Literally had to watch so many reviews just to see someone using the touchscreen! It’s so important to see how responsive it is in real time. Thank you!!
One thing I want to point out: On my machine with the i5 whiskey lake, during normal work (office, firefox, thunderbird, youtube) the fan is completely turned off. This really impressed me as at the same time the machine stays cool. I once got my hands on the x1 carbon 2018 and in comparison to the x390, it burns your fingers!
i have this laptop and i love it. im a laptop geek and swap out my laptop every 6 weeks at work because why not. As a student / developer this laptop is a beast. Can bring anywhere--its light, decent battery life, and got a thunderbolt 3. I plan on getting a gpu docking station so I can have one thunderbolt cable setup for home/work and for school just unplug it and go.
I was wondering if it could be posible to install a sata drive instead of an NVMe so that you can free 2x lanes of PCIe and then they become available for usage on your thunderbold 3 port having four in total instead of the two mentioned on the video. However I am not sure if this is possible. If so I would strongly consider buying this laptop.
I worked on my PhD in computational physics from a Lenovo X210 and the battery life was a major point of proud (and productivity). Now that's gone for ever, as they follow the esthetics instead of practicality. I'll look forward to a new Dell 13 2-in-1, that seems to have a nicer screen form factor, better battery life, better sound, and is as good as this in the work environment (especially if only MS and browsing are considered as work stuff...)
Hello Sir! I'm considering a ThinkPad for use in running statistical computing softwares particularly SAS & R for analyzing large datasets. May I know your opinion as to which particular ThinkPad to choose to suit my purpose, or another brand/make/model for that matter? Thank you so much in advance for your response!
@@yengsabio5315 depending on the size of the datasets and walltime overheads of the scripts/code, I would say that memory access speed (RAM as well as SSD) can be the real bottleneck. If you program in order to also make use of GPU, then you need a GPU. Personally, anything with 4+ cores, an optional GPU, speedy NVME and 16+ GB RAM dual channel are to be suggested
I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't like the anti glare feature. I have cataracts (really) so I need as much sharpness as I can get. I love all of the choices that are out now though, so when I see the affordable Windows laptop that checks most of the important boxes for me, I will likely have seen it reviewed by you! It's so nice to have a trusted, honest source. Thank you AMD.
Amazing how the majority of laptop makers still shipping 1080p panels on these laptops in 2019. Why is it that its still hard to find a 2k display on a windows laptop at a decent price? Heck i can buy a 2013 macbook with a 2k display but not a decent pc? I dont want 4k draining my battery, just a nice 2k ips panel, that doesnt cost over $1200. Really starting to piss me off.
The ThinkPad X390's less than 8 hour battery life is a show stopper for somebody who can sometimes be on the road all day like myself. That's disappointing given earlier ThinkPad models could last 15-16 hours continuously and where battery development is today.
I am thinking of getting a Thinkpad to replace my aging 2009 Macbook Pro. Thinkpads seem to be tough hardware that is enjoyable to use, which really appeals to me. Is there a similarly priced Thinkpad (or other durable computer) to use as an everyday-use laptop and a little light gaming (minecraft, chivalry, subnautica)? I am just overwhelmed after using the same laptop for so long, which I loved, but it is starting to have some issues. This video was great so I appreciate your opinion.
id just love to see good keyboard layouts again on thinkpads, they could even keep the chiclet keyboard if they just fixed the layout and also: 4:3 would be nice (and why the f#*& is that ram soldered?!?)
Nice review. It really surprise me that this display has 314 nits while Asus UX533/433//333 have much dimmer one...I really like Asus design, but I also need decent panel..

Need to buy a laptop for my granddaughter for x mas running a Budget of around 1200 `1400 was looking at this model in Canadah but price isa lot different says 3600 minus down to 1076.00 so it looks good except price kinda wacked
Mine is using the 45W adapter and somehow the laptop keeps draining even though it is plugged in when the Charging Threshold is turned on. Have changed every single component and in the laptop but its still the same. Any idea why?
I would rather get a used x201 i good condition, and upgrade it to the same specs as this one, with the chinese lcdfan's x210 51nb 8th motherboard. And a new 1080p lcd pannel upgrade. Way better I/O, same specs, non soldered ram, GREAT classic thinkpad keyboard (no bad chiclete keyboard here), great screen, 12 inch, and really sturdy chassis. And cheaper than that laptop. Upgradeable wireless card, etc. And its literally buy the x201, and buy the parts and swap them, no mods needed, or even order the awready pre-swapped one (but its more expensive tho).
@@griffin8062 But compared to what? Because its a 15w cpu, while the original one is 35w. Is it bad compared to the original board or to modern thinkpads? Most likelly you're comparing this thinkpad with more modern ones, wich usually have way more battery capacity. For me, 6h+ is awready perfect. If i get my hands on a good x201 i will give it a try.

