We've Been Thunderstruck?! Reaction to Band-Maid "Puzzle" Live

- Our viewers said that this song had a sound reminiscent of AC/DC, which is Coach's favorite band. Evidently, the riff is similar to "Thunderstruck". This is Band-Maid, with "Puzzle", the official live video.

The rhythm guitarist is Miku Kobato. She is the band's founder, rhythm guitarist, second vocalist, main lyricist, main entertainer during Omajinai time, and band spokespigeon. She is the beating heart and soul of the band. IMHO
And on the quiet she has become one of the finest rhythm guitarists around.
One of the most remarkable figures in popular music of the 21st century. Mrs. Coach is very astute! Miku Kobato has a will of iron but portrays herself as the quintessential cutesy maid. In the Goldrush interview her fellow Maids say she is really like a middle aged businessman. There is no quit in Miku! She willed this band into existence and fought to make BandMaid into the superb ensemble it is today!
The Acoustic Version of SAYONAKIDORI is a must to hear Miku's beautiful voice.
agreed!
Yes, yes, yes! With the bonus of Akane singing back-up.
The only thing better than hearing one Band Maid song...hearing more than one. Love these ladies!
Have you done any of the Christmas Acoustic concert stream they did? Because the one of the best ways to hear Miku's voice is a song called "SAYONAKIDORI"... and the acoustic version from this concert they recomposed the songs to suit the Acoustic setting. That's where you get to hear Miku's voice.
Miku (rhythm guitar/red rose) has several songs which she is the main singer, but "Sayonakidori" (acoustic version) is the only one uploaded to their official YT channel: ua-cam.com/video/sGzAQigaL14/v-deo.html
This is a very good song and an awesome performance!
Miku's song Time is really good.
Miku has been playing guitar for 10 years now. She's worked hard while doing everything else at the same time.
There is Acoustic version of Puzzle, from 2018 Zepp Tokyo show, where just vocals Saiki and lead-guitarist Kanami are on the stage and performs this song so differently. It’s a must for you to check out😊
Puzzle is one of my favorite Band-Maid songs, and I love both this version and the acoustic from Zepp Tokyo. You get a very different feel between the two. If you read through the lyrics of this song, it is about a woman who is in love with a man who is having an affair with her. The electric version songs much angrier about it, while the acoustic sounds like the singer is upset with herself about it, but cant get out of the grip of her love. Two fantastic performances.
Miku usually gets one song per album where she is lead vocals. Miku's songs are (in order of release):
1. "Summer Drive"
2. "Big Dad"
3. "Beauty And The Beast"
4. "Time"
5. "Rock In Me"
6. "Sayonakidori" (Nightingale)
7. "Brightest Star" (On next album, not yet released)
To hear her sing try the acoustic version of "Sayonakidori". The MV is on their channel. (And Akane the drummer is on backing vocals)!
MISA the bassist is "The Barefoot Assassin" - she plays barefoot and looks like an assassin.
who is Acey Deesy? Is she any good?
"Sayonakidori" - acoustic for the win!
Breath Saiki breath. So many words.
Songs where Miku sings main vocals (Rhythm Guitarist/Main Lyricist). SAYONAKIDORI, Time, Rock in Me. I suggest starting out with SAYONAKIDORI. Consider doing a double reaction of the normal version and the acoustic version. You'll be blown away by her voice. Trust me.
Yes, unfortunately there are no official videos of theirs for any Miku songs other than for Sayonakidori acoustic.
@@bandmaidfanATL It's not that difficult to locate the Online okyuji version which might as well be official. Worst case scenario, they can just react to a live version fan recorded version. There's a bunch of good ones out there.
A double reaction for Sayonakidori would be awesome as there is a stark difference in the two.
We will definitely keep this in mind. Thanks!
A group like Band-Maid only comes around a few times a lifetime. They are the perfect storm of musicians.
Here's Miku, not singing but doing her MC, Omajinai. (Magic Spell Time). She does this a few time at LIVE shows as a sort of intermission and let the girls catch their breath. They come out hard, heavy and fast at all their shows so they do need a break......but Miku just keeps on going and going...like the Energizer Pigeon. Special Thanks to Ohrenje channel ua-cam.com/video/1XL3ICbJEgo/v-deo.htmlsi=eB__OdptIqWpHqTy
As most have suggested, Sayonakidori is one where Kobato-san sings. I suggest a double reaction in one video. Both the Sayonakidori (Studio version) [available LIVE but not official] and Sayonakidori (Acoustic version) [available officially]. There is also the song TIME which I think Mrs. Coach will enjoy. :)
I second this dual-video suggestion. Sayonakidori is probably my favorite Band Maid song (although it’s hard to commit to one song when they have so many great ones). The acoustic version is great, and is on their channel, but the regular live performance is also not to be missed! That one is not on their channel, but there are some high quality videos out there, and I’m sure someone can provide a good link.
