I haven’t seen Severance yet. However, your video makes me interested in seeing it! The office building where Severance occurs is about an hour from me; it’s the Bell Works complex in Holmdel, NJ. I’ve photographed it in the past.
If you could shed some light onto the meaning of this show I’d love to watch your video. I got 5 hours deep into Severance and I feel so drained and baited along (as with ALL of AppleTV shows) that I gave up on finding a relatable character or understanding their motivation. Visually, I agree with you. The photography is very powerful in conveying the claustrophobia of the hallways, or when a character is trapped at the edge of the wide aspect ratio. I just can’t stand hour after hour, after hour of beautifully rendered, but hollow and confusing artistry.
The DP Jessica Gagne whose influence was a photographer Lars Turnbjork but the look also reminds me of Wes Anderson's films. Wes Anderson's influence for framing was Buster Keaton. Thank you Tatiana for your series, it leads me down the rabbit hole of discovery.
Scrolling through the comments, I'm not sure anyone mentioned Mad Men yet. The story takes place decades ago and the cinematography obviously draws directly from that period, or from our recollection / assumption of what that period looked like. Every frame is surgically built and conveys ideas about our relationship to the professional world and about the way we exist within professional premises. It's not such a stretch to say that both series address this common subject matter, although in different ways and probably with different outcomes.
Oh yes I actually watched Mad Men way back in the way, it was really good from what I can remember, it always reminds me of Richard Yates’ novels and he’s my favourite writer. Yes I think both shows touch on this idea of corporate world, power, corruption but in different ways I’d say.
I am hooked on Severance, I'm intrigued by the concept of this series and curious where the next episodes will take us. This was a very detailed analysis of the show Tatiana; I agree with all the parallels you made to the photography world. I believe I mentioned Tales from the Loop on a previous video, the series is based on an art book by Swedish artist Simon Stalenhag and is worth checking out. Congrats on this very informative and engaging episode!
Thank you Sebastian, just like you I’m hooked! I have a couple of theories because I so desperately want to make sense of it all ahah. Yes you did and I need to check it out, also have I mentioned “From” to you? I’m even more hooked on that one if that’s possible 😅

Where can I watch Severance ?
@Nightmvoeskn5zg Currently streaming on Apple TV (at least in Europe).
@@TatianaHopper thanks!
Silo (also Apple Tv) has a wonderful visual style and colour palette imo...

The show is superb. The cinematography is also superb.
Agreed, thanks for watching!

Very interesting rabbit hole. Thanks for watching John!
Yes. Absolutely agree - this is a stunning series visually, and I've found myself taking screenshots! Thanks for this. Fantastic.
Same here, thanks for watching!
This is a STELLAR visual analysis of the show. Good work!
I love how Harmony Cobel’s front door is higher than Mark’s on the outie world. Great set direction in the show too!
Love this show and this channel! I like that this show uses visual language as much as the dialog to tell the story.
Completely agree! Thanks for giving the video a watch Steve!

@@TatianaHopper Where is From streaming on? I don't recall you mentioning that series, I'll take your word on it being worth watching!
I’ve watched it on sky Atlantic / sky Max. I’m not if it’s the same streaming service in Canada. I think you’ll enjoy it.
@ I will seek it out for sure, thanks for the recommendation!
Excellent analysis. Fritz Lang's visual language (albeit desaturated) is very similar to this particular movie.
Fitz Lang is one of my favourite directors ever, I feel like I should include his work in a future video. Thanks for watching Dan!
Keep it up Tatiana, love tour work, greetings from Mexico:-)
Thank you Andre 🤝🏻
Thanks for another video and for not really giving spoilers or so I think (I haven’t watched it yet).
I don’t think I have, obviously had to give some context to certain aspects but haven’t really spoiled it :)
Absolutely a great show and great connection with Tunbjörk. I would also add Jeff Wall, the mood of this show always makes me think of his images.
I got to admit I’m not overly familiar with Jeff Wall’s work, but I’ll give it a look, thanks for the lead and for watching :)
@@TatianaHopper Yes do a little research it's worth it!
I have noticed a lot of videos on Severance lately. I haven’t watched it but it looks interesting.
Give it a try, season one is pretty good, season two I cannot vouch for just yet, it’s currently being streamed weekly on Apple TV.
The story feels like straight out of a Philip K Dick novel! love it already!
Oh yes great comparison there I agree, it’s been a long time since I’ve read some science fiction!
@@TatianaHopper I'm a huge PKD fan, and I think this story really resonates with some of his recurrent topics :)
I used to read a lot of it and Ray Bradbury, also Asimov.
Escape at Dannemora - same director / same cinematographer as Severance... highly recommended
I found out about whilst preparing for this video, it’s been on my watchlist ever since.
Ripley set a high bar so I’ll definitely check out Severance solely based on your suggestion … ta very much! 📷☕️🇨🇦🙂
Thank you! Definitely let me know if you enjoy it!