@@BriefNerdOriginal Thank you very much Sir!
Great product and a very nicely done review as usual! Liked, shared, etc!
Love the review! Very comprehensive and easy to understand. Bravo

Im looking to buy the X395 AMD. I watched you and got a good feel for what Im looking to get. Thanks maybe you could do the 395? Thanks.

huawei matebook has a 2k display, and price is very reasonable

15 hours? What kinda Thinkpad do you have?
Irwan Darmawan earlier thinkpads have internal and hot swappable battery. I can even reach 18hrs max if I set brightness down.

Check t480 or t480s

Good for gaming??
Great review, Andrew!
When you start up the computer what key do you hit to get into the BIOS? Great video thank you.
Damn, that's some pretty good performance from the CPU. I'm surprised there's so little throttling in such a small chassis.
Make that display 3:2 or 16:10 on thinkpads please!
Maybe you can buy an X61 square (i am serious, its the last X series thinkpad to have 4:3 screen)
Great Review....
Can I still get this in 2024?
Very informative video, nice job.

thank you. Which one is better,i5 or i7, ignore price
I5 is perfect for this unit...
Can the battery be replaced?
The voice didnt match the face, but awesome review!!!!!!
X390 vs T490?
I miss the removable battery.
wish the processor and memory wasn't soldered in.
Is there any way to disable the power button LED? Or some other solution? It is so distracting.
What are the actual brightness ratings for each display. Lenovo doesn't really make this info available on the website
Are you a salesman in real life bruh 😂
It's weird how the geekbench multi core score of this CPU is closer to a 45W 8750H in a Macbook Pro than the 8565U in a Spectre x360 13t
Just bought it last month. Can it run GTA V?

1920X1080 Matte display for better battery life
X390 or x390 yoga ? Why ? I’m a dummy ,..plz help
The yoga version of it?
Aren’t their easy fingerprints on the matte finish?
Good review

No 12" inch?
Would be nice if it had some graphics card inside
Dude, say “good job Lenovo “ one more time
Good job Lenovo
Hahah, that’s funny

The problem with the LCDfan motherboards is the battery life is crap because they have high power draw.

Isn't it strange hdmi is only 1.4?
Oh shit. I use to use Thinkpads back in college! Like, a SUPER long time ago.
Excellent
can you try Honor 20 pro.I still support huawei.Best of luck Huawei. We all are with you.please Help Huawei.
Arent huawei going to have no updates starting August? I mean there's nothing you can do no matter how much you support them. It's sad
Nice Mtech. :D
RAM is not upgradable ?? WHAT ???
they've been doing that since last year X280
Yeah, and this is very poor. I dont like this.
I watched a lot of reviews about the X390 before I bought it, and after watching your video I decided not to get it.
why don't they give a smaller 45w charger...the charger is as heave as the laptop :-D
Lol
x1 or x390?
x390 if you plan on travelling a lot and throwing it around and not giving a shit. I am a serial code-prenour so im gonna get the x390.
That soldered RAM, though... feels sad, man
To the point .... big NO for me
Lenovo 💪👌😍 Nice
Does the base mode have al backlight keyboard?
no, nor fingerprint sensor
i watch this on june 02, 2020.. black tuesday lol
i hope they send you x395
Coming up
that cartoon is to generous
**PSA** Once again we have another comment that makes absolutely no sense. People please do not post comments that are jibberish. Thank you.
cool thing
It's incredibly cheap not giving a unit away come on... asking to give it back is very inappropriate
???
makes it more objective if he has to give it back. assuming that he's not being paid for the review!
Expensive to look Excel and boring business programs.
Ilove
mouth

What an ugly but trusty product
Lol
It is really ugly and it doesn’t have one even one stand out feature
But is it durable...???
