All true points about this lake. This is one of my all-time fav lakes to fish. Beautiful views. I remember getting up there early. I rode my Mt Bike up the Spooner > Marlette trail with all my gear. And I waded out in the south end and caught some good size fish. Brooks the size of footballs! Good stuff PD!
I wish the spooner route was open for me that day as I lost the trail on the way back as it was getting dark! The Chimney Beach trail didn't have signs and the trail gets faint at spots. I had to rambo it straight down the mountain offtrail.
I’ve had good luck with olive and black buggers or a black cone head sculpin. Try using a sinking line next time. The waters have some of the biggest brook trout I’ve ever seen (+20in). Love the content of my local waters!
@@purpledrakefishing unfortunately yes. Check the deep spots around the lake and areas not readily accessible from land. Tough hike with all that gear though definitely worth it if you get a cold morning with still water. Mind the season limits too
Love all of your vids. Started going for trout this year and just got a beginner 4-wt fly outfit and been watching your videos. Like the little part about set up at the end and also watching how you work the area.
Same here man 🤙🏽🎣 mine is a 5wt though so I can hopefully have the extra back up when I hook up to a big fish. I heard 3wts down and 7wts up are specialty rods. In my opinion I feel like a 4wt 5wt are perfect for both big fish and small fish. As long as your tippet can handle it lol 😅
@@fishingwithdrake8090 I have yet to catch anything. Just not skilled enough but putting in the time and watching lots of videos. Lemme check out your new channel.

Hey man, I'm trying to get into fly fishing, do you got any recommendations for a beginner setup, just as far as the right weight to buy? Looking for something that can handle a bigger fish but still makes the little ones fun.
4wt will be good. Although 5wt is what you will see most reccomened for beginners, I think it is overkill for trout. There are a lot of good affordable options nowadays for fly rod-reel/line combos out there. For instance the Reddington Path Combo is solid. TFO, St Croix, Orvis and Cabelas also have good ones.
Hi Marco, This is Purple Drake. I have moved my channel to "Fishing With Drake" Hope to see you there soon! Did you get a fly rod and start fly fishing?
Yes, would be great to have, especially on the west shore with all the trees over the water. I just got a 4wt two handed rod that I will be trying out soon 🍻
@@purpledrakefishing I recently got an 11'3" 3-wt two-hander, which I used up at the Kootenai River in northern Montana. I would advise a bit of practice if you have not already, as the casting strokes are quite different from the single-handed. Having said that, the two-hander can throw out line like no-body's business!

Agree with the sink tip--wish I had it with me. I am guessing a float tube would also help to target the larger fish.

Thanks 🍻 What is your biggest fish you have gotten from there? I have heard there are some over 20" but they are down deep and are rare.
That area is so pretty! Hope the PF is feeling better too.
It did flare up on the hike back but luckily was fine the next day. That was the first time I really tested it on a long hike.

My man what do you do for work? I need to get as much time off for fishing as you do
Yeah I've heard there are supposedly big fish in there?
Yes, but I think there aren't many of them.
Hey PD, this might be a good candidate for a two handed rod, or switch rod, to get casts further out? What do you think?

You're fishing a weighted Bugger, with a split shot, on a 2WT...interesting.
