As an American living in Italy, I have found that most Italians are quite welcoming while other europeans I meet here are often very condescending. Being able to speak a little of the language helps a lot. In Florence, most American students here do not study any Italian and are often loud and rude. It has unfortunately led to a poor reputation for American students in this city.
I visited Florence last June with my family and we loved it and we were treated so well by the vast majority of the Italians we met. Knowing even a little bit of Italian was helpful. I taught my 12 year old son how to ask for a table in Italian and Viola, no reservations needed! The only time our party of 6 did not get seated was when I asked if we could get a table in English. Whoops. Now if only I can figure out how to get my kids through collage and then be able to retire in Italy. lol
as someone living not far from Florence i sadly confirm it, very loud and rude. p.s. girls...guys stay away, most are mad as cows and super dangerous both, just dont, greetings
I’m surprised at the positive things said. But I don’t mind Italy calling us out on dietary habits. I see it as tough love - not fat shaming. I think the Italian people want to see us do well. Thank you! ❤
Dear Mr. Charlie, good night. I'm a fat italian and i never experienced fat shaming, only some innocent jokes. A fat american wiĺl be welcomed here. I greet you again. ☺️
Im an overweight American and I have always felt healthier and happier with the diet in Italy. Part of the reason I chose to live here. I have been told some harmless jokes about being a porcellina but never were they meant to hurt my feelings.
italians can call out people on all diets, they're the thinnest and the ones who eat the best, they really know how to eat, here in south America we eat like pigs, I wished italians could help us change the way we eat
I'm American and I'm glad that many of them were very thoughtful and positive about the states. I love Italy. It's my favorite European country and Italian food is my favorite cuisine of all time!
I found this very moving. My grandparents came here from Abruzzo, and if they hadn't, I (or whoever would have been born had my father not met my American mother) would still be living there, but I never even visited until I was 42. I fell so in love with Sorrento and Naples that I began visiting every year, Sicily, Puglia, Rome, another week in Naples. Here I am, hoping someday to retire in Italy at least partially because I see things turning very ugly here in the U.S., yet so many Italians have (mostly) positive feelings about us, which I was NOT necessarily expecting. (I wonder if any interviews were left out because the interviewees were like, "Odio gli Stati Uniti!") A few people mentioned wanting to see the entire country, which is how I feel about Italy!
I'm from Los Angeles and it made me so happy to hear many Italians want to come to the West Coast. Hope they do get a chance and take a trip to the west coast, we are very laid back and weather is usually good.
California is not what is was 20 years ago. LA and SF, way too overcrowded, expensive, with high crime and homelessness. They only see the 'nice' parts on tv. I believe if they travel there, they will be very disappointed.
@michaelavery5136 The U.S. is a great country that has it all, ice, mountains, forests, vast prairies, canyons, deserts. Fertile plains, swamps, tropical climate. Pretty much everything, I would live in the summer on the east coast and in the winter on the west coast, but most of all I dream of riding a Harley or an Indian on those immense roads in the deserts, a symbol of freedom. But do you know how many Harleys there are in Italy? Every time you hear a rumble everyone turns to look at it!
@@lenasmith4895 yep, someone from Poland traveled there 2years ago and "she" was scared to go out without her bf it was so bad. But then, its not like bf could do anything, even tho hes 6'3, 220lbs full muscle coz guns exists in america lol
I can't imagine going to another country for any length of time and not learning some of the language. Before visiting Europe I learned basic French and as a result my time in France was wonderful. It gave me the confidence to know I could handle most any situation.
Ciao.
I can’t wait to visit Italy. It was great to watch how Italians expressed themselves of the United States and how much they know. I’ll touchdown first in Naples!
I was very pleasantly surprised to hear people say so many positive things about Americans and the US. Having visited Italy twice, I already knew that many Italians are very knowledgeable about American music, TV, and movies, but this video showed me something new: I had absolutely no idea that there were Italians who avidly followed American sports. And that's probably because I've been bored by team sports my whole life.
I'm german (and learning italian in school at the moment) and i just want to say something about europeans being knowledgeable about american culture. Because it has been a big influence on our culture(s)since i guess the 1950s. Like there are so many translated books, and movies, basically every radio also plays american pop everybody learns english from like 5th grade on (i guess that varys from country to country) in school, the games are shown on tv etc. I have to admit i'm not the biggest fan of the us but thats mainly because of your government (both democrats and Republicans btw. Even though the democrats are obviously better. I just think the two party system sucks) and you living in such a hypercapitalistic country that there are many only poorly educated people who are still conditioned to love their country above everything. It just makes no sense to me, and i also think it could be potentially dangerous for your country becoming facist. Anyway, that was a long rant about poltics i'm sorry i just think it's very interesting to hear diffrent peoples opinions. (Also i can't actually talk for every country, thats just my experience as someone who grew up in southern germany and traveled alot through europe with their parents as a child)
I was surprised too by the positive things the people in this video had to say about America. I did not know Italians were so into American music, and television, sports, and such. I did have to agree with the comments about our dietary problems here, though where I am from (a city on the west coast) most people are trying to become vegans, and vegetarians.
