Should lose their license over that type of driving.
The problem is not the spacing, but the angle of the turn. You could probably take that left at 50 and be fine. If it were 90, drivers would be forced to slow down and be much more likely to give way. A steep hump and parallel crossing would further improve that.

A lot of drivers dont realise a cycle lane should be treated like a normal car lane, when they cross it to take a junction they dont imagine it like taking an exit from a duel carriage way from lane 2. They think because its small and at the side of the road it doesnt count. Plus the amount of drivers that dont respect cyclists as well means cyclists have to do more work to keep safe in situations like this and cant trust drivers.
I feel the painted lines are a bit of an improvement but the council have balanced it out vs the amount of cyclists that use it and the cost to put the infrastructure in, to put an island in will be more expensive than the paint.
Still the best option as a cyclist is look over your shoulder before committing to going through, treat everyone like an idiot, be ready to slow and stop if you feel your safety is at risk. It shouldnt be that way if everyone could drive correctly.

put an island there, give way line, or even a stop line with signs. Then people should then look.

Car is short for carriage . So they are all cars . Also why aren't the barriers put on the line instead of in the cycle lane . This country treats the dangerous road users better and that there is the problem .

Longer vehicle like vans take the turn from the right so they don't have to turn so sharply or slowly, which unfortunately puts a lot of cyclists in their blind spots, especially once they start to angle towards the turn. They need to rework that junction from scratch and not just paint new lines.

Speed bump. Only way to be completely sure people slow down.
This is a perfect case study of awful urbanism. There should be some actual infra to lower car speed at this intersection like speedbumps otherwise it's just a death trap.
