Thanks for watching! Don’t forget my new Nest Doorbell Battery video I also just uploaded here: ua-cam.com/video/b29jZ1Xxm1s/v-deo.html I talk about the missing 24/7 on their newest doorbell.
What do you think or know about the difference in the floodlight kit from Wasserstein, for the Nest battery powered camera, and the floodlight version of this camera that's coming out? I'm curious about which is better.
How long does it take to charge the camera?
Maybe it allows for more variety in angles for camera placement on the magnetic mount?
The cord is facing the front so you can adjust the camera. If the cord faced towards the back instead of the front, it would limit the camera adjustments. We love the design and mount.
Haha that power cord design seems like a major glitch in the matrix 🤔
Agreed, and yet, why do I need an outdoor camera that requires me climbing a ladder every time it needs a charge. I feel like I'm missing something.
prolly that's why neo is coming back lolol
The wire actually makes sense. I have the camera pointing mostly down and if the wire pointed the other way it wouldn't allow the camera to point down that much. My problem is with the home app compared to the nest app. The nest app is 1000 times better, I wish I could have found the old outdoor camera that worked in the nest app. You can't scrub the timeline like you can with the nest app.
Wow about time Nest!! Battery and flood light options. Thanks for sharing!
Have always enjoyed the sign-off gags. This is probably one of the best!
Thanks for comparing to the Reolink 4k! Obviously knew there'd be a big difference but great to see side by side.
Only thing is Reolink is notoriously bad at night. Showing a daytime side by side isn't showing the whole picture.
Great video as always Reed! For your upcoming review of the floodlight camera, can you cover the different possible mounting positions for it? My house has a floodlight that's mounted on an overhang (so basically upside down). Fine for a basic floodlight, but I can't find anything that shows how that would work for the Nest Floodlight Cam. Thanks!
great review on the nest!
Thank you for pointing out the camera can be hardwired outside. I could not find that anywhere on Google's site. These are the best cameras to go with because of the 24/7 audio/video recording capabilities.
I will be using this inside! Thanks!
Good review. Thanks.
Thank you for the review.
Thanks for the review
Awesome review, Reed! But what I really want to know is how you came across a Victoria, Australia number plate? Big fan mate. From a proud Victorian.
Very helpful thank you my guy I appreciate you.
Google Home App is not that bad, they constantly update it. I haven’t messed with the Nest App, been enjoying the Home App. Love the Nest Cams and Doorbell. I have 4 Cams along with the doorbell, currently waiting for weatherproof cables to get here. Gonna go 24/7. Activity zones help, along with its face detection that works 95% of the time. Battery would last me around a month, (would have it on the highest sensitivity, max quality, and recording 3 minutes every event. 2 way talking scares people all the time. 😂
that weatherproof cable looks like an after thought. I miss the old IQ with the wire hidden under the bracket.
The IQ was thoughtfully designed.
Can you please elaborate on how you viewed all streams at once? Everywhere else I've looked says this can't be done. Thanks so much for the video!
It cannot be viewed simultaneously on the hubs, but can be on tablets and iPads through the nest app
You click on "cameras" in the Home app
I think we have all been anxiously awaiting these cameras for a while. However, the surprise that is does NOT use the nest app like my other cameras do is something that doesn’t seem to bother people much. Am I missing something?? The thought of my cameras NOT being all in one easy to use app sounds terrible! Please educate me if I am thinking about this the wrong way! Thanks! Have always loved your content by the way!!
Do you think you could do a video on getting 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz networks work with 2.4 GHz smart plugs/devices?
For keeping an eye on my house/yard I think 1080p will be fine. TBH these cams really only allow me to relive the incident in question. I get to see that guy steal my bike over and over again.
Lmao basically.
Thanks Reed.
How can you see multiple cameras at once? Google representative said multiple view works only with the old Nest cameras that are wired but clearly you showed it can be done with the newer nest camera. Please help, thank you.
