So I don't understand why my IT doesn't want the 365 option... So I JUST got 2019 this week. Is there a way to convince them that 365 is a better option? What risk are they trying to manage exactly?

Even though I have Microsoft 365, I watched anyway. Some of these features are new to me. There's so much new stuff that it is hard to keep up. The big advantage of less complex formula's is not only the ease of use, but also less chance of errors. Troubleshooting these complex formula's can be so time-consuming. I think Microsoft is doing a great job.

That's true. It's not easy to troubleshoot those long formulas.

1:54 Spilling in Dynamic Array function - no need to dragging. hmm, that seems clean.
4:27 Automatically updating range using tables - wow, that's cool.
    10:35 F9 to refresh
11:35 LET function is useful, but what's more amazing is that it took MS soo long to realise and implement this. 😄😆😅
12:45 having such a top level button for autosave is cool 👍

I started creating my own library of macros and UDFs many years ago (probably around 2003 office) and it always surprised me/delighted me/frustrated me how many of my macros became obsolete with the next office release. I'm curious if you have inside view of the direction Microsoft is going. For a while it looked like the writing was on the wall for VBA and VSTO was the next big thing .... but VSTO seems to have faded into the background and VBA is alive an well. Power Query also seemed to be super powerful and made its way from Power BI to Excel fairly fast. I wonder where it is all going.

The index match function is still the most powerful function I use. It’ pretty hard to beat an index double match function. Once you’ve mastered how to write one of these you won’t even consider using VLookup. Index match functions go hand-and-hand with tables. The key is naming the table and your columns. Just come up with a good naming convention. My naming convention is _Tbl_Data the next one could be _Tbl_2022 This way they all sort in order when looking up named ranges. Another one is _List_Month for my lists. When I start writing an index match function I start with the Match part first such as =Match(B4,_Tbl_Data[Month],0)) Then I go to the beginning right after the equal sign and add the index part Index(_Tbl_Data[Work_Days], Remembering to add a comma separator.
With the finished function looking like this. =Index(_Tbl_Data[Work_Days],Match(B4,_Tbl_Data[Month],0))
The more you write them the more familiar you’ll be with. I have several workbooks that change all with the selection of the month from a drop down list. Updating two years of data for comparative analysis is nice.

Nice summary video of all the new Excel features. 365 is such a great value when you consider how many people you can share it with, the fact that everyone gets 1TB of storage and that you can use your license across multiple PC's. BTW if your company is a Microsoft enterprise customer, you also can get 20% off on a 365 license. I didn't get paid to say all that 😁

I just realized this is why I haven't felt the need to upgrade Word 2013. Microsoft puts almost all it's efforts into improving Excel. I just need the word processor and would upgrade it they just added the ability to change Ribbon icons and edit right-click menus. Sorta the stuff I was able to do in word 20 years ago.

LET function has inherent issue, which is..... you cannot evaluate through F9 inside the LET function, it through error. However, it works well in the dialogue box "formula evaluation". I have bring this in the notice of Microsoft and hopefully, it will be resolved in upcoming updates.

What would really be nice is if the sequence function also did alpha characters. Sometimes I have data in columns that I’d like to see in a row format. An example would be revenues listed by month. To do this I have to build a formula based on the column and row of the data I want to see. I have a workbook that has alpha characters stored on it. I copy what I need from here such as (C-F) and paste it into cells G25-G28 then in the next column over I add the row number in H25-H28. Let’s say the data I’m pulling from is on Row 5. From here I build the following text formula “X”&G25&H25 so it reads XC5 through XF5. I then select the range and do a copy paste special value to change the formula into text, then do a replace all on the X to change it into an equal sign ( = ) so I now have a formula that now pulls data from (Columns C-F) (Row 5) listing the data from (Jan-Apr) in a single column. I’m basically creating a transposed dynamic formula that updates when I update my spreadsheet.

