- The First episode in a mini rewire series. We plan to cover the rewire as a whole over 2 episodes with small episodes covering things like chasing, consumer unit installation and filling/bonding chases etc.
In this one I show the various options for chasing into wall surfaces for both back boxes and cable routes. A small clip from a bigger rewire series covering many aspects of everything carried out during a rewire.
This is chasing into old plaster and brick.
Use of Angle grinder, wall chaser, multi tool, sds chisels (various) and more. Some hints and tips for a good result.
Thank you once again for a very informative video for us noobs. Gives a real insight into the effort and techniques needed. Appreciated.
Thanks for watching and sticking with the channel. Really appreciate it.
An exellent demo sir.
Look after your corners and your corners will look after you 👍🏻
100% they will. Cheers for watching!
Good saying
Excellent video, thanks
Lovely video
Some chases worthy of an art museum there matey 👌🏼
Thanks mate! Could you imagine that here we have a chase by what we believe to be an electrician. While this pile of rubble here is suspected to be a plumbers attempt 🤣.
Thanks for watching!
Incredible👍👍👍
Great video Mark!
Thanks for watching mate. Appreciate that!
Like that scoop fitting
Really enjoyed this video some great ideas. Toolstation do SDS bits that look like those dewalt ones.
Thank you
Very nice and neat jobs. Electricians here in Greece will go full gorilla mode, demolish your house to the point you have to build bricks again and replaster whole walls.
Καλό απόγευμα. Thank you. We try to be as neat as possible.
Should link some of the bits and blades you use, I know I'm always looking for multi tool blades for use on plaster, I know there's one out there that can be used on brick but never found where to get it. Great video though it's definitely going to help so many people out there.
I always forget the links mate. Will edit the description up and drop some in! Thanks for watching
The best techniques for chasing cables is, walk to the job centre and get a different job!
See the plug point that was on the skirting board. Can u change them without digging into the walls ?
Cheers
Please what type of angle grinder could I use to chase walls please
Good video but did I miss you using the Millwakee?
Wow, love your voice! And the info you put out . Much appreciated. What is that grinder dust guard you are using at the end? seems to be quite good at collecting dust compared to the titan chaser. I’m trying to make up my mind between the titan and grinder dust guard or just bite the bullet and get the metabo.. any advice is much appreciated
It's the bosch grinder attachment. Works really well but if you do a lot of chasing I would get the metabo tbh.
@@electrician247 thanks very much Mark, I don’t do a lot of chasing so I think I will go with the Bosch guard. Cheers
@@tonygoshive785 please what type of grinder goes with the bosh guard
@@user-sk2ms6zn7h I think any 125mm ones
Hi mark , is that Bosch SDS the version with 7.joules . I think it's a Gbh 18v 36C .model .
Lovely neat work as usual .👌👍
Hi, this is the version before that. Not quite as powerful but plenty enough for chasing. Thanks so much for watching and dropping a comment!
@@electrician247 thanks Mark. Great channel
The dust extractor on your Bosch, never seen it before, any details on it, does it fit all Bosch, how does it fit and where does the hoover fit on it, great vids thankyou.
It only fits certain models of the 18V range. Few different versions are available. No hoover to attach, it is a hoover itself with a capsule for the dust etc. Really good solution.
Hi mark , long time watcher of your vlogs ... Question ...is it best getting a SDS+ with 3.2 joules or get a high powered SDS+ w a 7.2 joules ..both are £750 -£800 .
Is it worth it 🤔Thank You for your informative Video 🙋
We have the really punchy ones but I prefer the lightweight ones tbh. The heavier hitter only comes out on blue brick and concrete. To much weight to be chasing all day with for me.
@@electrician247 Thanks for your advice Mark .😍🙋
Link to the dewalt chisel bit mate?👍🏽
The one in the video is no longer available anywhere for some reason. The other version of sds they have one for around £100 I will try find a link.
Mark, did you see the way Nick fixed his oval conduit on his last re-wire? It’s a really nice way, I tried it the other week and I think it’s better than screwing either side. great vid nice to see different ways of chasing out and the different attachments as I tend to stick to the same way every time
Yes mate thats a wicked way to fix oval back. We couldn't find the all round band or we would have copied 100%. Maybe next time!
Thanks for watching mate. Appreciate that
Been looking for one of them dewalt sds chisels for a while but think they have been discontinued
That would be a massive shame. You can get the other SDS type for about £100 but same cant find these anywhere
@@electrician247 Bosch do one in sds plus but it’s £80
@@robswingler yeah I have seen them. Armeg have one for around £40 might try those next or just a cheap and chearful brick raking bit to give a try.
Toolstation do heller bits like the dewalt one for just over £15.
@@gavindebrito7117 I saw them the other day but wasnt sure on the ability to chop brick. For the money worth a shot though! You tried them?
Hi we’re do get your full face masks from?
Amazon in this case. Thanks for watching!
What mask are you using? Does it have a hepa filter on it?
Yes it does. Full face fit. However since replaced. This is a few years old now.
@@electrician247 do you have a recommendation for a similar one
5:28 Those armeg SDS scutch attachments aren't much cop are they? They work great for the first 10 minutes. Then they do exactly what it did in your video: The scutch bit slides sideways out of the jaws' grip. So you smash it back in place with a hammer, try again, and 20 seconds later it slides out again. Maddening. I have tried all sorts to get them to stay put - jubilee clip around it, whack the jaws in the hope they tighten, etc. but nothing works for long. Not cheap either.
Have exactly the same problem! Almost from new as well. Given up with it tbh but thought I would try and demo it. Its a shame as when it works its really good!
@@electrician247 yep, for those first sweet 10 minutes of its working life, it's great. Then, useless!
This is what I use now. Occasionally you have to cut new teeth into it with the angle grinder, but other than that it's pretty good:

@@andrewcadby thanks will give them a try! Appreciate that

Not one video on UA-cam with n actual brick wall. All these so called electricians conveniently have only plaster to get through which is easy
That's brick 🥸
Looks like a breezeblock at best. Not the solid orange house bricks.
What are the names of the different drill bits I’m on a apprenticeship at the moment to be a electrician just needed some extra tools but not sure of the names
What a great video really enjoyed that.Oddly enough I was bring the cables in the left hand side of the box with the adjustable lugs in the right. No reason why.See in the way you scoop out that plaster I would love to be able to do that but the bricks and plaster around my way solid there would be no chance we always have to grind I am interested in getting one of those shoes or shrouds for my Grinder great video thanks a lot mate
We generally have the same trouble up here mate. It was very much a get in there moment when they was so soft lol. Like a 2010 onwards arsenal midfield.
The shroud is fantastic. The grinder we use will take 125mm discs which gets us a bit deeper without the guard. But limited to 25mm I think on this one. Zero dust though which is a win!
Thanks for watching mate, appreciate that a lot.