Great Video! Does the Nest Cam record in 24/7 mode if I use the included awkward cable? Or do you have to buy the specific weatherproof one?
As long as it is plugged in to an outlet it will do 24/7 recording with Nest Aware
Will it record 24-7 with nest aware not plugged in?
Testing must have proved that it could interfere with some scenarios where the cable could hit something outside the house. Like being too close to an outstanding brick, something like that.
Ok so I have the older Outdoor nest cam with cord and I use the Nest App. I also have Nest aware for 5 days of live recording . This one will require ANOTHER app? Can I combined my old nest camera to the home app along with this one ?
Question, with the solar panel attachment, will the camera do 24/7 video or will it only do that during sunlight hours? Also, does the theft protection accessory have a cutout for the power cable?
Great question! I was wondering the same. Bummer they may not arrive until November :(
I have been wondering this since it was released and have not been able to find out.
So you have to remove it to charge it? The whole nest engineering team needs to be fired smh.
How's this compared to the Arlo pro 4? I'm in the market for a battery powered camera but I'm also new in this topic
I have a Blink camera set up. I have all google home devices. Would it be worth moving to these cameras to replace the Blink? Maybe do a comparison video of Nest Cam battery Vs Blink.
Do you think they will publish a new IQ version with better resolution anytime soon ?
Just curious as you said in the early part of the video that if someone broke into your car overnight that the video would be gone. I understand that the Google nest keeps your incidents for alot longer than that. So that would mean it would still be viewable right?
How did you view multiple cameras in your tablet? I was trying it with Google Hub max I cant figure it out
Outstanding video, I'm a little bummed that I can't use the Nest app with it because the google home apple is overly busy.
The Home app isn't bad. Once you click on "cameras" you can use filters.
What I miss though is to view cam streams on a bigger screen.
Time for a new comparison video. Wondering how these compare to the eufycam 2's.
With local storage and ai, combined with similar price, im wondering which are better.
Im thinking the same
Could you review 1) robot lawnmowers both corded and cordless, 2) smart refrigerators, 3) Smart stove and ovens.
Hey... why do you have a licence plate from Victoria, Australia? I live there! Thanks for the shout out!
Yeah, what's going on there
When I pre-ordered ours no more outdoor power cord is available. I am planning to use the stock charger cord, my power outlet is indoors. Is there a difference with the stock cord and outdoor cord that attached on the camera end?
The wire is angled that way so you can have the camera tilted downwards and not interfere
Good work! Now pls do review on 2k mi cam pro and compare it others u think r better at same price ty
Lol at the Victorian number plate! Love your work dude
What the hell its a VIC number plate lol. I thought he was from USA?
2 Videos in a week?!?? Woah didn’t expect that one
That's three!
@@nadeemshaikh7863 woah 🤯
What is the advantage of this cam over the new doorbell? Looks like the same features and quality.
Im still thinking about the why the wire on the camera extends out. Makes no sense to me.
I feel like with well routed wiring (that enters the building at the point where the camera is mounted), you could make the forward-sticking power connector just sort of naturally curve into a small and neat drip loop.
In that case, you may as well just run a PoE camera.
@@PoisonWaffle3 That's definitely the better option, not going to argue that. There were better ways to execute this design, but it is what it is and I think a well placed drip loop could help hide the sin.
Wait, does it keep the event recording for 3 hours or do you get 3 hours worth of event recording (i.e. you won't have 3 hours worth of event footage overnight)?
No it just shows the last 3 hours, anything past that won't be shown
You pay for NEST aware and can get 30 days, for all cameras you have. Good deal.
@@mattterry30 do you get 24/7 with nest aware too? That’s the confusing part to me… I can’t figure out if you have to have it wired or not.
Do you know if there’s a way to turn differences lights on the house when the nest cam detects a person at night?
I think I figured out the wire, it's for If the camera is on an aggressive angle looking down then the cable will still provide a drip point if mounted outside, like if it got rained on. Maybe, I'm not a camera engineer so I'm just guessing
Can you review their flood light camera?
