Before retirement I sold RV’s for several years and I assure you that November and December are the BEST time of the year to buy- if the dealer has what you want and you experience a cold winter. Sales in those 2 months are drastically down and their year is ending so they will take almost any offer. Our location in Colorado would sell 100-125 units monthly during spring/summer and 20-30 in November/December. January starts show season, new models and higher base prices from all the new stuff being added to the new year models.

I just bought a Class B used. Was able to take my mom out for 5 nights camping after having her on lockdown since March. We use our class B to go do take out and eat right there at the restaurants. I’m using the van to sleep in since college plans for my child changed due to Covid. It’s given us some safe freedom to travel. I’m sure I paid a little higher than what will be the case once Covid ends, but there really seems no end in sight at this time. Being on lockdown is stressful, I feel the investment I’ve made is worth it as this will be a new normal for awhile. And if you have family who are in the higher risk category; this is a great way to travel safely with them. My mom doesn’t need to set foot in a public restroom or store and most of her contact with new people is outdoor and socially distanced thanks to the van. So, for me and my family buying now was the perfect time and we are using our van to the fullest.

Thanks a lot for the tips! I've never imagined that the prices of both brand new and used

just have to wait for the right time to purchase.

I disagree to a point and that point being...most new rv's that sell depreciate so hard that most people are upside down so bad when they try to unload it, they can't sell it for a good price.

      @endofsociety 4 роки тому +9

Haylett Rv is already selling slightly used 2020’s and used 1-3 yr old rvs. Most of the time it’s because the owners don’t have time or are done camping.

We've casually started looking. We had a 5th wheel we had to sell due to health challenges, but are ready to get back in. I'm really hoping next spring will see a market adjustment and that dealers/folks will be trying to unload excess/unwanted inventory.

I’m one of those people!!! Lol!!! Just bought a 2021 Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S last week!!!! Paid 26K for it, had to drive 15 hrs to get it!!! Was on the dealer lot for less than 24 hrs, bought it after I was sent the photos!!! I don’t regret it one bit!!! I did research this for many months/years, I do understand that under another time period I would had paid less, but no regrets so far. We are on the first trip with it in Maine. Needless to say Everything was fully booked for the Labor Day weekend, but found an amazing spot for a reasonable price. Inventories are beyond low, anything “special” or sought after is impossible to get until at least November!!! Do your research and maybe wait till Winter early Spring!!! We jumped the gun but are extremely happy that we did!!!

Our Mini-Lite 2509S goes into (hopefully) production next week. The dealer will get it 2 weeks afterwards and the dealer will spend a few days inspecting the coach. Delivery on 10/23. We put the order in mid-July after we sold our 10yr old pop-up. Now they are bring shipped as 2021.5 models. Depending on what is on your 2509S, I was getting quotes in July for 28K and 30K, so 26K not a bad deal. We went Rockwood (Forest River) because we have friends that have a Rockwood going on 12yrs old now. My brother-in-law bought their camper 2-3 yrs ago (not a Forest River trailer). Last year had an issue with a slide motor, an electrical issue, and a couple months ago an issue with the roof. I don't believe quality is going to go down right now. If the manufacture has high quality standards, they will continue those high quality standards. We loved the 2509S when we first saw it. Perfect size (can fit in smaller sites my in-laws 35ft trailer can't), has everything we wanted to plan longer trips we couldn't do in the pop-up comfortably (and we did week long trips in the pop-up, a high wall unit 25ft extended). 4 more weeks figures crossed.

Absolutely great points you guys have brought to the table. Renee and I have noticed a lot RV'ers out on the road and we correlate it to the fact that a lot of people are not traveling internationally. Definitely causing a spike in RV living within the states. We are blown away that an RV park is charging an extra fee for kids!? Hello, I have been wanting to move & down size. Turning 65, with 3 dogs, I have been looking at my options for over a year!.. Reading, and Reading, to figure which way to go! Then all of this “pandemic” stuff hit! OMG!.. like you said, I have been watching the craziest things happen with the escalation of all the RVing going on!... I just recently went camping with friends, we totally as you had mentioned, lucked out and got the last spot in a camp ground, with only electrical “offered”..even though it had the dump available it was capped off. (Have no idea why)..so had to tow to dump site halfway threw our camping time, for dumping..not to convenient. I think you’re spot on with your advice! I am kinda even reluctant on even buying the ones that will come on the market in a couple years or year, from those that are tired of RVing, after thinking of what you said about just basically slapping them together, (basically)..you know what I mean... what are your thoughts on that??..would you wait... till it slows way down..... any advice??.. Luckily..I am not in a super rush.. I totally get where people are coming from... with everything going on.. but, am amazed at how many RV’s I’ve seen just around my place.... and they just are sitting going no where... kinda sad... anyway, Great advice! Appreciate your updates and honesty!

