From their only prison, lack of military, ecotourism, to their jellyfish lake, here are ten things that you probably didn't know about Palau. Music by Yuzzy: bit.ly/2nUbGqD
Yeah a virus created in a Chinese lab might pop out of it. The real life animal viruses that jump to humans are easy to create a real vaccine for compared to something made in a lab.
Do many of them serve in the U.S. military? Seems like there wouldn't be many jobs on such a small island and the military could be a good way for many of them to make money. Like I know a LOT of Samoans sign up for the U.S. military for that reason.
Another interesting fact is that its capital city/complex, Ngerulmud, was built to mimic the white house, was funded by a loan from Taiwan, and is the least populated capital city in the world. Poor ventilation and building designs unsuited to the climate also caused large mould build ups and unaffordable running costs, resulting in services such as the post office being permanently shut. Although Ngerulmud is still the capital, it is seldom used, and many state events are hosted elsewhere.
Correction: Palau is a matrilineal society This is a major difference, as inheritance including chiefly titles are passed down through the generations. So while women do choose the leaders, inheritance and major decisions are made by maternal siblings. So for example, in a marriage one is asking the bride's maternal uncle (not the father) for their blessings Remnants of this still remain today, and while many families like mine had a matriarch, we are matrilineal Source: I'm Palauan 🇵🇼
Cool country. Few things not mentioned is site of one nastiest ww2 battles, it has special political status with USA, and great scuba diving. People are very nice.
It's better that way. Just like how Costa Rica abandoned its military in 1948 and focused all of their budget on education & healthcare. They can do this because of American military protection.
Although they are a protectorate of the U.S, Palau still have indepence over domestic politics. And its manpower and resources is too small in order to have an actual army. Might as well make use of American forces.
My dad is from Palau. He moved here when he was nine but my mom is American. I want to visit so bad. It really is most people don't know about it. People think I'm lying when I'm saying from there, but my dad said he'll take me someday.

Glad for the environment video they have- not just because it’s difficult to understand how to each country deals with waste- but also because people can be so gross and disrespectful when on vacation
The real, sad answer is lots of countries in Oceania have high obesity because a lot of nutrients are taken away and they have to eat junk. Australia & NZ are the luckier ones

Maybe someone should get them some fat tire bicycles. Bicycling's a fun and effective way to lose weight and fat tire bikes could help them easily traverse the many sandy and/or rocky surfaces of their island.
First of all, palauans are not fat. Second, fruit bat doesn't and didn't cause COVID or SARS and lastly the country isn't "run by women". We are too small to matter in the global media rhetoric so please leave us out of it. You are all welcome to visit us, it's very nice here.

Palau fruit bats are fine, they just eat fruit in a natural disease-free environment. The problem is when fruit bats are help captive, forced to eat other things (spoiled grain, meat, etc), and live in filthy conditions where they develop diseases. It’s like eating a partially decaying diseased cow VS not.

They are one of the most obese countries. I want to see an alternate universe where humans don’t get complacent. It’s terrifying to see once proud people be obese through their own making. I assume they lived as Hunter gatherers for generations and thus stayed fit and healthy.
