Actually it's not just Chipmunks that can talk, there was an anthropomorphic Gopher in the last one, who alluded to a larger community of likely other talking animals. And in the first one Simon mentioned that fish have a sort of sign language.
Haven’t watched this video yet but reading the title my first thought was, “There’s 4? What’s after Chipwrecked?” I then went through a bit of embarrassment due to knowing the name of the 3rd movie at all and had a flashback to when I would use my DS to mess with songs I had downloaded onto it to make them all sound like they were sung by Alvin and the Chipmunks. Sidenote: Why is it called Alvin and the Chipmunks? They’re all Chipmunks! Extra Sidenote: What in gods name is a Chipmunk? The name sounds really weird. Sounds like some potato got hung drawn and quartered before converting to Christianity and joining the brotherhood.
Chipmunks are a type of rodent primarily found in North America with a single Variety in Siberia (according to the internet, I'm not just some person who's obsessed with the taxonomy of chipmunks). I live in one of the main Areas of the United States where Chipmunks are really common and I see them all the time. They look s lot like squirrels, but without tails.
This made me feel very old. Not only do you not know about the early 90s Saturday morning cartoon, but you saw one of these in theaters as a child in 2011, the same year my kids were born.
DUUUDE ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS WAS MY CHILDHOOD OBSESSION -- i can't tell you how many fanfics and ocs i made of other chipmunk/chippette characters and role played with my sisters. we would even copy the Chipettes (since they were three of us) and attempt to do their dances to family members and friends (SO EMBARRASSING LOOKING BACK). its also funny because we had a neighbor who had 3 sons around our age and we just kinda decided to crush on them for... you know what reason. anyway it was cringe but fun. also the 3rd movie was our favorite, actually
I went through a phase in middle school where I would listen to the "chipmunks version" of songs, which was just the song with the voice pitched up to sound like them. Africa by Toto was one of my favorites, and I listened to plenty of Chipette versions of Taylor Swift songs. Cringe 😂

Alvin and the Chipmunks is one of those things were as a movie, it's bad, but as an adaptation, it's amazing (but that depends on which movie, Chipwreck dropped the ball tbh)
I've known the Chipmunks since birth. I cant believe some people haven't! I love the 80s series and the animated movies that came out in the early 2000s!
I would love to see y'all react to the old school Alvin and the Chipmunks animated movies after this. I honestly don't remember much of it but I know Alvin and the Chipmunks around the world in 80 days was one of my favorites as a kid. We would literally rent it every time we went to Blockbuster.
I forgot about that Chipmunk Adventure movie for so long but recently I remembered there was a whole plotline about forced marriage/ human (scratch that- chipmunk) trafficking and now I'm like "how was this allowed"😳
The Chipmunks and Chipettes sadly have an on and off relationship. The youngest siblings are usually the most consistently together followed by the middle siblings. Mainly due to their personalities.
I got really happy when I got the notification since a new video from Seamus always puts a smile on my face and especially this one cuz these movies were my life when I was 8-10 yrs old. And for the first time I know what’s gonna happen before Seamus and Vegard does
I grew up on Alvin and the chipmunks and didn’t even know it was from the 50s. One of my favorite movies with them was the werewolf movie. 3 completely different series plus multiple animated movies throughout my childhood and teen years alone.
When I was in hospital at 11, I watched the second film on a DVD player. Then I realised the hospital had the first film, and watched that. Then I wanted to watch the second film again, having now seen the first, and that was when my mum snatched the DVDs from my hands and said she wasn't going to sit through those voices a third time. Can't say I blame her.
Did anyone else get whiplash when the clip for the 4th movie started playing. I completely forgot there was a 4th one and omg the animation of the chipmunks are so different I had to pause the video to regain my senses. I was not expecting the quality to jump like that
Weta Digital, the visual effects artists who worked on The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Avatar 2: The Way of Water worked on Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: The Road Chip.
My only memory of Chipwrecked was Jennette(?) singing SOS by Rhianna because I watched the movie on a Greyhound bus when I was in 3rd grade. Core memory.