We started RVing 5 years ago, it is so different now. We used to be able to take off on a Friday evening after work, drive 45 mins to an hour away with no reservations and pull in a spot. Every year it has gotten harder and harder to do that. This year, forget about it! A couple times this year I have arrived at a campground that used to be pretty open, I arrived on a Wednesday just after lunch and there was only one site available. I noticed the rest of the week and weekend any campsite never stayed open for more than 20 mins. It had gotten to be almost too stressful and not fun this year. We used to go every other weekend, now it's every couple of months.
You do see a lot of the paper temp plates where people just bought a new RV or trailer and you can tell from the way the trailer is hooked to the truck these people clearly are new and don't know about weights and limitations, pretty dangerous in some situations.

We're newbies closing in on retirement, who started doing research last year, and started shopping in January 2020. We couldn't come to a decision on which of the 8 or so models we were interested in, so we decided to take a break. I happen to go online in April to see if I could find one of the models we had not been able to see in person, and found one about an hour away. We went to see it, fell in love, and a few days later signed the papers. Luckily this was a 2020 model, (Keystone Ultra Lite 260UML) built before CoVid hit, and have only had a couple of minor cosmetic issues that we fixed ourselves. We've also seen on various FB RV groups, the issues people are having, and feel so lucky we bought when we did!!

I do not have an RV but have been an avid UA-cam follower of a number of RV UA-camrs. It's pretty clear to me that RVing (FT Boondockers are a different breed) is expensive and requires a lot more work than just getting in the car, driving someplace, and getting a hotel. I don't look at RVing as being less expensive at all. I think some people will grossly underestimate the cost and planning required to RV. My timeline is more in the next 2-3 years when prices stabilize. I appreciate the post - you did a great job of identifying a topic no one is talking about. Nice job!

This is also happening with all vehicles, firearms and ammunition. I'm a firearms instructor, I would not buy a gun or ammo now. I also wouldn't buy any vehicle now. I get trolls trespassing on my apartment complex leaving notes on my 10 year old Jeep offering to buy it. C-19 has really shown what supply and demand economics is all about. If you're thinking about selling something that's greatly appreciated in value because of C-19 ask yourself this, "What am I going to replace it with if it's an item I require to live?" I get people e-mailing and calling me all the time about how to get a gun. I tell them they missed the boat. The time to buy a gun and stock up on ammo was before disasters like C-19. Same thing with buying any vehicle. Best thing to do is to keep what you have and take care of it. Basic maintenance costs haven't changed. If the vehicle runs well and properly taken care of, ride it out then buy when the economic crash happens after C-19 is over with or it at least becomes endemic like the flu. Once C-19 is over with or at least becomes endemic and a nuisance like the flu the price of everything will go through the floor.

LOL It's never going to be "over". Today, we still catch the SAME virus that caused the Pandemic of 1918-1920; it's called the H1N1 virus, and we often get vaccinated for it (or a portion of it along with another virus) each flu season.
Heck, even the plague hasn't gone away, you just rarely hear about it anymore; a woman just came down with it recently in Tahoe around July 4th, and now there are signs up there all over the place where she was walking her dog and was bitten by fleas.
CoVid-19 is likely here to stay, only we will eventually develop a vaccine for it (within the next 4-10 years, hopefully sooner). The vaccine for H1N1 wasn't developed until 1940, I believe?
Right now, they're doing all this so that our healthcare centers around the globe don't collapse under the weight of everyone getting sick all at once and not having enough respirators and frontline employees (who also come down with this stuff) to take care of us.
SYNOPSIS: This is all about preventing the healthcare system from becoming overwhelmed by widespread community spread of the virus. CoVid-19 is here to stay, and it's going to mutate....and mutate again....and then that mutation will mutate. This is why we need a vaccine (and the vaccine doesn't prevent people from catching it, it just helps you SURVIVE IT when you do by making the symptoms less severe).

I know people who spend $10k per year for a vacation. So...$600 a month for an RV payment may not seem like a lot. It is not until they get it home and realize maintenance costs, insurance, travel costs etc.. and how much they are under water once they drove off the lot. Then the time it takes to maintain it. A $10K vacation takes a day to plan and the time to to take it. A RV is a commitment.

I would be concerned about buying a "Slightly used, Mostly stored" RV. The newbie that found out "it wasn't for them" may have had no clue on what to do with it.. Proper Black/Gray drains, wrong TP being used, Not setting the awning properly during a rain storm, leaving the roof vent open while in outside storage, etc, etc....

Normally agree with you but not this time. You’re looking at it mostly from a financial transaction. You could wait years until this pandemic is over and prices stabilize. You’ll probably pay a premium for used but you can still shop and get what you want. How much of the RV experience will you miss because you waited. New RV’s can be built and purchased at pre-pandemic levels. I agree with you on quality concerns. RV’s are complex by their nature and they are dependent on an extensive supplier network. This will probably break down at some point.

