GPX got a few good reviews for being decently priced and demand went up and they increased their prices so hight thats its better to stick with the name brands. Awesome video, appreciate the honest review.
Thanks for a really balanced and fair-minded review. You didn't rant. Instead, your comments were more than reasonable, and it sounds like you've also been very patient. It was an excellent account of your experience with the issues on the bike. Incidentally, a bill for the missing engine parts is outrageous. Who'd want to do business with a bike shop like that? For my part, I was looking at buying a GPX, but I'll definitely pass now! Instead, I'm going to do as you suggested: get a used European/Japanese bike!
I was seriously considering one of these recently and would have pulled the trigger if it weren't for the price increase to nearly $7,000. In the end, I figured it was a safer bet to pay a bit more and got a Honda CRF450L used with only 750 miles. Yes, it did have a snatchy throttle and I did dump another $700 for a new aftermarket ECU, but I feel I have a better bike than the GPX ever would have been. Thanks for putting out an honest review.
I think the price is my main gripe. At around 4500 bucks, yeah it may be a decent option. But they have priced themselves out of the market they created.
I would have went with a Honda as well, especially for the kind of $ they are asking. Honda or Yamaha for me, never even been a question. I’ve owned them all literally and between Blue and Red you can’t go wrong.
Can’t go wrong with a Honda. If you ever do feel you want more than the 300L has to offer, Honda has a bike for you. But honestly, unless you’re really going hard core off road, the 300L is just fine. Maybe needs a suspension upgrade (it would for MY fat ass, but all bikes do!) but otherwise a great all around dual sport bike
Thanks John. I tried to give them a fair shake but it didn't work out. Hopefully I can save others from making my same mistake. Let me know when your guys ride date is! We can't wait to get back there this year.
Wow! Was seriously considering one of these but not now. Sounds like they grew too quickly and just don't care about thier customers anymore. Thank you for the information.
'19 GPX TSE250R owner. During ownership, I purchased brand new a ktm 500 2022 model. Guess what bike I kept... the chinese POS as many claim. I've ridden the hell out of this bike, my father in law has ridden the hell out of this bike. Zero issues. I've heard many having fuel injection issues with the 450, i'd stay away from it.
Very much appreciated your honest review. It sounds like you are very mechanically inclined. Not to mention your family owns an exhaust shop. Can you imagine someone who is not mechanically inclined buying this GPX 450, they would park the bike and never attempt to fix all those problems. Thanks for the heads-up and warning. I was going to buy one, but bought a DRZ409S instead. Sounds like I made the right choice.
I was considering one of those bikes back in '21, but I just couldn't get past the price for what I would be getting, and I wasn't sure if I could really trust a chinese bike, even though it seemed to be higher quality than other chinese bikes. Anyway, I'm just so glad that I decided against it. Instead, I ended up buying a used Honda CRF450X and it's been great.
Kind of an interesting story I ended up having to Lemon Law a KTM 690r for engine defect issues. I know this would seem counterproductive but I think that Chinese manufacturers introduce a bit of issues when they go to fuel injection route. I think it's easier to make a carburetor run well enough but with an EFI it has to be bang on
Hi, i'm just bought the 450 in the UK where they are £5795 new. Although i bought an ex demo bike with 100 miles already on it. I believe a lot has improved in the 2023 model, plus we don't have the engine power restrictions over here. I'll only be using mine for trail/dual sport riding, i'm hoping to get some videos recorded soon.
@@mariuszuk79So far so good, i havn't had any of the issues in the video. My only dislike is the clutch won't fully disengage, it's better when the engine is hot but when trying slower technical riding i feel it still pulling a bit. I've had no problem with gpx uk either. I've got a few videos on my channel, but i recommend contacting gpx to find a dealer near you to look at them yourself.
I almost pulled the trigger to purchase the 450 this coming week. Thank you so much for telling your story. Probably go with a used Husky or KTM. Glad I didn’t spend my hard earned money before I saw this video.
Never go full Chinese my friend ! I remember reading about this somewhere on Facebook. I also once considered one after selling my DRZ but found a good deal on a 19 CRF450l with all the goodies already. I'm so glad I did, love the red machine ....
