- Meshuggah's Contradictions Collapse studio footage from the 1991 recording sessions with English subtitles.
Meshuggah is one of the biggest influences throughout my musical journey. Especially my guitar playing was strongly shaped by them, and my passion for heavier music grew immensely over the years. That's why I dedicate this channel mainly to this fantastic band that has fascinated and inspired me all this time.
Jens with long hair playing guitar is a strange sight
The logical progression after Justice for all
Jens is really good at guitar
Dude, WHAT?!?! Where did this come from?!
@@Haekki thanks man! I’ll be watching all these.
this is fucking gold
@@Haekki Thanks man, I appreciate it!
@@Haekki YOU DA MAN!!!
What's up ole Uncle Ben in da house. Lol man I'm tripping on these vids too . These guys were way ahead of thier time with the heavies.
Oof, that 'cut off your fingers' joke was brutal foreshadowing...
hahaha was thinking the same thing very creepy...
What!? Time stamp please.
Explain, pls
@@synkadus Fredrik cut a chunk of one of his fingers not so much after recording CC on a domestic accident. The part was re-attached btw
@@radoslavdasencich5437 Damn I never knew he pulled a (kinda) Tony Iommi lol Poor dude.
Jens with hair...very rare to see! Also, I was aware of both Jens and Fredrik sharing lead vocal duties, but I didn't know Tomas did the spoken vocals for "Choirs of Devastation".
3:22 Jens Kidman on guitar! never thought id see that 🤘🏻 thank you!
He co-wrote the music of (almost?) every track of CC until Fredrik became the sole music songwriter with DEI.
I feel blessed 😊
Dude I don’t know where the hell you’re getting all this footage from? sincerely thank you so much. What’s crazy is, this is footage from all of my favorite albums. Thank you so much, I genuinely appreciate it.
I totally agree, these are my favorite moments from them and I've always wondered what went on during these sessions.
this video is also on youtube so i imagine its just a dvd rip from an older dvd they put out, same exact content as on this channel ua-cam.com/video/tqcnzJtgVMo/v-deo.html
Never in a million years would I have known that I will see Fredrik Thornendal, Djent God, play acoustic guitar on video, and play it in a way more reminiscent of Jazz musicians with delicate, alternating up-strokes... Not to mention him playing *_A GODDANG SITAR!!! WHAT!!!_*
Wow...
Before the carpenter accident
Woah, bold and italics? Teach me..
Also fan since Nothing came out and I also never would've thought I'd see this!!! Also, ever heard Alan Holdsworth? He's like Fred's guitar hero.
@@Egoblivion 𝕳𝖔𝖕𝖊 𝖙𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖍𝖊𝖑𝖕𝖘 𝖞𝖔𝖚!
Even back in the 90s people were saying that jazz was at the root of Meshuggah. You are very late to the party.
14:00 A rare sight of Fredrik playing a Sitar. I wish they would bring it back in case they made another album
Man Jens voice in this was so sick, like a more furious James Hetfield, also Fredriks was sick not to mention haha. I think this album could go down as my favourite. The trashy/proggy style with alot of groove and sick riffs combined with choir singing vocals is beyond awesome and unique!! Also thanks for uploading!
Hands down my favourite Meshuggah album. Great to see how this masterpiece came together.
Jens on guitar is always nice to see
The first two Meshuggah albums are groundbreaking in metal. So complex and hardcore.
For me surprisingly most people love their later and more simple work more
It’s hardly simple.
"simple"
@@Heliosphan33compared to the early stuff it is
not really @@progfox
@@cerokov you must not know much about music then
WHAT THE HELL! JENS PLAYING GUITAR WEEE" ty for the uploads!!
Holy shit, I never knew the lead vocals were shared! I thought it was all Jens apart from the gang vocals. Also, nice to hear the mix without that gated reverb snare, which is just too much, it dates the album too.
That gated snare is like a time capsule. They were the shift in metal that went from 80s thrash and speed metal to the modern polished metal sound everyone stole from them
as someone who has only ever recorded digitally into a daw, hearing the slowdown of the tape every time they stop recording is so magical. it's like reminscing about the snow on a crt tv, it was created by analog technology just being the way it is, but the modern lack of it nowadays just feels so hollow in comparison to what once was
So crazy that Frederik had a UV7BK back then. Most of us it took a while to get one haha. So ahead of their time. I was a freshman in HS when they did this!
that’s because the ibanez universe is one of the coolest guitars ever. I want more colors.
His dad bought it for him while visiting in the USA, at the time it was much cheaper there than in Sweden :)
The Kings of their own Metal sound & style, i really like Meshuggah and respect the way that Every album is distinguished in its own way... Not to many Metal bands that have that skill.. In my opinion...
The beginning! There's something moving about seeing Fredrik play the acoustic.
When talking about Contradictions Collapse, Fredrik told me he recorded all the guitars... Looks like he mis-remembered haha
Unlike "And Justice For All" This had bass .)
good to see the legends starting out in about my age
5:23 omg this part. I'm a sound & recording student and this videos make me happy with my career and motivates me to progress with this stuff. Thanks a lot for upload it again! 🙌
Damn, been listening to these dudes since the late 90's and Contradictions Collapse / None was my first album. Incredible to see this footage of things I've heard SO many times in my life over the past 25 years. Thanks for popping these online!
Contradictions Collapse and None were two separate albums
@@robjoyner1167 uhm, ACKSHUALLY they released both contradictions collapse and the none ep as a single combo album called Contradictions Collapse / None in 1998.🤓
@@MawcDrums yea. COMBO. not an album.
@@robjoyner1167 yes, it's a compilation album of the two releases. So yes, it's an "album", sold as one package, and it was the first meshuggah release I ever purchased.
@@MawcDrums you're not very bright.
to be expected from metalheads. nothing new
Never thought I’d see Friedrich play sitar lol
Thank you so much for sharing these videos!
This is pure gold! Thank you thank you thank you :)
Thanks a lot for all these your superamazing and really rare studio footages!!! Best gift for Messhugas fans!!! \m/
@@Haekki Yeah, i enjoy it so much!!!
Jens voice in this record reminds me James Hetfield in And Justice For All.
the Pantera footage channel godfather123 now this , What a gift THANK YOU
Thank for sharing this epic record
This videos are amazing... my favorite record of Meshuggah
Great content, thanks dude
Jens really brought many smiles and chuckles tto my face here 😋😀🍻🤘👍👊
21:05 and then things went meshuggah..
So young...
”Han är hur körd i hjärnan som helst” 😂
Epic studio footage!
Cheers man! I love CC
Wow, this is gold !
I was definitely born 20 years to late
Idk how you found these, but thank you!!
great footage!!!Nice to be online!Thanks!
GOLD!
long hair jens = C U R S E D
11:12 pure heaviness
Definitely watch this video with the closed captioning if you don't speak Swedish! They do a great job of translating!!
So it was Fred singing Abnegating Cecity after all! I always thought it was him in that blurry ass video 😀
Damn Jens was a good looking guy with hair
And what do we say?
- Thank you Mr Vai!
I love the guitar tone from this album! I think it was a modded JCM800.
Way ahead of it's time this album. Too bad most "true" Meshuggah fans overlook this album.
I agree! I found out about them in 1994 with the None mini CD/Album and then went back to check out this record. A friend of mine had the vinyl so I borrowed it and recorded it to a VHS tape in high quality (yes... VHS were GREAT for near CD quality before CD was a thing and waaaaaaaay better that regular cassette tape). :)
Got it on tape!!
not at all. At this point they were a barely listenable metallica/anthrax inspired demo band. I love Meshuggah but let's keep it real here.
@@robjoyner1167 Wut?
@@robjoyner1167 Ehh.... what are you talking about?

