- Join me in this video where I head out before Storm Ciaran moves in and terrorises the Channel Islands! I thought this would be a good time to target some squid and cuttlefish using jigs on a light lure rod. During this session, I go through some very basic techniques which can be very productive when targeting these fascinating creatures.
As the colder weather moves in, the squid fishing should pick up over the coming weeks so I'll be out and about sometime soon to hopefully find that big one! Thanks for watching and see you on the next one 🎣

Really interesting video. I`ve never done or even seen Squid fishing. However, I have recently heard of someone landing a few Squid on feathers off the North Yorkshire coast where I live so maybe its time to give it a try. Nice one Cal!
It’s a fairly easy style of fishing mate. Yea you’ll get them on feathers off a boat, from the shore it’s easier to target them on jigs. You’ll get them in daylight from the shore but most of the time nighttime is better. Give it a try mate, it’s a lot of fun.
It looked like you were going to catch a heap in the beginning Cal. I was hoping you would.do you ever do any recipes using the squids ink. Apparently it is quite popular here in Australia. Keep up the good work, I look forward to your videos
Thanks! Yeah there are quite a few things you can do with the ink but ideally you need them to keep it in 😂 you need to take care when prepping it too and not pierce the ink sack.

Hiya. Do you pay much attention to the moon phases for squid and cuttlefish? I've been told the full moon is good for them but I'm thinking well lit areas must be good too. 👍🎣
For squid, no mate I don’t. Maybe it makes a difference but it’s not something I’d pay much attention to. For other species yes, I’d take the moon phase into consideration.

Hi mate, sorry for the late reply. That reel is a 4000 Sahara. For what I use it for it’s a great reel. I also have the Nasci 4000 too which is a lovely reel. Neither of them compare to the Shimano Vanford though. It’s a lot more expensive but you get what you pay for. I’m a big fan of Shimano reels anyway so I really get along with them.

Hi mate, I use braid. It depends which reel I’m using as to which braid I’ll have one. I’ll use anything from 15lb - 25lb. I think the braid on the reel in this video is from the brand Varivas and it’s 15lb. It’s on veals website.

No it doesn’t harm you mate. It’s edible too. It stains really badly though that’s the only problem.
