seeing those more than any other so they stuck.and i wanted one.... Over the years I lost my appreciation for them until recently.. to me they both sound great just different enough to of course justify the need to have both 😊
Think the SG's intonation is more accurate. Nut placement is critical...
easier to solo on the SG. the high frets arent annoying to solo on
In a mix, couldn't tell the difference lol. Personally, love the look of an SG. However, being an owner of the exact same model SG as in the video, I would 1,000% prefer the Les Paul.
I mean I think the Les Paul looks a lot cooler. More classy and less metal. Makes me think of stone gossard or Dean DeLeo. But the SG does have a certain kind of flare. Jake kiska certainly rocks it well
Real question is which weight do you prefer hanging on your shoulders
They literally sound the same, but I was listening with my ears and not my eyes.
I've never been able to get over my aversion to the looks of the SG. Which is unfortunate because they look, sound, and play great (when set up right).
So, you have an aversion to how an SG looks, because they look great? Are you sure you know what the phrase "my aversion to the looks," means?
@@castleanthrax1833 ya, my point was that I don't LIKE how they look. That doesn't mean I think it's an ugly guitar. It just means that I don't like how it looks. But I understand that my comment reads weird.
SG for leaders, LP for followers
Both...SG a little more tight, fast and aggressive in a good way
My back prefers the SG....my eyes prefer the Les Paul...so I compromised and bought a Casino...easy on the back and easy on the eyes!
SG all day till Sunday
I think SG has a rougher sound and Les Paul has a thicker sound.
Like comparing oranges to oranges
Go to the neck pickup and it's apples to oranges.
The answer is Yes.
Les Paul hands down!!! One can do it all and the other used to be a les Paul til it was demoted to just an SG because it’s not worthy