Before the live action Alvin and the chipmunks movies came out, I constantly watched the Alvin and the chipmunks: meet the wolf man, and the meet Frankenstein movies while growing up
im one of the few people who actually liked watching all the alvin and the chipmunks films. to me they are essentially focused to a young teen audience at best but are the typical american stereotype style of tropes thrown into the movie with some small more mature humour and little secrets here and there. i think the 1st chipmunk film actually came out around the time of christmas hence the christmas theme in the 1st movie and the 3rd coming out around summer time. to me, the 1st film grabbed my attention i think it was due to the fact that imo, music was dying and losing its touch with decent music so i settled with the chipmunks remakes of real songs because admittedly, the songs they sing are better than the originals imo which also was the reason i broadened my music to covers other genres, other tones and many other things within the music industry so in a way i have this to thank for that. for the 2nd film, i personally think it was better and i mean more people ended up watching it as well because the chippettes were introduced with 2 returning characters that people actually liked to see in films and movies at the time. for people who dont know as well, the side character in the chippettes i think and i believe a very old school youtuber when vine was around in 2015 id like to have a guess at. i think one of them is tobias and i recognise the side character in road chip as well. but yes alvin and the chipmunks obviously made enough to feature some people in the films for a part of it and actually made profit here and there. its basically the less modern version of the same thing that happened with the frozen glow up and everything to do with frozen which is now a prominant modern day part around christmas. the 3rd i think was the least popular overall because it strayed from the path of the films and didnt make profit anyway. so not much to say on this either than it got me to listen to the vacation song and SOS. the last one was better than 3 but still flopped quite hard if i remember correctly, even tho it had familliar faces and famous people from that era of time-filming and music, it dont think it ended up doing well in sales so it wasnt talked about for long and hadnt got much attention. this was around the time JLS (forgotten band of singers), LMFAO, psy for gangnamstyle, what does the fox say, i think stuff like just dance 3 and many other genres were kicking up a notch due to a technology boom or some advancement in technology. lastly as a side note, the main reason why the chipmunks sound the way that they do because in the making of it, the 3 female and male singers were awful for the most part at singing which is why their voices were never used. there are snippits on youtube somewhere in which you can hear there actual voices over the film its self and you will notice that it wouldve flopped far more if they hadnt chosen to go with the squeaky voices. oh and i forgot, this is when auto tune was a major concept in films and music so people were still experimenting with it.
I liked watching them I own all of the dvd’s. I also have my plushies of all the 6 characters, and I loved watching the animated series. I think the fourth movie isnt that great so I only watch 1-3 but I do have the fourth dvd. But the thing is I watched them in my first language and they didn’t bother to make their voices squicky so for me I assumed there voices were normal like in the dubbed version.
I might delete this if you mention it, but since the third movie came out one year after Toy Story 3, it's pretty clear the whole thing where Simon just randomly acts like a different character because a spider bit him is literally ripping off when Buzz had his Spanish mode on
The first movie came out when I was 10 years old so naturally I ended up seeing it many times. I even had their songs on my iPod Shuffle for some reason.
Up until today I did not know there was a 4th Live Action Alvin & the Chipmunks movie. For, like, 10 years I thought Chip-Wrecked killed the franchise. How did it survive Chip-Wrecked
I have watched u for 6 years now i guess, you are the only constant in my life right now and i adore your content sooo much, so its kinda weird not seeing new uploads for like 2 months, you have that younger brother charisma and a really sweet smile. I dont like commenting since english is my second language and its kinda broken, but still Seamus even when your videos dont hit i still rewatch them because i find comfort in your voice. I was 13 when i first started watching you, i kinda grew up with you and can still remember lyrics to some of the parody songs (they still slap btw). So from a lifelong fan, thank you for being a part of my life.
We actually had the record (real vinyl) of "Christmas with the chipmunks" from the 1960's no idea how we got it, i think it survived so well because it was only brought out once a year.
