You've really got to admire the scope of this game, though. It's a third-person shooter/action-platformer with puzzles and adventure elements, featuring both linear and free-roam levels. I think that's why I loved it as a kid.
I loved it too, especially the Tatooine levels. I really wish someone would use their concept to build an entire game out of it, but... who am I kidding.
This game feels like a living breathing pop-up book. I love stuff in it like how you jump to a ledge on Coruscant and crawl through to some locked away section of a building but there's people standing around making you wonder what kind of seedy deals are going down. What kind of stories they have to tell. Felt very Star Wars.
This game is legendary. The low budget voice acting is hilarious (even more so in some other languages), the boss fights are often absolutely unfairly difficult, it just reinvents completely new parts to the story ... I still love and hate it.
There's a cool documentary/interview with a couple of the game's developers. They weren't allowed any drivable pod racers since Star Wars: Podracers was being made. Also, the team thought Panaka was going to be way more involved in the movie, and by the time they were able to read the final movie script, there wasn't time to change his role.
(17:35) DEAD XD. "Oh. There's also a backup here that never works. Let's try it." "So this thing never works, right? You have 0% success rate with it." "In fact, I made it all up just now. Just wanted to see how much I could get away with."
One of the very first games I ever played. I didn't realize there was a speed running community for this game. Saw the thumbnail and date and was in disbelief. Nice to know others are so fond of this game still. Great work.
Regarding the in-game time explanation they were going for: RTA was 00:49:03.3, or 2943.3 seconds. IGT reads 0002:52:00 or 2520.0 seconds. The difference is 423.3 seconds. The IGT for the first level reads 100.3 s and in the video I count it from 0:43 to 2:24, or 43 s to 144 s. It doesn't seem to count loading or cutscenes in the time. Very handy.
I really loved this game. Seeing your ship blow up and the pieces flying at you, helping the rebel forces in on Naboo, the weapon pick ups and blaster battles, the massive amounts of droids you can run at in Theed blew me away, and the iconic three-part battle at the end, plus Tatooine felt open world with lots of stuff going on.
I have never watched star wars, maybe half of one, but I was busy so I dont even recall most of it. I'm here straight up for the speed, explanations, jokes, and a chill time.
love that the speedrunners buddies are having a good laugh and enjoying the run a long with him. I used to think this game was a sandbox game back when i was a kid, lol. You can tell they put a decent amount of effort into the scale of the game.
loved this game, one of my childhood memories, it looks so hard now. no idea how 7 year old me managed the first few levels let alone the whole game, deserves a remaster someday
I was really hoping that Padme would come bursting in during the final cut scene where Obi Wan is talking to Qui Gon while he's dying and update us on the hover-cannons.
@@calviincalifornia4048 But did Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon know that particular technique? Didn't they have to use rebreathers to breathe while in the waters of Naboo? Were the rebreathers just for convenience?
OH MY GOD “stop pushing me!” Guy on the tattooine level, to this day I still randomly say that in his voice for no apparent reason lol I miss this game!
I remember renting this as a kid, getting to the junkyard, and being shocked by Qui Gon getting reduced to individual polygons by those chopper things.
Loved it. My cousin had a PSX and he bought the game. We hated the controls and got stuck on a level and he actually bought the guide.... we never finished the game. Excellent memories though and that’s what matters.
And suddenly I've been catapulted back to the 90s - this game was the game my parents got me with the Playstation when I was 10 for Christmas. I realise now what a steaming turd of a game it was, but I spent so many hours on it (even remember finding some of the tricks used here) and it was a large part of my childhood. Thank you Saint, Authorblues, Caveman and the whole GDQ team for a truly entertaining trip down memory lane.
I played this game so much in the early 2000s, I even discovered you could clip out of bounds during the garden levels. Little did I know people who speedrun games 17 years later.
thank you for continuing these events and i hope to play on gdq one day. god bless you all (unless that offends you ;{) ) and may the force be with you, all of you.
Runner introduction starts at 0:19.
Run starts at 1:09.
Couch commentary is provided by Authorblues. Studio, and CavemanDCJ
TheBoks is the host.
His subtle hilarious comments help make this an all-time great run. The delivery is impeccable.
I've watched this twice, it's a 10/10 run.
You've really got to admire the scope of this game, though. It's a third-person shooter/action-platformer with puzzles and adventure elements, featuring both linear and free-roam levels. I think that's why I loved it as a kid.
Hell yeah. Despite the harsh difficulty spikes at times, it was really awesome to play as a kid. Very ambitious even though its a rushed mess.
Yea this game reminds me a lot of Dark Forces II. I mean, Dark Forces II is actually a good game, but..... you know.
and it has lightsabers too
I loved it too, especially the Tatooine levels. I really wish someone would use their concept to build an entire game out of it, but... who am I kidding.
It took my 7 year old ass a week to figure out how to get pass the first room.
When the category is „beat the game“, you know you’re in for a treat.
Qui Gon Spin got me to actually laugh out loud.
That's a good trick I hear.
I remember this game being "so real-looking" back in the day
I remember this being my GTA substitute before GTA, where I tried to murder everyone on Tatooine.
it looked WAY better on PC. Or at least that's how I remember it :)
the computer version has a way higher resolution and does in fact look quite good compared to this.
12:25 was cracking me up. I remember this was basically real life to me
it looks way better than this video, dont know what happend here
He’s clipping through my childhood
lmao, I'm crying now
Now this is speedrunning!
Yipee!
He tried spinning, it was a good trick
*Gets shot in the face 3 times*
“I’m alright they just grazed my shoulder”
It's her make up
The guy in the background cackling in response to that line really sold it for me.
"Tis' but a flesh wound!"
Tis but a scratch
“This is incredibly random and very very difficult to d- Oh wow I did it.”
I own the game. And this is not a joke.
I had this game as well. And no, he is not joking. It is a genuine surprise when things go right in this mess.
That was the most entertaining speedrun I've ever seen in my entire life. Wow, kudos to the player and his team!

