I have multiple complaints with your videos. First of all: No, the writing is not "100%" garbage, it DOES have some redeeming qualities! I am not saying it is exempt from criticisms (i'll admit that"Baldy McNosehair" was kinda stupid), but some characters like Orbot and Cubot were genuinely entertaining and funny. The line "When you consider what we're doing from a robot's perspective, that's actually pretty gruesome" for example was a written line. Eggman does have a few good lines too. 2nd: The title. I was expecting you to rant and nothing else for the entire duration of the video. (Side note: Sonic Generations was supposed to be a love letter to the franchise, as it celebrates its history)
Yes, Sonic Colors is a really good video game, I really like Colors in terms of art direction, aesthetics, OST, level design, reward system, ranking system, power-ups, etc. I'm glad you like this game, respect and recognize it for what it is, unlike many Sonic fans which switched up in this game recently ever since the time it was released where it was actually so praised However, I don't think the characters are descharacterized at all (I don't even know if you think that, you just said the story is bad, not that they are descharacterized), the story may be simplistic and just fill it's role as a story at best, the game and characters may not take the story seriously, yes, but Sonic still is the same dude with his same traits He hates opression, quickly getting genuinely evitently mad when he discovers what Eggman is doing to the Wisps and quickly jumps into action to save them He acts for the moment, doesn't let things for later, just like he says in 06 "If you have enough time to think, then run, nothing starts until you take action", or like the JP covers for Sonic 1 and 2 says "Don't just sit there and waste your precious time, when you gotta do something, do it right away, do it when you can", and the Sonic Adventure quote "I never look back, I've got no regrets, 'cause time doesn't wait for me", just like in those quotes, he also says "A hedgehog's gotta do what a hedgehog's gotta do", the JP quote in this cutscene makes things even more clear with Sonic saying "Don't you know? I can get things done when I need" showing that Sonic doesn't wait for things to be done, he jumps into action to make things happen He plays by his own rules, saying that No matter which law in the universe he'll have to break, he'll not think twice before doing it because he doesn't follow rules, he does what he wants to do, and I get it haha no copyright law in the universe funny, but that scene actually represents Sonic really well by showing that even if not Eggman, even if the authorities like the Police, GUN (like he did in SA2), he'll go against any law if he thinks it's necessary to do what he think is right The story may just be nothing to take seriously and watch like you watch cutscenes for games like Black Knight or Unleashed, but they show well who those characters are and present them in a good and faithful way, you'll understand how those characters act and what are their core traits, it's not something like other media who you'll be introduced to a totally different and unfaithful version of Sonic and you'll just be lost when you actually play a Sonic game and find out the character is totally different, this one actually get you on track on how Sonic acts

The game DOES have some good lines here and there, such as Cubot's "When you consider what we're doing from a robot's point of view, it's actually pretty gruesome" followed by Orbot's "Don't think about it!" The story does sound good on paper, even if some argue its execution wasn't very good. You may think i'm a Meta Era apologist (which, i'll admit, i am), but while i'm not saying the writing is exempt from criticism in those games, some people often downplay good/redeeming qualities as being bad (such as him saying "every line of dialogue is bad" when i just disproved that with Cubot), likely out of personal bias. I'd prefer a balanced criticism between what actually does suck in the writing (i didn't cringe at Baldy McNosehair, but it was kinda stupid), and what is actually good (such as the Cubot example, again).
@@fanofyoshi2238 I definetly agree with that too, I may be a total fanboy for the 2000 stories, but I do like the 2010s stories a lot too, I don't think they're as harmful as people point out to be, especially because of what I mentioned, they never descharacterized the characters, the stories are just written differently in a more silly, comical and simple way, and as I said, they are competent in their role of a story for a game, they present those characters to you in a competent way, even if people dislike the story
The dialogue in this game is like this because millennial journos hated the serious stories of Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 06, and Sonic Unleashed. So SEGA pulled HARD in the other direction. What seems to have happened is, after a lot of the same demographic who were dunking on Sonic for being "too edgy" loved the comedy dialogue in MadWorld- which SEGA published- SEGA took Ken Pontac and Warren Graff, those same writers from an M rated comic book style ultraviolent comedy, and signed them on to do the English scripts for Sonic the Hedgehog games for some reason. Unfortunately, Colors is one of their most tame localized scripts [Generations had very little story so there wasn't much they could fuck up there]. Forces and Lost World are insufferable with their dialogue. And Forces story and tone overall is an absolute anomaly because Sonic BOOM showed how Sonic dialogue CAN be funny, but since the BOOM sub-franchise failed so hard and lost SEGA so much money, they did another 180 and tried to make Forces on the same level as something like Sonic Adventure 2... but with those same comedy writers... and a "power of friendship" message.

Roger Craig’s smith was a lackluster Voice actor, so I can relate to this, I grew up with him and a little of Jason Griffith so I can see why. modern sonic scripts were horrible, But I will say generations fucking sucked on the story
The DS verson is better, I'm now just watching the cutseens and they look like something that fucking cocomelon would make (Yes the writing is shit nobody's defending it the DS writing is better but not a hole lot better think of like like a small quality of life mod? Tf am I saying nobody knows, wisps are cool but poorly executed, copy and pasted boss fight with like 1 or 2 changes) I should be more pacific with the wisps uhh every game there in that's not colors 9:30 HUH?