Right, there's no way I would waste money on a chinese bike, no matter how "high quality" they might seem. And you'll never go wrong with buying a good used Japanese bike, especially a Honda CRF
My DRZ has been bulletproof over the past 15yrs .....looking to get a new one while rebuilding the 35k mi engine , that is showing very little decline . 👌👍
I had a similar issue with this company but not as bad as yours. I had a TSE 250r. On the first ride, the nut that holds the kick starter on and the c-clip that holds on the shift arm that comes out of the top of the clutch cover magically disappeared. Contacted GPX to order parts and paid a hefty shipping fee but not a big deal. Several weeks later no parts. Contacted Gary and he said he would take care of it. More time passed and the parts never arrived. Contacted them again, Got the apology and they said parts were on their way. Eventually got something in the mail but it was only the C-clip. The nut I paid for never came. (which isn't a standard size I could just pick up at a hardware store) Finally after almost a year of not having a kick starter on my bike I just special ordered a 5 pack of nuts online with the correct thread pitch and had to mill it down myself at work to match the thickness of the stock one. Also around halfway through my ownership of the bike I decided to order a spare oil injection pump because mine was leaking a little. Paid a little under $100 for the pump and shipping. A month went by and no pump. Talked to Gary again. Also mentioned I never received the kickstarter nut I paid for half a year ago along with the oil pump from a month ago. He of course said he would take care of it. Another month passes, no items. Contacted again to get the same dog and pony show. Waited another month, still nothing. Final time contacting them asking for the items I paid for or a refund of my money at least. Gary said he would take care of it personally. I thought that would do it. Well guess what. I never got the items I paid for and never got my money back. After that I just sold the bike and bought a new 2022 KTM 300 XC-W. To be clear, I did really like riding my GPX. Raced it in some enduro races and the bike was good enough for me. Unfortunately the customer service I received left a very bad taste in my mouth. I would find it hard to trust or give my money to this company again.
Thanks for sharing! It's sad to this this same story repeated over and over again. Definitely gives you a good reason why these bikes come up for sale with almost no miles on them.
I bought the FSE 450 back when it was "cheap". I've been romping it around the backwoods for the last couple years and had only a few, minimal issues. I fixed my fuel pump issue by hard wiring the wires to the ignition wires (ignition on = fuel pump on). I didn't know it was due to a relay lol. I consider the GPX to be fairly light weight with a wet weight of 290lbs. Honda's CRF300 is 310lbs KLX 300 is 302lbs. I like GPX's long suspension travel 12 inches vs 10 inches KLX and CRF. I like the maintenance intervals of the Zongshen 450 vs CRF and KLX. I don't like the way the GPX's EFI? throttle responds to downhills. You can't simply give it a tiny amount of throttle, it engages hard. I'll be doubly sure to keep a close eye on my wheel bearings. Honda just released a new XR150l, maybe they will release some more long maintenance interval XRs in larger bore.
Shame it didn't workout for you bud. A lot has changed in the short period of time since you had the GPX. My 2 stroke TSE 250 2022 has been hammered up to 150hrs and still runs great. A few carb issues in the early days but I now have an XTNG carb which sorted jetting out. I also addressed a few things from a build point of view to suit my taste and make it more durable for race conditions but the basic bike was pretty good. I have two KTM's as well, 2019 300 TPI and a 2017 450 EXCF. Both these bikes are great but so is my GPX I have a lot of fun on it, it's my most used bike. At under 5K I knew it would not be a half price KTM but I took my chances like you did with the 450. Like you said a lot of issues with the 450 have now been addressed but that did not help you with the earlier bike. As far as the engine replacement issue situation I can understand the bitter taste you have been left with. I work on a lot of European bikes and they have some design flaws like plastic oil pump gears , poorly produced electrics and frame faults. Its quite surprising at times and makes me think is there ever a good egg out there, some bikes never have issues but some are lemons. As far as Jap bikes go I've not worked on one for years but yes they are generally pretty good but a little dated. Good Luck and Keep Riding Dude.👍
I recently purchased a 2022 Kayo 250 K6-EFI new from the dealer, at the time they had it listed for $4,999.00. After negotiating back and forth for about a month, I got them to come way down on price and I ended up paying just over $3k for the bike. $3,042.69. I also got them to throw in a new helmet to go with it for free! Now at that price for a bran new fuel injected 4 stroke dirt bike, I was happy! And was willing to take a risk of purchasing a Chinese brand bike. And I gotta be honest, I’m pretty happy with the bike! I’ve made a few modifications and added some legal accessories, gone through the whole process of getting it registered, licensed, insured, and it’s officially street legal in the state of Texas! - loopholes required - It’s definitely been a fun lil city rippin’ Supermoto! I hate to hear all the troubles you had to go through with the people at GPX. That’s just bad business! I myself, along with many others alike, sure do appreciate the heads up information and fair warning about the company. Cheers, and God Bless.