The gopher that suddenly shows up in the second movie during the driving sequence is Digger the Gopher, the NASCAR mascot for the ground-mounted track cameras. Also the mention about the chipmunks and the Chippettes names one thing I noticed as a kid was Theodore and Eleanor’s names matching as like a reference to Theodore and Eleanor Roosevelt. I don’t know if that was intentional originally or just a coincidence but I thought that was kinda fun
I was always confused with the relationship between the Chipmunks and the Chipettes. They have sibling dynamics but at the same time romance? I’m still confused about it to this day.
20:02😂 10:01 Simon, First of child. Second, Chipmunk. I grew up with the 1981 Christmas special movie and the chipettes movie as well as these. 18:16 Those break dancing moves are hard! Simone is actually played by Alan Tudyk.😅
I used to watch the first two when I was younger, and even remember liking the first movie (don’t remember my thoughts on the second, I mainly remember Alvin mentioning Donkey Kong), though I think I used to be kinda hesitant to rewatch the first one when I was younger cause I remember the Chipmunk dolls or whatever that Ian made creeped me out back then Edit: Ok, scratch that Donkey Kong reference being the main thing I remember from the second cause I just remembered a weird story for me back when I first saw it in theaters (don’t ask me why), when Dave got hurt at the beginning, somehow I thought I had just witnessed that actually happening like it was real life and it was like 2012, I was probably 5, coming up on six, and so my dumb younger mindset doing that made me not wanna go back to the theater for a while. At least I think this was 2012 because I remember seeing Avengers in theaters when it first came out and eventually got my head on straight and starting going back there when Iron Man 3 came out but didn’t go with my brother to see The Amazing Spider-Man when that did…I seemed to have been a moron with movies when I was little
OMG AATC obsession since childhood. I was like 5 when I watched the first one and I definitely loved it. I thought the music was really cool. I thought Ian was an interesting villain. I also thought the Chipmunk dolls were creepy, but I think that was the whole point of them. Even Dave commented that they are weird in one scene. I was like 6/7 when the Squeakquel came out and it was even better. I also thought the scene of Dave getting hurt was mental. But, it means the chipmunks are without him and have to learn the main lesson without him (what help is Toby gonna be tbh). I I remember my mom telling me, when Alvin rescues the Chipettes, it was Yogi Bear coming out of the ground and not getting that reference. I also thought it was odd Alvin randomly mentioning Donkey Kong in one scene. I loved Chipwrecked as well. I loved that it was a holiday movie. I thought it was interesting that Alvin said to someone at the casino on the ship, "You can follow me on Critter". It was funny and odd at the same time because we know that they are aware of the existence of Twitter in this universe. But, Dave and Ian's dynamic is really good in this film, the loving father trying to rescue his sons from harm and the good (deep down), but begrudging sidekick. And yes, if Dave wasn't with Claire, I would ship him and Ian together. It never even crossed my mind until Vegard said it. And finally The Road Chip. The most adult-oriented and mature of them all. I was a few years older when I saw this. It never even crossed my mind that Alvin drugged squirrels and put them into the Alvin, Simon and Theodore sweaters. He literally drugged squirrels! And then Alvin mentioning "Pink Flamingos" while in first class was a reference to the film of the same name. A film for adults. This films has the first instance of character (Miles) saying "crap" in an AATC film. Anyways, I definitely loved all the movies for as I can remember, but some references went over my head. But these films were my childhood.
I'm glad you mentioned why at the beginning of the video. I was thinking you lost a bet against someone and now have to make this video as punishment. As a 80's kid who liked the cartoon back then I only watched the trailer for the first live action movie once and said nope. Edit: You made me feel old when you thought that 80's song was from The Chipmunks movie. I'm trying not to think of you as a kid because of that.
18:50. This is Digger, a gopher that NASCAR used to try to get kids to watch the sport (because, for some reason, they thought that a talking gopher was going to make kids like race cars). On the other hand, not many people knew about this character, even in America, so I don’t blame you for not understanding the reference.
