- The Indian Air Force has combined two fighter squadron elements together to bring the 6x Su-30MKI Flankers to RAAF Base Darwin.
They are participating in Exercise Pitch Black 2024 hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force and will conduct a variety of missions during the three week exercise.
IAF Group Captain Ajay Rathi details the deployment of the Su-30MKI to Australia for the exercise and what the IAF hope to get out of Pitch Black 24.

Flanker is the most elegant fighter in the world
Most of these Su-30 MKI jets were made in India with a large proportion of Indian parts, down to even engine components.
India is carrying out the mid-life upgrade of this jet, which involves modifications to airframe itself, new AESA radar, new Data Link, new IRST, new EW suite including Digital RWRs and Dual Colour MAWS, etc and a whole new weapons suite. And all the above that I mentioned, is being done WITHOUT Russian help and with only Indian designed and built components (except for the Data Link which though manufactured in India, is of Israeli Design).
Funny how you say Indian parts yet India cannot even produce a proper jet engine without foreign assistance. Even Tejas cannot be produced at the moment because Americans are delaying the engine delivery dates so this tells a lot about the state of Indian aircraft industry.
@@bbar182 Done? Imagine a machine that has 10 major components and you ignore the fact that 9 out of those 10 India can already make on its own and cherry pick the 1 part that India has not yet managed to make on its own.
Jet engine is literally the LAST component of a jet engine that India doesn't have mastery on. Yet. Because till date India has spent less than $1 Billion on jet engine development in India's entire history. India's competition, on the other hand, spends multiple Billion every year on the same thing.
Modern Combat Aircraft's Jet Engines are literally one of the most advanced military technologies, insomuch that even China until very recently relied on Russia for its jet engines. Still does, but atleast they have started making their own now. And even then they are not at the same level as USA. Which is the country from where India sources its jet engines.
@@death_parade Just FYI you say India makes 9 out of 10 components but again you are wrong.. The ejection seat is not Indian.. The Engine is not Indian and even the Radar is Russian. So without these your jets are useless. Please do some logical thinking and don't jump on the MODI bandwagon Make in India propaganda...

@@RoyKhalifa So what if you reach moon and Mars... making a powerful jet engine is complicated and it needs to run for hours non stop at high temperatures. You need specialist materials and design. This India cannot do and has not done properly for last 50 years.

PAF is paper tiger but PLAF i would be very careful to under estimate. They have far more capability than India at the moment.