It’s all personal choice. If it was strictly financial no one would buy an RV. They are a terrible investment speaking from a financial view point. What we are trying to say is this is not the ideal time to buy and the reasons why. If someone watches the video and still buys an RV at least they have another view point outside an RV sales person. This RV buying splurge is directly the result of the forced COVID-19 shutdown and being quarantined for at least 2 weeks with family, whether sick or well. We don’t usually spend that much time with family, and now that things are opening up, people are going crazy to escape confinement!

Super glad we did, I am sure it still depreciated but much less then normal. I would say we saved 10-15%.
I also believe there will be several good used RVs next year and the big dip will happen in 2022. When the dust settles.

I too had a life changing event, now being a cancer survivor. We want to do some long term trips and see so many places. We don’t have to be at work on Monday morning. We just looked at a Class A. It is a 2022 Newmar Baystar 3609. But, the sales price doesn’t drop that much. Maybe 10%. Not sure of the discount percentage that we could EXPECT on a Newmar. Nothing wrong with our coach, other than not much storage for 2 people that want to travel longer distances for longer times. A month or two out at a time. We are aware of the economy surrounding the RV market. And, we can wait, but it’s about timing and time is good right now for upgrade…just the price is unknown. It appears that the curve may be shifting. I would really appreciate your thoughts.

You guys are right on the money. Wait a few months and the market will be flooded with RVs sold by countless people who had no idea of what they were getting into and thought it was a great idea to get an RV to travel during the coronavirus. There was a time when the best deals on relatively new used RVs were in Florida after the winter season. People bought them in many areas, drove to Florida and decided they didn’t want to drive their RV back and just wanted to sell it. You’re also the only folks that tell it like it really is. As experienced RVers, ourselves, we know you are damn right and damn honest.

No disrespect....but I don’t see how they are good mobile bunkers. A bunker is almost by definition stealthy, RVs stand out. Bunkers have thick walls or other measures that make them hard to open or shoot thru...RVs don’t. Bunkers are largely fire proof, RVs are not. Bunkers can’t be tipped over. I agree RVs are great emergency/natural disaster bug-out vehicles, and a better bunker than a car or motorcycle.

I've been binge watching UA-cam s over the past couple of weeks with people living mostly full time in all sorts of rigs. I've decided it's not for me. I'm not a mechanic, it's a lot of work, expensive, inconvenient and uncomfortable for what I am looking for - getting away into the open spaces. I've decided that since I don't need to do that full or even part time, but just once in awhile, I'll just drive my car and get a tent or bnb and maybe just sleep in my car on occasion. It's been really fun getting a peak into that lifestyle/world though, and I can sure see why people do it. I may pull together a little camp prep/cooking set up, though, to avoid restaurants.

All new, nothing pre-owned. And there was almost zero negotiating with them. I have been telling my wife it's best to wait. I was talking to the salesperson only an hour before we watched your video this evening with a plan to visit him again tomorrow to look at the RV. After your video, we made the "adult" decision to go with our gut and to wait. Hello everyone,
As I am reading all the posts from the last few hours, I am amazed by the responses to the video. We too were having issues finding the perfect unit with no success. So as we're looking at a Grand Design models. We join the GD owners group on FaceBook and began asking direct questions and the response was overwhelming with great information. So, here I go.. if you are looking at an older model..fine. If you want someone else poopy tank with a stinky slinky, that's great. For us, we printed a spec sheet of the options that we wanted and what was standard as well. Printed and saved the spec as a doc. Called a few dealers that were recommended by the group and summited the specs to those dealers only. Out of 8 dealers, 6 responded and quickly down to two. a few days later. We had the deal we wanted from Norm Wheelen at CoachLight RV. They are located in Missouri and we live temporarily in Texas, moving on back to Washington State soon. We also need to buy a truck to pull our baby "Journey" with us as well. We got a great deal on a NEW unit as things are changing in the RV market before the fall. Please folks DO NOT ON IMPULSE! Get all the gear that you need, I mean everything, pack lightweight and then get your baby. Stay positive and relax as you may be a future full-timer. You ask, what did you buy. We bought a Grand Design 5th wheel. I am excited and scared S#$%less too.

