    Loved the content. Lot is times, we read theory. Now practical data from real-time scenarios is superb. Loved the kid at the end. Looks like she is endorsing the results

    Great videos. Like others, I have struggled with knowledgeable HVAC/ERV contractors. Looking forward to applying this information to the new home project that we will be starting as soon as the county approves the permits. You have influenced the design for sure.

    This aspect is what Im still at somewhat of a loss for. I know how i want the air to move around inside the house, but how to know the right volume of air to move in order to get exactly what I want, and how to ensure I get the results I want, by setting the whole system up correctly, has been a mystery. You have done a good job of explaining this, and I’m starting to understand. Its not as complicated or mysterious as it seemed. Its also kind of exciting to think that there literally is a way to control air movement the way I have always wanted, and a way to test it all to be sure it is actually doing it.

      Excellent to hear, @compactc9, and I’m delighted that my work is helping make things clearer for you. A lot of this is buried and hidden inside engineering guidelines, but most engineers don’t care about houses, they stick with big buildings.

      @@HomePerformance its true, this type of detail and HVAC setup is more of a commercial building type of thing. And i find that frustrating, as it matter just as much in houses, I think.

    been using those round ducts for a very long time. What I find is that when they are dialed in correctly the bathrooms dry down fast and there is virtually no mold

    You just keep hitting it out of the park with these ventilation videos. Before watching the last two I was certain that exhausting a bathroom with a ventilator would not evacuate the steam effectively enough compared to an exhaust fan. Is there a resource that guves guidelines for the exhaust and supply CFM levels you should be aiming for per room? Thanks bud.

      Hey man- glad these are doing it for you. ASHRAE 62.2 gives guidance on this, but there are some basic notms that have been around for years that work too, like 50 cfm bath fan (intermittent) or 25 cfm (continuous).

    Great content. I love watching your videos. I am definitely booking a consultation with you when I am ready to do my duct design for the house I am building by myself.

    Another great presentation. Now something a bit off topic, I see that you have a washlet installed in one of your toilets (I'd say master), Bravo! I have 2 Totos here at home, had to get them after trip to Tokyo. You'll cringe having to use the Tiny House composter from now on. ;-)

    You seem to know exactly what airflow you want in each area of your house, coming in and leaving.
    However, on the other hand, I have no clue of what airflow I want or need in my house. So, my question is, how do I figure out what numbers I want or should have? Are there ideal numbers for a “healthy house” that we should all strive for?

    Another great video sir. I’m very interested in what your doing there isn’t a professional in my town that knows what you know. So how can I do what you teach with less expensive tools. I can but I don’t want to drop 10k in diagnostic tools for just one house? Also why do you prefer the carrier? I just put in a Mitsubishi system and now you and Risinger are talking Carrier!

      I agree. I need to learn more! I want to do my whole ductwork myself because I don't trust the pros around here. No one ever heard of a manual J or how tonseal ductwork.

    • @HomePerformance
      @HomePerformance  3 роки тому +2

      I don’t endorse just one brand of anything, Adam- Carrier took feedback from users and installers to create that new ductless head, and Mitsubishi is a lot slower to adapt lately. Just trying to shine a light on good stuff. Also, I’m happy to get on a call with you to help you plan your project. If you want that, it’s easy to book:

    Hi Corbett,
    I am thinking of using erv extraction point in the kitchen for the residual smoke that escapes the hood. But I can find a fan tech grease filter for a 4” duct size.
    Any thoughts , and how did you install it in your kitchen for extraction?
    Thanks
    Rohan

    • @HomePerformance
      @HomePerformance  2 роки тому

      Rohan, we don’t have an overflow ERV exhaust for the kitchen- I recommend designing your hood to be good enough to capture all of it.

    So you put your shower duct right inside the shower. I have heard 50/50 opinions on that. Zehnder did my layout and they are recommending it outside the shower. Thoughts on that?

    • @HomePerformance
      @HomePerformance  3 роки тому

      I’d say that’s a mistake- in this case, both common sense and scientific testing show exhausting right where the pollutants are created is best.

    Any good tutorials on how to measure / balance an ERV that asks for Differential pressure (Pa)? with those ports you mentioned on the ERV? I have a Panasonic Intellibalance 100... I tried using the CFM method with the gauge you have, and it says exhaust out of the house is like 65 - 70CFM but the CFM going into my return duct work is 80-140 CFM (set to 50 - 100 on the unit respectively), it has knobs so you can say supply air 50 - 100 CFM and Exhaust air 50 - 100. But no matter what I set exhaust to it says 65- 70 CFM on the CFM meter.. its exhausting out of an old water heater B venting. Supposed to be 4 inch round ducting. And i've been having a lot of humidity issues with the ERV. So I figured it has to be a balance issue. (not enough exhaust air to balance out incoming air especially with humidity).

    Why do we install 100cfm fan in bathrooms?

    • @HomePerformance
      @HomePerformance  3 роки тому +1

      Good q, Guillaume- that’s a compromise for a single location fan in a bigger bathroom where you know it’s not going to work well. It’s a dumb fix imho, if two smaller exhaust locations at 25 cfm apiece will actually remove the pollutants before they take over the whole room.

    Why you did not throw the fresh air into your hvac supply ducts and built a dedicated fresh air supply?

    • @HomePerformance
      @HomePerformance  3 роки тому

      That works too- we designed and built this house with our own hands so we could know for a fact what it takes for builders and trades to implement the most extreme improvements over standard construction. An American home with radiant heating would have to duct a full ventilation system like this too, as would virtually every home outside North America.