@@teddysaginaw9101 yeah obviously but only having two options while voting and one party is neoliberal and the other one facist kinda sounds like it sucks
@themoon isalwaysthere more like the uniparty. We get the shitty social polices out of the democrats and shitty economics out of the gop. They both love endless war though and for profit healthcare among others. On those they're united. Not going to end well. Unsustainable rn.
Our nation is far from perfect, but it was good to hear the generally positive comments. We love the Italiani, and sometimes our British cousins like Katie! 😘
Grazie mille Italiani! Mi sento sempre così benvenuta in Italia.
This makes me want to go back to Italy faster than I can afford right now. I've always loved the company of Italians. Fino a quando ci incontreremo di nuovo!
This was good to hear. I've been to Italy five times and I have wondered sometimes what they think of us. I like to think I'm somehow special when I'm there because of my Italian surname but to them I'm just another American who only knows a few phrases of their language. I think that as tourists we are sometimes subjected to brusque treatment by people in the "hospitality" industry but this video helps me realize that this may not reflect their opinions of us overall. I have met many very friendly cab drivers, hotel staff, waiters and other random people there and I come home and tell people about them. An older lady in Riomaggiore told me how her generation remembers that American soldiers were good to them after the war. Italians have bigger smiles than I've ever seen in the USA.
I, my wife, and several of our children and grandchildren have visited Italy several times and had great experiences. I remember my first visit (with my wife who is half-Italian ancestry) when I was initially puzzled, saying "Why do they (Italians) do it this way? Why don't they do it that way (for effiiency)." By the second day, I understood... We have been to Milan, Lago Maggiore, Lago Como, Verona, Modena, Bologna, Venice, Florence, Montepulciano, Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi, and of course Rome. All marvelous places! I learned enough Italian to get along in simple conversations, and that was very beneficial. Unfortunately, my pronunciation is very good, so people thought I was fluent and then spoke to me rapid-fire and I was lost.
"Ciascun dal proprio cuor l'altrui misura" is what I have to say after watching this video. I am Lebanese living in Los Angeles since 1982 and I love the people, the food, the beaches, and driving in Italy.🥰
As an American, I found these answers surprising, but in a positive way. I'm glad people can (hopefully) separate people from the actions of government, and am also glad Italian people recognize how very special Italy is to Americans, myself included. Having experienced condescending attitudes from people in some other European countries, it was encouraging to hear these responses. I'm learning Italian not only because the language is beautiful, but also in hope of connecting with the Italian people when I travel to Italy this year.
Awesome video, I love Italians, their culture and history. I sometimes wish my ancestors never immigrated to the States. Italy is the most amazing country I’ve been to so far and I’m coming back for my 3rd visit in October :) I’m checking off each new region as I visit them. Peace and love from the USA!
@@quelodequelo I spent 3 days in Bologna and it was beautiful. Wondering around during the daytime and night was amazing. I didn’t have lasagna, since my previous stop was Genova. I had the best Genovese Pesto lasagna in my life. I decided to go with tortellini alla broda, tagliatelle alla bolognese and some antipasti dishes. I will definitely return soon. :)
Nice video Raffaele! Fun seeing what others say about us. I live in Los Angeles and my wife is from San Francisco originally. If you ever visit (or are interested in a potential home exchange) let me know! We love Napoli and il Sud! Go Lakers!
Please do a video about how Italians in Italy feel about Americans of Italian descent and whether or not they consider them Italian, I love those debates.
@@koschmx I am from Calabria, Reggio Calabria pellaro. I ' v left Italy when I was 18, been in Canada for 65 years, still have family in Milano Calabria Roma and Friuli. Have a good day. I am at work, working in a hospital as a front line worker.
I am surprised by the positive comments the Italians made about Americans. I thought that Europeans, in general, including Italians, think of the "ugly American." Some Americans are not very culturally sophisticated and can be USA-centric, and as tourists, I wonder if we annoy. The Italians interviewed in this video took a generous view of Americans. It was rather encouraging and not what I expected.
