This tutorial, is the best one on this subjec. It is easy and clear to understand. Congratulations! Obviously I am subscribed and I will watch (and save!) all the ones you have on the list. Well done!
This is excellent, thank you. I'm looking forward to future videos, specifically on how to add features like fences. My local little airport is never going to get treatment from Asobo so I want to at least add some fences in to make it look more like real life.
When I create a new project and override the existing airfield mine doesnt start bare like yours. All the defult scenery is there. How would I go about starting new with nothing there?
Excellent Video! Question - What happens when I place the airport, then runway, but my runway never has a texture. Also If I go to other airports and enter Devmode, Taxiway and Runway Textures disappear. I am searching hard for a solution but haven't found one. TIA
It's really good video with all needs necessary info, but my project is just a mess - some issues with directories or paths, or whatever... Looks like we need an update related to the latest SDK build ;-)
This is weird, I’ve just started watching your tutorials because I wanted to build a custom version of my local airport. Then when you started entering the name for the airport you’re doing, i saw that it was Doncaster Sheffield, which is the one I wanted to create 🤣 did you manage to finish it?
Great video, look forward to trying it out and following the rest. Will you show how to remove existing buildings so others can be added or how to expand an ajrport area? I want to create a fictional airport over a small airfield so may need more space.
is there a way to just edit the existing airport? my airport that I want to edit has random taxi way names and I just want to change them not re create them all from scratch
i dont knwo if i missed something but Normaly when I'm building a airport in MSFS the runway outline appears but not the asphalt and other textures don't appear (oh yeaah and I added the runway)
lol, it says 1 failed for me but it still shows up perfectly, i have no clue about this stuff so thanks a lot for this very usefull and simple tutorial!
Thanks for the tutorial series, I learn much stuff from your videos. I have a small question, I build an airport but after I build the project it doesn't apply to the ICAO code of the airport I desire. for example when I fly in a pattern, my log shows a different airport. An airport near my desired airport. how can I fix this problem?
Hey @BenneyBoy444, your tutorial is amazing!!! I would like to ask you something. I need just put a hangar in a farm where there are 2 grass runway. This place do not have a ICAO because is a particular area. How can I do this, creating the hangar object without creating a airport? Thank you in advanced. (I'm from Brazil).
3/14/2022 I'm struggling to learn how to edit an airport, as of today the new SDK and developer tool has completely changed. It almost looks as if they radically changed to directory structure. None on these 2020-2021 videos works anymore.
Have you figured out how to set the "priority" of crossing runways? The airport I'm working on has Runway 12 active and runway 8 permanently closed. When I add runway 8 and mark it as closed it draws overtop of runway 12, including adding an X right in the middle of runway 12.
I'm getting an error on building that says Asset group is nested in one another or has already been added 'ContentInfo' in directory '*directory to the packages content info*'. Any ideas?
This is expected. When your create an airport object it removes all other airports from the area. If you are wanting to keep the existing runway then make sure you leave runways unchecked in the to delete options. When you load your mod into the sim the original runway will be there, just not in the scenery editor.
Thanks man ...I started afresh and am almost there without errors..AI aircrafts are now following the runway but with one problem somehow all the ai aircrafts start rolling from almost past one third runway (from taxiway-runway junction) though the start positions are at respective ends....So when starting from gate with default ai pilot, big jets don't get enough railway for takeoff...Any suggestions to fix it.. Thanks
hello, very nice tutorials but unfortunately I cant compile my airport after adding the runways, is there a way you could check my file and see what is wrong please
Hi Reece. Thanks for this video - exactly what I was looking for! I have a little project to work on; wondered if you could confirm what I'm thinking please. I'm enjoying flying VFR around 'RAF Lincolnshire'; RAF Scampton, Conningsby and Cranwell all have nicely mapped Rwy, Taxi, Aprons and Parking - But Waddington (EGXW) doesn't. Its just the runway, with the taxiways just showing as a weird half grass image, and no parking. Frustrating as you always have to start engine running on the Rwy. So I thought why not follow your tutorials and see what I can do to improve it!!! So finally, to my question ;) Do I need to redo the Rwy, as its all good, and has its ILS etc all set up. I think I can just map the taxiways, aprons and parking as you demonstrate in later vids? But how do I link them to a Runway that doesn't exist in my project? Can I 'Call in ' the runway from the original scenery? Thanks mate. Mark.