Can I please get the link for the charger cable? All the ones that pop up for me are too short for me to have it wired from the outside.
I love how you compared the nest doorbells. Are you going to compare this to the Nest IQ? Do you think this camera is better than the Nest IQ? On paper it seems like a downgrade just like the new doorbell
Given this is a battery powered camera I don't see why it would be compared to an IQ cam
@@Somives probably because this one is battery and wired capable. A lot of people don't care for battery powered (some do). I think most people want a superior camera over battery / wired. Not sure if you seen his video he put out today but it was an amazing comparison of both generation Nest doorbells
Google doesn't have the Nest IQ for sale anymore. It's possible they could come out with an updated version of it but I haven't heard anything.
@@eclecticgentleman I agree with you, and have both battery and wired cams but am working to move more to wired. While this is the only outdoor cam they have currently its a different category than the IQ (which you can't buy anymore). I am hoping they release a more direct replacement of the IQ.
@@Somives I’m kinda in the same boat. Do I love wireless? Sure. But to come at the expense of not getting a much better camera from the older models - nah. Would rather have wired. Give us the better resolution and processing
so the new "NEST" cameras don't work with the NEST app?
That is so irritating 🤬
What’s your favorite in door cam?
How can you add the timestamp embedded into the clips after you download them to your cellphone ?
Thank you. I’ll receive my 2 cams tomorrow. Too bad it’s not 4K.
How about simplisafe wireless outdoor camera, you like this or no?
How long would you be able to live stream for?
I have a Reolink 4k PoE like shown in the video, attached to the Reolink DVR. Would love a video on how to hook up to Nest or Ring security for better movement/people alerts as the Reolink DVR sucks at motion detection.
Is the image good quality at night? I heard the Reolink wasn't great when it's pitch dark.
@@ohlala6674 it's decent. The IR flood gets to about 30 feet before it falls off. And it doesn't have color like some of them do now.
Will you do routines for gamers
How far can you turn the camera on the magnetic base?
Where do i buy the outdoor cords?
What is that tripod mount looking thing at the bottom of the camera?
You have to have the anti theft mound for Nest to replace it?
How on earth did you get a VIC number plate in the states, surely there's a story there I'm missing due to being newer to the channel
Was it difficult to take out your existing camera and doorbell to replace with the nest to film
And I suppose install then back after filming
No it's really easy. The doorbell is just a few screws in the wall. The camera is just two screws as well. I mounted it to a plate that I showed in that outdoor security camera video I did recently so I'm not putting holes all over my house.
Can u record 24/7 with the solar panel?
This new camera didnt fly with my Uncle - he's used to browsing the nest cams with his remote using the old Nest android tv app.
That power cord design is literally insane. Why didn’t they design it so it could be plugged in from either direction?! Can imagine kinking the charging cable to push it through a wall is great for the cord either.
The power cable acts like a drip line, I think. If it’s plugged in the wrong way, water can follow the cable into the electrical connection. Plug it in the correct (but weird looking) way, and it will behave like a proper drip line, keeping water out of the electrical connection.
@@nomsolo9935 Wire should be on rear and centered hidden behind mounting plate.
I purchased two of these cameras. One of them the battery dies 20-30% per day.
The worst part is that the nest aware events DOES NOT work. If a car pulls up and it happens to catch it then I see the last few seconds of vehicle driving away.
I had two bicycles out front removed right in front of camera and it showed nothing in the events.
Spent hours and days with Google and they offered to credit one month subscription of nest aware 😂
I was set to buy this cam but the power cord, is a deal breaker. What were they thinking?!
It says that you can record dogs barking but I don’t have that option. When I contacted google they said I need to get the mini also for that added feature. Doesn’t make sense considering it’s an outdoor camera for me.
So glad to see the solar panel availability but dang the battery life for 1.5 months to 6 months is really short for a security camera
That nest cam power cord tho 😆 maybe the weather proof one is reversed to point the propper way ?