That's great to hear! In all honesty, I was perfectly content with it as a trail/dualsport bike. And even with it blowing up racing, I was still a fan. Just the way my issue was handled left me with a bad taste.
Great points. I had heard some good things and some bad, but at the now $7,000 sticker price... INSANE ! Save up another $2,000 and you can have a brand new Honda 450, or for the same price as the GPX you can get a KTM 500 just a few years old.
@@TraveladvRajanSRai I am seeing them for just over $9K USD here, new. If you want to save a few bucks go used with under 500 miles, $8K USD. Japanese reliability and parts availability for not much more $ is a no-brainer. Lets look at this in just China bike perspective... GPX FSE 450 for $7K or KOVE 450 Rally for $2K more? That GPX still good value for money at $7K ? Nope.
They are a small new company. They did make a bunch of revisions. Unfortunately the rubber handlebar mounts caused the bolts to loosen and the impact on a loose bolt caused it to snap. Zeta aluminum spacers replace the rubber. The crate motor should have been sent back or your parts should have been sent out the day of the conversation. I did buy my bike after witching videos some of the videos were yours
Im using same engine TSE250 2 stroke Chinese make after i sold my KTM 250tpi for some money, a few month i have some issues with the stock carb, to rich and power not consistent beside recitifier problem, I'm really disappointed for a while. Then recitifier issues solve. I'm try and error with some type Carb and now it become flawless and i can follow with big brand name such KTM without any much different. Of course some part they built not as quality like big brand. But that price you pay and you need to upgrade. For some upgrade will make you happy
I've been into bikes for 43 yrs and have owned and raced just about everything Japanese. When a GPX representative told me they charge more for there GPX bikes than a new KLX300R cuz they are a better quality bike when in fact they are unproven I was done right there and then. Keep these bikes for 5-10 yrs and see what happens with them and see what there resale value is like on the market. My 20 yr old used XR650R will crush any GPX model and prob last another 20 yrs with barely any service to it . They are simply selling pipe dreams. Buy yourself a used well kept Japanese bike and you'll be happy!.
That's for sure! Get a used Japanese bike. I still have my '99 XR250R and my '05 DR650, both bought new, and they are STILL excellent bikes and neither have had any real problems. I seriously doubt any of those chinese bikes could last as long, and most definitely wouldn't be able to get parts by then. I can still get parts for my old Honda and Suzuki with no problem at all.
couldnt agree more w you on this one. i would never spend this amount of money on a chinese bike. like you ill stick w japanese and austrian bikes all day everyday.
Pitster is also out of Utah and although they look nice there is no doubt that bikes made in that area of the Orient can't compare to KTM, Husqvarna and such. I had a Pitster 230SC with the 19"/16" wheels and even though I am 6'4" it was fun to putt around on. Those were $2,199
I'll admit I like my GPX's but hearing that on the crate engine makes me go, "Wait wtf?" That ain't right, I haven't had that sort of experience with them but that would make me nope out instantly. Hope you got a bike that's working better for ya and you're still getting some riding in. I still look at your 'Adversys' and I'm like, "I should do that with my Versys...." :)
I was going to order a new 450. Looks like ill go with a used YZ instead. Yea I would love to have it street legal but for the price I may as well buy a used Yamaha. I know those are bullet proof. You buy a new bike to avoid repair headaches!
Yea bro I had a ssr250 as my first bike and it was a pos I’ve had a lot of bikes by now but my favorite so far is my yz426f super fun way more reliable and I put it threw the ringer 😂
They are pushing these in the uk right now but after some research I’m not going to bother, a decent uk Ktm/ Honda will be better in the long run and have a resale value…hanks for the review.
Was considering one of these, alot of rough terrain here in Eastern TN. Going to find a low hrs used trail ridden 250,350cc Japanese,KTM bike, thanks for the review.
Hey I just noticed your video. I thought it was clear that it was a take out motor that was being sent to you, it's my mistake for not making sure it was 100% complete and understood. I never meant to rip you off and felt the 1200 price for the motor was a good deal and I was not aware that a second invoices was sent for parts that where missing from the motor. Anyway I am sorry, we are a small company and sometimes I probably don’t communicate with the parts dept as I should, that’s probably why they sent a invoice for those parts. Regardless I’m sorry for the troubles you had with the bike. You did get one of the first 450’s in the country in early 2020 and we have made vast improvements since that time and also sent warranty replacement parts to the early 450 guys that had issues. Anyway I totally understand your frustrations and I wish it could have ended better for you. We truly value our customers and try to please them. I wish you well with whatever you are doing and appreciate the feedback you’ve given. I’m sorry you feel you've been done wrong, I’m sorry for the miscommunication, I should have done better to make sure you are taken care of.