This is one of my favorite Band-Maid performances.
Miku is the best! 🥰 as others have mentioned you need to check out the acoustic version of sayonakidori to hear our little pigeon sing
Breathe Saiki, breathe!
go with the acoustic version of Sayonakidori ... not only is it awesome but you get to see a whole different version of Band Maid.....
why why whyの🕊️も見て欲しい。
This was one of heaviest songs unto recently and what might freak you out a little is that they do an Acoustic version of this song with just the singer (Saiki) and Guitarist (Kanami) live - Totally different but the same song and equally as brilliant.
Can't beat this band.
There is an acoustic version of Puzzle. Saiki, and Kanami on guitar and singing backup! Try Wonderland to see MISA's bass line running the whole song in a jazzy vein. It is a Saiki and MISA song.
MIKU KOBATO !
please check out her solo project"cluppo"of this genius producer😊
song name
peace & love, flapping wings, pogo! , with you , spread your wings☺️
It's always funny to me that people's impression of MISA (The bassit) is on the serious, mysterious side of things. But my impression of her, because I watch all the behind the scenes stuff I can find of them, is that she is an adorkable, shy, fun loving woman. Hard to take her overly serious, when you've seen her dancing around silly with Akane, or run off camera giggling.
It's why they are my favorite band, because they are entertaining to watch on stage, and off. And the whole, over a hundred songs, and all of them are great for different reasons. That too.
That's awesome! 😄
Yes, the riff is Thunderstruckish. And that’s as close as Band Maid gets to AC/DC.
“Puzzle” is kinda cinematic to me; big and powerful. They have a few of these. “Wonderland” is probably the best showcase of Saiki’s vocal talents.
However, there is an acoustic version of “Puzzle.” Just Kanami on acoustic with Saiki, sitting quietly on stools and delivering one of the most emotional performances of their career. It’s uniquely powerful and completely different from the full band version. As much as Clapton’s “Layla.”
I’m trying to think of something for Mrs. Coach to highlight MISA. But she shines in nearly every song. She has a bass solo feature in half of Band Maid’s songs. “No god” is a song that has her jump up on a platform and slap away in the live version. And “Secret Maiko Lips” shows her playful side, the only vocals we have of her in a video: “woo-oooh-oop!” And she even wears the platform sandals in her traditional maiko kimono 👘
Miku is the rhythm guitarist and band founder, she is also the one who writes the lyrics. Such as this song which is about a woman who is in love with a married man feeling he is the piece of her puzzle she needs, only it will never happen because he is happily married. Each album has a song where Miku sings lead. The reason is rest during concerts for Saiki. They typically do 22 to 24 songs in a concert and half way Miku does a comedy skit with the audience called Miku's Magic Time and at the end she does one of the songs, then Saiki comes back on stage and they continue the concert. Miku also started a second band, Cluppo, it only involves her and some dudes she has as a backup band. She sounds great though the songs are more pop and pop rock as opposed to Band Maid which is mainly hard rock. Between her band maid songs and cluppo Miku sings maybe 12 songs. Also I have seen in concert a couple of times where she takes over for Saiki. One Saiki was being carried by the audience and lost her shoes on all that confusion Miku took over the lead. She is a really good singer, though she doesnt have Saiki's power.
Great comment. Thanks for sharing this info.
Miku's background vocals are a thing of beauty. Black Hole live is another song where she shines. For her singing lead, search "Band-Maid Sayonakidori" and there is an acoustic live version and an electric live version. Both are fantastic.
For more fantastic Miku background vocals, Corallium is a must listen -- Live at Shibuya Eggman, Hibana from the same shoe, and Why Why Why from an online Day of Maid show. These are all from the unofficial Instrumental Maid channel -- all top quality official live recordings unofficially released but not struck down by Band-Maid.
Thanks for the reaction and comments. No need for me to repeat what others have already stated. FYI...Miku has a side project called Cluppo that you might want to check out. There are 4 MVs available on her UA-cam channel. And the genre is J-Pop or City-Pop. Cheers!
Good info. Thanks!
Yeah! Miku is great on this. Sounds great on the main riffs and her harmonies are so good and that's not easy live.
“Sayonkadori” - acoustic live Christmas concert MV is available on their channel - it’s a “Miku Song”.
There’s a couple unofficial videos of them playing the album, full electric, version of “Sayonakidori” that you should definitely check out. Miku’s vocals have a beautiful, pleasing quality to match the lyrics.
Take care and rock on! 🤘🏼🔥🎸🥁🎤🎼🎹🌎😎✌🏼
The first song I heard from BAND-MAID and still my favorite song. That's really saying something, considering just how many amazing songs they have.
MISA is majestic on stage...a powerhouse!