Where was the phenomenon on social media, encouraging audiences to see both Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens and Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: The Road Chip as a double feature back in December, 2015?
Huge Chipmunk fan here! The Fox movie franchise might have ended, but the Chipmunks have a new reboot on Nickelodeon! Seasons 3 and 4 are on Netflix too!
Yay, a another Seamus Gorman upload. I get so excited whenever he uploads a new video, but especially this time because he did an Alvin and the Chipmunks vid. I was so excited because AATC is my childhood. I loved literally all the movies. I'm disappointed you were very critical at certain because these movies are my life. I would say my ranking of the films is 2, 4, 3 & 1. I really like The Squeakquel because it's got that classic American High School and I love the sense of family that the chipmunks have with each other in the end.. So while Seamus and Vegard are cringing together, I feel nothing but nostalgic. I hope you do more of these Seamus. I hope you do Beethoven and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid tetralogy. Seamus, I think the reason nobody has out to steal more chipmunks from the wild and make them sing is because the whole point of the series is that Alvin, Simon, Theodore, Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor are the only andromorphic chipmunks that exist in the world. We saw in the mid credits scene of 1, that Ian is trying get real chipmunks to sing, but to no avail, so there are no other talking chipmunks around. So, therefore, the whole series is meant to point that they are their own unique species. And to answer your question about the Squeakquel, Seamus, the title is a pun on the word, "sequel" and the noise that comes of real chipmunks "squeak". And also, to answer your question about whether the Chipmunks and Chipettes are in love yet, yes they are. I think right from the moment they looked in each other's eyes they were simping for one another (that was the point of that scene). But, Simon and Jeanette became official at the end of the third movie when they are on the raft together and Simon confesses his feelings to her. Alvin and Brittany are in love, but have a love/hate relationship and Theodore and Eleanor are official in number 4 when she called Theodore "Theodorable".
Storytime : Back when i was 6 in Portugal at the Cascais mall in 2012-13, there was this one store in which my prents would drop me off while they did errands and stuff. In this area, there were these box screens were kids could draw and play clips. There were only 3 clips available, one being the 12 second scene in which Alvin and the chipmunks meet the chimpettes with the song : "I wanna know what love is", playing in the overlay. In the whole 2 hours that i was left there, i played that 12 second clip over and over and over and over to the point where i got into a physical fight with some other 6 year old who wanted to play the Dumbo clip. The box was removed only a month afterwards and i'm 90% sure it got removed because of the satanic hold the Alvin and the chipmunks clip had on me and the amount of fights i started just because i wanted to watch that one 12 second clip over and over and over again. End of storytime
I completely forgot that I watched the last 2 Alvin movies before this released. I watched them like 8 years ago and they've just been completley barricaded off from my memory until now. Why would you do this to me Seamus!?
You know I actually have a vivid memory of my mom taking me to see the Road Chip in theaters and me begging her not to because I had like. I don't know, gained sentience, so I didn't want to watch a fourth Alvin and the Chipmunk movie. I went. I don't remember a single moment of anyone in the theater enjoying it.
I remeber watching the third movie like 40 times as a kid despite not even remebering it for years at all i was able to recall every plot detail and scene
Great video! But just letting you know, these movies were actually based on the 1983 cartoon with 8 seasons "Alvin and the chipmunks" this was a live action take on the show with reference to the original Chipmunks song. And I think they are good adaptations to the source material. It was weird for you not to reference the cartoon, in this video seans you heavily review animated shows and movies.

Also wikipedia says that Chip n Dale are Chipmunks which I did not know.