Keep in mind that many people in Europe are just unhappy and not educated enough to know about the USA enough to actually be able to judge the country. I am German and many Germans tend to look bad on the USA but I can guarantee you that they have no idea how beautiful and kind hearted Americans are. People who talk badly about others are just unhappy themselves. The USA is a fantastic country and I have met the most kind-hearted people there, always willing to help. People who talk down on Americans are not worth my time because they are close-minded, havent even lived in the USA and make judgements based on what they see on the media. Everyone who has lived in the USA or has visited knows what an innovative country it is and with great entrepreneur opportunities, people are just jealous!! Look at the amazing nature in USA, all the great food options, opportunities and great network connections you can make as Americans are always willing to give you a chance.
@@truthseeker4084 It's funny you should mention general ignorance like that. Years ago I visited Paris and was warned at how terrible Parisians are to Americans. I was kind of nervous and I prepared myself. I also went out of my way to not be the kind of American tourist they were expecting and I had a wonderful time, everyone was so kind and if I needed help I would open the interaction with a French greeting and they were happy to help.
As a European, I feel like most of the hate comes from people on the internet, or people who have never even met an American irl. I have met some as customers and to me they're mostly just like any other people, although generally they tend to be nicer and more generous
Well, glad you found so many that like our country -- and know the difference between what our leaders do & what the people do. [And special props to that one older man, who had the good taste to like our jazz! 😁] Nice contrast to the overall impression our own media is painting of us these days. Really tests that American positivity!
Talking with all the Americans in the comments down here, it seems pretty clear that all these people are being nice and not mentioning any bad things that may come to mind. But anyone who is somewhat informed knows about: -the enormous homeless population in your big metropolitan areas, enough to be comparable in size to entire cities. -High crime rates and widespread violence, an unsettling amount of firearms and other weapons present everywhere, skyrocketing drugs abuse, societal polarization and extremism. -Your car-centric society with its unsightly urban planning and zoning, being one of the major players in the absence of basic means of public transport. -Immense disparities in wealth distribution and all that comes with it, such as land ownership. -Your healthcare system isn't a system to begin with, and it's an inflated business protected by forces from above, despite what the name suggests, it doesn't "care" about your "health". It's strictly related to your insurance and pharmaceutical systems, all connected and rotten to the core, in a symbiotic relationship with eachother and your politics just like your arms manufacturers... lobbying, investments, "donations". A grand orchestra lead by its great director: money... and to money they answer, not people. -Cancel culture, "wokeness", a generalized degradation of morals. -Let's not even talk about your foreign politics, from full on wars to coups, assassinations, kidnappings, torture, funding terrorists and rebel groups, proxy wars, "peacekeeping" missions, coercion, sanctions, experiments, even on large scale, covered up events, silenced people, influenced media etc .... The list goes on and on.... Yes I'm looking especially at you Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), an essay hundreds of pages long wouldn't be enough for all of this. There are of course many good things about the US too, all of the above is simply to say that like any other country, the US is far from perfect. So many people don't like how Americans think of their country as if it's in a league of its own, "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave baby, 'Murica f@*k yeah!!🦅🇺🇲🦅". Land of the absolute superlatives, biggest, strongest, richest, freest, most this, most that etc...
We're all just so accustomed to negativity (from within and without) that it was nice, for a moment, to listen to such kindness; especially from Italians, who are a kindred connection to many of us. Incidentally, it is your comment that wins the "mostest" prize here. 🙄
👏eventually after dozens of comments, someone who tell it like it is. All these naive and innocent fellow citizens are packed with mass culture bullshits, hiding the essence.
All very positive and polite. I was surprised no one said "guns" and only one person mentioned war when they think of America. Maybe they don't get the same news we do.
Haha as an American this is great. I am not surprised at all by what they said. Especially the stuff about diet, health, immigration problems, and excess.Their was some random interesting things like Miley Cyrus 😂😆 but i think it's so interesting Italian come to America to see skyscrapers. I've lived with them my whole life but I never thought what it would be like living in a city or area without them. Meanwhile I've been to Italy twice (about to go my 3rd time in May) and I always love the little villages and quite places. But also the chaos of Napoli and Rome. Italy is such a beautiful place. But nice to hear interest of Italians wanting to visit the USA. I am learning Italian so your videos are always awesome. And great to finally see what Italians think of us American 😂😂😂
Well, those are Neapolitans which are quite peculiar compared to people in other parts of Italy. Every city is always have been a world on its own here, with huge differences even at small distances.