Classic *BAND MAID!*
🕊🕊🕊
As @reconbbs360 mentions those are a few of the *Miku* fronted songs.
Miku, rhythm guitar, sounds so clear on this track, which is what I like best about this version. If you want to see her sing, try "Sayonakidori". It's the best.
The bass player is so called "Barefoot Assassin". She used to keep a bottle of whisky on top of her amp and it's very rare that she expresses her emotions with her face. Damn cool player.
By the way, I love the guitar solo on this track. We can't find that tasty guitar solo these days.
Songs featuring Miku are 'Rock In Me' and 'Sayonakidori'. She has also done solo stuff as Cluppo. If you want to hear the other girls singing, Akane sings backing vocals on the acoustic version of 'Saonakidori' and there's also an acoustic version of this song with Kanami singing backing vocals.
IM A HUGE BANDMAID FAN..I LOVE ALL OF THEIR MATERIAL...I HOPE YOU LIKE THIS ❤❤❤❤❤
Mrs Coach. Misa, the bassist fascinates us all. The most enigmatic member all of the Maids.
Her epithet is "The Barefoot Assassin". Two reasons. She plays live shows in bare feet. And also, her clothes are styled on an 'Assassin Maid's' outfit.
But also... She kills the bass. Any bass guitar she hasn't killed, has ended up spending time in therapy.😄
😂
Puzzle was one of the songs that sealed me in as a Madiac. Starting with Dice, then Play, Puzzle and Moratorium. Those three are sill in my top ten songs. Ever! I get you about liking new stuff as you get older. I was not into metal when I was younger! The hardest I went was AC/DC, Van Halen, White Zombie, and some NIN. Now I’m listening to more metal than I ever did before.
This performance of the song is a great showcase for Miku, thanks to some excellent mixing, her throaty Zemaitis stands out in stark contrast to the brightness of Kanami's PRS so you can hear clearly how much work she is doing. The backing vocal part is also distinctive allowing you to hear her hit and sustain those notes perfectly (although once you've heard Kanami sing the same part in the acoustic version, it will never let go of your heart). And lastly, for me these are some of Miku's best lyrics, her ability to tell a whole back story in a few seemingly inconsequential words is as good as any poet could hope for.
Well boy... I'm finding myself watching a lot of your videos - guess it's time to Sub! I appreciate watching you reach out to different kinds of music, especially all of these amazing Girl Bands that are doing such amazing work. Great job, and Rock On! 🤘😎👍
Welcome aboard officially. 😁

If you want live Miku vocals, Sayonakidori is a good place to start: ua-cam.com/video/wbXUXVmu_X4/v-deo.html
The acoustic version mentioned previously by other comments is fantastic btw!
Here's the live acoustic version of Sayonakidori which features Miku singing solo:
ua-cam.com/video/sGzAQigaL14/v-deo.html
Miku sings TIME and also ROCK IN ME, SYANOKIDORI (I know I spelled that wrong).
Coach -- I believe you're gonna wanna know the Maids names at some point:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, Vocals, Lyricist, SpokesPigeon, and Founder
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead Guitar, Keyboards, Main Composer
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" aka: MISA MISA MISA - Bass
Much appreciated.
So MISA's not called the "Silent Assassin" after all? Mr & Mrs coach were trying to deceive me then.😯
@@GaryHolloway-810 LOL No 'cause, MISA ain't silent, bass wise, anyway. And I change Saiki's moniker from "Ice Queen" to StarQueen" cos, as it turned out, Saiki is maybe the most emotional Maid... we'll, next to Mincho. But also, maybe because I have a certain alien "Star chic" in mind. 🌟
@@TomClark-Futoura I knew that's why you called her StarQueen, you couldn't disguise that from me.😉
@@GaryHolloway-810 Yeah, Saiki is a Musonic Being! 🎶
This has been posted for 6 hours and I'm only seeing it now - thanks different time zones! Always look forward to seeing you both excited about seeing another Band-Maid MV! Miku's vocal harmonies are so beautiful in PUZZLE . 🤘🤘 Miku Kobato, the Little Pigeon, is a force of nature and the epitome of having untiring determination to attain one's goals. The song I'd recommend the most if you want to see her singing solo is the acoustic version of SAYONAKIDORI ( ua-cam.com/video/sGzAQigaL14/v-deo.htmlsi=pU6u8dDEiZet32WT ), from the xmas day 2021 acoustic set of 14 songs. She also plays solo guitar on it, alongside MISA on electric bass and Akane on drums - using bamboo rods to keep it subdued - and also providing some backing vocals. Her other vocal solo song is ROCK IN ME and, while it's not available as a link I can post, if you google 'Miku - Rock in me' you'll find some great fancams of it...or click on my avatar here on YT and check my Band-Maid videos and listen to the audio with an animated loop of Miku that I made! 🤘🤘 PS - ‘SA-YO-NAKI-DORI' (that'll help when you have to say it for your reaction - which we're all going to love seeing!)’ means ‘Nightingale’ and translates, very beautifully as SA (small) YO (dawn/night) NAKI (singing) DORI (bird).
