  • Here’s a quick video of my DIY kayak cart for my Ascend H12. I got this idea from Karen Charlier who posted it in the Ascend H10/12 owners group on the book face. It’s a great idea that not only works well and is cheap, but it’s a super easy build too!
    Hope you like it!

I'm building one for my H12 YESTERDAY! I bought mine used with a chinzy dolly that makes carrying it on my back a better option, and I'm not peeling the cash for a c-tug. Thanks for posting the video!

Wildfowler85 it’s an easy straight forward build. I’ve used the crap outta mine since I’ve made it. Makes life much easier! Best wishes on your build!

Got a notification from Conner O asking where I got the wheels.
Idk why I can’t find your comment/question, but they are from harbor freight.

I just got a H12 and love it, definitely need a cart. Would it be a good idea to make the top pieces longer than 8” or does it interfere with it somehow? “Seems” like longer would be more supportive…..?
Wish there was a shot of you loading it on the cart

I don’t know that it would need more support, but 2-4” longer overall on the hull support certainly wouldn’t anything I guess. What I’ve noticed more so after all this time of using the cart is that I’d make it maybe 1-2” shorter. It would help with putting a loaded kayak on the cart coming off the water. If you look at my other videos you’ll see my H12 when loaded is pretty heavy, so I’ve figured out how to put my cart under my kayak while it’s still in the water so I don’t have to try to pick up the kayak to put it on the cart. I hope that makes sense. If you’re just carting your H12 and some light gear then that cart as is will tow just about anywhere. God bless!

New commenter here: So you drill a hole in the end caps and feed the threaded tire rod through for the wheels correct? And the pipes are all cut to size with a saw? I have limited tools and as you can see, limid mechanical knowledge. Lol.

Correct. Drill the centers out of the outer “axle caps”. Then I used a nylock type nut on 5/8” all thread (the axle) just inside the cap (along with the outer nut for the wheel) to keep the all thread axle from floating side to side. Just keep everything loose enough to be free. So far I haven’t had an issue of the all thread eating at the pvc cap, but I figure that’s a “wearable” part.

How long is the all thread

I built this today almost identical to yours. Sits at a severe angle and trying to get the kayak on it and have the cart fall to get level is kind of annoying, what’s the trick? Add a kickstand maybe?

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345  Рік тому

There’s a learning curve with the cart for sure, but I’ve considered a “kick stand” of sorts as well. Something on the cart that would be toward the front of the kayak so it wouldn’t interfere widen picking up the front of the kayak.

@@thestonesaver6345 I ended up cutting a small piece of 2x4 a few inches shorter than the total height of the cart, then cut a notch in the top to cradle the pvc pipe, and now the cart sits at a slight angle. Once the kayak is loaded up, a slight push and the 2x4 falls free, works great

Hi, I have the Ascend H10 and I was wondering if you could possibly list everything that I would need to make this? I'm not that good at building things but I would like to try and make this on my own. Also, if you could possibly tell me where purchased the wheels...I would really appreciate it.

I went over the parts list a couple of times in my video. The wheels came from harbor freight for about $5 each. The all thread for the axle was purchased at Home Depot for about $9. Everything else is 8” sections of 1.25” pvc, 4 t connectors and 4 end caps.

do you know if the tunnel part of the H12 is the same width as the H10? I have the H10 and want to make this for it

I do believe the hulls are identical aside from length.

I hunt ducks out of my H12 and I have yet to find a way to get my yak to the water without dragging it. I am going to try this method and see how it works.

Feathers and Fishhooks it’s strong enough to haul my H12 fully loaded for a weekend trip. I think you’ll like it!