Hey guys.......So, in the last month I've made 3 offers on 3 different RV's. One barely came down, the other two wouldn't budge.....I walked. I won't overpay. I saw another one on the RV Trader yesterday, the first day it was posted. I sent a message asking the owner to call me so we can discuss it over the phone rather than email. I received an email later that night telling me that he received a full price offer and thanked me for my interest! It's crazy out there, and definitely not a good time to buy. I'm a cash buyer, and have plenty of time to wait. I predicted back in May on one of your videos that after the summer, there will be an overflow of RV's after this initial surge. You guys are spot on with what's happening in the market. Unless I can find a deal (which will probably be difficult in this market) I'm holding out. Maybe it slows down in the Fall, maybe Winter, perhaps Spring. I guess we'll have to wait and see. That being said, I have a friend and fellow UA-camr who came out with me last week to checkout one of the RV's I looked at and made an offer on. He brought his camera, made a short 15 minute video, and uploaded it to his channel a day ago. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/RA1fUvK40S4/v-deo.html check it out when you have a chance!

I'm in the process of buying a 3 year old TT that was used maybe 9 times from a private seller. It's 3 grand under NADA and they are including $1900 in hitch/gear. I had a certified inspector check it out. This seems like a good deal to me. Couldn't find anything new and prices were very high.

After seeking for months, and exhausted of looking, I put a depost down at a dealer because i wanted one so bad, even was willing to settle for buying new and getting reemed (expensive). I was worried about buying used because people might have beaten them up. When the Dealer didn't get it to me fast enough, I went online and searched again. I actually searched for the exact model I wanted and found it on FB market place. A woman who only used hers for 8 weeks and it was only a year old....and MUCH cheaper than the new model. We connected she was awesome, and even left me all the stuff she had in there. Long story. ANyway, I am soooo happy I got it, because it is my backup plan, plus I am a photographer too so I travel around and this will be awesome for me too instead of paying hotels or not being able to because of current events.

We made our first class c purchase in January 2020. We have had two different types of RVs prior, so we feel we made a good deal. We have used it several times since our purchase, but try to make sure we are being safe, respectful of fellow campers, and ensure we stay calm and relaxed. We are staying away from the over crowded areas and just get away from the four walls of quarantine. When not out RVing, I use it for zoom calls since the house is a work at home station and a virtual classroom. Stay safe and happy camping. ⛺️🛣🏕🏞

As someone who just bought an RV, I can say it’s one of the best times to buy. Interest rates are at historic lows, children are getting older so waiting isn’t an option, and deals are still plentiful even if you are ordering. There are always people who buy in and sell quickly when they find this isn’t for them. This is like vacation properties, boats, etc... I mean if you are a couple who wants to full time and have nothing but time, then may be waiting for the used market to pick back up and find a steal?

Great video. Makes me realize how lucky I am. Just bought a 2009 R-POD151 for $6.5k. It's spotless, no smells but did need a little systems tweaking. Came with new shoes and a new marine battery, and the goofy Olympic swirls were stripped off and replaced with subdued graphics. Had been looking at used Casitas but the prices are totally insane and new ones have a lead time over a year. And the prices for the new ones are just as crazy. The factory quoted me $35k for a new 17' egg. Crazy.

I don't know whether to believe it or not, but if you talk to dealers you will find out that ordering a particular model with options at this point might not make it to the dealer until sometime next summer (June/July). I saw where one dealer was mentioning if you want a bunkhouse model your chances will be better. The bunkhouses were the first to go and the manufacturers are pumping them out now more so than non-bunkhouse. I guess the families instead of retired couples are buying most of the RV right now.

I’ve just started looking into this lifestyle. The more I investigate the worse it looks. If your budget is that small that you cannot afford one under warranty, then it probably does make sense to drive your SUV. Although you are no longer comparing apples to apples. Being able to stop wherever you want to eat your own food in your own fridge raider on your own table or take a nap on your own bed is much different than being stuck in a seat in an SUV for thousands of miles while your spouse is in the passenger seat looking for a good deal on a hotel room that has been cleaned by an employee making $10 an hour. Nothing against that employee but there’s a pretty good chance that you’re not going into a bacteria free room. RV equals sanitary conditions, hotel rooms equal Russian roulette in the current times we live in

    • @mike73ng
      @mike73ng 4 роки тому

Pierre Nak your point is well taken but I guarantee there isn’t a sterile RV unit anywhere in the world. Cleaner than a hotel room? Debatable. Still, I’d rather sleep in my own bed every night. I agree with you there.
We are most interested in Class A travel. I don’t like the idea of a huge fifth wheel or a large Class C. We are in the market in about 2 years. Perhaps by then there will be some great deals on used 2020 rigs.

mike73ng I bought a new one last month. The rv dealer said they sterilized it but they still drove it over to me so no longer sterile. I had a company called sterile knights come over and spray every inch and inside all drawers and cabinets etc. it cost $300 but its well worth it to start with a clean rv. After that it’s up to me and my wife to keep it clean with Clorox etc. it’s not the same as the hospital grade cleaner that company used but it’s essentially the same responsibility we all have keeping our homes extra extra clean during this time.