It's nice to see a company defending their product, I admire that. Hopefully things continue to get better with customer service and quality control. But I'm sticking to my guns on this one and have my mind made up. I don't like how my experience with the bike or communication went and so I'll look at other brands for future projects.
@@wrightcycleworks they definitely got better but at their current price point its better to go for the SWM RS 500 dual sport because its not a clone of a husky, its the actual husky that was made when bmw owned them. after ktm bought husky the plant and tooling in italy was sold to swm who makes modernized huskies with model issue fixes and updates that make them better. they actually made 2020 dual sport of the year for being a $7000 500cc dual sport thats on par with Beta and KTM
are your prices going to remain similar to SWM's 500cc offerings because theyre actual big brand Husqvarna and use their plant and tooling. their bikes are better made and more powerful with actual kyb suspension and brembo brakes. for about $7000
I’m a very fast local rider of salt lake, I’ve considered one but after hearing this.. you’ve been out competed by every used Japanese bike on Craigslist. I got a like new 2005 Crf250r for $950 used. $6000 for a china bike… please leave the state of utah with that bullshit! Greedy bastards
If you make a video of what is good on this bike that video will be much shorter. Thank you for your, time energy and effort in making this very informational video. You saved me lots of headaches and money!!! God bless.
I purchased a gpx tse 250r 2023 I have About 10 hours on the bike. Went out to the garage one day seeing the bike upon the stand leaking shock oil from rear shock. I immediately contacted GPx To see if there's any kind of warranty that they would uphold. Needless to say they are absolutely no help whatsoever just standing there with their hand out wanting more money. Customer service is a joke. I tried to explain that the bike hasn't even had it's 1st mud bath. Let alone the cellophane pulled off the decals
What happened with the bike and company is ridiculous! I'm sorry brother, ty for sharing your experience. I'll check out your videos whether your riding brand new KTM, a piece of 🐕 💩 haha (the GPX FSE 450), or a Peewee50 😆... Keep on Rippin!
As you mentioned, the bike isn't meant for Enduro racing. I would use it for commuting and duel sport. What would piss me off is the bad fuel injection. And even with the deal on the new motor, you ordered a new motor, not a box of parts. That is inexcusable. You did them right with your videos and racing. For them to do that to you is just wrong. With what you have in it now, you could have gotten a YZ250FX.
My neighbor bought one second week of riding it the starter blew up and went through the side case they would not help them warranty yet stop returning their calls she scrapped the bike out didn't even write it for a full month they said that he abused it when actually his kids were riding it very bad service just more Chinese junk not worth a f***
I understand they can’t control the quality of the product, but to hose you on a what supposed to be a brand new complete crate motor. That’s shady business. They should have asked for that motor back and sent you a confirmed complete motor.
They would not help warranty the engine issue with it no matter how many times he called them to fix the engine they told him whatever he needed to send them a list he sent them a list and they sent him a bill for the part this had only ran for less than two weeks and through the timing chain through the side case the bike sets in his garage he's spent $3,600 for it and it is a piece of s***I called back to try to get help for him they would not help him I don't know. Good you pay for what you get and you get f***** when you buy junk have a nice day
They have a lot to perfect on their bikes but its a great concept The thing that throws me off is how gpx treated you really not even the imperfections of the bike just the customer service
I ride a 2021.5 GPX FSE450R. This is the newer generation of the wright cycleworks bike he's talking about in this video. I love the bike, and the company. I "drink the coolaid" in his terms. LOL Previously road a Honda, and before that a KTM, and the list goes on. GPX is a solid company with a solid product. I've had some sort of issues with all of my bikes. We abuse the hek out of these things. Even my KTM's and Honda's always needed something. If anything, I've had less issues with my GPX (it's also the newest bike I've owned). I'm not trying to disrespect wright cycleworks, but I definitely have a totally different perspective. Just thought I'd share it. Take care and ride safe.
No disrespect taken. Glad it worked out for you. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I'm just sharing my experiences and why I don't recommend them.
@@wrightcycleworks Appreciate you being respectful brother! Wish you didn't have all the issues you did! I'm not saying that I won't have issues with GPX btw, I just haven't had anything out of the ordinary so far. I'm no fanboy for anything, and if it starts to break down or be unreliable I'm a realist, and I'll say it. But so far, it's treated me really well.
@@4x4erik agreed I have the 2022 tse250r and it’s absolutely flawless literally the best bike I’ve ever had and will definitely be buying another from Gpx only
Quality control is going to be the issue with chinese bikes. OP rides hard and got an early production model but that crate engine situation is inexcusable.