Yeah the fourth is called road chip 😣
It’s because it’s always been called Alvin and the chipmunks given they’re a band 😅 (and franchise)
Cringe 😂
I had an obsession with chipwrecked 😭😭 idk why but I loved me chipmunks stranded on an island for some weird reason
@@leahtheanimationfan40 SAME!! i remember discovering I Knew You Were Trouble from chippette's version LOL
@@askeletonwearingatophat7582 same, i also really loved the outfits the girl's got, and how the simon/janette romance was a little more developped
@@amyfalls same honestly they were my biggest ships lmao who cares about Alvin/Brittany the real heat was janette and Simon. Also the girls fits in that movie we’re SO GOOD
The fact they got an arrested development actor to play the villain and then another one to play the villain in road chip is so mind boggling to me
Also does anyone else think Ian looks like Shido?
Yes
"Arrested development actor"? 😶😶
@@princesserika9899that’s the main thing I know David Cross and Tony Hale from, outside of this series
He's also the voice of Forky from Toy Story 4 and the villain from Clifford the Big Red Dog (2022).
According to NBC News, David Cross didn't think he needed to be present for the week of filming onboard a Carnival cruise ship, since he's unrecognizable in the pelican suit anyway. The other producers agreed that a stand-in could fill in for him during that part of filming, but the particular producer he singled out disagreed. David had to pay a huge fine of $100,000 for making this public information, Ian was written out of Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: The Road Chip, David was blacklisted. David worked on small roles in Kung Fu Panda 3, The Post, 8-Bit Christmas, You Hurt My Feelings, and Kung Fu Panda 4. This producer left 20th Century Fox in 2016 after the release of Me before You. She has been working for Amazon Prime Video since 2022. It's disappointing that Tony Hale couldn't help David reconcile with 20th Century Fox to get his job back.
Alvin and the Chipmunks is one of those things were as a movie, it's bad, but as an adaptation, it's amazing (but that depends on which movie, Chipwreck dropped the ball tbh)
Completely agree. The chipmunks translated so well in real life, I’m glad they didn’t go for weird mutant child/chipmunk hybrid
I dont care what anyone says, I forever love these movies (at least the first 3) and they are my comfort movies lol. Specifically 1 & 2.
When they actually LOOKED like chipmunks!
The chokehold that these movies had on me when I was a child was intense
I got really happy when I got the notification since a new video from Seamus always puts a smile on my face and especially this one cuz these movies were my life when I was 8-10 yrs old. And for the first time I know what’s gonna happen before Seamus and Vegard does
Fun fact: I went through a mini depression when I was 10 years old, and The Squeakuel was what helped me get through it. Thank you Chipmunks.
I’m glad I came back to your channel, you’re just as strong as you were three years ago.
Referring to David Cross and Jackson Galaxy as "different fonts of each other" seriously just made my week!!
My only memory of Chipwrecked was Jennette(?) singing SOS by Rhianna because I watched the movie on a Greyhound bus when I was in 3rd grade. Core memory.
“He has too many musical instruments to be this unsuccessful.”
Me, who owns two pianos, four guitars, and a bass, and has yet to even record a song: 😐
I remember calling my little sister every time the trailer for the sequel came on tv💀 we were obsessed
I might delete this if you mention it, but since the third movie came out one year after Toy Story 3, it's pretty clear the whole thing where Simon just randomly acts like a different character because a spider bit him is literally ripping off when Buzz had his Spanish mode on
Road Chip is definitely an underrated gem in the series
2:53 "What are we doing?" Vegard is my favorite 😂
Oh my god I love Seamus’s laugh. It’s so contagious. Also when he started trying to tackle a chipmunk💀
if theodore isn't the cutest thing you've ever seen you're LYING
The first movie came out when I was 10 years old so naturally I ended up seeing it many times. I even had their songs on my iPod Shuffle for some reason.
I like how Seamus is pretending he dioesnt know anything about the chipmunks
I love seamus laughing at Dave’s line here. 7:54-7:56
My first out loud reaction “why would you do that?”
Great work, Seamus! Thank you for what you go through for our entertainment
18:53 that is Digger who would show up during NASCAR races on Fox during the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Up until today I did not know there was a 4th Live Action Alvin & the Chipmunks movie. For, like, 10 years I thought Chip-Wrecked killed the franchise. How did it survive Chip-Wrecked
Chipwrecked made $396 million dollars.