As an Italian born woman who lives on Canada for a very long time, I can day yes, true, italy and the Italians are a very welcoming people, friendly, caring, classy with finesse, elegance and the best cousine on the planet. I am very proud of my heritage and all the people that makes us Italians who we are. I live in Canada, i am a proud Italian and proud Canadian citizen. And having said so, now may I say welcome to my land of birth, the peninsula with great people 😄❤️ and a thousands upon thousands of years of history. I got excited seeing a guy wearing a NYY jacket, but he didn't even mention to NYY nor baseball😂 I guess a varsity jacket is just a cool fashion item for him
This is commonplace in other countries. Japan has a fashion trend right now of wearing American cities or colleges but then never having been there or likely knowing much about it lol.

USA isn’t really multicultural(that’s more Canada), but it is very multiracial. The thing is when people are born in the USA they usually adapt to the broader American culture.
When I was in Firenze, very few spoke English and me, with my very little knowledge of the language, was not able to communicate very well. I made a call to a cab company, and they hung up on me. I don't blame them. Next time I go, I will be sure to know more of the language. The host of the Airbnb I stayed at didn't speak English at all, LOL. They were very nice. The one bloke who mentioned Santa Cruz!! I grew up there. I'm in Santa Barbara now

I spent a couple of weeks in Umbria this year. I speak Italian at an A2 level perhaps, certainly not well. But I always got a good reaction from Italians for trying, even the Italians who speak English well, and for whom my clumsy Italian must have been tiring,. It's very easy to strike up conversations there, especially in the countryside. I didn't encounter any anti-Americanism, even though I know that many American students and tourists do not behave respectably abroad. So, in my experience, Italians don't judge by stereotypes and take people as individuals.
I'd be interested to hear what Americans say about European countries. I can't think of one that i dislike, even Sweden, whose citizens sampled elsewhere seem to hate us. 🙂 It's ok though....I'm pretty sure that the U.S. doesn't hate any of you all. Largely because we're such a diverse culture. We often know Swedes, Danes, Germans etc. personally right here in the U.S....even Russians. We're all friends. 👍
i hate to break it to Raffaele, but he would be best off saving his money if he wants to come to San Fran and L.A. LOL seriously! for those who aren't aware, crime has gone through the roof in both of those cities and it's pretty bad. Homelessness, drug use, etc etc. I've heard that neither city is what it once was. I'm glad i visited San Fran in 2003 when it was still most of the way decent.
Some crime rates have gone up slightly in California, but it isn't what many people would like you to beleive. There is a narrative created by Fox News and conservatives that liberal cities are terrible. This is rediculous. Floridas homicide rate was roughly 50 percent higher than New York’s in 2021. San Francisco and Seattle - have roughly half the murder rates as Southern big cities. If crime is what you're worried aboiut stay away from Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina, Missouri, Illinois, Maryland, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Georgia. California's gun death rate is 43% lower than the rest of the nation because they have strict gun control laws.
Le influenze italiane esistono ovunque, al punto che forse sono state assorbite dalla cultura di qui: musica, lingua, moda, trasporti, technology (I just learned that it was an Italian who invented the microchip and did so in the U.S.A.), e ovviamente cibo! So sorry about the whole fettucine alfredo thing! 🤣
I was amused by the fact that many people in the video seemed more aware of Italian Americans -- and especially Italians of Neapolitan ancestry -- than people of other origins.
@@buckyharris9465 I thought that was interesting as well. It seems they haven't forgotten those who left - so many who were from Napoli and southern Italy in general.
Don't be naive, this is a language learning channel not a political one. They could not keep the comments that were too negative or politically touchy.
It would be my dream, from deserts to the highest mountains, from canyons to forests. 5 million inhabitants in a territory almost as big as Italy. Nature and freedom
In reality..NY and LA and Chicago are no longer safe, no longer tourist mecca's. The Italians do not realize how lucky they are living in Italy.. Multi - cultural sounds good, until you experience it.
As an American, when I watch videos like this where people in other countries want to visit New York, Chicago and LA in particular I wish I could tell every single one of them the movies are a lie. Those places are full of homelessness, crime, trash and nowhere I would ever tell a foreigner to visit any of these places. I know these cities are portrayed as great, but to me they are the worst. There is so many other beautiful and culturally rich places to visit and see besides those. PLEASE do some research my Italian friends!
