- If we haven't made it abundantly clear, we've fallen head over heals for packrafting because of the world of possibilities when you have a boat that can go virtually anywhere! In this video I take you through the basic gear and how to pack for packrafting. Though this video focuses on packing for a packrafting trip that requires you to backpack in, it will be helpful for anyone wanting to learn gear basics for packrafting. Wow, I wonder how many times I can write packrafting in one video description...

#packrafting #kayaking #backpacking
This is really helpful as a dad returning to backpacking with a 5 year old. I started long-distance backpacking in 2003 and hiked the AT in 2005, and I had a 38lb dry weight. It's wild that 40lbs WHILE CARRYING A BOAT is considered "heavy" now. Gear has gotten so much better.
I love the fact that you put out a super informative video, very professionally done, while sitting on stacked up camera cases with a gorgeous background. You are really good at this type of video. Love it.
Thank you so much. I think I’m ready to shake them up though and reimagine how tutorial info is shared 😘
Cannot thank you enough for this video. I did not know what I needed to know about packrafting, now I do.
Thanks so much for this video. I've been wondering what gear you had for packrafting as a starting point. Way cool!
Your timing couldn't be better. We have been researching packrafts all summer and this info just kind of seals the deal. Thank you for all the great info.
Good luck purchasing one.
Nice video, thanks for sharing! Packrafting seems like a great way to take adventures to the next level!
It really is!
leaving for grand canyon tomorrow!!! hope yall are well!
WOW! That looks awesome. Cool beans.
Love the video! When does the new series come out?
Another great episode. Sad that series is over…for now. Looking forward to whatever/wherever is next. Enjoy South America (though you have probably already been there and back). Travel safe.
That trip happened September -October and it was a real treat! But we are sad its over too, but more good to come as always!
Thank you
I just watched a video by Wilson of Wilson Forest Lands and he breaks off a small branch of Douglas fir to scare away the flying/biting insects which I thought was a great idea.
Next step is adding fly fishing to the mix…it’s a bit ridiculous but there are so many great backcountry lakes to fish from the Rockies to Patagonia.
Yup and fly gear packs up pretty light. Flies are small, rods pack into a tube. It's super convenient and alot of fun.
I am a total gear snob and got in to kayaking a few years ago. It’s kind of amazing to use a carbon paddle. But damn, the price is crazy. If you can afford it, you won’t regret a nice paddle.
Hi @boundfornowhere Just wondering what hiking backpack you fit all of your gear into shown on this video. There was no link in your description. Thanks heaps 😀
Great video, how stable is the raft on the water !!!
Would a collapsible travoy/hiking camper be storable inside the inflated raft? That would go a long way in making the extra weight easier to manage. Do they make trecking poles that can transform into paddles?
Hello! Very cool video :) I would love to know what kind of backpack you are packing all of your stuff into at the end. I assume it fits into the dry bags that go into the ISS of the boat when empty so pleaaassse tell me what you are using. Thank you!
It looks like the Hyperlite Windrider 55
If the combined temperature of the air and water doesn’t reach above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, you need to at least wear a wetsuit because at these temperatures hypothermia is a real and present risk and can set in much quicker than you would think. Your local, friendly river guide here 🤙🏻
Excellent information! Thank you!
I think that's Sharron Stone mountain
I swam them in my prime: the Trinity, the Smith I came here because I saw the federal park regulation
The river brings transport assistance not just exciting rapids which I would not engage, as a person who swam in the comfort of the river's gentle point a to b meanders
Would you guys go for the Wolvarine again, if you could do it again? Or the Classic or Expedition?
OH YES WE WOULD! We love these rafts so much! We felt we picked the right thing for us!
I’m on the fence between a gnarwhal and a gnarmule. I just want to be able to stretch my legs out here and there to help with cramps and comfy ness.
What size are the Alpacka Wolverines? Thanks in advance.
Mediums for both of us!
@@BoundForNowhere thank you!
Basic Instinct
Someone just got in trouble in the grand canyon for doing this.. what is so wrong about doing that? When I seen it I didn't get why the people got fired 3k
Needs better information faster
Not trying to be critical, but It really seems like you all should wait till you know what you are doing before making videos aimed at educating others (your already doing moving water trips without a throwbag).
Its a beginners guide video and she did explain the importance of a throwbag
@@jayesh5131 , "beginner guides" doers not make it alright to go on trips without a throwbag and recommend flip flops as appropriate footwear. When you are a "beginner" that is what you are a "beginer", not an expert giving advice to others simply because of a active UA-cam account.
You’ll have to make the same comment on abt 98% of UA-cam videos.
