    I appreciate this video because so many UA-camrs are pushing all their links for unnecessary tools Plus overcomplicating things that aren't that complicated for views. It's nice to see somebody reminding people how simple some things can be done.

      Yes, absolutely! I can appreciate using fancy tools to get the job done. It's fun to use a very task specific tool, but on the other hand I think it is really cool when youj find unlikely or simple tools to do the same thing. I have a video about using a cheap nail salon tool to remove dried glue that people seem to really like. Options are nice to have. Thanks for watching and come back soon for more content!

    I really appreciate how even though you have all the fancy tools you show how you can do it just as well with everyday/inexpensive materials

      It's quite interesting to discover alternative ways. I'm sure there are many other ways to accomplish this that have yet to be discovered.

      Check out my edge banding video where I used a fabric cutter. I just edge banded cabinets using it and it was awesome

    My first time building "simple" workshop cabinets. The first is the worst I always say. I was figuring out door overlay, hinge jig, and door install jig; when I realized I wasn't accounting for the edge banding thickness. Then I remembered I meant to buy the trimmer tool and did not. Then I figured lots of banding was installed long before the trimmer tool, so here I am.
    Thankfully for videos like this, they may get done before the new year.

      You just detailed what every woodworker has experienced. I did several edge banding videos that I hope are helpful to many. Good luck on your cabinets and thanks for watching!👍

    Great video. The wife is going to be mad when I take the pizza cutter, sharpen it, and give it a try.

      I did a follow up to this video in which I used a fabric cutter. I was very impressed with the results.

    Thank you for this video. I build cabinets for a living and I have used these methods. I agree the special tools they sell are not needed, my utility knife is used the most. A semi sharp wide putty knife is another tool I use. Good information!👍🏽

    Thanks for the tips Logan. I agree about the edge band flush trimmer: it works great until it doesn't.

    You can get an edge band tool for less than a utility knife

    I’m not sure if the J-roller does the “exact” same thing, but part of the reason I use the block of wood to tamp the edge banding after glueing is because it absorbs heat from the edge banding and helps the glue cool and solidify faster (and it won’t scuff off on the banding). That helps keep the banding from sliding around if it stays hot and liquid (which can happen if you use a roller at an angle accidentally).
    There are VERY sharp fabric roller cutters that would do a better job than the pizza cutter. One potential advantage of the roller blade cutter is that a duller knife blade can drag and tear the edge banding, especially melamine edging.

      Great advice. It's funny you mention the fabric cutter. Someone else made the same suggestion in a comment so I quickly made another video about that too. Go check it out!

    Excellent video. Getting ready to do edge banding, have never done it. Bought the cutting tool yesterday and saw this today of course. Haven't used it so will return it and use your method. There is a tool like the pizza cutter for cutting cloth material that has a razor sharp edge and replaceable blades. Have one so out of curiosity going to try it. Didn't notice you mention the temp you put your iron on, not a big deal, will figure it out. Thank you.

    Excellent video. BUT I have seen many about using a clothes iron and they ALL lack a comment about what to do with the steam setting. Almost all clothes irons have this feature. Some irons have a switch setting of some kind to turn it off, many do not, they just assume that everyone always wants steam. I guess you can just conveniently "forget" to fill the water reservoir. How do YOU handle this issue?

    • @DudeSawdust
      @DudeSawdust  5 місяців тому

      Honestly, I wish I knew more about the steam feature. But I don’t put water in the iron anyway. I just use the hottest setting and that seems to work great.

    Olfa makes a "pizza slicer". My wife has one for when she does quilting. A round razor blade, I think that would work. The base idea here is not so bad. Thanks

    Two words: Veneer Saw

    • @kenpenske6703
      @kenpenske6703 8 місяців тому

      I’ve tried everything. A veneer saw stands head and shoulders above anything else. One zip, maybe two, and the edge is clean. Takes about 10 seconds or less on a 24 inch length. Keep the saw sharp.

    How to apply glue on edge banding that come without glue?

    • @keithmarlowe5569
      @keithmarlowe5569 7 місяців тому

      I would be tempted to use adhesive similar to spray adhesive. The kind you spray on and let it get tacky before sticking together. The trouble with spray can is not getting it every where besides the edge. I know there are different products that come in cans with applicators vs spray can. Maybe you can find heat activated adhesive like they apply to the banding. I have never looked for it.