I’m actually surprised by the cities many of these Italians say they wanted to visit, that window of opportunity is gone in many of those cities, especially Chicago and San Francisco. I’d gear them more towards the areas they likely don’t know about or the places that are up and coming, like Texas, Nashville, the states with the national parks that are not over crowded. I think Miami is a good choice, Santa Cruz is not as bad as the rest of California (coming from a Californian), maybe visit Boston for historical context but I think that the mindset they’re looking for is more cultural influences. Right now NYC isn’t ideal, LA is dystopian, Portland and Seattle are not fairing well, and hell no to Chicago and San Francisco. I beg tourists to stay away from those cities, if you do go there you better have a friend who will look after you!
When I was young I was optimistic about the USA like the interviewees, now that I am older and more mature I think it is the last place in the world I would like to visit.
I live close to Santa Cruz, California, not only is cold but theres very little to view!! Italia has WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better places to visit that California beaches
Well, i think the best italian towns are Venice, Florence , Milano, Catanzaro and Napoli. I'm quite sad for Venice since i'ts gonna be submerged by sea level in a few decades due to climate change 😢
No, those are the most touristy, it is the provincial towns that are the most beautiful, Verona Como, Siena, Mantua, central Italy, and also in the south.

Agree and san diego is better than both!
I worry about the state California is in at the moment, especially San Francisco.
Ciao.
Honestly surprised at the generally positive comments. I figured we were in for a rough one lol. Viva italia one day hope to visit.
I can’t wait to visit Italy. It was great to watch how Italians expressed themselves of the United States and how much they know. I’ll touchdown first in Naples!
Naples ♥
I love your videos! And today I decided to post a comment… sending hugs from San Diego, California!
@@themoonisalwaysthere8746 bro the democrats are not obviously better.

Ti aspettiamo presto allora!
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Europe in general has a great deal of civilization and history
As an American, I found these answers surprising, but in a positive way. I'm glad people can (hopefully) separate people from the actions of government, and am also glad Italian people recognize how very special Italy is to Americans, myself included. Having experienced condescending attitudes from people in some other European countries, it was encouraging to hear these responses. I'm learning Italian not only because the language is beautiful, but also in hope of connecting with the Italian people when I travel to Italy this year.
You'll surely have a wonderful time there! 😊
I love Italy love the people I have many Italian friends and as an American seeing this video it makes me really happy 😊🇺🇸❤️🇮🇹

Grazie Raffaele per questo bellissimo video
Talking with all the Americans in the comments down here, it seems pretty clear that all these people are being nice and not mentioning any bad things that may come to mind.
But anyone who is somewhat informed knows about:
-the enormous homeless population in your big metropolitan areas, enough to be comparable in size to entire cities.

Thanks for sharing your experience, glad it was good for you!
I think too many of us are too uninformed to offer an opinion, although it doesn't stop them from offering one.
i hate to break it to Raffaele, but he would be best off saving his money if he wants to come to San Fran and L.A. LOL seriously! for those who aren't aware, crime has gone through the roof in both of those cities and it's pretty bad. Homelessness, drug use, etc etc. I've heard that neither city is what it once was. I'm glad i visited San Fran in 2003 when it was still most of the way decent.
Exactly
They would be bummed. For California I would suggest newport beach and laguna beach. No vagrants around like in the other areas.
E dopo, vi raccomando visitare Atlanta, dove ora vengono girati molti film, soprattutto i Marvel.

My best singer :- Giucy Ferreri
Try to make an interview with singers like her
The same question was asked to French people, they were more honest.
Very romanticized lol. Probably a good idea to avoid Chicago for awhile. Naples is safer!
Agree.
Comme si chiama questo presentatore? A volte c'è Matteo e Katty.
What American People think about Italy and What Italian People think about United States
When I was young I was optimistic about the USA like the interviewees, now that I am older and more mature I think it is the last place in the world I would like to visit.
Italians and Americans have always had great relations? Hardly... it was a life choice. Choose life... it's the italian way.
Much more positive than the Dutch.
E non c'e nessono que voglia andare a Cleveland?

No one wants to visit DC? I don't blame them, I live in the DC suburbs and I don't want to ever step foot in DC as well.
I live close to Santa Cruz, California, not only is cold but theres very little to view!! Italia has WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better places to visit that California beaches
In Italy we have a saying, it goes "The neighbor's grass is always greener"
god bless
Part2 what do Americans think about Italians.
It’s amazing how misinformed they are. It makes me check myself realizing that I don’t actually know much about Italy or any other country.
New York non è tipico americano.
Is anyone in Italy familiar with an American named Jim Messina ?
Who is Jim Messina?
@@alexp8764 He is a classic rock and country folk musician singer songwriter and was a member of the band POCO and duo Loggins and Messina ..