You can bet the latter. At least the 300 and 450 being KTM chassis clones mean you can find some hard parts. Good luck finding anything for the Kove with zero dealer parts network.
I was thinking about giving Kove a chance. Early production is going to have some teething issues. They've been making the engine since i think 2017, or atleast a SOHC version of it. One of the review videos that I watched had the bike go down with transmission issues. They all loved it when it was running as it should.
Well it has the new DOHC 450 Zongshen engine and supposedly better fuel injection. Tyler from the EveRide channel just purchased one and loved it so much he bought one. I fear they will still have the same issues, no parts availability and no dealer network. Not to mention the bad customer service I received.
@@wrightcycleworks Thank you very much for the quick reply! I've seen Tyler's review, but these days you don't know what is payed and what is an honest review (I'm not blaming Tyler). I'm located in Eastern Europe, we'll see if Kove will make it Euro street legal first :) Happy riding!
Been looking at these bikes alot, recently, they come with alot of bells and whistles. The one thing I find/hear is that almost all of them have the EFI problem. To me I just don't know if it's worth buying a bike then immediately having to fix the problems they should've already fixed, and for $6500 I can get a very nice name brand bike without any issues.
Good post bro. Hate to hear the experience/ ive never had one / only few vids under belt of in my feed (im a rabbid highland cycles / any and all two stroke etc) but i suppose if you used it solely to never get any daylight under them tharr wheels and only maxed out the rpm to like grandpas 2800.. (Like the only fanboy vid i know of.. never sees 4800 😆 ) Then it'd still be chuggin along. Lol. 👍🏽 Hey great vid bro. My buddy in central fl jyst picked up a little older (17) ktm 200 i believe (for his 14 yr old son) in really good shape $2k there's some deals out tharr . I guess a used beta 300 prob a hella better option from this nighmarish story . Wow.
SSR450/250 guy here. Could we race them? Sure. But we trail them. Why? Because we’re not a racing team. Don’t expect these bikes to do what the big 4 do and you’ll be satisfied.
I'd love to see a budget priced bike hit the market, it just seems like the Chinese bikes don't hit the mark. Parts availability is a huge issue IMO and I question how long gpx will stay around\support these bikes. Honestly it's hard to beat a KTM group bike for parts availability. There are dealers everywhere you go and so many bikes that it merits the dealers stocking those parts.
Totally get your point, we are not a new company, GPX moto is owned by USA motortoys which started in 2003 importing and distributing bikes from over seas, we support the models we have and plan to continue. Parts support is of course necessary for any brand. We will continue to grow the dealers through out the USA and parts can also be ordered direct from us as well.
Hi Dwight, there is one of these 450s for sale in my area with 150 miles on it for $4k. It’s a newer 2022 model. Also been tagged already. At that price, would you take a gamble on one?
Yes. Buy it. I ride a 2021.5 GPX FSE450R daily and love it. I also ride single track and trails when I have the chance. I bought mine used for 4k, ironically as well. Lol
@@JuanGarcia-oz6sg Those are all MX bikes. They hold no comparison to the GPX fse450r. The closest to compare would be a Honda crf450l or crf450rl, and they are stupid expensive.
I have a new gpx300 that is sitting in the garage because I can’t get it to run right from factory. fuel and electrical problems(same lean condition as you.). 300lb paper weight. Ended up with a used honda crf 250f for 3500.
I absolutely would. The main reason I got rid of the SSR was it didn't come with a title. I wanted a lighter dualsport at the time and unfortunately wasted my money on this GPX. The SSR doesn't try and pretend to be something it's not. You can actually get parts when needed, and anything that breaks is easily upgraded with CRF parts.
I have the 2021 fse450r (but, where I,m from It's called "Hellcat" Lol) supermoto setup, and couldn't be happier. Will only be ridden on asphalt, no endure/trail for me. Under 600 mi. and, so far so good. But, time will tell...
I'm hearing you but what I don't understand is why you didn't go back to GPX and say your not supposed to be charging me for these engine parts. You just left it Wales away. It was probably a miscommunication. Gpx are good guys. They wouldn't try and scam you. It's just the left hand not talking to the right, I'm sure
I tried several times and got nowhere with them. I never heard anything back until they were called out on Facebook about it a year and a half after the fact. I had already sold the bike, so 300 bucks worth of engine parts I had no use for didn't heal the wounds.
