Giving cyclists a head start and attempting to catch them on the climb.

I'm not a climber, and this cyclist has no idea I'm using them as bait on the end of an imaginary fishing rod to push my self to keep the power going up hill!

When there isn't any "bait" around, it helps me to think of a climb as a savings account: every foot I climb will usually be returned to me as a nice descent later on.

In many circumstances due to inadequate narrow intersections and drivers habits it is often safer to do an RLJ if that means leaving the intersection rather than go shoulder to shoulder with accelerating SUVs, trucks and buses when the lights go green. So long as you don't alarm or endanger anyone else, ie pedestrians, it is perfectly fine and actually safer.

Its a T-junction with no vehicles entering his lane. If he takes care of the pedestrians, I'd say it is okay to ride on. Safety for cyclists in the absence of decent cycling infrastructure means minimizing the proportion of the journey spent alongside vehicles as much as is possible, and RLJs thoughtfully and watchfully done is one of the means. On a flat surface this RLJ could give the cyclist as much as a quarter of a mile with no traffic alongside, which also means being able to stay cleanly out of the door zone without being threatened or harrassed by motorists.
This is not about "supporting" law breaking. It is just the reality of riding in the UK.

Do you still campaign for safety (I mean obviously apart from UA-cam videos) . I remember you on the bbc documentary about cyclists . Why all of a sudden has everything gone quiet . Has the car industry increased its backhander cash to the government .
