    I have not used any of the rulers I have bought at Paducah last Spring. But, I am so happy I watched with wonderful presentation about the QR Ruler Foot. I have that foot for my machine, and because I have not read my manual, I did not know what it was for. I was just going to use the "plastic one". Now, I know not to do that!! You are a great teacher. Very concise and easy to follow. Thank you so much!! Peace and blessings, Vicki

    Thanks for another great video Kim. I'm happy to see you used HQ rulers! I also have an HQ and a few of their rulers. I had read that they didn't work with this foot and I see you didn't have any problems. Yay!!

      Hi Kathy: Good thing I hadn't read anything about them not working ;) I like their rulers and find that they have a good variety of choices.

    I appreciate your videos. When you talked about options around the 5:00 mark, you were going too fast for me to understand what you meant. I look forward to learning along with you in future videos!

      I think I was just saying that you can bring the ruler down again if you want. I think that was the only part that might've been a bit quick in the video.

    Excuse my stupidity here - but before I use the rulers, do I set the machine up to do fmq? I’ve upgraded etc ~ but I just want to double check. 😊. Thank you for all your great tutorials x

      No stupid questions here! Yes, you do set up the machine for FMQ'ing before you start to do the ruler work. I actually go over this exact point in my recent Chatterbox Quilts' live video which you can find at ua-cam.com/video/LjrjxXws-d8/v-deo.htmlm37s.

    Great information, thank you. Please can anyone tell me if I can use Westalee Rulers with my Janome Ruler foot ?

    • @Chatterboxquilts
      @Chatterboxquilts  5 років тому

      I believe that you can, Christine, as Westalee is the company that made the ruler kit for the Janome machines. I would just check with them directly, advising as to the specific rulers you are interested in.

    Thank you for the great video on the ruler foot......just a couple questions. Do you lower your feed dogs for this and use the blue dot bobbin holder.

    • @Chatterboxquilts
      @Chatterboxquilts  5 років тому

      Hi Jean: Yes, it's just like free motion quilting, only with rulers, so lower the feed dogs and put in that blue bobbin case if you have it.

    I was told I could not use rulers with my 9400 because of auto lift feature and if I did it would void my warranty. Is this true or not?

    • @Chatterboxquilts
      @Chatterboxquilts  6 років тому +2

      Hi Wanda: You can definitely do ruler work once you have updated the Janome 9400 and you won't have any issues. Check out my video at ua-cam.com/video/_0bztW1cpn8/v-deo.html on the upgrade kit to see what I'm talking about and what is included in the kit. If you don't upgrade your 9400, you can't ruler quilt due to the automatic presser foot lifter.

    Did you ever had the chance to work on the janome 12000?, Trying to buy one, did you like how she sew? Trying to choose from the Bernina a new 570qe to the janome, they r both good, just wanted your input, thanks😀

    • @Chatterboxquilts
      @Chatterboxquilts  5 років тому

      I have not worked on the Janome 12000, so I'm unable to comment on it. When looking at a new sewing machine, be sure to consider what you'll be using it for (type of stitching), what accessories are included and the cost of additional accessories (this can be quite pricey with the Bernina models). Good luck with your decision!

    What about all the breaking needles and shreading thread? I have tried everything I know and nothing stops it. Am I too fast or slow? Is it just something that happens. I am about ready to toss the whole kit and the ruler work idea.

    • @Chatterboxquilts
      @Chatterboxquilts  6 років тому

      This can be very frustrating. There can be a number of reasons for shredding thread, such as wrong needle size, poor quality thread and just stitching too fast with tight tension. As for breaking needles, this shouldn't be happening at all. If it is when you are ruler quilting, you need to be using a ruler foot which is thicker to avoid hitting the ruler or template so you don't break a needle. If you are breaking needles when you are doing regular stitching, I would suggest that your machine might need a tune up and would call your local Janome dealer to ask about this issue.

    • @gthorndike1
      @gthorndike1 6 років тому

      Needle breakage isn't happening from hitting the ruler. I can't figure out why the shredding thread. At one point it was catching in the QC foot I was using, with the ruler foot, I never did figure it out. Once with the QV foot I notice the thread had slipped out of the thread guide above the needle. Mostly the machine would skip a few stitches then would shred. I would hear it knock below as it skipped the stitches. I was assured by a repair tech it was not the machine but I had usually just sewing for a time fine then suddenly with no change to speed or tension and sometimes no change to direction it would skip and shred.

      gthorndike1 The Q feet are not for ruler work.... The Q feet are for free motion quilting on their own like the darning/ hopping foot. Only the new metal foot as shown in this video which came with the ruler foot upgrade are for use with rulers...

      @@gthorndike1 I hear this complaint so often. How frustrating it can be. I have had Janome's since the 8000 came out. Why don't you observe closely how your thread feeds off the spool. I have found more problems here than anywhere else. If you are using a lg spool of thread on a cone stand sometimes as the thread is feeding off the wraps slide down to the bottom & wind around the bottom of the cone. As you stitch the thread gets tighter & tighter & finally , BOOM it snaps & shreds. Then you blame it on all kinds of stuff. There are many variations of this, a rough spot of the plastic edge of the spool that periodically catches the thread & so on.To produce nice stitching ,the thread must feed off the spool effortlessly. If it gets tight & then a wrap slides off before it breaks you are not going to have nice stitches. You will start adjusting your tensions etc. when they are not the problem.
      Take a look at your machine with new eyes & make sure this is not the problem first, before you start pushing knobs & buttons.

      I don't think that you can use the Janome 9400 upgrade on your machine and I don't think that this ruler foot will work. Check out this article for more details. janomelife.wordpress.com/2018/07/10/glad-you-asked-that-will-the-ruler-foot-work-on-my-machine/