The epitome of cinematic masterpieces
I’ve been binging Seamus for the last couple days and I truly believe Seamus posts when he knows we neeed him most ❤
The gopher that suddenly shows up in the second movie during the driving sequence is Digger the Gopher, the NASCAR mascot for the ground-mounted track cameras.
Also the mention about the chipmunks and the Chippettes names one thing I noticed as a kid was Theodore and Eleanor’s names matching as like a reference to Theodore and Eleanor Roosevelt. I don’t know if that was intentional originally or just a coincidence but I thought that was kinda fun
i've once again been reminded that the alvin and the chipmunks soundtrack goes so hard
I used to watch the first two when I was younger, and even remember liking the first movie (don’t remember my thoughts on the second, I mainly remember Alvin mentioning Donkey Kong), though I think I used to be kinda hesitant to rewatch the first one when I was younger cause I remember the Chipmunk dolls or whatever that Ian made creeped me out back then
Edit: Ok, scratch that Donkey Kong reference being the main thing I remember from the second cause I just remembered a weird story for me back when I first saw it in theaters (don’t ask me why), when Dave got hurt at the beginning, somehow I thought I had just witnessed that actually happening like it was real life and it was like 2012, I was probably 5, coming up on six, and so my dumb younger mindset doing that made me not wanna go back to the theater for a while.
I was thinking you
lost a bet against someone and now have to make this video as punishment.
As a 80's kid who liked the cartoon back then I only watched the trailer for the first
live action movie once and said nope.
Edit: You made me feel old when you thought that 80's song was from
The Chipmunks movie. I'm trying not to think of you as a kid because of that.
18:50.
This is Digger, a gopher that NASCAR used to try to get kids to watch the sport (because, for some reason, they thought that a talking gopher was going to make kids like race cars).
On the other hand, not many people knew about this character, even in America, so I don’t blame you for not understanding the reference.
i remember watching the second movie and couldnt believe seeing quest crew and charice
The reference you said you didn't get was of Digger, a Nascar mascot, from his own series Digger and Friends. One website claims he's Alvin's cousin.
"this raft won't build itself" he says, NOT AT ALL HELPING TO ACTUALLY BUILD THE RAFT
15:08 "Imagine if they'd be called like Alvina..."
Meanwhile me: 😯🤓 (my name being uttered in a video for the first time in my life)
Where was the phenomenon on social media, encouraging audiences to see both Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens and Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: The Road Chip as a double feature back in December, 2015?
Huge Chipmunk fan here! The Fox movie franchise might have ended, but the Chipmunks have a new reboot on Nickelodeon! Seasons 3 and 4 are on Netflix too!
Y’know it’s wierd they never once reference chipwrecked in road chip almost as if they want to recon the only movie that doesn’t fit in, huh
This is exactly the kind of content I want to watch at 4am on a saturday
That is some impressive trivia sir.
i’d take the credit but i just used chatgpt
When I watched the 2nd D&D episode of community, all I could think of when looking at hickeys son was the name Ian. I now remember why.
I'd actually watch a video of chipmunks in a singing contest, because I'm curious as to who the judges would be.
Whatever the reference at 18:50 is supposed to be reminds me of Yogi Bear, but that’s from marketing rather than actually ever seeing Yogi Bear.
Actually, it’s probably something like Wacky Races given the line.
I completely forgot that I watched the last 2 Alvin movies before this released. I watched them like 8 years ago and they've just been completley barricaded off from my memory until now. Why would you do this to me Seamus!?
watching seamus attack the floor is probably the best thing i'll do all summer

Great video! But just letting you know,
these movies were actually based on the 1983 cartoon with 8 seasons "Alvin and the chipmunks" this was a live action take on the show with reference to the original Chipmunks song. And I think they are good adaptations to the source material. It was weird for you not to reference the cartoon, in this video seans you heavily review animated shows and movies.
David Cross was basically forced to make the third one out of contract issue. So I guess no one wanted to make that one