Don't take this the wrong way but when will everybody understand that you can't get a great anything without paying for it. It doesn't exist. Doesn't matter what it is. If you want quality you have to pay for it. I have a 22 KTM 300xc no doubt a expensive bike but once you pay close attention to all the details and top shelf components on the bike you begin to understand why they cost as much as they do. Sorry for the misfortune. Ride safe
Not taking anything the wrong way, I totally understand the "you get what you pay for" sentiment. Hence why I upgraded to a KTM 500 EXC. Just trying to save people money and time with my experience.
@@wrightcycleworks Wow! That KX450 makes double the power of that GPX. I know lots of guys who bought 450 motocross bikes, scared themselves silly and sold after a terrifying ride or two.
Ooops.Buy a Himalayan put a Cam for $200 a cheap $50 free flow exhaust a good air filter and a booster plug and it's done.Parts are cheap broadly available ,customization endless , and they are more reliable than a KLR.
It refers to the rear suspension setup. Linkage means it has shock linkage connecting the bottom of the shock to the swingarm like a Husqvarna. Non linkage is a PDS style KTM setup where the bottom of the shock bolts directly to the swingarm.
@@wrightcycleworks I don't race anymore I'm just looking for a good trail/ backroad bike with decent power ...I've read that some people are putting 38mm carbs on them to improve performance
Maybe being s small new company they have a lot to workout I dunno. But that many issues seems like a huge red flag to me. They seem to be on the ball trying to fix it but you should never be having THAT many problems.
Jeez. Even attempting some hard Enduro with this bike is way more than it was intended for. That's way less problems that you would have with a new ktm/husky. You would need 1k remap and tons of suspension work. They also have tons of fuel issues and needing a new fuel pump, intank filter, fuel connections is pretty regular. Sounds like this was pretty good.
All of the Japanese manufacturers are sub-contracting a large amount of there small motorcycles and off road motorcycles to china , Taiwan , and India for manufacturing ....with Japanese engineers over seeing the process. Manufactured in china with Japanese engineering , is a term i have heard a few times
My local series that I was racing switched up to a two day format. They now do Quads on Sundays and Bikes on Saturdays. Unfortunately, I can't get off work regularly on Saturdays so as for now no. I still do select GNCC events.
@@wrightcycleworks I raced that series this year and they are only doing 10 races next year and they might go back to 1 day events bc attendance has dropped a good bit since last year and the start of this year
I wonder why you are just about the only person I can find online that has had this many problems. Maybe it’s a lemon? It doesn’t seem to be tge case for most 22’s and 23’s.
Dang, this wasn't even a rant. It was a reasonable dude that just wanted a bike that didn't break all the time on him. I like the idea of a cheaper bike but they are making them too expensive now. Gonna have to look elsewhere. :(
Sounds like you had a horrible experience with the gpx 450 and I feel like they were aware of what they sold you that's why they sold it for 1200$. I recently bought a used 2019 gpx 250 2 stroke for 1500$. I've only had it for about 2 months and so far it's been a good bike but it definitely has its quirks. Overall it seems to be an ok bike for what I spent but ive got plans to do an engine swap if the engine happens to lock up or gives me issues.
My '02 Ktm 400exc-r is for sale low hrs. Will go thru hell in back np/ and dust that pos off. Too old to ride now "neck," and up by Coal township in Pa. is where I rode where the earth is on fire. You would like this bike😉
The Chinese can copy, but when it comes to automotive engineering they ain’t got the right stuff. Things like stress analysis, metallurgy and good manufacturing practices (GMP) all factor in, in building a safe, durable and reliable machine. I would rather see a company like ATK brought back to life with ancient but sound engineering than risking your livelihood as an importer of what is now becoming expensive junk. Oh, KTM pls don’t cross the line and sell CFMoto controlling interest!
Well first of all you are riding a 4 grand bike against 10 grand bikes. And you said when it was running good you were in the top 3. So you should expect to have to work on it more than say a KTM. But I also don't like fuel injection over carbs. Carbs are mechanical and can be tuned and forget about it. I've heard the spokes on Chinese bikes are weak, but you can buy new wheels for it. But the last incident is just a bad company representing GPX in this country. I mean 6 grand difference you have a lot of money to get things right on that GPS. But I noticed you had a nice truck, so why did you not buy a KTM. But for the working class that don't make the money you make the GPS would at least get them out there.
GPX got a few good reviews for being decently priced and demand went up and they increased their prices so hight thats its better to stick with the name brands. Awesome video, appreciate the honest review.
they need to be cheap otherwise what's the point in CHINA bike,
Thanks for a really balanced and fair-minded review.
