  • Enjoy a rundown of my Ascend H12. Fully customized by yours truly. Made specifically for yours truly.
    My winter was filled with designing and fabricating everything for a trolling motor setup. From mount to PWM, and batteries to rigging.
    I’ve had a few people ask me about my kayak so I wanted to show off my work. I’m super happy with this kayak and I can’t wait to start cranking out more fishing videos! (This transom mount design has been patented by #castinandcookin)
    Thanks y’all! Stay tuned!

    That is a badass build man!! One kick ass yak!!! I've got the h10 and freaking love it. Added a rear mount too with 55lb motor and 100ah life po4 battery...controlled by extended tiller handle but looking to upgrade to a pwm. Any advice or recommendations on a pwm build? Certain brand or amperage for my setup?
    Thanks!

      Thank you!
      I used a cheap Amazon PWM (60a continuous 100a max) for my little 28lb minnkota. Which draws about 30a max. I also have a 40lb motor (40a draw) that I’m scared to run because I don’t want to fry my “cheapo” PWM. I’ve heard many who have had issues because the Amazon cheapo’s are over rated for capacity.
      I’m hearing now that guys are using ESC’s with much better luck, but I haven’t spent the YT time to research them yet.

    Dude this set up is so sweet! I am assuming you are not a really big guy that stuff sounds like it’s a lot of weight. I am big boy and I got the h12 but don’t honk I could ad so much stuff do to the weight limit capacity

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I’m 275lbs. My battery is 25lbs. Motor and PWM is 5-8lbs. Fishing gear is 30lbs. Maxed with anchor and everything for a “full day” I’m around 375lbs total. Add camping gear and extra food and I’ve pushed 425lbs in it. (I’ve probably come close to, or surpassed, the 450 a few times) I can still stand in it when I’m super maxed. On dead calm reservoirs that is. With any chop I won’t be standing, but that’s more of my balance than the kayak. Then I’ll be unloading a lot of weight after getting to, and setting up, camp so fishing is always around 375lbs. Very “stand up-able” for me. The H12 is essentially a “light capacity” canoe. With my 275 it takes another 175lb to “max it”. That’s a lot of stuff. 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

      Man I weigh 350ish I could probably do a couple mod those things. I also have seen some pontoon things for adding stability to kayaks that probably add some weight capacity. I just took mine out for the first time yesterday and made a little video for my channel. It will be going on some fishing adventures that’s for sure and possibly some waterfowl hunting after I get more comfortable with it.

      @@chefbarryriverchef7705 I’ll check your video out for sure! The outriggers would add some stability but wouldn’t increase capacity. Capacity is based on displacement. Outriggers don’t add displacement. Just side to side stability.

      I have seen many folks use different products and methods for keel guards. I went with the sch40 PVC because It was cheap because I had it and it’s very strong. Many who use tape type products are always replacing them while the PVC is still holding up and going strong!

      @@baeNjae I built my kayak to have everything removable because I rooftop haul it anywhere I go, but once it’s all rigged up I would guess that the batteries, trolling motor and all other additions it adds about 50lbs to the kayak. How can I get a motor mount?

  • @junkmunky03
    @junkmunky03 3 роки тому +1

    Did you take it out on the water before you put all the upgrades on the kayak and if so how much of a difference in stability could you tell when you stand up and in general how stable is the kayak for standing up and giving your legs a stretch or something

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345  3 роки тому +1

      Yes. I had many trips out in it before I did any upgrades. There is a bit of a difference in stability, but keep in mind that I’m a big dude to start. I’m 275. Add in everything else and I have an easy 350lbs in a kayak with a 450lbs capacity. So when I’m fully loaded I can certainly tell a difference in stability. When I’m fully loaded I can still stand, but I don’t cast or fish while standing, but with one rod and a paddle I will stand a cast. I feel that’s partly because I’m afraid to flop when I’m fully loaded and could care less when I’m fishing light... so it could be a mental thing. Idk. Lol
      With that all being said I still think it’s extremely stable.

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345  3 роки тому +2

      Well... I paid $450 for the H12 used. The trolling motors were given to me because they were assumed to be “no good”. With all the lights, wiring, trolling motor plate, PWM, trolling motor rebuild parts, cart, keel guards, anchor light, power box and trolling motor battery, and anything else I missed...I’d guess all in all I’m at around $1000-$1200 and around 40 hrs in everything. Which, compared to the price of some new kayaks, isn’t bad in my opinion. Especially for a fully custom kayak built specifically for me and the types of fishing I do.