Thanks for this info. 😀👍

An early version of "Puzzle" is one of their MV"s that got me hook line and sinker. Difference with this version, Miku.
Miku solo - "Sayonakidori" 2 versions, full roar and acoustic. Both are killers.
Miku did not know how to play the guitar when she founded Band Maid. Kanami was her sensi. She is the primary lyricist.
A/C A/C, huh. Haven't figured out that Angus has been playing the same solo riffs for the last 40 years.
Please react on Enhypen's new MV "Fatal Trouble" and the album "Memorabilia".... please
If you want a Miku Song you could do Sayonakidori and make it a double feature with the regular Live and the acoustic Live.

Just genius- Sweep picking from Kanami. Intro to Kanami's solo played by Miku. Best for old age broccoli and salmon- GPs orders.
Coach, if you want to see how great Saiki is as a singer, react to "Puzzle", the official live acoustic. It's the same song, and the same lyrics, but with an entirely different feel. Get some Kleenex if you do.
I agree with Ms. Coach about MISA. I think that MISA and Akane are the most intuitivel brilliant "rhythm section" in rock and roll today.
If you want to hear Miku sing listen to Peace and love from her band Cluppo. Also Puzzle and Anemone are available live in acoustic versions and work better because Puzzle is about a girl who falls in love with a married man knowing that he will never leave his wife. Try some early BAND-MAID Freezer , Shake that , key , i can't live without you . There's also a very rude song , Dont let me down. Before yesterday is one of my personal favourites.
Miku also has a solo project with more of a "pop" sound. cluppo / PEACE & LOVE ua-cam.com/video/kR-FPvYgPjM/v-deo.html
Time rock into me and saya nakadori are miku songs
Have you listened to “The Hu”? Try Wolf Totem or Black Thunder. Fantastic Mongolian heavy metal. The guys are terrific people as well
To see Miku sing, try the song Rock In Me, one of the live videos.
Best comment I've seen is from Chan Fry in his own reaction's comments section:
"Thunderstruck" was in my top five favorites for several years, so yeah, I feel silly for not immediately making the connection. Just now, listening to Kanami's cyclic riff and comparing it side-by-side with A. Young's riff, yes, they do have the same idea... BUT, and this is a huge "but", I should have never listened to them side by side. After hearing "Puzzle", the drums in Thunderstruck sound so incredibly boring (with minor exception of when they first come in), the bass guitar made my soul flatline, and I realized that the lead guitar riff is about the only thing that song has going for it. Wow.
Hi Coach, just cos you asked me nicely here are Miku vocal songs in no particular order.
"Beauty & the Beast",
"Rock in Me",
"Summer Drive",
"Big Dad",
"Sayonakidori",
"Brightest Star",
"Time".
And as everyone knows "Time" is Miku's best song whether electric or acoustic :)
Very good info. Thank you!
CLUPPO!!!
@@TomClark-Futoura Oh yeah, "Peace & Love" is my fave Cluppo song, then "Voice" & that's it :)
@@GaryHolloway-810 Those, and I even like "With You" mostly cause of the vibe.
Another japanese band you have to try is Hanabie
I really the it when people insist on trying to make comparisons between bands of the past and current bands . To me AC/DC will always sound like AC/DC - Band Maid will always sound like Band Maid - Lovebites will always sound like Lovebites , Metallica will always sound like Metallica 🤷♂ .
There are only so many notes you can play on a guitar and so many ways you can hit a drum - so apart from having instruments in common every band is individual ( although some are MUCH better than others 😉 )
The third word should read ' HATE ' 🙄😄
If you likeBand Maid, you gotto check out Aldious the song Dominator, do the Live version Radiant A O East, Radiant A is the album tour and O East is the venue.
I think you 2 will enjoy this song
I 'm an old man loyal to classic rock for the last 50 years until blackpink debuted I have been a blink ever since. About the same time I came across a young girl named Courtney Hadwin a phenomenal singer compared by many to Janis Joplin. I realize you won't be doing a reaction for a single request but do yourself a favor take 5 minutes and just watch Courtney Hadwins 2018 audition on AGT. There is a very deep rabbit hole from there if you want to follow. Peace and long life
I´ve just listened to Courtney Haldwin and I really like her. She belongs to the group of singers on the level of Saint Lu (Don't Miss Your Own Life), Anouk (Nobody's Wife) and Beth Hart. I have always been amazed by the presence, charisma and energy these ladies have. Very, very worth listening to.