But they have priced themselves out of the market they created.
yeah you should get the SWM RS 500. its an italian dual sport that is amazing for close to the same price
I would have went with a Honda as well, especially for the kind of $ they are asking. Honda or Yamaha for me, never even been a question. I’ve owned them all literally and between Blue and Red you can’t go wrong.
The 450 was way too much price wise and then the upgrades on top of that I'm happy with my 300l
Thanks for the review James. I hope they listen to you and improve their product. You hung in there more than anyone else would have.
Thank you for the honest information, and for keeping it out there.
Kind of an interesting story I ended up having to Lemon Law a KTM 690r for engine defect issues. I know this would seem counterproductive but I think that Chinese manufacturers introduce a bit of issues when they go to fuel injection route. I think it's easier to make a carburetor run well enough but with an EFI it has to be bang on
Also make sure to toss you a like and sub to feed the Al Gore rhythm
Hi, i'm just bought the 450 in the UK where they are £5795 new. Although i bought an ex demo bike with 100 miles already on it. I believe a lot has improved in the 2023 model, plus we don't have the engine power restrictions over here. I'll only be using mine for trail/dual sport riding, i'm hoping to get some videos recorded soon.
Hi, I’m also in the UK not far from Salisbury plains. How is the bike performing so far?
Thank you for the update. I was considering buying one of these. Bad service was the reason.
Was looking to buy one thanks for the info .How you kept your cool is amazing
Omg I’m so Glad I didn’t get one of those bikes and I was so Close to getting one that’s too many problems for me, Thanks for the video
I know a lot of people that have them... they're great bikes. I also know a lot of people with Japanese bikes that have problems. Just sayin'...
@@jkmarshall3553 I totally agree
Great points.
I had heard some good things and some bad, but at the now $7,000 sticker price... INSANE !
Save up another $2,000 and you can have a brand new Honda 450, or for the same price as the GPX you can get a KTM 500 just a few years old.
Honda is 11k
@@TraveladvRajanSRai I am seeing them for just over $9K USD here, new. If you want to save a few bucks go used with under 500 miles, $8K USD. Japanese reliability and parts availability for not much more $ is a no-brainer. Lets look at this in just China bike perspective... GPX FSE 450 for $7K or KOVE 450 Rally for $2K more? That GPX still good value for money at $7K ? Nope.
kawasaki is blowing out last years 450 for about that.
Not w tax there more
They are a small new company.
Don’t blame you….sold my 300r and haven’t looked back. Fun bike to ride until it need mx or a part.
Thanks for the comment!
Pitster is also out of Utah and although they look nice there is no doubt that bikes made in that area of the Orient can't compare to KTM, Husqvarna and such. I had a Pitster 230SC with the 19"/16" wheels and even though I am 6'4" it was fun to putt around on. Those were $2,199
Thank you for the TRUTH!
Thanks for the comment. And yes you should absolutely do dumb things with your Versys!
Swm is the way to go if you want a cheap reliable bike
@@wrightcycleworks they definitely got better but at their current price point its better to go for the SWM RS 500 dual sport because its not a clone of a husky, its the actual husky that was made when bmw owned them. after ktm bought husky the plant and tooling in italy was sold to swm who makes modernized huskies with model issue fixes and updates that make them better. they actually made 2020 dual sport of the year for being a $7000 500cc dual sport thats on par with Beta and KTM
are your prices going to remain similar to SWM's 500cc offerings because theyre actual big brand Husqvarna and use their plant and tooling. their bikes are better made and more powerful with actual kyb suspension and brembo brakes. for about $7000
Same here the price was to high and close enough to the Japanese n European bikes so I got proven bike 👍
Thank god I watched this.. saved me a headache
My neighbor I suggested to him to buy a GPX 190 he wrote it for a week the timing chain wore a hole in the side
Good you pay for what you get and you get f***** when you buy junk have a nice day
Wow ,thank u so much u saved lots of people money now ..
They have a lot to perfect on their bikes but its a great concept
The thing that throws me off is how gpx treated you really not even the imperfections of the bike just the customer service
I remembered you racing I raced with you it seemed like a good bike for the price but hate to seen you go through what you did man
Hey I remembered you too man! I'd still be racing if they didn't switch to Saturday for bikes.

I ride a 2021.5 GPX FSE450R. This is the newer generation of the wright cycleworks bike he's talking about in this video.
I love the bike, and the company. I "drink the coolaid" in his terms. LOL
Previously road a Honda, and before that a KTM, and the list goes on.
Thanks for the review.
I'm starting to wonder if the new KOVE 450 is really that good, or if it's just more Chinese Kool-Aid 🤔
Thank you for the good information
Springs and bushings inside suspension are normally steel.