Airport projects in MSFS just overwrite parts of the base airport if it already exists in the sim. You choose which parts to overwrite in the delete section of the airport properties. So for your airport just don't tick delete runways (and ILS etc). Then create taxiways over the top, making sure you create a runway taxiway path like I show in this video: ua-cam.com/video/ekRm-723JhU/v-deo.html
I am trying to add a brand new airport in the middle of nowhere. when I try to add airport it shows I can name it a choice of airport-- or by lat-long, but it does not show how to name by lat-long which is what I need
Are you editing them outside of the sim? Generally I don't touch or care about the layout and manifest files, I haven't had a need to yet with the airports I've created.
Hi there, nice vid. I have a question; when I try to dock the windows to left, the whole thing just freezes and I have to shut it down. Now, after reinstalling SDK I have the exact same problem, the window is half-docked and I can't do anything.
I haven't had any issues with the windows in devmode so afraid I can't help much. There is this thread on the forums, maybe it can help forums.flightsimulator.com/t/window-management-works-better-now-but-still-freezing-occurs/339228
I used the latest version of SDK and there are some changes.. But my first try failed - there was an asteric on the name. I had no runway listed even though I created one and saved it didn't show up under the airport name. Now when I try and redo it I am told the airport code is already used.. yet when I search for it it's not there.. Please help.. thanks
You have to enable developer mode then spawn at the airport you want to edit (or just near its location if it doesn't exist in the sim) then create or open a project. I have a video showing how to do this: ua-cam.com/video/WJONORUr44Y/v-deo.html
@@Benney Thanks heaps mate, i have created Auckland airport all thanks to all your help mate and uploaded it to flightsim.io I have one question regarding taxi-signs... Is there something I am doing wrong or is it a "msfs bug" but I seem to be fighting a battle were I see the taxi signs as I write them up then for it to randomly disappear and just be a red dot for a random moment later I can see the sign again??
As far as I know in the current SDK you can't "edit" airports as such. What you have to do is add another airport object over the top and add things to it. For example you could create a new airport with just parking markings, do not select any of the delete options in the airport properties and then your additions will load on top of the existing airport.
Is there a tutorial on how to create an airport terminal? My hometown airport only shows the jetways there is no actual building connected to them. And what program would you suggest to create the terminal?
I've not made a video on custom scenery yet. You can either try and find a building in the scenery editor that suits your airport, or use modelling tools like Blender and make it from scratch. There are plenty of modelling tutorials using Blender if you need to get up to speed. I plan to cover scenery creation at some point but I've not played with it myself so need to learn first! As for jetways I'm hoping to make a video on adding them soon.
hi, when i click build package in the console it says 2 done and 1 failed. Then 2 lines above it says 'package validation failed for "package" '. ive followed every instruction precisely whats gone wrong ? thanks
Hard to say without seeing the build output. Click clear in the console and run the build again. Read every line carefully, it will say somewhere what your error is. Check to see if you have any red text in your scenery project, that means you have an error with that item.
@@starflexthe2nd Again, hard to diagnose problems when you can't see the entire output. I'm pretty sure the manifest.json and layout.json "error" is actually a warning and shouldn't make a build fail. Maybe try posting on the SDK section of the forum, or in the MSFS SDK Discord server. I'm "PhyscoKiller414" on the MSFS forums if you wanted to PM me the full build output.
The steps in this video would be the same whether you are creating an airport that doesn't exist in the sim already, or overwriting an existing one. If the airport already exists it just means you don't have to recreate everything (e.g. ATC frequencies and approaches).
This tutorial is practically useless as of 2022. Gizmos no longer appears with the new layout and practically very thing has been changed. Why did Microsoft do this!!!
Could you maybe do an update version of this.Latest SDK runs a bit different from this. It's newer and a bit confusing.
