I can believe the brown layer is oxidation, my Jeep sat for 2 years with literally undriven brand new Bridgestones on it before I got it running again. When I detailed it after it was fixed I scrubbed off a lot of brown. Tires have some sort of substance built into them that is squeezed out through the tires pores while they are rolling or even sitting with full pressure. When that substance is gone the tire is "dry" and dry rot sets in. Petroleum products and residue from roads can also degrade tires faster. RV owners can prolong tires by jack standing their rigs, releasing some tire pressure, and most importantly covering up tires to protect from Sun.
Love all the information you provide in your vids!

Darren, thank you for all the great knowledge you are passing along. As a driveway detailer I thought I knew a few things. I've learned I know nothing - but I'm making progress.

Thanks Darren. Have a gallon of it sitting here for when I run out of the other dressing and made me feel much more confident in using this for my future customer's cars! :)

If you haven't used it, Meguiar's All Season is fantastic. It is VOC compliant also. I cover the tire well and spread with a microfiber towel or applicator. After taking off the excess, it leaves a deep black shine that is much more durable than do it all dressings. Better yet, it does not streak or run off plastic surfaces like some.

Great video. Loaded with info. I think dressing works better in the sun due to the heat which opens up the pores in the rubber, similar to leather, which also has pores.

I love CG soap and I've been using their applicator pads and I've wondered about the dressing. I use Hyper Dressing just like you, well use to. Only thing about CG it's too many products and that's scary as a customer. I'm glad I got some good advice from this video. THANKS DARREN!!!

CG do carry tons of products, but they have a lot in order to cater to everyone. I love s go out their products. I use VRP on my own car tires but never on the interior. For customers I use the Silk Shine dressing, I use far less product and I can apply it faster. Looks great too!

what's your opinion with aerospace 303 compared to cg vrp and meg's x-press wax using these as a cleaner/detailer for inside the car only. i've been using 303 as of lately for interior materials, but have x-press wax to. didn't know if topping the 303 with the other stuff would have any adverse affects.

What about meguiars x press wax? Which one should you get to clean the plastic pieces around the car? X press wax or vrp

I love and appreciate your videos as a detailer. I have watched just about every one of them and in doing so have found that you suggest different products that do the same thing. In alot of your videos you push the Meguires Super Degreaser as a "go to" product, and yet in this video you push the Rapid Remover degreaser as your "go to" product. I guess my question is...What am I missing? Is there a specific reason, or do you use one degreaser for one application, and another for a different application?

Daren, do you think you will use chemical guys APC and their Super Degreaser instead of Meguiars. The Rapid Remover is great. I just used it yesterday to take some old glue off my wrecker. It also took off the bugs. Could you also do a demonstration of the Chemical Guys VRP on some trim and interiors. I know you don't like the shiny look on the interiors but I am looking for one product do work on all of these. Great video. You help us new guys out a lot.

Darren, When you stated the dressing working better in Direct sunlight, could this just be to the fact the tyre's are warm so the product is being pulled further in to the tyre, filling the small microscopic cracks??
P.S. I love how youtube is trying to tell me I Spelt tyre wrong lol

    • @autofetishdetail

Perhaps you can explain why making a ruhber tire look like glossy vinyl is desirable
Personally, i dont understand it. What products I apply to each vehicle surface.are determined by what preserves that material best, without changing its base characteristics or requiring more than quarterly applications to maintain performance or appearance.
To date I have found only one product that can be used anywhere on a modern cars' rubber, plastic, vinyl and "leather" (the first being plastic, the second being coated with it if not entirely made of it.) , and it seems to extend the lite and original appearance better than specialty products.
It is also water based. Its only disadvantage is that a day after application, any visible excess needs to be rubbed down/wiped off, which may not match your business needs, but is easily within the ability of most owners. The product is the original Aerospace Formula 303.
I've used this stuff for 20 years, on scuba equipped, tires on cars and put into storage, on exterior cladding and dashboards. When i dispose of tear or vehicles they are at least 10 years old. I've maintained them mefhanically, but have done little cosmetic maintenance beyond cleaning. I rarely wax my cars beyond whatever is in a wash and wax consumer car soap, but aside from parking lot dings they look early new when I prep them for disposal.
I started watching your videos after getting a used vehicle to replace one that had been totalled. It needed a lot of cleaning and spot repair to bring it close to what ive come to expect. Ive made some adaptations to your techniques to fit my circumstances. Your explanations helped me do so in a rational way, and for that I thank you.
I have been using some of your tips regarding how to apply soap and how to dry my latest vehicle, but have yet to observe the effects. The tips have helped reduce the time needed to wash it, so I'm inclined now to do it more frequently.
Keep tubingg, i can't be the only diyer who enjoys your videos

Silicone tire dressing has the best shine and lasts longer but is hard to get off, water based tire dressing gives a okay shine and doesn't last that long and if fairly easy to get off

Being able to wash off easily is an advantage to me. Some tyres brown quickly, what if you want to clean off the browning formed under the dressing and you cant wash the solvent based dressing off? With water based if things start to get dirty, you can easily wash it off and apply a fresh layer.

    • @bigb2259
      @bigb2259 8 років тому

well some products claim to offer protection uv rays and cracking but don't believe much about the protection part people only use it because it look good when your car's paint is like a mirror and your tires look dirty and dull so a dressing is a good option there is not much science in tire dressings i think for protection because the tires go through the most wear and tear than any other part of the vehicle