Dude I've listened to meshuggah since Chaosphere came out and I swear I've never fuckin seen these. Wow !!!!
Fan since Nothing release here...the poster replied to another comment that these were in the "25 Years of Musical Deviance" box set vinyl edition. He was surprised nobody else had uploaded them. No shit, right...!
3:20 Ahh, the elusive Jens Hetfield...
So fuckin cool to see the sitar part in wel never see the day. Always loved that
Didn't know that Fred sang that much on the album
Underrated lp. I think that this album is one of the best european thrash metal album ever.
Its crazy how much Jens and Fredrick sound the same vocal wise.....I mean If you didnt know it happened in the studio.....you wouldnt know any different.
At 3:25 I had a moment of, "Who's _that_ guy?" 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿
*Frendrik Thordendal* looks exactly like *Quorthon* with a little hint of *Taylor Hanson* in this footage.
this is gold right here
Thanks for share....the best time and music they did and have done 😁🤘🤪🤘 So cool. Please go back and this trash jazz again 😊🤘🤘🤘🤘
He's really f'd up in the head 😂🤘🏽
best album ever
Gold!!! 🔥🙌😬🤘🙌
17:05 possibly 1986 Ibanez PL1770
Man Jens looks toooo cool playing that guitar
Holy fuck man, this shit is gold!!!!!!
Today you won't find Fred in front the camera anymore
Кайф!

These videos are an absolute Godsend, cannot get enough of them. Where did you find them originally?
@@Haekki I've been back several times to watch them all through. They're so ahead of their time.
13:38 that was sick
15:38 KEEP ON TELLING ME I'M TOO FAT!
17:55 this shot is so epic
That sitar part reminds me of Diablo 1 soundtrack,a lot!
bruh why is 90s fredrik hot
my friend's parents is friends with peter nordin, the original bassist for meshuggah that you can see in this video. i don't know much about his life right now, but his wife runs a cafe or restaurant
Why did Peter leave the band?

Wait, so Fredrik used a 7 string but didn’t touch the low B on the album?? 🤔
I guess not lol
They used 7s on contradictions collapse???
Only Fredrik used his Ibanez Universe but Jens used some kind on 6 string Flying V