Thank you very much for all your input! Do you happen to know if the Kove 450 Rally (sold by GPX) is any better? Thanks!
Duuuuude... these bikes are fire!
How would you compare GPX to the SSR? Thanks

Then it'd still be chuggin along.
Wow.

That is ridiculous! Their response for a crate motor with missing parts... Yikes

So do you think you would buy another ssr450 again I feel like you didn’t keep it long enough to see if it was any good
I absolutely would.
Thats too bad. Everyone has a different experience. I couldn't be happier with mine. 2022 fse450 at full price $6499. ( modled after 2020 ktm sxf)
I have the 2021 fse450r (but, where I,m from It's called "Hellcat" Lol) supermoto setup, and couldn't be happier. Will only be ridden on asphalt, no endure/trail for me. Under 600 mi. and, so far so good. But, time will tell...
Time will tell 😎
I bought a Atk 605. Us made bike. Similar to ktm but rotax. New belt n top end. Wp susp top
35hrs on my Sherco 300 2t, not one single issue. You get what you pay for tho
The triple breaking is that chinese metallurgy which would scare me the most. Luckily you didn't get hurt worse
Wow, sorry to hear all this, what have you done with the bike?
I sold it right after the engine debacle. Moved to a 2013 KX450.
@@wrightcycleworks Wow! That KX450 makes double the power of that GPX. I know lots of guys who bought 450 motocross bikes, scared themselves silly and sold after a terrifying ride or two.
Ooops.Buy a Himalayan put a
Cam for $200 a cheap $50 free flow exhaust a good air filter and a booster plug and it's done.Parts are cheap broadly available ,customization endless , and they are more reliable than a KLR.
What's the meaning of the Linkage & Non Linkage terminology on the gpx fse 300 2 stroke
It refers to the rear suspension setup. Linkage means it has shock linkage connecting the bottom of the shock to the swingarm like a Husqvarna. Non linkage is a PDS style KTM setup where the bottom of the shock bolts directly to the swingarm.
Thank you for this
do you have any experience with these Chinese 2 strokes?
Cant say that I have. From what I've seen, they are pretty decent save for the stock carburetor.
Sold my gpx
Why would anyone even think of buying such a bad product? Boggles my mind.
When I bought mine, the price point and it being something different swayed my decision. I gave it a chance and boy was I wrong.
Do you prefer the ssr450? Im thinking of buying one?
Yes, simply because it's easier to get parts for the SSR. Anything needed quickly can be ordered for a 2008ish CRF450X.
@@wrightcycleworks I don't race anymore I'm just looking for a good trail/ backroad bike with decent power ...I've read that some people are putting 38mm carbs on them to improve performance
@@christopherhill6870 yes there's lots of ways to squeeze more power out of them.
Atk few grand used. Early 90s
They improved them. Ktm are 10k used
Maybe being s small new company they have a lot to workout I dunno.
That's lousy. Glad I didn't buy it. Good video.
Thanks for sharing. I'll not be buying one now.👍
Ever hope to start racing again?
My local series that I was racing switched up to a two day format. They now do Quads on Sundays and Bikes on Saturdays. Unfortunately, I can't get off work regularly on Saturdays so as for now no. I still do select GNCC events.
@@wrightcycleworks I raced that series this year and they are only doing 10 races next year and they might go back to 1 day events bc attendance has dropped a good bit since last year and the start of this year
If i want a problemless solid dual sport bike i would buy a Honda CRF 300 ,yes more heavy but it worth the money for a long time.
The 300 is a pretty decent choice save for the horrendous suspension. No reason Honda couldn't have at least made it adjustable.
Weak asf
Kayo top or ssr
Our local motorcycle mechanics will not even take Chinese bikes in fir service work.
Dude!!!!! What's your address? I'm sending you a first place trophy for all your dilageance. Good luck racing in the future. Scott
They should send you a new updated bike, your endorsement alone should be plenty of compensation.
Thanks to your video I will never buy a GPX
I wonder why you are just about the only person I can find online that has had this many problems. Maybe it’s a lemon? It doesn’t seem to be tge case for most 22’s and 23’s.
Could be the case, my 450 was one of the first ones in the USA.
I had a GPX. Sold it . Got a 2001 cr125. 😎 they look just like KTM. Think about it. 🤔
Simply buy a factory bike -- I am exhausted just listening 😂
12k for a ktm spend a lil in it. 5k is cheap
Sold my GPX. And got a used cr 😎
Shixxxt is shixxxt. Doesn’t matter where it’s made and how much chrome it’s got.