I'll try clipping that's a good trick
I've been clipping through my whole life why stop now
THE ROOM IS FILLING WITH POISON GAS!
WE MUST ESCAPE!
If Obi-Wan actually jumped out of the map in the movie it would be so much better.
This game is legendary. The low budget voice acting is hilarious (even more so in some other languages), the boss fights are often absolutely unfairly difficult, it just reinvents completely new parts to the story ... I still love and hate it.
Before Disney the game was completely canon, Ive lost it when I remembered this game while reading the wookiepedia article to obi-wan.
The voice actress for Padme is Grey DeLisle, she's actually very talented. Maybe they only had the money for one take or something XD
@@DrEnzyme in German Version There are the original Voice actors
Qui-Gon wird aber ironischerweise vom Deutschen Sprecher von Mace Windu gesprochen.
The french version is legendary XD
More Hover-Cannons will be coming soon!
We have to get out of here!
39:30 for the hilarity
@@thekiss2083 More Hover-cannons will be coming!
So glad staff let Saintmillion show off that glitch at the end
"So we just skipped jar jar" should've got a much bigger clap
But everyone likes jar jar that's not playing the game.
@@bradleymoore2797 That's so not true. Jar Jar is the most hated character in star wars.

**Qui-Gon*
I wish he had more applause for his tricks and skips.
People in the audience have no idea how hard this game is to run, let alone play.

There is no other game in this world that shaped my childhood like this one. Just epic.
Dude, this speed run was hilarious and incredibly entertaining, loved it !
Oh my god this is the best run. I need to find more runs by SaintMillion
I played this as a kid. It's so cool to see it be broken in half. Epic!!!
I played the PC version. It's no much better.
STAHP POOSHING ME
22:23
HOOTA HOOTA
SaintMillion is an absolute boss. I will definitely have to find more of him. Need him back for more GDQ events!
He has his own channel. Not speedrun based but great content nonetheless.

53:10 is probably one of the funniest moments ive ever seen in a GDQ run, holy shit
What a great run. Full of laughs and wholesomes. Thank you!!
this dude is amazing and his bros are a great addition.
"We're gonna take the clothesline of shame"
This guy is great. Very entertaining, thanks saintmillion!
Hey does anyone know what the status is on the hovercannons?
More hover cannons will be coming.
They may or may not be coming back.
More of them are coming!
I could be wrong, but I've heard more of them will be coming.
More hovercannons will be coming!
Not a speedrun a light team member would show you
I love this one. My brother played and still has his copy of the game. Good memories watching him play it, and now there are new memories.
My childhood 🙏🏻 thanks this memory
I was really hoping that Padme would come bursting in during the final cut scene where Obi Wan is talking to Qui Gon while he's dying and update us on the hover-cannons.

This was the funniest speed run I've watched! 🤣
>Saint successfully clips through a room
"Another happy landing"
Such an underrated run!!! Only a few people in the back watching this beautiful piece of art :o
Unfortunately the latter half of Awful Block is in the wee hours of a Thursday morning. This run would have started around 5:00am local time.
One of the best runs in GDQ ever!
Ive played through this game literally a million times but before I ever knew what speed running was. This was dope
Nice speedrun with enjoyable commentary! Thanks.
Omg yes this was my childhood! 2nd game I ever owned! Thanks for running this!
Ah Phantom Menace, where the whole trilogy could’ve been ended if they simply hadn’t opened the doors after gassing them
Just like the gunners on the Star Destroyer in A New Hope. "There goes another one." "Hold your fire, there's no life forms. Must've short circuited."

How did I miss this run??? OMFG this game bro... It's legendary.
this might be the best gdq run i've ever seen
I used to play this game all the time as a kid on my aunts PC and it was amazing for the time
I feel like the AGDQ environment was pitched to me in a negative light. Watching these folks, they are super genuine and fun to watch.
Absolutely love this runner and his commentary. Some great couch chemistry. More Hover-cannons will be coming! They'll be coming back soon!
I still have my copy for ps1 and still play it sometimes. It's a great game!

This is one of the best speedruns I saw. The commentators and the runner itself made this really comedic and fun to watch. Absolute cinema.
I loved this game as a kid. It’s actually pretty fun.

Ah my first every video game. I remember being stuck in the gardens for years, not knowing where I go next.
Glad to see someone breaking this game as much as it broke me as a child
I used to force push Darth Maul into the pit, wouldn’t that save some time?
