Packraft Tutorial - Dangers of paddle leashes + releasable chest harness

In this video, Seon Crockford Laserer of @packrafteurope-officialalp8538 explains the advantages and disadvantages of paddle leashes and the dangers of releasable chest harness. The basic rule at the "clean-line" principle is to have as few lines or objects attached or tethered to the body as possible. Under certain circumstances, however, a paddle leash may make sense, for example, when crossing large bodies of water such as fjords, coastlines, or large lakes. Please keep in mind that the releasable chest harness (rescue belt) can only be opened without problems under a certain pulling direction and this may not always be possible in white water. Be aware of the danger and make a conscious decision.

Sehr interessanter Beitrag. Gut, dass auch gezeigt wird wie gefährlich der Rettungsgurt werden kann, wenn man dort etwas befestigt hat und in einem ungünstigen Winkel verkeilt ist. Gruß Simon

Hey Simon, ja das haben leider viele nicht auf dem Schirm, das ein Rettungsgurt nur unter ganz bestimmten Bedingungen sicher ausgelöst werden kann. Daher das Video und am besten gleich noch einen Wildwasser Kurs besuchen um es selbst mal zu testen. Beste Grüße. Tom

Great topic! I would never tie myself to a boat, even on open water. That is why one needs to practice self rescue, companion rescue in many different conditions. Also keep a tight grouping of paddlers when crossing open water.
