One thing I found doing this last night: the length of the hold short runway line marking matters. If the line you draw is too short you won't get the runway number painted on the ground. When you get to some minimum length it will pop in the left one, then if you make it even longer it'll pop in the right one as well.
Brilliant tutorials they have really helped me get started. One thing im struggling with is getting my custom models into the objects list. Is there a certain file structure within the airport folders that I need to do? Hope that makes sense.
Hi there! I am just trying to wrap my head around the SDK and videos like yours are really helpful, so thanks a lot! I have a question though. In all the tutorials I have seen so far people start with an airport that doesn't exist. What if I want to edit an existing airport? Do I have to create a new airport project on top of it or can I get into the actual file and start messing with taxiways etc. I have used polygons to delete MSFS generated objects, but I can't get rid of parked cars and other objects. The included documentation isn't very specific when it comes to this. Many thanks.
Glad you are finding the tutorials useful! We can't currently open and edit existing airports. You have to just create an airport in the same place and choose which parts of the old one you wish to delete. I go over this in my second tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/xWxJW6cHPpc/v-deo.html As for deleting objects, you either use the polygon to remove buildings which it sounds like you have worked out, or use an exclusion rectangle for things that don't seem to disappear with polygons.
@@Benney thank you for the quick reply. I used to build airports in X-plane. I was hoping to be able to use some of that knowledge, but it seems MSFS is a completely different beast. I work as an airline pilot (A320) and my goal would be to re-create my home base. Since it is a large airport I will try something smaller first. I hope I will figure it all out somehow. Thanks again.
@@Benney First, thanks for doing all of these videos. SDK is pretty intimidating for many of us so these are much appreciated. Secondly, are you saying the annoying taxiway lights that have been misplaced everywhere cannot be removed? If they can, could you perhaps do a video on how to accomplish this? Thanks again for all of your efforts.
@@stevekrubeck2861 If you choose to remove the taxiways it should remove any taxiway lights that were placed along with them. I think there are also options to delete lights.
@@Benney Would it be possible to do a short step by step video showing us SDK "challenged" people how to do it? Like I mentioned before, this program is pretty intimidating to those of us who have never used it. Thanks again for all of your work!
Now that I've hacked at my local little airport I'm finding I want to do all these videos on other ones I'm flying in to. The taxiways are just so broken in some of the places I fly regularly.
THanks very much for your help and for those qualities videos :) Is there scheduling another chapter ? I would like implement my building on airport. I arrive to do for one, but don't know how manage projet for post of 1 building. Many thanks again for your job
Hi, can you do a video on how to create custom ground painted gate and taxi signs for airports? They're not there in the base game so I think you might have to use blender, but please make one as not a single other person has!!!
You need to add object Airport then you can get rid of stuff, you have to export it and move it in your community folder then work from that else the sim will still load the sign even if in your package are correctly removed :)
As Neil says you need to set the angle on the PAPI, you'll find this in the properties panel of the runway or PAPI. For most airports this will be 3 degrees for a standard glide slope. You should be able to find the actual angle in the aerodrome/terminal chart for your airport.
is there no way to just edit the signs? i.e the one im editing the actual airport signs at the holding point show 06-24 but sim it just shows 24? (EGPH).. its only two entry points so easy to delete
You can't "edit" any parts of an existing airport. What we can do is choose to delete parts of the original and replace them with your own creation. So set the delete option for taxiway signs on the airport properties to true and create your own taxiway signs.
There should be an option in the properties of the runway, in the markings section. I believe it is called European runway numbers or European markings. That will make the runway numbers on your runway have a leading zero as well.

Yeah, I show that a bit in the latter part of the video. It's because it adjusts for the taxiway and the runway in front of the hold short.

Yeah that's the main reason I'm making airports too. Shame we can't just edit the taxiways and leave everything else.

@@Benney many thanks :)
Glide slope lights/end of runway lights is worth a tutorial, I've played with it a bit and the terms are not easy
Good suggestion, they aren't the most straightforward things to place.

Yeah I was planning to do that at some point! I'll have to see the best way to do it, my ideas are either aprons or using the projected meshes.
@@Benney Absolute legend! I've managed to make the shape but have absolutely no idea how to texture it!
Does anybody know how to delete default taxiway markings? I have duplicated taxiways markings

some airports in the sim has no taxiways singe how we can solve it should I wait for an update from Microsoft
How to add working PAPI lights, I managed to add papi lights but the actual light is always WHITE, they don't change as I approach the runway
I'm pretty sure you have to set the approach angle on the PAPI. I'm gonna play with this later today and will report back.

How do you get the runway markings to say "02", I have a runway which is 26-08 but the 08 just displays at 8. I can't see how to make it 08. Thanks!

SDK for taxiway signs are so useless as they don't load now. Wish I was able to use this version.