He pulled out the weather proof one at 0:48 and it's still the same awkward angle.
1:09 Do they still sell 4W solar panel ?
Can I use the included charge cord outside or do I have to buy the power cable accessory?
Charge cord is not rated for outside use. Then again, the camera barely is either
Love your number plate.... Go Aussie!!! :)
Yes looks like a Queensland plate to me I can't see the state but
Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi! It's actually a Victoria plate. I got it when I was living in Melbourne over 10 years ago.
@@SmartHomeSolver Oh WOW! Didn't know you had lived in Melbourne (the best city BTW), I knew I watched you for a reason :)
Csn you turn off the nighr vision IR light
if I already pay for Nest Aware with my wired doorbell could I add this camera to that plan or have to get an additional plan?
Just add it . No additional cost .
Can we connect this camera to iphone? Thanks!
I received my cameras two days ago and already the battery is down to 64%. I didnt have insane events to drain the battery. Because I hardly get events at all. So it supposed to sense cars etc. which I have enabled in the settings to do so but it doesnt. I had few delivery drops off clearly within the range of the cameras view but if you walk in normal speed camera doesnt pick up a movement and doesnt records an event. If you stop for a second while walking than it picks up there as an event. Long story short there are lots of glitches with this product and urgently needs some upgrades.
Event recording means?
y u have to buy indoor mount separately?
Owl night also have it battery powered cameras
can you vs eufy cam 2c pro cause you vs it against the 2c 2k vs 1080p
It needs to be close to the router to pick wifi signals unlike Nest IQ. I couldn’t get it working when installed outside. I’m quite disappointed.
So how is that disorganized Google App working out since the Nest app is still king as it just works.
Wait what? What do you mean it can’t be viewed on the Nest app and only the Google Home App ?
True
The charging cord is that way so you can lay the camera lens down when charging and not have to awkwardly balance
Can you see live video when not in wifi (away from home)
Why do you have a number plate from Australia??
how can i schedule turn off and turn on the cam ?
Good to know nest is coming out with a flood light camera….finally
Thanks for posting. But I do have a few questions. For someone who is deep into the nest ecosystem and already owns numerous Nest Outdoor & Indoor cameras…are you saying these new cameras will not work with my existing Nest Aware plan and not be compatible with the current Nest app? Secondly, I’d have to 1. ONLY use the Google Home app to view them & 2. have to pay a separate monthly fee aside form what I pay yearly for Nest Aware? Lastly, you’re saying I can’t just add to my already existing account/setup? Am I correct? Anyone please help. Because this is not good news for us long time Nest owners at all if we wanted to add to our existing setup.
Uses only the google home app, which is terrible
@@Steven_tube this is completely unacceptable! Why the hell would they do that!!!
Hi, would you be able to show how to stream multiple cameras on the same screen view like at 1:37 ? Can it be done through the home hub? I tried multiple commands and couldn't get it to do that. Thank you in advance!
YES!!! Exactly what i want to know.. maybe it's a tablet only mode thing?
What always freaks me out is the amount of data uploaded by each camera every month.. That's of course if it's on continuous and not event recording.. now imagine having four of those around the house.. same with green cameras. They upload 50 GB per camera..
How much is the paid plan...?
it took me a while to realize i had the power cord on backwards. It's so strange.
One power cord for two cams? Why is it not USB C? I put the security cases on mine and I think the night vision infrared are reflecting off the housing and washing out the picture. I haven't tried without the housing yet. Really wanted to love these but so far I'm meh....
Confirmed, I took off the security housing and the night vision wash out went away. They didn't even test this? I ended us putting it back on backwards so the security was still there but the overhang wasn't over the camera. This eliminates the IR lights washing out the image at night. Just be aware. Bad design.
Does it work with Alexa?
Are you in Arizona? That looks like my neighbors house in queen creek haha
Just FYI... if you buy the 2 pack of cameras you only get 1 charging cable. This sucks if you planned on keeping them both plugged in.