Mr Calvo below is correct. AND the fact that many of the upgrades you demo here are really fixes for things which did not work optimally and the usual bucket load of fancy effects -- which most people do not know about because M'soft is habitually bad at giving information as it used to do 20 years ago.
There is far better software available for operations you show and it tends to be far cheaper than M'soft's ludicrous prices. Calc in Libre Office seems to fulfil most basic accountancy needs in ordinary commerce but it also contains Math, which allows formula building to a sophisticated degree beyond anything M'soft has. This applies to basic CAD as well.
Those of us who have long worked in education pay heed to too many glitches and students getting confused by badly described changes across MS Office. It is if M'soft's shallow gene pool is drying up and its badly damaged DNA is showing through.
This perhaps helps to explain why when we review procurement we do not slavishly follow Windows any more. We assess fitness for purpose and the utter scam over Windows 11 on grounds of "added security" made us look more closely. Did MS expect the education systems of hundreds of countries to buy new machines just to run 11 instead of the superior and adaptable Win 10? By the time W10 support ceases in 2025 M'soft might not even exist and "unsupported" means nothing to IT experts in large organizations and government departments such as education, health, energy etc.
As for MS Office, purchases/renewals of subscriptions are in steep decline in Europe, the UK and Commonwealth countries. Eastern Europe, the Netherlands and German speaking states have been dumping Office for years and Libre Office is well ahead on proper language alternatives and not half-hearted ones MS has always tried to sell at greedy prices.
Microsoft Corp also snoops far too much and we in Europe dislike that. If we buy a product we have transacted ownership of something we expect to work for a long time without being linked outside our control to a huge corporation of increasingly dubious practices in tax, finance, privacy and product support.

If we upgrade from Office 2019 to Office 2019, will this corrupt the formulas already created in our source tables and will there be any issues when we start using the new Office 2021 Pivot/ Power Pivot functions with excel data that was created in Office 2019? MS has withdrawn the LAMBDA function from Excel 2021. Excel 2021 had LAMBDA and LET working during 2022. The availability of LAMBDA was always fluid but LET was always promised functionality. In late 2022, MS seems to have withdrawn support for those functions from Excel 2021. Here is a quote from an email from MS support about this issue: "Unfortunately, LAMBDA, LET and the new text functions are not available in the Office 2021 One-time purchase (perpetual) license. They are only available with a Microsoft 365 Subscription. We believe that there were issues with Excel's license authentication that may have caused these functions to appear in non-365 versions." The issue might have been an excessive interest in customer benefit, which appears to have been rectified.

You can also use the "remove duplicate values" function to get unique values.

Sure, but unique function may be used whenever You want and it'a a function so anytime You change the data it updates automatically
Remove duplicates is better if You do not need such updates

Half of these functions don't appear to be in Excel 2021 for Mac. I am missing, UNIQUE, SORT, FILTER and others. I do have XLOOKUP and LET Is there a clear list somewhere of functional availability for each version by platform? Does Microsft 365 for Mac have these?

The one I'm most interested in didn't make it to the 2021 release 😢. It is the Lambda function.

i have not used Excel much, but I know somethings and I am a computer developer. Seems like Excel is missing a general use of so called higher order functions (i.e. functions that can be sent as values and executed later). LET had it specifically, but could be used elsewhere. For instance instead of sorting a list ascending and descending order, it would be better to send a function that decides the order (you would then have functions called ascending and descending built in) which gives you even more freedom. Lots of the new stuff here exists in programming and I am a bit surprised Excel didn't get them earlier. Would have been very useful. Anyway better late than never and I hope they copy more from the programming world (probably from functional programming languages as that suits Excel best).

I have O 365, yet I only use word and publisher. Would it be better for me to just buy the individual software than keep the Residual every year? Thanks

I really need a reference for which functions and features are only in Microsoft 365, so I can avoid those functions and features to remain compatible with older Excel and Word uses.
