Ascend (H12) with me!
Enjoy a rundown of my Ascend H12. Fully customized by yours truly. Made specifically for yours truly.
My winter was filled with designing and fabricating everything for a trolling motor setup. From mount to PWM, and batteries to rigging.
I’ve had a few people ask me about my kayak so I wanted to show off my work. I’m super happy with this kayak and I can’t wait to start cranking out more fishing videos! (This transom mount design has been patented by #castinandcookin)
Thanks y’all! Stay tuned!

Cold water crappie and cussin’ headwinds

Here’s my November 22nd attempt to catch as many crappie as I did the previous Thursday (Nov 19th). Wind and finicky crappie made for a tough day, but I still got a few for the pan! Lots of tips and info in this video, so I hope it helps someone. Best wishes y’all!

Quick video on my camp fire pulled pork. Had a little issue with my temps, but adapted and overcame to end up with some good sammiches. I posted this to show that even with great prep and experience food doesn’t always turn out as expected, but with some patience and know how it can almost always be saved. Plus it’s a learning experience! Hope you enjoy!

      @@baeNjae I built my kayak to have everything removable because I rooftop haul it anywhere I go, but once it’s all rigged up I would guess that the batteries, trolling motor and all other additions it adds about 50lbs to the kayak. Since the capacity of the kayak is 450lbs it doesn’t really affect the handling very much if at all, and I can still stand up in it and load it up even more for weekend kayak camping trips with no concerns.

    I built this today almost identical to yours. Sits at a severe angle and trying to get the kayak on it and have the cart fall to get level is kind of annoying, what’s the trick? Add a kickstand maybe?

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345 Рік тому

      There’s a learning curve with the cart for sure, but I’ve considered a “kick stand” of sorts as well. Something on the cart that would be toward the front of the kayak so it wouldn’t interfere widen picking up the front of the kayak.

    • @bluegill2030
      @bluegill2030 Рік тому

      @@thestonesaver6345 I ended up cutting a small piece of 2x4 a few inches shorter than the total height of the cart, then cut a notch in the top to cradle the pvc pipe, and now the cart sits at a slight angle. Once the kayak is loaded up, a slight push and the 2x4 falls free, works great

  • @bluegill2030
    @bluegill2030 Рік тому

    I just got a H12 and love it, definitely need a cart. Would it be a good idea to make the top pieces longer than 8” or does it interfere with it somehow? “Seems” like longer would be more supportive…..? Wish there was a shot of you loading it on the cart

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345 Рік тому

      I don’t know that it would need more support, but 2-4” longer overall on the hull support certainly wouldn’t anything I guess. What I’ve noticed more so after all this time of using the cart is that I’d make it maybe 1-2” shorter. It would help with putting a loaded kayak on the cart coming off the water. If you look at my other videos you’ll see my H12 when loaded is pretty heavy, so I’ve figured out how to put my cart under my kayak while it’s still in the water so I don’t have to try to pick up the kayak to put it on the cart. I hope that makes sense. If you’re just carting your H12 and some light gear then that cart as is will tow just about anywhere. God bless!

I also have a 40lb motor (40a draw) that I’m scared to run because I don’t want to fry my “cheapo” PWM. I’ve heard many who have had issues because the Amazon cheapo’s are over rated for capacity. • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345 3 роки тому

      Correct. Drill the centers out of the outer “axle caps”. Then I used a nylock type nut on 5/8” all thread (the axle) just inside the cap (along with the outer nut for the wheel) to keep the all thread axle from floating side to side. Just keep everything loose enough to be free. So far I haven’t had an issue of the all thread eating at the pvc cap, but I figure that’s a “wearable” part.

      Thank you! I’m 275lbs. My battery is 25lbs. Motor and PWM is 5-8lbs. Fishing gear is 30lbs. Maxed with anchor and everything for a “full day” I’m around 375lbs total. Add camping gear and extra food and I’ve pushed 425lbs in it. (I’ve probably come close to, or surpassed, the 450 a few times) I can still stand in it when I’m super maxed. On dead calm reservoirs that is. With any chop I won’t be standing, but that’s more of my balance than the kayak. Then I’ll be unloading a lot of weight after getting to, and setting up, camp so fishing is always around 375lbs. Very “stand up-able” for me. The H12 is essentially a “light capacity” canoe. With my 275 it takes another 175lb to “max it”. That’s a lot of stuff. 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345 3 роки тому

      Yes. I had many trips out in it before I did any upgrades. There is a bit of a difference in stability, but keep in mind that I’m a big dude to start. I’m 275. Add in everything else and I have an easy 350lbs in a kayak with a 450lbs capacity. So when I’m fully loaded I can certainly tell a difference in stability. When I’m fully loaded I can still stand, but I don’t cast or fish while standing, but with one rod and a paddle I will stand a cast. I feel that’s partly because I’m afraid to flop when I’m fully loaded and could care less when I’m fishing light... so it could be a mental thing. Idk. Lol With that all being said I still think it’s extremely stable.

      @@olhesty2196 I didn’t have any problems with the sch40. I would use my heat gun to heat the ripple and flatten it out. Ripples may be a downside to using the heavier sch80.

    I need tips on cooking this picnic roast my neighbor gave me

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345 4 роки тому

      Scott Lamb really depends on the size. Either way I’d start by coating it with 1 part salt / 1 part pepper / 1/2 part garlic powder / 1/2 part onion powder. Cover it all real nice and leave it in your fridge for 24 hrs (flipping at least once) before cooking. Dry brining will help season and tenderize the beef.

    Are they both Apeman A79? The camera in the back looks better..

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345 4 роки тому

      Yes both identical A79’s. The footage difference was because I was still experimenting with the settings on each camera for this video. I’ve now adopted the settings on the rear camera for both cameras. Good eye!

      @@thestonesaver6345 what settings do you recommend?

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345 3 роки тому

      @@XzIpK the important settings are very specific to lighting conditions. Those really just take practice, but I do recommend always checking the EIS and audio settings before recording. I’ve lost lots of footage because I had the audio turned off. The EIS is more a battery life thing.

      @@thestonesaver6345 Thanks for the info! I been messing around with it, video quality is pretty good with enough light. I did just find out when you use the external mic the internal one stays on as well so causes some issues for me when mounting the camera on my car.

    Does the cam come with the mount to attach to a hat?

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345 4 роки тому

      nevets68 Yes. The Apeman A79 comes with multiple different mounts.

    • @thestonesaver6345
      @thestonesaver6345 4 роки тому

      I did however fabricate my hat myself. I drilled a 1/4” hole in the brim and used one of the supplied 1/4” threaded flush mounts. I bought two cameras and I have one of the camera boxes full of all the extra mounts I have from buying two cameras. If you buy the A79 you shouldn’t need any extra mounts unless you needed a specific kind of mount for some reason. Hope that helps a little more. 👍🏻
